  2. There's a known "Turnbull to West Ham for 9m" wind up that a Celtic fan starts every transfer window. Could be just that? Onto last night - usual caveats in place - I absolutely loved that, that's the most I've enjoyed a match in a long, long time. Years. Mostly to do with the intent and what we're trying to do. It's absolutely night and day to GA's reign with essentially the same players. Joe Efford running at full-backs doing stepovers at full pelt? About 6 weeks ago I watched Joe Efford trip over the ball when he was standing still, with no-one near him. Who'da thought not being coached a negative, depressing, joyless fun-vaccuum would make such a difference. Again, there's all the standard things to bear in mind; not only lower league opposition, but lower league opposition not playing well (albeit I think we have to give ourselves at least some credit there...we absolutely went out with the attitude that we're a better side and we'll set the levels here). How many times though have we seen us handle these games with a "we have to respect the opposition, we'll have to be patient" approach and absolutely f**k it when the lower league side is just more up for it. That was more of a "we have absolutely no issues with believing we're the better side here", and I'm absolutely on board with that. And that seemed to flow through each player as well, not just the team as a whole. McKinstry drawing in an ICT player right in front of his gaffer, and flick-flacking past him like he was playing 5's with his wee brothers pals, had me squealing like a wee girl. I haven't squealed like that since I was a wee girl. NO-ONE is even trying flick-flacks in a Graham Alexander side. And you'd probably get subbed off if you did. Again, can't stress enough how much I'm hanging on to a sense of realism in the big picture here, but after 2 years of not even enjoying games we won, I will happily spend today getting carried away with myself over having had a great night watching great football for the first time in fucking forever. Can someone send the full match footage to GA please?

  3. At first I did say "that's a bit Celtic-y for me"...but then it did look quite cool to be fair. Also fair play to the wee boys down at the front of the Cooper starting their own wee singing section. Could feel it starting to spread along the stand already. Reminds me of the very early days of the Bois before they went all Superman Pt. III and started smashing up folks' gaff.

  4. It's simultaneously true that Rangers died and that there is an Old Firm. It's also worth noting how extremely upset Celtic fans get when people use the term. I go out of my way to do so whenever possible. Except when speaking to Rangers fans.

  5. I'd have refused to play as well. Not because I'm vegan, just because it sounds fucking shite.

  7. Seven countries in four weeks looking at bringing in new, exciting players and he was away scouting a striker that evening (was a night where Celtic B were playing, Forest Green and I think maybe either tranmere or Wycombe so I assumed it was one of those teams. Signing 31 year old Nicky Clark for a fee and on a long contract and Connor McLennan on loan completely flies in the face of that though. Wasn’t going to post the above but given we could’ve made either of those signings 2 months ago, don’t really feel there’s much confidence left to protect. Will have to see how the next few weeks go but might be time to start voting with our feet if things don’t improve. Seems it’s the only way the club are going to listen and, frankly, I can think of many things I’d rather be doing than watching the club destroy itself from the inside out. It’s going to take an absolute fortune to sort this mess out too. We might survive this season - personally think it’ll be extremely difficult given the obvious frailties and missing components in the squad - but next summer we’re going to be stuck with a lot of these guys winding down their careers with the only difference being they’ll be a year older and slower.

  11. Manager bemoaning injuries in central midfield but, whilst Hallberg knock can't be legislated for, he must've known the risks he was running with Davidson and MacPherson? To lose everything that Bryson and Craig have brought us over the years (and even Butterfield had experience) and only bring in Daniel Phillips, it's pretty negligent. We simply CAN'T be playing Carey or Crawford in his deep midfield two. I was gonna say for any extended period but really just ever. It can't happen. Lots of focus on the Gordon tackle for the penalty on Sunday but it comes from Carey having to deal with a ball in an area he should never be in. And we are still wasting Hallberg there. Shambles.

  16. Looking at our business I'd say we have had one of the better transfer windows in the championship, we asked for an attacking mid/winger we got it, we asked for another striker even if he is unproven got it. I'm a pretty happy honest man today looking forward to the rest of the season.

  17. Yeats is fine at RB, but he isn't as good as the version of Williamson we saw in his last game. Yeats is also the best guy to play beside McGinn. If Williamson is prepared to show up every week, and I'm prepared to give him the same benefit of the doubt that has seen improvements from others since Airdrie when I assume McGlynn read the riot act, then starting him to allow Yeats into the middle is a no brainer

  18. Pish. We got this from some Aberdeen fans around the time we were pushing ronny deila’s Celtic in the league. None of Aberdeen, hearts and hibs or Diddy premiership sides should be turning their nose up at any of the cups. It’s literally 4 games spread out between august and February. It’s hardly going to derail your league season.

  19. Like so many on these forums you totally miss the point of the term 'Old Firm'. As long as two clubs calling themselves Celtic & Rangers exist to carve up Scottish football into a never ending duopoly with all the financial dice loaded in their favour then 'The Old Firm' remain a term, a fact and a disgrace. See point 2 of your post !

  25. Since when did football become about trying to qualify for Europe rather than trying to win things? I realise that Hearts haven't won the League Cup in most P&B posters' lifetimes, but as someone who has seen my club win it I can say that it's right up there as one of my best days as a Killie fan, certainly more so than, for example, the game against Kaiserslautern.

  30. Former Celtic youth player Jim Beattie passed away today after battling with MND over the last few years. Don't expect many folk to recognise the name, but he was part of the Scotland under 16 squad that were mugged by Saudi Arabia in the under 16 World Cup final at Hampden in 1989. After leaving Celtic he had spells with St. Mirren and Albion Rovers before joining Petershill. He was with us for 10 years and was terrific for us, despite losing almost 2 years after being diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. As well as being a great player he was also one of the nicest guys you could ever hope to meet. RIP Jim.

  32. Marcel Oakley We are delighted to announce the loan signing of 19-year-old right back Marcel Oakley who joins the club on loan from English Championship side Birmingham City. Coming through Birmingham City’s Academy, then academy manager Kristjaan Speakman said, “Oakley has the flexibility to play centre-back or right-back and is a very robust defender who excels in one-v-one duels in either position. His athletic qualities are improving and in possession as a right back he has the physical and technical qualities to join play in high areas of the pitch." Marcel scored the only goal of the game in his senior debut for Birmingham in the EFL Cup against Colchester United and made his Championship debut against Reading. We would like to thank Birmingham City for allowing Marcel to make the move to Gayfield, and Loan Manager Martin O'Connor for his assistance. We look forward to welcoming Marcel to Arbroath! Welcome Marcel! C’mon the Lichties

  36. I hear the club's solicitor passed him a cheque, but it took him three goes to get it under control. As my Granny always used to say, "if a footballer's YouTube showreel is comprised entirely of clips from Spanish leisure centres, he's probably not good enough for the Scottish Championship".

  38. Him and Hammell have one of those "we'll get married at 40 if we're both single" pacts that Americans always make in sitcoms. We'll sign him at 11:59 if he hasn't found a club and we still need someone.

  40. I think a distinction needs to be drawn from the penalties we got at St Mirren and against Livi (which basically came from nothing) and what happened last night - the 2 penalties and the OG last night were all the result of excellent build up play - basically making a lower level opponent uncomfortable enough that they made an arse of it. That's totally different from what was going on under GA. We won't get the time and space we got last night in the Premiership but as a way to show how we want to play and as a means to build confidence, last night was pretty much ideal. Also massively enjoyed watching Tierney last night - he's a young player and hasn't fully clicked yet but some of the touches and turns showed how clever a player he is - really want him to get there (and a couple of goals would probably stop him trying a bit too hard at times).

  41. I understand that ET has promised no new taxes if she becomes PM. The way Tories' minds work, I suspect we will be in for the odd new levy. Or tariff. Or duty. Or toll. Or tribute. Or tithe. Or charge. Or fee. Other alternatives are available. Couldn’t happen? Remember when Sunak couldn't bring himself to introduce a "windfall tax" on energy producing companies? No, no. Taxes? The end of civilisation as we know it Instead, we heard of a "temporary, targeted energy profits levy". Truss will be on an internet Thesaurus as soon as she is declared the winner.
