  1. I have far more sympathy for Dundee United fans having to endure whatever nonsense tribute Rangers plan on Saturday than I have for any member of the royal family.

  2. Maybe we could just decide football doesn't actually have to be the vehicle for all of the nation's demonstrations of emotion/respect/grief for everything that ever happens.

  12. Quite a bizarre take on Radio Scotland this morning - the presenter was saying to her reporter "I simply cant remember any time when I have seen a crowd this big in the centre of Edinburgh, maybe for the opening of Parliament in 2005" I know that reporter might not have been a football fan, but I can state with absolute certainty that there were far more people in the city centre (from the Royal Mile down) for the parade for Hibs cup win in 2016, and I have also been part of AUOB marches on the Royal Mile with more than yesterday..................... Fannies.

  14. 24 countries the Queen was crowned head of state of in the 1950s, now down to 14. And that was with a popular queen, not her idiot son who is widely disliked. Let's get it to zero! They are running quite a masterful PR campaign, one that they have been planning for decades. The queen steadfastly refused to pay income tax most of her life before eventually 'volunteering' when she was about 65. Whilst other European monarchies have cut costs and got regular jobs she developed a bloated, expensive system of 14 'working royals'. She would always prioritise the interest of her family ahead of the country, including using tax payers money to bail out her peadophile son. Even if they are deposed (which the royals all know will happen eventually, and it's something they plan for) they won't have to work another 1000 years due to the wealth she successfully plundered. Good riddance.

  16. That's something that's struck me. We keep being told that she had this remarkably good sense of humour and was very down to earth. However, the anecdotes wheeled out as evidence are invariably, irredeemably shit.

  19. Minutes silence before kickoff and any players that want to, to wear black armbands. That’s enough. Any attention seeking arseholes that disrespect the silence can gtf. Not a fan of the monarchy at all. But going out of your way to actively disrespect the dead is scummy behaviour. You don’t have to stand for the silence if you don’t want to. But if people want to pay their respects, let them do that. Before the teams come out and once the silence is done, the atmosphere will be everything you’d expect of a Pars v Falkirk match. Just be respectful of those who want to pay their respects for 60 seconds, that shouldn’t be too much to ask of anyone.

  27. There will be a national minutes silence held at 8pm on Sunday. How about rather than disrespting this single, poignant and available to all national moment of reflection, football just fucking well gets on with football rather than attempting it's own series of crass and myopic individual gestures?

  28. Yesterday I collected some blackberries so this morning I tried making jam for the first time. The results were excellent, turns out it’s surprisingly easy to make jam (you only need 3 ingredients). I had some on a slice of toast and it was truly phenomenal. I’ve got the jam making bug now. 460g of berries yielded just shy of two full 340ml jars. I also found a Penny bun bolete so I turned that into an omelette for breakfast. [emoji108]

  30. Was speaking to Mark Whatley yesterday outside my work and he said he would love a return to the Red Lichties ️ So pick up the phone DC and get in touch lol. He said at Gayfield those times were the best and highlights of his career to date. Whilst he said that he also acknowledged the fans probably would prefer a striker or 2 instead lol and said we would come good again saying the fans deserve all the success after all the years of hurt, still keeps in touch with the guys and always looking out for the scores, Such a great guy.

  32. This is an unbelievably disingenuous take. You say "I don't care who wins the war" while advocating for a course of action that could only result in assisting one participant. Either you are being dishonest or stupid. Both could be true I suppose. The assumption you make is that the West had some sort of magic card they could play that would end the war, that there is some magic negotiated solution imposed from above that will end the fighting. Sadly, that isn't the case. The points of de-escalation have come when the Ukrainians have militarily defeated the Russians - the withdrawal from the North of Ukraine around Kyiv came because the Ukrainian forces stopped the Russians and caused them significant losses. The partial reopening of the Black Sea and grain deliveries from Ukraine came as a result of Ukrainian attacks rendering the Russian Navy unable to control that part of the Black Sea (destroying forces on Snake Island, sinking the Moskva, as well as other attacks on Russian warships). Now, in the last few days we are seeing that thousands of square kilometers are being liberated due to the counter offensive. If the West hadn't assisted Ukraine at all the likelihood is not that the war would be over. The first part of the war was disastrous for the Russians and was generally fought without significant Western weaponry or assistance - it was Soviet air defences and artillery that was the most important part of the defence of Kyiv and the battles in the North. Some Western support began to come through after that to assist with the battle for the Donbas but its only really the last few months that it's reached the levels of having a significant impact on the battlefield. This is leaving aside the moral considerations - we know that when Russia occupied towns around Kyiv it carried out numerous massacres of civilians. It was at this point that the Ukrainians stopped negotiating - how can they stop fighting when the enemy is murdering people in this way? Minimising or ignoring this is something that all the crackpot conspiracists, galaxy brained contrarians and bitter ragers on this thread have in common.

  33. Don’t expect much from this game.football wise, it will be interesting to see how Fox approaches this. Hope fully the visiting Arabs will be able to wind the Orcs up into a state of apoplexy by interrupting the minutes silence and all other associated royal fuckwittery.

  38. It would be good if we just politely observed a minute's silence. For the likes of the clowns that polluted the club's social media, if they want to protest so much, just go into your work on the day that the country has given you off.

  41. With my original plans for the weekend - Dingwall for the fitba and a summit camp on Bheinn Bhan on Saturday night/Sunday - totally fucked by the decision to can the whole fixture card, I instead opted for a big day in the area South of the Fort William-Mallaig road. Because it is Munro-free, it's still an area that I haven't been in much compared to other parts of the highlands, so was looking forward to it. The forecast was for things to deteriorate over the day, so I headed up to the parking area late on Saturday night for a car kip and I was on my way at 7am just as the sun was on it's way up The walk in was along an old right of way which was pretty boggy in places but I soon enough arrived at the remote (and lovely) Cona Glen where I had to drop all the height I'd gained so far to start the climb onto Druim Tarsuinn on the far side of the glen. The deer keds were out in numbers at this point - but I had my ked proof top that I've used for the past couple of years on walks like this which meant that the b*****ds couldn't get me. The climb up a gully was surprisingly easy given that everything in this area is steep as f**k and I was up on the ridge and looking at the huge horseshoe I had to do. Tarsuinn is one of the less climbed of the big mountains in scotland - but totally worth the effort. The walk was very rough but the views were fantastic all round - away from the rocky stuff, I loved the view from head of Cona Glen (final Corbett on the left in the distance) The view from Glenfinnan down Loch Sheil is a classic and I've seen it a hundred times but it was brilliant heading up the 2nd Corbett and being at the other end of it - all the benefits and no adult Harry Potter fans. The way off Sgurr Ghuibsachain was hilariously steep and rocky - not a place for a slip as can be seen below - but the walking after that was decent . After that, I had to summon the last of my energy for the 3rd and final summit of the day and then a walk out with a nice backdrop. The first raindrops were hitting the windscreen as I got into the car at 3pm, so the ridiculously early start had worked out. Great walk - very hard going but the location is amazing - would really recommend it. The walk home:

  45. Scotland's independence & whether we have a ceremonial head of state & an official religion are completely different matters. Only Kincy is trying to link them. I'm quite happy to have Chuckles III as our proddy king in an independent Scotland - right up to the moment that we have our referendum on becoming a secular republic, which I will happily vote for.
