  1. Super sexy TEN for Wednesday. Helps that we had one of those last week.

  2. Ten here too. Think we've had 2 or 3 of those recently. Must have just posted anything they had when we contacted them this morning.

  3. I’m not a lorry driver but I’ll bite at this. A slip road is not a merge, it’s a give way - traffic on the main carriageway has right of way. You’ll know the HGVs will be doing 56mph, it’s up to you to either get the boot down to get in front of them or ease up early and slide in behind. They are under no obligation to let you in.

  4. To play devils advocate - If I was that guy and I had scared these people off my property I would not be then getting in to my car and trying to mow them down. I would probably go back in and check on my partner who is apparently in the very very early stages of pregnancy. Possessions can be replaced but lives can’t. This guy has ruined his own life due to what some could perceive as a short temper. Agree whole heartedly a 22 month custodial sentence is ridiculous and it’s a joke the 2 guys avoided a prison sentence due to injury, but the guy should have just taken a second to realise chasing after these people in his car over a failed burglary is a moronic idea.

  6. Atmospheric day in the Highlands today - I had a last day of holiday to take, so went for a midweek bonus walk and did a couple of Corbetts in Glen Orchy. I always forget how great an area this is - the views today contained some of my favourite hills - Cruachan Horseshoe, Black Corries, Ben Lui, Ben More/Stob Binnein (looking particularly nice) and a great view down to Bridge of Orchy and beyond.

  7. Holy shit this is tough going. Folk losing their shit over us getting a very winnable cup draw followed by them losing their shit over the club launching an initiative to try and fill a well document £400k hole in the finances.

  9. I would argue that a teacher in England has a better understanding of the stresses, pressures and (your obsession) days worked faced by teachers in Scotland than most posters on here. For you to pop up and tell such a teacher - who has made a coherent point about the conditions faced by teachers - that their views are invalid because they're not in Scotland shows a shocking lack of self-awareness.

  12. That's where you're wrong. He's a player that is exciting, can play as a striker and in the number 10 role. He's a player that raises 'bums off seats' when he's on the ball running and terrorising defenders with his dribbling and lethal finishing. If it wasn't for his injury, he'd be currently playing in the Leeds United team. I would describe him as a 'once in a generation talent'.

  13. They are only offering 25 of them. It's a way for some who has 5k to put into the club, or was considered doing so, to get a wee bit extra for it. Not everyone will be interested in owning shares. I'd be surprised if they dont shift them, and have no idea why anyone would have an issue with it.

  14. That week provides a nice microcosm of Scottish football almost 100yrs ago. Kickoffs were 3:15pm... even under natural light in late January and early February. Michael Whelahan the Hibs founder died. Court cases were ongoing for somebody from Falkirk trying to bride a Stenhousemuir player and the Ayr Utd manager & secretary falsely accusing the SFA treasurer of bribing a referee. Scotland agreed in principle to tour New Zealand (but it never happened as they went to USA & Canada instead). There was a solitary Third Division game where Clackmannan drew with Helensburgh. Back then the Scottish League had 56 clubs... Celtic led the First Division, Clyde the Second and Forfar the Third level. Nithsdale were battling for promotion to the top tier whilst that middle division also included Arthurlie, King's Park, Bo'ness, St Bernards, Armadale, Bathgate and Broxburn amongst its members. In the bottom rung could be found mighty Vale of Leven, Dykehead, Royal Albert, Mid Annandale, Leith, Lochgelly, Beith, Solway Star, Galston, Peebles and Johnstone. There was a solitary Highland League game where Inverness Citadel beat Forres, and a solitary East of Scotland League game where Coldstream won at Selkirk. Farce reigned in the Midland Junior League after a telephone call cancelled Panmure v Kirkcaldy... even though Mrs McIntosh had meant Kirkcaldy A v Panmure A when she rang. It was a bad day on the roads: All the Scottish Cup replays were rapid 3 or 4 days later on weekday afternoons. That didn't stop 9,000 turning up at Easter Road and 25,000 at Tynecastle amid strong attendances: Easter Road again? Broxburn sold-out home advantage to Hibs in return for members being admitted free and Hibs paying for all of Broxburn's supporter buses. (On that topic: Nairn and Breadalbane had already sold-out home advantage in their initial ties, to St Johnstone and Falkirk. Dundee v Inverness Caledonian had gone midweek to avoid clashing with Dundee Utd v Hearts). Even an apparently unattractive Monday afternoon league game at Coatbridge between Albion Rovers and Armadale drew 1,000 to see stuffy 0-1 away win. Forfarshire had as many clubs in R2 draw as Glasgow. Hearts beat Dundee Utd at 3rd time of asking - back at Tynecastle the following Monday afternoon before 20,000. Of course in those days there were not only cup replays but they were unlimited replays, Football cartoons were popular:

  15. It's possible to believe that: a) Teachers are reasonably well paid for the hours they are contracted to work; and b) The wages of teachers have been impacted by rising costs / inflation and thus they are deserving of a payrise that they are willing to fight for. It's not one or the other.

  16. In fairness, the proposal is to remove charitable status, not get rid of private schools, and all the proposal means is that private schools will need to charge VAT on fees. It doesn't mean that you or I can't send our kids to private schools, just that it will get more expensive. Similarly, you can still pay for tutors as has always been your right, so I'm not sure where this thin end of the wedge argument is coming from. I'm also not sure about the 'catchment area' argument. Nobody is stopping you or I from sending our kids to private schools, they are just saying that VAT will now be applied. Similarly nobody is stopping you or I from moving to this area or that area. On the plus side it will raise much needed finance which will help to try and raise standards across the UK. I'm not sure that I care much about whether Eton's already considerable property portfolio is threatened, or if they don't get a second rowing lake (part lottery funded). I do however care about whether local state schools have sufficient funding to provide better educational facilities to pay better wages and attract more people into teaching etc. Yours, aDONis

  26. You wouldn't pick a scale of how hard the graft is and attempt to extrapolate it out, so I have no idea why you would do this for time. Its a salary for a job done. Your money for my skills. Society needs schools, schools needs teachers, teachers need salary. This sort of logic comes across as absolute bitterness that teachers get good time off. The salaries you have quoted are what it costs to have a teacher. That's really the end of the matter.

  30. Why are teams obsessed with all seater grounds? Totally understand that some had no choice with the previous ludicrous rules but now that those rules don’t exist why not have terraces? It’s cheaper to build, gives fans a choice and definitely improves the atmosphere. A nice covered terrace at each end would make Lesser a cracking wee stadium.

  32. One of the great stories in our history! Keanu will be coming back to Paisley 20 years from now getting a hero's welcome. To think we were delighted he made the squad and could now feasibly be starting in a knock-out game against Argentina! No doubt some decent-sized clubs will be in for him. How much?

  34. I still don't think you get it. First, this discussion is about the pay and conditions faced by teachers. Second, it is possible that English teachers on lower pay than Scottish ones believe that all teachers should be paid better. I'd like to hear their views, even if you want to censor who can and cannot contribute. Finally - and bear with me here - who are you to say who is and is not irrelevant? I'd listen to a teacher over your google-based research any day.

  36. Incredible to think that he got paid for that risible nonsense. The holes in it are so obvious as to not require pointing out. A bright high-school student of either political stripe could rip that article to bits. It's interesting that the unionist argument these days has become so flimsy as to endorse basic logical fallacies and denial of reality. I have no issue with people who are unionists because it's an emotional thing for them, but that's really all we see these days. Pre-2014 and pre-Brexit there was a reasonable poltical and social argument for being in the union. There's no longer even pretense at either of those existing now. All there is is obfuscation and denial of the shifting sands. There are questions for the Yes movement to answer. But it's hard to argue they're bigger than those that the union has shown it cannot answer.
