  1. Some Queen's Park fans are fundamentally misunderstanding what people are getting at with the Gretna comparison. Willie Haughey is clearly not Brooks Mileson, as he's considerably wealthier and the money available to be ploughed into a Scottish club is pretty much a bottomless pit for Haughey whereas Mileson was never going to be able to sustain it. Queen's Park are also making serious investment in off-field infrastructure alongside their first team expenditure (notwithstanding making a complete arse of the stadium), something Gretna never bothered to do. Although it's worth noting that Gretna did also chuck money at youth development, albeit as a PR and poaching fans from QoS exercise rather than seriously giving players a pathway. Evidently there are differences. None of that changes the similarities to Gretna. Having other expenditure that you hope can be a route to long-term sustainability as well as the first team expenditure doesn't change the fundamental fact that the first team squad is being extensively bankrolled. That Haughey’s wealth means it's extremely unlikely to end in liquidation as Gretna did doesn't mean being bankrolled up the leagues with a Premiership budget in the first place is actually any different. There's also an aside there about how credible it is for Queen's Park to grow their support to an extent that Premiership wages will ever be sustainable, even if they had actually managed to build a stadium large enough to hold that size of support. Queen's Park fans have consistently argued that they are well aware of the level of spending, are under no illusions about the reality of it and are just enjoying seeing where it takes them. Absolutely, every fanbase would love seeing their club throwing the same sums of money around and would be enjoying the success on the park the same way, while to some (mostly lesser) extent every single club in this division has at times lived outwith their means, including many doing so just now. Every time one of your fans reacts furiously to the Gretna comparison though it tells the rest of us that particular fan is actually in total denial about being bankrolled. If you want to enjoy the journey and see where it takes you go ahead and enjoy it, but needing to start a thread as you feel compelled to try to dispel a "myth" which is self-evidently true suggests that you are in fact extremely rattled by others pointing out the reality of the situation. If you're happy to see your team being bankrolled in this way, and you'll struggle to find many fans of any club who wouldn't be, then you need to accept the inevitable and entirely justified Gretna comparison that comes with it.

  2. He's playing up front for Falkirk against some truly terrible opposition in the third tier of Scottish football. He should therefore be absolutely capable of scoring goals, and the fact that he isn't is the reason fans simply don't rate him. I cannot understand this "either or" type argument that his cheerleaders are putting forward. He should be able to do both. Juan Alegria, in the first home game against QOS in August, was on the park for about 55 minutes, during which he scored one, created another and never gave their centre halves a single moment of respite. He was superb that day, that was the standard, and whilst by no means consistent, he could offer a bit of everything, physicality, ability to hold up the ball and genuine threat to the opposition. Oliver lacks the latter and is no where near the same level. Not even close. Whilst you'll get away with that against a rancid Clyde team, you won't against any sort of semi-competent opposition. Alegria to Oliver is such a downgrade. Oliver had a decent enough game today, but we've now got a far tougher run of fixtures on the horizon and far better is needed. Hopefully that is addressed this week with the addition of a proper centre forward, preferably one who is now miles down the pecking order at Tynecastle.

  4. I'm with you and up for Danzaki breakfast show (mainly due to the 10 month old baby in my house) Edit: 3 mins, Riku fell over. He's playing as one of 2 forwards who are sitting behind the striker. But more worryingly there is a player called Josh Laws and another called Callan Elliot playing here. Alt universe Motherwell in play. Shudder. 8mins: Bold Riku played a nice through ball in for an assist which the other player stuck in the net. Alas, it was just offside so goal chopped off. 14mins: Shout out for the Well. Bit of chat about Danzaki potentially moving to us and then the commentator said 'they've just signed Mikael Mandron from League 2 Gillingham, unbelievably'. More in relation to the SPFL signing Aussie or Aussie based players I think rather than throwing Mika some shade. 25 mins: chance for Riku. Could have got a quick shot away in and about the penalty spot but was tight so tried to take a touch. He's a bit more involved now. Promising I'd say so far. Pretty quick, closing the ball down all over and getting in good spots in the box. 40 mins: Riku dropped out the game for a wee while there as Brisbane got a bit deep but decent few touches last few mins. He's linking things up nice enough between midfield when he can and pretty tidy ball use wise. Often the most forward player in the team making runs and hovering about the penalty spot. Nice bit if two footed skill out wide there to play a team mate in. Got sacked in the middle of the park where he could have made a quicker decison. Half time: If we do sign him, on that first half showing he could be a decent addition. He's not been kicked by Alan Power before though so would be interested to see how that side of his game is. 60: Got bored and watched the golf for a bit. The game quality is....not great. From what I can see Riku still making good forward runs into the box but the ball is getting pinged over him. He's had the ball a couple of times on edge of box but getting crowded out. 72: Riku aff. Decent shift if not spectacular. A lot of that down to how poor Brisbane are I'd say as he wasn't really in the game for large parts even even though he was continually asking for the ball. Coffee

  5. Nesbitt has received legitimate criticism at times - from me included- but with the slight tactical changes in the last few weeks, he’s been superb. Long may it continue.

  6. Like, I get why we're still playing Sol and Lamie. It's because Bevis is injured and Blaney's just in the door. OK...fine, whatever. However after 6 months of Hammell coming out after games saying exactly the same things about us not doing the basics defensively surely that comes back on him and Kerr and whether or not they're actually capable of coaching a team defensively. Evidence to date suggests that they are absolutely not. I wrote about it at length last week but if they're not capable of coaching a defence (they're clearly not) then get some help from someone who can. If our centre backs are making mistakes week in week out, the window is open. Do something about it. If he and his staff are looking at that and thinking "Yeah, this is fine. Just needs some more tweaks on the training ground..." then it's on them as much as the players IMO. Standing in front of the cameras every week with a script that's basically saying "Well, what can you do?" is fucking wild.

  7. Where do they get these utter Muppets from that referee at this level. 2 red cards for nothing challenges in a game that hasn't been an overly dirty game at all. Really is abysmal the standard .

  8. There were guys behind me (far right of the Railway end towards the bogs) absolutely slaughtering McGinty after our equaliser "haha big useless b*****d finally does something" Annoys me. I like the big guy. He's been good this season. And having scrolled back through this thread to the day he signed I was absolutely one of his biggest critics and delighted to admit I was wrong.

  9. How on earth is 1) directly running into a pass, 2) shaping up to shoot but 3) *not touching it* qualify as not interfering with play? In no sane universe does point 3) magically trump the first two. Get this fucking nonsense launched into the sun.

  11. Yes, you guys are all spot on. But, right now, I have been watching Queens Park for 50 years and week in week out we would get horsed by Albion Rovers and Berwick Rangers. How about right now you just let this old guy enjoy the fact that we are looking down at the rest of you and enjoying the moment. Tomorrow I will probably have to wait 120 minutes for an ambulance before I finally snuff it. Hopefully it happens while we are top of the championship and just before the Gretna thing kicks in. Let's be honest, it does not matter which team we support. Any one of us would love to be doing what Queens Park are enjoying right now. Just give us our moment, it won' t last, we know that. Cheers.

  12. Good thing that they’re building a stadium capable of holding significantly less than that number of fans then

  13. Think people are missing the point of Oliver in this side. He’s not there to be a goal scoring striker he’s there to link up the play and bring the wingers into the game which I think he does very well. Although he doesn’t have the sharp finishing you’d expect of a lone striker, we wouldn’t have had half as many chances as we do with him not there.

  20. Another 2 assists for Nesbitt. That's him had his one good game in ten, two weeks running.

  21. Based on what? His hold up play is decent, he runs in behind, his touch is very good and brings others into play? Obviously he doesn’t score enough but when he helps bring Morrison, Nesbitt and Kennedy into play that shouldn’t be a worry.

  22. I think some on here are being incredibly harsh on Oliver again. Done a lot of good work, especially against Grant. He should have scored he’ll not need to be told that. We criticise him but his play allows Kennedy and Morrison to be so effective.

  23. Every single sub made us significantly weaker. Making them even earlier would’ve left us with a weaker team for a longer period of time. The lack of depth in the squad is shafting us every single week, we need more bodies but have zero money.

  25. Newtongrange Star 2-1 Dunipace Not a great game especially in the first half where both teams cancelled each other out and created few chances. 2nd half was a bit more open with both teams having more chances and Star keeper making a couple of great saves. All the goals came in last 11 minutes with Dunipace scoring on a breakaway before Newtongrange equalised from the spot and then got the winner. Not the most pleasant of days weather wise which may have contributed to poor game.

  31. Deep down, they have to live with the knowledge that it’s utterly meaningless. Reaching a final is one of the biggest joys of football, and they see it as a ticking-off exercise. It’s the sort of behaviour you’d expect from a 5-year-old before they reach an age where they can understand a basic concept of fairness.

  34. We played QP at home on 23rd December and they were brilliant when playing against the strong wind. Thought we had a chance of getting something out of the game at half time but they played us off the park in the second half. Fast, passing, dynamic football and, importantly, they kept the ball ON THE FUCKING GROUND. Beggars belief how thick players and especially managers are.

  35. Thought Oliver played well given the job he was given, he is not a lone striker but with the right partner up front could be standout for us.

  39. Oh dear, are the big boys shouting at you? Queen’s Park took the game to the world. The leagues are littered with former QP players. Our national team has one as captain. Before the SPFL came along our development teams were regularly tapped and we never got a bean. Since the SPFL formed we’ve been bumped down the ladder that we arguably built. So the club are entitled to enjoy what is a huge day for our future plans. And all Queen’s Park supporters should be behind it. Other fans are entitled to their views. Maybe soon, someone will be bold enough to applaud Scotland’s oldest club from deciding not to die and instead make the very best of what they have. Fortune favours the brave!
