  2. Tam Cowan is what he is. He's a man in his early 50's, but his tastes and interests are that of someone 25 years older than that. He's not there to appeal to guys in their 20s, 30s or 40s. He's obviously successful at what he does, hence his 17 holidays a year and going out for dinner 300 nights a year. Fair play to him. It's not my cup of tea but there seems to be plenty of folk who like his stuff. Again, fair play to them. He's a good Motherwell fan and he's well known to work his arse off, for free, on many occasions for many different charities up and down the land. Despite his awful patter, I'll give him good guy status.

  3. It looked fairly clear to me that you were rubbishing the subject matter of that Kos article on the basis that the people he was discussing were not in fact "far right" but simply held "wholesome values" The link i included was linked through from that article. The content of that link included quotes from and a link to this video : This video clearly shows a man stating that he believes that homosexuals should be executed en masse by the state for being homosexual. This is a view which you have implied is not "far right" and is in fact "wholesome". I disagree with that view. I don't know whether you believe it or not but you have expressed it. Therefore i hold you in contempt. I also believe that you are, metaphorically speaking "scum". So in summary, because you have described advocating mass murder of people for their sexuality wholesome I called you "contemptible scum". It should have been obvious from the context but i thought i should walk you through it because you seem really stupid.

  4. Whatever the topic or industry, it's a depressing reflection of where we have allowed public discourse to get to, and who we have allowed to become meaningful voices, that when it comes to any kind of appointment to any role, the issue of who or what that person is takes precedence over their competence. This is completely stupid and we are going backwards. Anyone who thinks it is necessary for the holder of that role to be a woman needs to stop and have a long think about where they get their ideas from. It is ridiculous. It's quite worrying how many seemingly-sensible people are up in arms about this. We had a similar fuss a while back in my office. We have a 'Coordinator' for the issue of ease of working here for disabled people. There are several people with disabilities who work here, but the guy who holds the role, and has done for some time, has no disability that anyone knows about. However, he is qualified, knowledgeable, and cares deeply about the role being done well. It was raised by a couple of staff that it would be 'more appropriate' if one of the disabled staff had his role. Fucking ludicrous, and happily the management went out of their way to point out that this role, like all roles in the company, would be awarded based on competence. Personally, I blame social media in the main for situations like this. Bad or overly simplistic ideas can be made to sound sensible and then spread like wildfire, with accompanying baying mobs to shout down anyone who tries to object. It's extremely frustrating to see situations like this. If a job is important, then you want the best person to do that job. Regardless of whether they are old or young or a man or a woman or whatever.

  7. Obviously yours is an extreme example, but I really dislike the "priorities" narrative. A lot of narrative is about getting rid of luxuries completely. There seems to be folk who genuinely believe people should just go to work, run one basic car, eat basic food, and have no treats whatsoever. What's the point of living like that? If two folk working full time can't afford to have an odd luxury here and there that is fundamentally wrong and no amount of folk wailing about "BUT BUT NETFLIX" will change my mind on that.

  10. As Michael Rosen wrote: Fascism: I sometimes fear... I sometimes fear that people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis. Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... It doesn't walk in saying, "Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."

  11. Scott Allan Arbroath FC are thrilled to announce the signing of 30-year-old creative midfielder Scott Allan on a two-year deal. Scott is a naturally gifted footballer whose creativity, work-rate and personality have seen him become a fan favourite at every club he has played for and well known in the Scottish Top Flight Having joined Dundee United at just 10-years-old in 2001, it was Dick Campbell who took Scott on an emergency loan to Forfar Athletic in 2010, before Scott made the move down south signing for West Bromwich Albion. Not only has Scott played Club Football but represented his country at both U17 and U21 level. Scott returned to Scotland and signed for Hibernian in the 2014 season. Scott would go on to have three separate spells with Hibernian playing 129 games, scoring 17 goals and making 39 assists for the Hibees. In his first spell with Hibernian, Scott was named Scottish Championship’s PFA Player of the Year, with 17 assists, 2 goals and helping Hibernian finish second in the Championship. His outstanding season seen Celtic swoop for his signature and whilst at Parkhead, Scott also had lots at Rotherham United and Dundee before joining Hibernian again, this time on loan in 2018 before making the move permanent at the start of the 2019/20 season. Four goals and three assists in his first 7 games of the season, and Scott didn’t stop with two for Martin Boyle in the Boxing Day Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle. As the pandemic hit, Scott had made 40 appearances and scored 10 goals in the 2019/2020 season. Having been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes after joining Dundee United, Scott has never let it get in his way and is a proud ambassador for Diabetes UK. Last season Scott played 23 games for Hibernian, before departing Easter Road in the summer. We are absolutely thrilled to have such a gifted, experienced footballer join our Club, and with a work ethic which matches that of our own team, we are delighted to welcome Scott to Gayfield. Arbroath FC Chairman Mike Caird said “Having had offers from both North and South of the border Scott has decided his future lies at Gayfield and this is a signing that we hope will capture the imagination of our supporters and show a real sign of intent as a Club. We were keen to sign Scott on loan back in January, so I’m delighted we have been able to capture him now on a 2 year permanent deal to compliment our already experienced squad of talented players.” Scott will wear the Number 23 Shirt at Gayfield and If you would like to sponsor Scott's Home, Away or Third Kit for this season please email Paul@arbroathfc.co.uk it will be on a first come, first served basis. 19. Not that I disagree with that, but to play devil's advocate a bit, surely it's a pretty sweet deal for us. We get £££ in compensation, we get a player back ready for first team football who has been in and around a premier league first team, which can only make him a more rounded player. We are now giving him a platform, for the season, to show Leeds what he is all about, to push for the first team and no doubt start to trigger some of the additional clauses we have in the initial deal, meaning more £££. Would love to keep hold off these youngsters but bigger clubs than us lose their top talents on a yearly basis. worded that terribly, but I think it makes sense.

  22. You're a fucking idiot or a c**t. Probably both. MTG has called for the execution of political opponents, the mass deportation of Chinese people, said Muslims should not be allowed to hold political office and called for Christian nationalism in the US. How far to the right do you have to be to see that even Mussolini would be asking her to tone it down?

  24. The UK can’t be a kick in the arse off effective full employment right now. In Scotland there are just 90,000 jobseekers registered. Out of that number, of course you’ll have a small feckless group who have no intention of ever picking up a job but how many will also be officially “job-seeking” only to tick a box and please the DWP? The possible reasons for this are probably endless but single parents with young children and no access to free or cheap childcare, parents who work part-time to cover childcare, zero hour contract workers getting very few hours, cash-in-hand workers engaging in a nice bit of fraud, etc etc etc. The number of people who are completely unemployed and looking for full-time work is as small as it’s ever been, and perhaps as small as it’ll ever get. The real problem with the welfare system is it’s now needed to prop up people in full-time work. Wages are too low, so millions receive a wage top-up via Universal Credit. Childcare is too expensive so millions receive childcare contributions. Rents are too high so millions receive housing benefit. Exactly like giving everyone £400 towards energy bills, the government time and time again treats the effects of the system they’ve merrily created, does nothing about the cause, and then whines about how much it costs. Businesses can be told to up minimum wage, nurseries can be nationalised, rent controls can be introduced, energy price caps can be frozen. None of these things are easy but they simply can’t be arsed with that and instead choose the worst of all worlds - things get worse, and it costs the taxpayer more.

  31. I was in attendance at the Perth hustings protest yesterday evening. Overall, it was heartening to see so many people from ALL walks of life in attendance (close to 2,000 I'd estimate which was far more than I was expecting). There were NHS staff, Teachers, voters from ALL non-Tory parties (Labour, Greens, Socialists, Libdems, SNP, Alba), old/young, ethnic minority groups, refugee protestors, RMT protestors, other Union Groups, international press/media etc etc. The vast majority of whom were there (rightly) to protest and vent their anger and disgust towards the self-serving, racist, narcissistic, disingenuous Tories. For the record, the Tory MP's/MSP's/Cllrs/Donors gleefully claiming all over social media that this protest was hijacked by SNP members and "NATS" looking to cause trouble is absolute nonsense. Most of it was fine. Having said that, it is unfortunate that the actions of a tiny few go on to grab the headlines. James Cook being on the receiving end of abuse and vitriol whilst calmly trying to have a discussion was embarrassing. I'm the furthest thing from a BBC supporter, but he really didn't deserve any of that. How can you expect to win over "soft no's" or "undecided's" if you conduct yourself like that? I should point out that it was just a small group of 3 or 4, (who looked to me like Alba types - go figure) but that's still 3 or 4 too many.

  34. The price of energy was rising before the Ukraine conflict. Why are people trying to conflate two different issues. Russia is still selling gas to Europe and the rest of the world. There has been no supply side shocks, demand side increases or rise in production costs that justify the increases that we are seeing. It is down to speculation and your solution is to reward the financial companies by letting them loan us money to subsidise the speculators. Maybe you missed the part in BP results where they stated that the most profitable part of the business was energy trading. There has clearly been a breakdown in the market and financial measures should be introduced to eradicate speculators from the market. And before we get into a how can you do this argument, the government easily managed it during the 2008 banking crisis with their short selling ban.

  35. ^^^ This. Someone, probably a consortium, would need to be very, very rich, and a bit mental. They could buy any Scottish non ‘OF’ club with a view to an ‘easy’ path to Europe, and would need to completely overhaul an entire playing squad. To beat both OF teams, they’d need to get an entirely new squad of good players willing to sign for a Scottish diddy team, and ply their trade at Livingston away, and a trip to Ross County on a freezing cold midweek in January. The attraction and glamour of swanning around Braehead or Silverburn with their WAGs on a Sunday shouldn’t be over estimated though. Nor their five star digs in Bridge of Weir (maybe they could afford Kilmacolm). Then, the new owners of the Scottish ‘diddy Man City’ would have a squad full of mercenaries, there for the cash. Would they share the dream of Champions League group stage football? I doubt it. To be on a par with the ‘OF’ domestically, and to reach the Champions League group stages, would likely see the new ‘Scottish diddy Newcastle United’ get to a Champions League group where they couldn’t compete with the big European boys, so they’d likely reach the group, then get pumped anyway. Unless these new mental owners of the Scottish diddy team persuaded a squad full of Kylian M’Bappe and Mo Salah types that well fired rolls wi’ square sausage and a tea fae’ Greggs are what they really need in their lives. I can’t see it happening. Just my opinion though. I’m just heading out, so if I see Earling Haaland in Muffin Break in the Livingston Outlets munching a toffee & apple muffin with Robbie Neilson - I’ll let P&B know it could be happening.

  38. I'd play him ahead of Considine on the left personally, give him a run of games. Might be in built bias here but I've never really rated Considine and haven't been overly impressed so far. For an experienced player was hoping he might be in the Duberry or Kernaghan mould in terms of organising, cajoling etc but it seems Mitchell on loan and 20 does that a lot more than him.
