  3. First off, I've been lurking in this thread for years and it is very much one of the best places on the internet. Thanks to all that have provided great content over the years - particularly, as somebody who has been living abroad for quite a while now, those posting their experiences at the lower tier and non-league grounds back home. Provides me with something as close to sentimentality as I'm likely to get. Osasuna 2-0 Real Valladolid, La Liga Att: 19,249 Got into Pamplona about 45 minutes before the match and really struggled to get a taxi to the stadium which is a good hour walk from the station. Managed to get there with a couple of minutes to spare thanks to a driver without much concern for traffic lights. The stadium itself is a cracking new build. Had bought tickets in advance for the upper tier which came it at €45 each so not the cheapest. We were sat above the Osasuna ultras and there was a cracking atmosphere all game. Valladolid seemed to have sold out the away end - quite unusual for Spain - but you wouldn't have known they were there if it wasn't for the purple catching your eye constantly. There was the usual coating of nut shells in the stands and half-time sandwiches. A great experience all in. Osasuna are a good side this year - currently sitting 5th - and dominated the game. An early penalty followed by a quick second goal pretty much killed off the game in the first half. The home side should have won more convincingly but squandered plenty of chances. The stadium is about a half hour walk from the historic centre of Pamplona. It isn't the most spectacular town on the peninsula - although I'm sure the bull run is very impressive in its own way - but the little bars in the winding old streets away from the main square are as good a place to have a few Sunday evening drinks as anywhere. Most people were taking their drinks and standing on the street which made for a nice atmosphere. I managed to avoid all the Americans looking to walk in the footsteps of Hemingway too which was a great relief.

  5. I’m pretty scunnered with this in all honesty. Since VAR came in Hibs have had 3 games, 1 win and 2 defeats, 5 goals scored, 6 conceded, the results are what they are and they’re not the problem, it’s the removal of the uninterrupted celebrations and anticipation when my team attack. For the first time ever I’m now debating in my head whether I want to continue to watch my team every week and it’s nothing to do with the football standard because we’ve been a lot worse than this. Every time we attack, instead of me thinking “oh we could score here” I find myself overanalysing in my head if there’s been a foul in the build up or whether someone has been offside. Out of the 5 goals we’ve scored, I’ve only actually enjoyed one of them and that was because it was the first and I totally forgot VAR existed for a good 20 seconds after the ball hit the net, each of the others I was worrying about fouls and offsides (apart from one which was a penalty but who gets excited over penalties going in anyway unless they’re in the last minute?). I genuinely find myself really sad about it all to be honest, my team have been a huge part of my life, a huge part of my relationship with friends and family and I’m at the point where this change in the game has ripped the excitement away from it all. When Hibs have been shite, of course it’s not been fun but you still get those moments when you attack however rare they may have been where you get that little bit of excitement, in the past 3 games I’ve just not had that. I’ve still got my season ticket which will do me until the summer and even after that then I suspect I’ll still go along quite alot as a social thing as it’s an excuse to see pals/family but I honestly feel like my days of spending a substantial portion of my time consuming content about the game and my team might be at an end, At the moment I’ll spend hours every week reading stuff about football, listening to podcasts, watching things, searching for news and rumours but I honestly feel like “what’s the point?” Everything that you look at and think about relating to football all comes down to watching your team and the excitement of scoring goals to win games. If you don’t have that excitement anymore then what actually is the point in giving it the time of day? I’ll obviously see how things go between now and the end of the season but I genuinely feel upset because I’m not sure if I can continue my love for football like I’ve had for all my life, it’s all I’ve ever known and f**k knows how else I’ll spend my time but this just has taken all enjoyment away from me. I don’t know if I’m the only one feeling this way but it’s utterly shite.

  14. Real Betis 3-0 HJK Helsinki, Europa League Att: 35,384 A pretty straightforward win for Real Betis who had already qualified for the knockout rounds. Betis scored a screamer early on but HJK looked competitive and performed impressively until the home side got their second late in the first half. The home side brought on a number of their big hitters in the second half and should have really scored more than three. The big disappointment of the day was missing out on seeing Joaquin, who was out injured. Probably the last opportunity to see him before he retires as he is now 41 - incredible to think he was 21 when Championship Manager 4 came out. The Estadio Benito Villamarin is a big concrete lump from the outside but a fantastic stadium from the inside. It is about a 45 minute walk from the Plaza de Espana through a pretty affluent area of Seville. There's not a whole lot of options for food and drink around the stadium so I ended up getting a hotdog from a van behind the Gol Sur which was decorated in Legion Espanola posters - Betis are definitely the stauncher of the two big clubs in Seville. My broken Spanish became a bit less expansive when I noticed the decor but they only asked for a couple of Euros and not Gibraltar. The atmosphere in the ground was a bit disappointing but not too surprising considering the game was meaningless. The ground erupted a few times when songs that were obviously fan favourites were started but otherwise the home support was pretty muted. HJK brought around 400 and they sang non-stop from kickoff. A little known Scottish referee called "Willie Collum" held the whistle for this one. He didn't have a bad game. Conor Hazard of Celtic was in goals for HJK and had a decent game despite the score. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up in January as the Finnish season is now finnished. Scottish Premiership clubs with goalkeeping struggles will surely be having a think about him.

  18. Thanks. It’s not a massive issue for someone who really wants to go to the game. I’ll get a ticket this week and get the train up, but I’d be amazed if that situation hasn’t affected the overall away supports at Dens this season. If you’re someone who is on the fence about going, the thought of having to buy a ticket and get it posted out to your home alongside it being the most expensive day out in the league is probably enough to make you say, “I won’t bother this week”. I understand the conjecture about it being easy enough to do - it is not a massive problem - but it’s extra steps that no other club makes you do and folk will ultimately use that as an excuse not to go who would quite happily attend other away days.

  19. I like Hammell but going to Tynecastle with a midfield 3 of Goss, Spittal and Slattery was… bold. Chuck in Penney who’s good going forward but isn’t a great defender and it wasn’t a surprise we were so open and shipped 3 goals- could and should have been a few more as well. Lamie and Sol get slaughtered but I have some sympathy with them. They might not be great but the lack of protection they get every week and the sheer amount of defending they’re bring asked to do is bound to lead to mistakes. Take Lamie’s booking yesterday, he was dragged out to the touch line and was forced to take one for the team because Ginnelly had got in behind Penney for the 3rd or 4th time. Yes Sol gives away the pen for the winner but Cochrane walks through 3 or 4 Motherwell players without anyone putting a challenge in just like Tillman did a few weeks ago. Now it’s one thing adopting an open, attacking approach when you’ve got plenty of goals and quality in the final third. Quite another to do it when Connor Shields is part of your front three. On a positive note, Moult made a difference when he came off the bench and showed IF(a very big if) we can keep him reasonably fit he could contribute. Van Veen and McKinstry both improved as well with his introduction and there were positive signs of some nice link up play between them. But aye, while not going full Alexander at some point Hammell is going to have to recognise he doesn’t have the players to play the way he wants to and needs be a bit more pragmatic with his approach- at least in the short term.

  21. You always get supporters who believe unwavering loyalty gets them their most bestest fan badge. Must be even easier when you don't clock up thousands of miles, spend thousands of pounds and give up hundreds of hours following your club every season... Add in the complication of course of having a personal relationship with the manager too. CLEARLY everyone will be happy with the last three results and our place in the table/points total but it's just burying your head in the sand to not be aware of the bigger picture... xG-xGA Table: Celtic +1.54 Rangers +1.49 Hibernian +0.75 Motherwell +0.09 St Mirren -0.28 Hearts -0.30 Kilmarnock -0.38 Aberdeen -0.40 Livingston -0.49 Dundee United -0.52 St Johnstone -0.84 Ross County -0.88 We were badly outworked at Kilmarnock and Livingston. We were getting absolutely nothing at Easter Road before the red card either. The players showed yesterday how hard they can work though, so there is no excuse for not producing that every week now. The quality won't always be there but they've set the standard for work ethic. Everyone that lost faith in the manager wants him to prove them wrong but nobody will need the complimentary ticket brigade to highlight that if it happens. We'll all hold our hands up.

  22. In amongst this doom and gloom fest it should be noted that after more than a third of the season we are currently THREE points off third. We would have snatched anyone's hand off if that had been offered even before a ball was kicked but more so after the LC campaign.

  23. Loads of other clubs have sponsor a brick/board/step/shorts/shirt/seat etc. Why shouldn't we? As for the fireworks, it's been said by others but if people want to pay it they can, no-one is forcing them at gunpoint. The club should have been utilising the facilities at the rock for the last 20 years like all other clubs do. But once again now that we've started actually offering alternative revenue streams some fans have to moan about it. We have an extraordinary number of whingers in the support. The club really is damned if they do, damned if they don't.

  24. It may come across as a bit glib to say there is no difference between Labour and the Tories but, here we are from the horses-arses mouith on the 3 defining issues of our generation: 1) Too many furriners 2) Get Brexit Done 3) Yes it's a voluntary union, no there is no mechanism to leave ( and even if the Supreme Court rule in favour) Of course there are other issues but, in terms of policy and what will define who and what we are as a nation(s) and a people these 3 things, immigration, our relationship with Europe and the constituion, everything flows from this. And you can't put a fag paper between them. c***s. This interview is on the one hand a fucking disgrace. Utterly disingenuous, dog whistling, econmically illiterate gratuitously offensive patroinising supercilious dismissive anglo-splaining fucking twaddle. On the other hand it proves that everything that I have said about them is right. Happy to admit that despite knowing the above was true for some time, this has ripped my knitting in particular: The position that the massive labour shortages in the UK are restircted to "tech" and that immigration should only be allowed for specialised nebulous bollocks like "innovation" is so stratospherically far from the truth it defies reason. Keir Starmer is not an idiot, so he must know that this is untrue but, for narrow political expediency he'll trot this fucking nonsense out anyway. The pressures on recruitment and retention right now are ludictrous, inflationary and we're now seeing the massive spike in vacancies tailing off, not because they are being filled but because they are being withdrawn due to lack of resource. This is death spiral economics. Every level, every sector, is crying out for resource, not just manufacturing, not just tech, not just health, not just hospitality, not just education but everywhere. The only area the UK is not needing some level of external non-domestic resource is c***s. We're demonstrably over flowing with those.

  28. I think there are a few harsh takes here on the bold KVV. Him and Moult were constantly communicating with each other and I felt that KVV thrived on having someone take the weight off his shoulders. At our level you can’t argue with 10 goals and the reason he is greedy is because he doesn’t trust the players around him. I mean would you pass to Shields or Tierney or take a shot yourself? He needs better support. Hopefully if we can get Moult on the pitch a bit more after the World Cup . I also feel that McKinstry is starting to show a bit of form, he showed a great first touch hopefully he can start driving towards the box rather than laying it off inside.

  31. I think I’ll head to the game on Saturday and pay in at the gate. Or maybe I could buy one online, as I can for every other team in the league? Perhaps I could buy a ticket from the office at the stadium in Dundee? No, I’ll need to call the office and get a £24 ticket put in an envelope and posted to my house, or drive to Kirkcaldy to buy a ticket during the office open hours. Seriously though, why are Dundee making it as hard as this to buy a ticket? Why are none of the usual, widely used methods not being offered? What’s the issue?

  32. A few weeks back I was at the Limassol Derby. Apollon Vs Aris, the derby is known as the derby of the gods. But, Apollo was not smiling on Apollon as the traditionally smaller Aris ran out 3 nil winners. Big name for Aris bring Alexander Kokorin. The infamous russian striker who was jailed for battering a government official whilst with St Petersburg. Far too good for this level and it showed as he opened the scoring with 15 to go. Apollon couldn't lay a glove and the route was completed in the 89' and 95' minute after the goalkeeper gave away a penalty. Some atmosphere as the crowd never stopped singing.

  33. Good morning, Predictors! Last week’s results were;- Hurlford United 0 v 1 Cambuslang Rangers Pollok 0 v 2 Irvine Meadow XI St. Roch’s 0 v 5 St Cadoc’s Craigmark Burntonians P v P St. Anthony’s Port Glasgow Juniors 1 v 3 Irvine Victoria Harmony Row 1 v 2 Thorn Athletic What about this Premier League, eh? It is nearly impossible to predict. Almost no points were scored in the first two matches this week and St. Cadoc’s handed out an unexpected doing as well. However, a few players managed to snag correct scores for the Port Glasgow or Harmony Row games which took them into the teens for points this week. Top of the list was @dagane who leapfrogs into joint 4th place with 19 points and @funky monkey close behind on a respectable 17 points. You may notice that our league is now down to 17 players. That’s because, sadly @Craig fae the Vale has had to drop out of the competition after accepting a post on the WoSFL management committee. I’m sure we all wish him every success in the role. It’s obvious by his posts on this forum that he is a true fan of this level of football and will be an asset to the beaks. Who knows, he may even pop into this thread from time to time to say hello in his blazer! Incidentally, although he has left, his entry money hasn’t as he pointed out he didn’t want it back. A fine gesture. All the best, Craig! Here are the current standings:- Wk 9 CS Total 1 Broomhill Ultra 8 10 157 2 beith19 7 5 115 3 Kenny*******Powers 7 4 109 4 dagane 19 2 108 4 93Glens17 8 2 108 6 funky monkey 17 3 96 6 Spyro 8 2 96 8 Darvel legend 14 5 93 9 Shannon 12 2 86 10 happy 11 2 85 11 jimbaxters 4 2 81 12 Shanner 2 1 75 12 passbackdave 13 2 75 14 BC63 11 0 73 14 coineanach 4 0 73 16 coolerking83 8 1 70 17 Fredeye 7 1 66 A bit of a mix this week as there is only one Premier League game on this Saturday, so I have stuck in a cup match (score after 90 mins applies). There are a lot of midweek games on this week, but I thought it would be a push for us all to get predictions in before Wednesday then again before Saturday. Let me know if you agree and I may look at it for future weeks. This Saturday’s games are;- Darvel v Kirkintilloch Rob Roy Arthurlie v Kilwinning Rangers (WoSFL Cup) Neilston v Johnstone Burgh Ardeer Thistle v Greenock Juniors Lanark United v Bellshill Athletic Easterhouse FA v Rossvale Academy Awra’ best!

  34. Watched the Falkirk TV highlights. Confirms that they didn't really create anything of note but the best bit was the commentary. "36 minutes gone before Dunfermline's first shot on target" (Falkirk's came in the 91st). "AWWW Come on ref! Its not even obvious!" talking about Bene barging over Burrell (not sure what that means. Maybe he meant its clearly obvious?). Grudging praise at the full time whistle as it fades out so we can't hear the rest or get the post mortem on Falkirk. Chef's kiss indeed.

  35. Yeh it’s easy to lord it up because we’re on a good wee run. But pretending everything was fine last season and in many of the games this season is just silly and naive. If everyone just quietly accepts when we put in poor performances then where is the pressure to do better? Posting constructive criticism on the internet is fine, I’m sure the manager doesn’t read or care about it too much anyway. And nobody can criticise how well St Johnstone fans have stuck behind their team despite the massive disappointment of last season, continued into the early part of this one. That today was one of Callum Davidson’s best performances as a manager since we won the Scottish Cup, great to see. We’re looking solid in defence and with a threat going forward. But we’re far from the finished article; we’ve carried an element of luck in the two recent OF home matches which on other occasions we might have been a couple of goals behind before we even got going, we’ve yet to put in a 90 minute performance, and we also still haven’t shown we’re completely comfortable taking a game to other teams around us in the league. But the signs are positive and we look to be heading in the right direction. Long may it continue.

  37. My point has only ever been that Callum Davidson has never shown he can build a squad with the future in mind, and that combined with his inability to adapt without his strongest team will cause problems for a club like us. Hes built a good squad this season but he wont be able to sign 5/6 proven Premiership players every Summer so that's where the challenge is. If he can show signs of being able to identify and sign younger talent and build a younger core ill be happy, if he can show signs he can adapt to key players being unavailable/out of form ill be happy. As it is i intend on enjoying this season but remain worried we'll just be a bad window away from another relegation battle as we wont have built a core to see us through the next 3/4 years. Ill never understand why having that viewpoint has been twisted into me hating the manager and having some vandetta to get him sacked, as seems to be constantly suggested.

  38. Poor attitude that. I don't think the OP is expecting too much to sit in amongst where the atmosphere would be, and to expect to sing pro Falkirk/Anti Dunfermline songs. Imagine if we'd been singing Craig Gowans/Gordon MacFarlane songs, would it be acceptable to just shrug our shoulders and go "ah well, what can you expect?". Shite behaviour should always be called out, realistically it's fucking difficult if you're a lone voice doing it at the game, ideally you'd want the club releasing a statement saying to wrap that pish.
