  1. Kind of kept off of this. I have found the football far too frustrating recently and it’s basically the same criticisms being rinsed and repeated each week as the same craziness in this shit show of a season keeps happening each week however… Just thought I’d have my tuppence worth after hearing that Dick said fans are being unrealistic How could you possibly even come away with that? There’s been absolutely zero expectations placed on him or the team. We have watched utter pish for 5 month now, our last home game we had 1800 there, lost a last minute goal and there was barely a squeak of criticism towards him or the team. The only time there has been any discontent from the terraces has been when he’s taken our best player by a million miles off the park and replaced him with Deri fkn Corfe Is it too unrealistic to expect, after being backed big time by the board, to have a striker and wingers on the park, you know so we can be an actual football team? Is it too unrealistic to expect us to have done much better in the market? We signed young Aberdeen left backs to play in place of Bobby Linn our best player, that’s outrageous. Our best summer free agent signing is a 20 year old from the Highland League who we are practically relying on upfront, that’s if we actually decide to play with a striker. We took trialist after trialist on, fans could all tell they weren’t up to it. Is it too unrealistic to expect that our manager, who has years and years of experience in the Scottish Leagues to recognise that, something every single fan could see. Is it too unrealistic to expect that we do not sign these guys? Is it unrealistic to expect your extremely experienced manager not to make 5 batshit crazy substitutions every single week. When everyone and their dug can see what an unsettled unorganised mess we become every fucking time we do it. Is it too unrealistic to expect to see our star man and club legend playing football matches while he’s still clearly fit and able? Bobby has been the only single source of enjoyment any paying customer has had this season and DC seems to do everything he can do to take the guy off the park. Even going as far as benching him when Bobby himself had enough of it, purely out of spite. Nobody can tell me that is in the interest of the club, the fans or the team and players. We have NOTHING going forward without him just now. Is it too unrealistic to expect to have a side who can actually venture into the oppositions half from time to time? This diamond midfield with McKenna (another central midfield player) and whoever uptop is absolutely chronic, anyone with a pair of eyes can see it. We have absolutely zero width or attacking presence on the park. It’s so easy to play against. Is it unrealistic to expect us to line up in a way that doesn’t make us look completely clueless. The fans are most definitely not unrealistic, all anyone wants to see is an actual football team. Yes the signings haven’t been great but we do have a lot of good players. We have a good good keeper we are strong in defence and we have some good midfielders. We will never get the best out of any of them though if we play with no strikers, no wide men and especially with no Bobby Linn on the park. Fucking play Bobby as much as he is physically able to, give Shanks a chance upfront, put someone out on the right wing. It cannot possibly get any worse than it is at the moment. It’s eye bleeding to watch and we never ever look like getting a result. Have a go at the very least and put out something that resembles a balanced football team on the park even if it means leaving some players on the bench

  2. Loving the references to "the Faroese guy" John Frederiksen. Its not exactly the hardest name for English speakers to recall or pronounce, is it?

  6. 4 new 48hr strikes announced by the RMT for Network Rail workers for 13/14 and 16/17 December, then 3/4 and 6/7 of January. A pain in the arse for me, having trains booked to London down the 3rd and back 7th of January, so had to book flights. Slight inconvenience on my part, but nothing compared to the workers having to lose a lot of wages at this time of year. Anyway, up the workers and f**k the tories.

  10. As @VincentGuerin said in another thread, you could in theory exclude pretty much any country in the world from hosting a World Cup if you look hard enough for a reason. Britain's colonial past, US international aggression, Russia invading Ukraine, and on and on. But this one is different for a number of reasons. Firstly, homosexuality is not just frowned upon but illegal. A gay person in Qatar can be arrested and imprisoned. Human rights are not just neglected but actively pursued by the authorities. Add to that, the country had no infrastructure in place to host the World Cup when they won the bid - they won purely because they paid off enough corrupt FIFA officials. For this, FIFA needs IMO a complete overhaul/abolished. Then we get to migrant workers. forced to surrender passports to their employers and forced to pay agents to get there for work - very much mirroring the people trafficking we are seeing in small boats crossing the channel right now. Lack of rights, facilities, healthcare, safety and so on leading to a huge number of migrant deaths, and a significant number working on construction for these stadiums. Officially 5 people died per stadium, unofficially this could be far higher.

  11. "Using foul and abusive language towards players" "Behaving in a manner that is totally unacceptable " "Behaviour that causes concern and anxiety amongst Arbroath Football Club supporters " The club says it will not tolerate such abusive behaviour and take positive action to address it. Thought I was reading a statement from the club to address Cambell's meltdown when he was screaming in Bobby Linn's face, but no. Some consistency would be good.

  14. Blaming Covid etc. is a smokescreen. Even for those close to the club and the personalities involved, it’s nigh on impossible to establish who has been responsible for what. My keenest observation would be that those mostly involved in the development of football are not those involved in running the club. But even in that, there’s a nuance that says it could be completely the opposite, depending on who is really running the club. There has also been a policy of distancing going on; we are run by a committee, no board, and many members and supporters had access to these people. That access is now much more contained. The formal access route is almost non-existent now. Communications have been poor. The latest example of this was just this week when members were advised that privileges they used to enjoy at Hampden are no longer available, most notably access to the centre stand and private facilities. The reason given was due to other events in the centre stand lounges, hosted by the stadium operators. I’ll boldly predict though that those at the club who will soon be part of the elite, gated-community at Lesser’s West stand will still enjoy the Millennium Lounge and Director’s Box at Hampden, well away from the rest of the fans If you’ve previously been a Director at a big club, say Celtic or Hibs, having tiered exclusivity is the norm. We have a hardcore support of 500, a third of which travelled to Kirkcaldy on Saturday, so the ratios are very different. Despite the incomers regularly mentioning our club’s great history and that we need to keep the QP ethos, nothing is further from the truth. QP were pioneers, they took the beautiful game to the world and freely shared. Our ethos was inclusiveness and everyone welcome. Now it’s the haves and don’t haves. Just like the rest of British society. Which brings us back to the stadium. A succession of poor choices, ignoring good advice from people at the club who cared enough to offer their skills for free, at least two million quid wasted. In any other business heads would have rolled. A dependency has been created that we can’t now do without. That’s why a thousand seats were given up to create 40 really good seats and a lush dining room. It’s bad enough being the haves and have-nots. Now we’ve added in the have-mores. Ethos my arse!

  17. Absolutely this. There are only a very small number of clubs that can afford to implement a serious style of play consistently like Barcelona or Ajax and that comes with shitloads of money and years of developing. Trying to stick rigidly to one "style" at this level or the one above is just being narrow minded. Yes, you can try to play a certain way but there comes a time when that won't work and you need a plan B. AJ and Craw struggled with that, Hughes and Grant failed miserably with it. McPake has chopped and changed the formation with relative success so far.

  18. I'm just over 5 months deep with our wee yin and I would say to prepare yourself for the first 3 months being utterly shite, you being constantly tired and probably countless times you'll question if you're capable of doing it. Things get immeasurably better after that though (or has done for me). Their bodies work a bit better, they start seeing properly and reacting to things and wee tiny things will bring you so much joy. As for what you should know, nurses and health visitors will tell you the really important stuff but you'll realise very quickly that everyone is just fucking winging it and you'll find what works for you and your wee yin. Get into a routine that suits you all as quickly as you can and you'll be fine. All the best.

  22. That’s a really poorly judged statement from the club. How about releasing one sometime in the last 8-10 weeks along the lines of: “Everyone at the club shares the fans frustrations at how the season is going so far. Rest assured that as much as possible is being done behind the scenes to improve results and performances. We have every confidence that Dick Campbell, his coaching team and our talented squad of players (and Deri Corfe) are the right people for the job, and will turn this round in due course. Please be patient and continue to give Arbroath Football Club the same wonderful support and backing you have given us over the years, we need it now more than ever. ‘Mon the Lichieeeeeesssss! And f*ck the Mo. Signed The Board” Absolute bullshit and hot air of course but at least it’s taking a bit of responsibility for the ongoing shambles and recognising the fans, very justified, concerns. ETA not saying I condone arsehole behaviour and it should be called out but where is the pearl clutching when certain high profile fans behave horrifically at games?

  25. No. But wherever that chap acquired them is maybe a more pertinent question. I however didn’t ask. When in the queue to bank them I did however notice that they were sequentially numbered. Think they’ve been out for a wee bit of fresh air and been sent straight back. Probably much like their previous-but-one custodian.

  26. That's Scottish Internationalist and ex Albion, Celtic, Hearts, St Johnstone etc John Colquhoun's dad, also John Colquhoun, number 7 for Stirling. Yet another John Colquhoun played briefly for Stirling Albion in the early 90s, who may have been a cousin, prior to the Internationalist Colquhoun, now a football agent, returning to finish his career, this time for Albion at Forthbank, having left the club from Annfield. EDIT to add:

  30. It's all about the enamel dial - which I think is beautiful in pretty much all their colours. Well apart from green, of course. I posted about them a couple of years back and would definitely consider them just because I like the look. I'd not see it as an investment, though. Their Model 1 in Iron Cream with a hand wound movement would be a cracking dress watch

  36. In the post match video interview, McPake said something like “people talk about the right way to play. I don’t really agree with that”. McGlynn the other week was taking about styles of play etc. McPake, so far, has got it right by being bloody minded. Winning is the most important thing. Everything he and the CEO said in the summer has been correct. Get back to just winning games and never mind about talk of titles, styles of play etc.

  37. I imagine a lot of the frustration comes from the lack of communication from Queens Park regarding the stadium build, misinformation relating to the moves to ochilview/falkirk/firhill. I'd be frustrated as I see the club doing good things on the pitch but they lose a massive amount of momentum in terms of attracting fans by playing home games miles away. Think how good it would have been for Queens Park to have moved in to a shiny new stadium on the back of promotion from league 2 to league 1, how many more locals/families might have been interested in what was going on with the team on their doorstep, turning pro, going full time, winning games then taking that in the championship the following/this season. It's a big missed opportunity.

  41. You must know most of what you're saying is rubbish though. It's good to know Hertz fans are so insecure about their own position though. This year's figures don't including the millions we made in players sales, which more than cover these losses. We are also highly unlikely to pay to replace a whole squad and management team and finish 10th recurrently. Are you going to come back and give the opposite patter when our figures suggest bumper profits next year, when the player sales appear in that year?

  42. On a positive note I thought it was great to see the St.Mirren Women's team getting to play at the SMiSA yesterday and the social media output around the game, as has been the norm this season, was top class. Well done the girls on an excellent 3-0 win to boot.
