  1. Done a bit of driving for her in paris in 97 in the wee white Fiat Uno. Accidentally clipped a merc, no idea what happened to them, they went down the tunnel and I continued on the main road.

  4. There's really no upside to this. The mandated mourning is over, anyone who wanted to commemorate it has had ample opportunity to do so, it's divisive in a game that Scotland could really do with some decent backing, we're playing against a country that has lost immeasurably more than one 96 year old woman, and I can't imagine that any significant section of the support was calling for this. I think I'll just sit down and stay silent, but plenty will boo and chant, and the media will use it as a stick to beat the Scotland supporters where convenient.

  9. Interesting thread. I find it absolutely compelling that the almost trope-level line trotted out by Rangers and Celtic supporters is 'it looks bad on TV and doesn't sell our game' and 'think of all that lovely money we'd be giving you to improve your squad and make you a better team' as if we should be thankful for their benevolence and altruistic concern at the situation and it's not just a thinly disguised temper tantrum of 'we should get as many tickets as we want' tactfully wrapped up as genuine concern for the state of the Scottish game. Particularly as one of those two sets of fans in the last 10 years advocated mass boycott and the death of Scottish football by starvation (which went well) but now have had a change of heart and want to selflessly fill every seat, not for their benefit of course, but for ours. How heartwarming...

  10. Selling a few thousand extra tickets to old firm fans won't make much a difference to the financial gulf between the other teams and the old firm.

  13. Aye okay Travis Bickle. People creating situations in their head and working themselves into a frenzy over it. I was disappointed our match was off last week, but then I don’t like the way we have free weekends throughout the season for international fixtures either, or the fact we have a big break for a World Cup in mid-season, but just get on with it. suppose I’m used to fixtures getting messed around quite regularly these days. I did something else instead. Yesterday we had a minute of applause before our match. That was it. We’ve had 11 days of constant coverage on the terrestrial and news channels, but I’m going to let you into a secret here.. you’re allowed to switch it off. There’s hundreds of channels available to you. There’s great series’ of programmes and movies at the press of a button. Or the internet with a world of skateboarding dogs to entertain you. You have complete control over what you watch and hear. You could go for a walk, a run, a swim or the gym or out for your tea. People who sit and watch it all simply to work themselves into a rage are as much for the watching as those that follow a coffin round the country just to post photos of themselves doing it. The internet is a breeding ground for both groups of these no-righters.

  14. Our situation was a lot more fortunate than it is for some others. We generally carry a home fan base of 4,000 which with such a small stadium, means that we'll very rarely have <50% of full seats in a match. So we do have a comparatively decent turnout vs capacity situation. The long-term problem of that though is that unlike Killie, Motherwell etc, we've nowhere to dump excess OF supporters. So something had to give...do you carry on giving them an allocation that truth be told, they should have never received in the first place and taking the money whilst you're in top league, or do you play the long game, try and draw in supporters and make it more sustainable in building our own fanbase up? Although on the surface and to most OF fans looked like we voted out of spite, it was a very real issue that a great many fans behind the goals, fans who take their kids to a safe, sanitised matchday atmosphere were being told to shift out for three matches a season and the vast majority of displaced fans, understandably just wouldn't bother going at all. We argued that the presence of these supporters at home matches would offset in the long term, the need to let the away support fill two stands. Indeed, I think I calculated it in pre-season that it would only take an extra 250-300 ST sales to offset the revenue generated by the extra stand completely. A good season built on this foundation could well see this sort of increase in uptake in 2023/24 (around 8-10%) Obviously, winning yesterday was a perfect tonic to compliment the decision. There will be several kids in the crowd who've never saw SMFC play Rangers or Celtic for reasons listed above and would have left on a massive high and hopefully be hooked. Indeed, my stepdaughter's little girl, who is 10, recently started coming to Saints matches with me. She's been to three matches this season and loves it but I kept her out the way yesterday. She went round to her dad's to watch the game and when I spoke to her today, she said she was sitting silently smirking and cheering when we won and her favourite player even before yesterday was Mark O'Hara who she now totally loves (her dad supports Celtic and she didn't want to annoy him by openly cheering for us) but she wasn't even there and got a buzz from it - she's now asked if she can take my ST for the Livi game as she wants to go back and knows I'll be on holiday, so my own dad has agreed he'll take her on the 1st. This will be her 4th Saints match and she's already a supporter and I love the fact that she's so into it. I've explained to her that winning every week is not a guarantee and supporting Saints you'll go through some hard times but you'll appreciate the good times a whole lot more than when you go expecting to win and usually do. And that's the sort of situations and stories that I think most of us hoped would happen by making this decision and improving matchday experience in general. You are severely hindered in doing so by rolling over and giving them as many tickets as they want as in my opinion, it makes you look like you're willing to be second best and propped up by them. Are we ever going to be world beaters? Nah, of course not but it's massively important to have local clubs be the number one priority in the eyes of the local community, that is the one thing you can work to improve.

  17. So, the constitution is not under the umbrella of 'politics' then? That'll be news to a few academics, journalists, politicians around the world. Not involved in party politics, fair enough. But politics involves a lot more than party politics, and a monarchy is 100% inextricably political.

  23. I don’t often post here but wanted to address this post. 500 members and £6k a month is not disappointing. It’s the largest mass fans’ effort Falkirk fans have ever made outside season tickets. Last year, 400 Bairns said they’d sign up, today we have over 500. It’s growing every week and shouldn’t be disrespected. Falkirk fans have achieved this in a matter of months, rather than years, unlike other clubs’ fans’ organisations, many of whom ask less of a commitment from their fans. Many BfL members were already FSS members and many have joined, or generously upped their FSS contributions since B4L closed. The plan had been to run both together for the benefit of the club and both organisations’ members, but that didn’t happen, which was a pity. Things are getting better, slowly, but our club is still vulnerable. Fans’ investment is how we keep our club afloat, and keep the headbangers, crooks and fantasists away. So let’s keep pushing forward together.

  24. This narrative that Porteous is some kind of victim is weird. If Hibs have genuine concerns over his wellbeing, they probably shouldn't try to make him out as some kind of hard man. The clubs official social media outlets have posted photos of him standing and goading over two injured players his season like he's some kind of enforcer. He also posed with a painting of him laughing at an injured Morelos. If there's concern for his mental health stop putting him in the spotlight in such a manner. As it happens I don't think there's any such concern, it's just a convenient out to defend him with.

  25. As for Broomhill, they are a tacky novelty act based on chronic patter and whoring themselves to armchair old firm fans. It’s embarrassing seeing unsustainable, financially doped pish like that challenging for promotion to the SPFL proper while promotion from below is throttled to slow the progress of genuine big teams from the WoS in particular. The lowland league is an absolute shit show and the sooner b-teams, uni teams and glorified boys clubs are flushed out of it the better.

  28. Even if you think the smoke bombs are good (I don't) there's no need or benefit from chucking onto the pitch. We seen in the Airdrie game that the referee will stop the game as long as neccessary and the stewerds won't be in a hurry either. Id also be interested in what if anything we had to pay to Airdrie for that one. Like the wee fanny's in the Pars end on Sat who were over the barriers for an equaliser 55 minutes in, its all just "look at me" bollocks trying to get on some football banter twitter account.

  38. He did indeed HD and I’d expect the starting line-up to reflect that. I’d also expect an experienced bench though. Cliftonville will be a tough opponent, especially at home, and an even game with 25 mins to go needs to be won. This “diddy” tournament represents the best chance of winning a knockout cup for every team that’s in the hat. I think the rejection of it is largely down to the B team introductions but if we somehow made the finals it would suddenly become special. The players in particular will want to win. As for the big picture, a winning run in a cup is massive for morale and team spirit and would boost league performances too. Anyone at Oswestry that night knows how important these games are.

  41. If clubs want a huge travelling support for the cash then that comes with several negatives. While reducing the away support makes the home support more vocal and may encourage more fans to turn up for a better atmosphere. Old firm fans will moan but both of us don't allow in huge numbers of away fans.

  42. Had enough of this. Who did we lock out? You are the opposing team. Your fans got the away stand. You were treated in the same way as every other team who comes to our stadium. Our house. Our rules. Like it, lump it but stop whining about it.

  43. More Scottish clubs need to grow a backbone and start reducing the OF’s allocation. It’s always infuriated me when we’ve given the OF 3 stands, it truly is the utter pits. The happy clapping gimps will say “we need the money!1!1!” but the sensible ones will realise that by doing so you create a totally vile atmosphere that basically becomes a home game for the OF side, who are usually cheered on to a comfortable victory by their thousands fans. So yeah, well done St Mirren for doing that. Even better you kicked them out and managed to beat them as well. Can only be a good thing for the fanbase. That’s how you win over people and get them supporting your local team, not by turning your stadium into an OF party zone.
