  1. “I once made a 350 mile round trip on a Monday night to watch my Scottish Premiership club get pumped by a non-league mob live on national TV” “Ok, so who is your team and who humiliated you?” “Well I support Aberdeen and we got beat by a club called Darvel”. “Darvel? Who the f**k are Darvel? There isn’t a team called Darvel. I’m going to say it’s a lie”. “It is in fact true”

  2. Seeing as they can't even score against the diddiest of diddies these days. It's only appropriate that they update their badge.

  3. That’s me Aren’t you the one that disappeared off P&B for 6 months when Aberdeen won 3-1 at Tynecastle?

  4. I’d sooner set my ears on fire than listen to a fucking Dunfermline podcast about the day we fucked the league.

  5. I have to admit that last night I thought the fun would only last until around 60 minutes when Aberdeen’s fitness and experience would begin to show. I was not a believer. I should have had more faith in my joiner who played the majority of the match.

  7. I think beating Darvel is irrelevant to how we will do in the league. No reason to choose one over the other. There is absolutely no correlation between them. Somebody mentioned a 60k difference (excluding any TV money) between beating and losing to Darvel. That equates 240 season ticket sales or the equivalent of about 416 extra FSS memebers for a year donating £12 a month. Breaking it down like that into numbers we can all associate with surely we can see the importance of winning the game now that we are in a position to do so.

  8. Only true if you mean the Clachnacuddin Reserves, who play in the North Caledonian League at the same level on the pyramid as the WoS Premier Division. Eta for entertaining fact: By sitting top of their respective feeder leagues for the LL/HL, Darvel are currently at the same level on the pyramid as...

  10. “Maybe”. I did some digging on post-war upsets a year ago and posted here. Aberdeen is the first top flight team to lose to non-league since 66/67 - my beloved Ayr. Only happened four times and never since creation of Premier Division until now - first screenshot below. The highest “gap” to non-league was Dundee in 58/59 who finished fourth but lost to Fraserburgh. Second screenshot below is of biggest non-league upsets by number of positions between the defeated and non-league. Up to end of last year, the biggest measurable post-war shock was 2013/14 and 2nd place Motherwell losing to fourth bottom Div 2 Albion Rovers, a gap of 37 league spots. Places are where teams finished, not position at time of match.

  11. Thing is the levels of sneering at clubs at tier six is utterly astounding at times, Darvel, Talbot, Bankies and others have all taken spfl scalps league 1 and beyond. Its very clear there is a need for a better pyramid structure in Scotland. Darvel will hopefully go up this year now into the LL, but only if they win a playoff against the east champs? Really? Then they only get the chance to get into league 2 if they win a playoff against the bottom club. There are some who think Aberdeens reserve team should be placed higher in the pyramid than Darvel. Hopefully more folks can see that it’d be in everyones interest to have a fairer pyramid structure and better movement between levels. Get yer B teams to f**k and let clubs progress.

  12. Why does it have to be one or the other? I'd view both as perfectly realistic objectives. If they aren't, just shut the doors and forget the whole enterprise. You'd genuinely think we were facing a trip to the Etihad or Bernabeu the way some are going on. I fully expect us to both beat Darvel and get out out of this utter shit tip of a league at the fourth time of asking. Anything less is failure.

  13. Like it or not the simple answer to your question about why they would want out of the WoSFL league is AMBITION and PROGRESSION. Let me give you just ONE example of why Iast night could and I stress could, benefit the WoSFL, bare with me as it's a wee bit long winded. My Mrs is the Credit Card Director for a well known UK High St bank, this morning after their daily board meeting and knowing shes from East Ayrshire, the subject came around to last nights game which a good few of them from down south had also watched on TV. Her collegue responsible for marketing and sponsorship was extremely keen to know more about Darvel and most importantly the WoSFL as a whole. She tells me even the Chairman suggested they should explore further. Imagine they decided to sponsor a competition or the league, as these multi nationals don't get involved with a single club for fear of alienating themselves from customers. Don't you think the whole league would benefit if something became of that discussion? Afterall, big multi nationals love to ride the coat tales of a fairytale/success story. Like it or not, last nights game has generated discussion and interest from far afield not just the West of Scotland or our little country but it's making headlines worldwide. I've also sat back and read for a long while now about how John Gall, Mick and Darvel are this, that n the other, a vanity project where only their money talks and they're buying success. The truth is that success is getting exposure, interest and people talking that otherwise would simply not exist.

  14. A lot of noise and a lot of predictable ‘sack everyone’ and ‘scrap it all and start again’ type takes after last night. I think people get carried away and I don’t think we’re anywhere near that. The ‘structure’ of the football department is still very young and there’s nothing to suggest it’s totally broken. If I was to assess the key individuals, my unqualified take would be: Cormack - a guy with good intentions, wants the best for the club and has a vision for where he wants it to be. However, I don’t think he knows how to implement the day to day running of the football side. Also his ego seems to get in the way. I’ve criticised a lot of his public statements and it’s always with an underlying issue that I feel his ego is in the way. I hope it doesn’t prevent him from delegating more football decisions to someone more qualified. Verdict - stay but step back Gunn - this is the position who should be telling Dave how to run the football department. With the best will in the world I can’t see how this is the case. Let’s be honest, if gunn left tomorrow is any other premiership club asking for his services? Verdict - replace Mowbray - couldn’t tell you what he looks like but he’s done enough to have a few more windows on the recruitment front. Some poor ones but we’ve unearthed talent we wouldn’t otherwise have a few years ago. This isn’t an overnight process and I’m comfortable with what it’s produced. Verdict - stay Goodwin - I think I’ve made my stance on this guy pretty clear. He doesn’t have it, the biggest shock since he came in is how tactically inept he is. I wasn’t expecting wonders but I thought he’d make us a solid outfit but he’s totally out of his depth and has no answers. - we’ve tried 4 at the back, then 3, then back to 4 - we went gung ho at ibrox then barely left our 6 yard line at home to Celtic, and he was seemingly proud of both efforts - we’ve tried duk, miovski and Ramirez in the same team with the latter playing as a 10. I could go on but all examples that this guy has no answers. verdict - would’ve had him out weeks ago but if he’s not gone by midday, we riot. The squad Not as bad as some would have you believe. Middle to front this is a top 6 side pretty comfortably I’d say, undermined by the criminal mismanagement of the back line. Roos is a serviceable keeper at this level. The squad is imbalances but it’s a good age with a decent amount of young talent in there with resale value. However, it lacks character and when an ‘ok’ team lacks character it doesn’t take much to go into a tailspin like we’re seeing now. I never thought we were brilliant when we were 3rd pre World Cup and I don’t think the team is horrendous now. verdict - keep building and for the love of god sign a defence conclusion - sorry for the rambling post but I don’t think everything is broken.

  15. I think Brora beating a fairly decent Hearts team is underrated. Brora hadn't played a a match in two months and had barely played at all in the previous year.

  19. Well, whoever it may be, if he even has 1/3 of the talent and application of Patrizio Billio we'll be doing very well at our new level. Memories of Fir Park August 2000, Pat scored the first goal of a 2-0, going on what should have been a 4-0 victory with 10 men I may add. Happily top of the league and singing on the sold out Fort Bar bus on the trip home. Great times Patrizio, very unfairly treated at Dens at the end of his stay, imho. RIP, you handsome devil. Our thoughts tonight are with your family and friends my man.

  25. John Gall was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Today programme this morning. I don't recall a single mention of the WoSFL, but he did manage to name-check Brownings the Bakers and the Kilmarnock pie, plus various pie-related awards.

  28. Even if not expanded, it should be automatic promotion, not the ridiculous East West South play offs. Then there's the OF colt teams shoehorned into the LL, a starting position for when the OF leave the Scottish League but still want to have an influence in it.
