  1. Think it's worthwhile to point out with a wee bit of advance that January 2023 will mark two full decades since P&B rose from the embers of the doomed Scottish Football Online forum. It's early days were a mishmash of mostly St. Mirren, Clyde, ICT, Ross County and Falkirk supporters of the time, it's amazing to think that it's been here so long and for some of us, myself included, we've been frequenting this site for longer than we have lived not frequenting it (I was 19 when I signed up FFS). I was on from more or less day dot lurking as a guest but left it until the August to bother signing up. I think joined specifically to say GIRFUY to a Clyde fan after we'd beaten them. Many of the originals have long since fallen by the wayside either by way of heads gone, Ruggy's auld banhammer or the famed resignation letters of years gone by. There genuinely can't be that many folk from the first 12 months still kicking about. @Savage Henry @Rugster @Madame RH33 @Coventry Saint @ICTChrisand obviously @Div are about the only folk from the first year or so who come to mind that I still see regularly posting. And to be honest, it's still the first site I click onto when online even after all this time. I've come and gone from different forums in the last 20 years but nowhere is quite like this or lasted the pace for me. Scottish football is a niche as f**k market and always will be and I suppose, regardless of beliefs, outlooks on life etc, it's the one thing that everyone who signs up here has in common so it's good to have that outlet online and a busy community to discuss it to boot. Aside from that though, there has been some absolutely unreal moments in two decades on this site. Quite literally too many to even think of remembering and sadly not everything documented due to purges of the forum losing a lot of genuinely fucking hilarious content down the years. I've also had the opportunity of meeting many folk who frequented the forum down the years at various events such as the 5s, the subcrawl and the short lived but brilliant fun P&B Fitba team...the vast majority pleasant, decent folk, with just enough of a sprinkling of utter moonhowling arsehole to keep it interesting! So aye, enough of the birthday caird pish apart from well done Div on keeping this full thing running (mostly, apart from when St. Mirren get beat and the severs magically go down) and hopefully here's to the next 20 years. Have any other P&Bers ever started a Scottish football forum from the ashes of a dead online football community?

  4. There are 2 types of people. 1. Those that are happy that the huge hole in our finances has been filled. 2. Those that are raging it’s not been tweeted yet. I’m sure the announcement will come when the time is right

  5. A 10 for Boxing Day. That rugby player comes up a lot, wonder why it's always him?

  6. Mrs Ranter went out a walk yhis morning, and randomly bumped into the good samaritan who stopped his day to ensure I was ok and helped get me into the car last week when I was mid-heart attack. So I've been able to thank him properly for his help. Turns out he lives a 2 minute walk from my house. Apparently when she saw him, her opening shot was "Oh, you're that man!". Fortunately he recognised her, rather than thinking she was just some random nutjob

  7. Last time I’d had a drink it was at the end of a 14 day sesh. Probably best if I just steer clear of it. Total sugar addict since quitting. Guzzle snickers and kitkats etc all the time. Normally really like non ally stuff and had some terrific mocktails the other night at The Dakota. Thanks Richey. Same - never saw the point in stopping after one or two. Got a scar on my arm from burning it on an oven whilst celebrating a win up there. Think it’s the time of year. Devil finds work for idle hands etc. It’s mad but stores don’t sell non alcoholic beers outside the usual booze hours. No no. No no no no.. Been meaning to try that, ta for reminder That’s sort of my thinking. Been reading about a woman who started a plan called Moderation Management. She got smashed, tan someone over then topped herself! Went to a wee party and is was alright without a drink in the end as we had a good laugh. Probably tougher at parties/weddings etc where you hate everyone and can’t drink to blot out the dullness. Thanks. Had about 20 years of scares that should have set me sober. Hope you’re doing okay with it, especially at this time of year. 4 and a bit years with no drinking injuries. Definitely feel a bit of remorse at the work drying up for A&E types. probably right The pressure is all from within really. Seems I’m less of a nuisance sober. Sorry to take up so much P&B bandwidth. Going to try and start training again in the new year to channel my energy etc. Thanks so much to all for the positive advice. Go such long spells not even thinking about a drink so when cravings come along and get the claws in it’s quite all-consuming and scary.

  12. So, "big city" Dunfermline doesn't have its own A&E department and it has a KY post code? Sounds like Kirkcaldy is the city in Fife.

  15. If someone had told me in May or June that my old man would still be around at Christmas, I wouldn't believe them. But he is still here, and we spent a few hours with him today. Got him some gifts he loved, and the kids played games with him. Just wonderful.

  16. I've no seen Uncle Buck since the cinema, but I reckon I'll give it a watch the night to spite this evil monster Cosmic Joe. Ashamed to have considered him a good c**t up to now. John Candy could turn on a wonderful malevolent quality that put him above most comedy actors. I reckon he'd have gone on to do more quality straight acting too. Almost thirty years he's been gone

  18. Festive fun at ' Plain Ham' for southern League : Larkhall 2 Westbury 1 , the Larks did well to turn it round after a poor 1st half (01) in front of a bumper crowd (usually 100+) of 340. £9 with programme £1.

  19. I’ll add weight to it as was there that night too prior to the Dundee match. I can’t recall word for word but I too took from both KJ & JS that the financial hole was covered & they were actually looking at going over and above the £400k as they may be able to pay £100k to replace the pitch with a further £150k coming from grants for that project. So they are really looking at finding/have found £500k and not £400k. Replacing the pitch would only happen if they have the time frame to do it though, ie no summer concerts etc. I assume any official comms on this will come once the T’s have been crossed & I’s dotted as someone else said. Edited as didn’t mean they would be using concert funds as it doesn’t sound like a concert is confirmed anyway.

  22. My first match was on March 3rd 1984 when the Saints visited Pittodrie, and as I walked into the Beach End (I'm sure the away fans were in the Paddock) my nine year old breath was taken away by the vast green pitch and the supporters gathering pitchside in expectation. Both teams looked magnificent, and the team colours complemented each other, Dons in all red and the Saints bedecked in a super-cool black and white stripes (see below) with black shorts. The Dons won 2-0 with goals from Strachan and Hewitt; however, both teams left an impression on me that day, which was bolstered when I learned later that Fergie also managed the Saints before heading North. Well if the Dons don't win trophies then I'm just glad someone else does other then Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dee. Unfortunately, that's where I am now with Scottish football. It's us against them...

  25. I saw Bairnardo's post. It's quite clear what has happened here now that the mods have confirmed they didn't delete it. Bairnardo posted it after a few beers, feeling hard, only to realise he'd be easily battered and quickly deleted it in a shitebag panic. Bad news for the Falkirk lads; the hospital in Dunfermline doesn't have an A&E, so after your mob is smacked around the city, you'll be taken to Kirkcaldy. Insult to injury indeed.

  26. To be fair, your fans seem to be more upset about him than us. We're just laughing that you actually gave us money for him. Delightful. P.S. Declan Gallagher is miles better than any of the shite that currently inhabits your defence.

  36. The biggest loss for me personally in Inverness was the loss of the bookshop newsagent in Union Street which went through a few name changes in its time. I first remember it as Melvens and it finished as Thains. I was a regular whom bought all my magazines there having my own folder for all the magazines I ordered never missed a copy of NME or Autosport, the staff were brilliant. I had been known to spend all afternoon in there browsing the books going through every section for something interesting. Waterstones is good but it doesn't have that same magic about it.

  37. Hes pulled them from here, i guess, as im sure hes quoted it before then gone on a 3+ post rant about how right he is after folk tell him its made up bollocks based on Football Manager and guesswork https://salarysport.com/football/scottish-premiership/heart-of-midlothian/ Theyre claiming Stevie May, who had signed a deal when he joined to challenge our highest earning player ever, is on £600 a week, less than our 2nd choice keeper and over £2k a week down on his previous contract.

  42. Been trying something new, shaded area is "Scottish Premiership standard" range, excluding the OF really... He's always been a sort of top half Premiership CM. All round quality shows in how his attacking score and defensive scores are high dependent on what role hes asked to play. Always been a great finisher when given chances. Maybe struggles to play the more "playmaker-y" passes forwards but thats it really.

  43. When it comes down to it, I think a lot of people quite like the idea of everybody else continuing to shop the way they always did while they themselves shop online or visit retail parks/hypermarkets, which would allow the old-style shops to remain open as an exercise in nostalgia the once or twice a year they want to use them. It doesn't work when a critical mass of people are thinking the same way though. Record shops are the classic example...the vast majority of people either buy online, stream or download, and all that's left on the UK high street is HMV which itself is a bit of a basket case that has been in administration twice in the last ten years.

  44. Going shopping for albums, choosing them, taking them home and listening to them was some buzz. The streaming generation will never get to experience that. Sad.
