  1. Just want to share this with you all. Our family were shocked and saddened at the death of Falkirk diehard Euan Anderson. A lad who with his family lived 2 doors down from my wife's house in Polmont, my wife was pals with his big sister, it was a very close community within the street. Euan was a massive Falkirk fan, despite his old man being a rangers fan, Euan chose to support his local team and travelled with the Shuttle home and away. I honestly have not met a person more Falkirk daft than Euan, only the legend that was Stevie Black who left us in 2016 being the same as Euan. 4 weeks ago Euan collapsed and died whilst playing 5s with his pals. Last week me and Euan would've been exchanging in banter prior to our teams meeting up in the League Cup, but his untimely death meant that did not happen. The Shuttle have organised for a 25th minute applause to celebrate the life of a Falkirk diehard. I hope that the whole stadium recognise one of their own. God bless you Euan. Hopefully the Bairns do the damage today in your honour.

  2. For those who don’t have Facebook, I just wanted to make everyone aware that we lost a fellow bairn, Euan Anderson, a few weeks ago. There’ll be a minutes applause on the 25th minute today at the game to celebrate Euans life, organised by the guys who run the Jimmy Gilmour Shuttle. One of our own and always in our hearts.

  4. c***s booing at the end can get themselves to f**k. Absolute embarrassment. We’re still very much a work in progress. Defensively absolutely solid and we just don’t look like conceding goals. Still a lot of work to do with our attacking play of course but it’ll come. McGlynn has a massive job on his hands after how dogshit we were last season it takes time to completely turn that around.

  5. Hey all. Not long moved into the area from down south and have taken the plunge with a Sons season ticket for this season. Been lurking here for a little while now so not exactly expecting a flowing feast of champagne Fazball that will echo down the ages while fans and club owners lace daisies into each other's hair, but looking forward to being a regular at the Rock. Maybe bump into a few of you along the way.

  10. Disappointing but ultimately quite an exciting match. Early days but Tyler French doesn’t look like a footballer to me, although Sweeney’s f**k up, after the flukey first, really put us on the back foot. Good spirit to keep battling and on another day we’d have got a draw. I like Thistle though, and McCall, so good luck this season lads.

  11. For some reason, I find it hard to imagine Liam Kelly using the word "toxicity" - I just can't put that word and his voice together GA had run out of road and he has been in football more than long enough to know that - there is genuinely no way back from long months of relegation form crowned with a gold-plated minter against Sligo, one of the worst results in the club's modern history. If there is some kind of narrative that the support suddenly turned on him or he is somehow a victim - that would be pretty dishonest. Motherwell managers survive by spreading the inevitable bad stuff in amongst good wins/good form and he started with plenty of goodwill from the support. At the winter break last year his stock was high even if not everyone liked the style of play to put it mildly. I was at Ross County in the midweek game after the break where I think the plot was lost and never found again (Bevis culpable again funnily enough) and he simply never showed the flexibility or imagination to change the script after that - instead opting for the type of scattergun approach that normally heralds the closing chapter of a managers' time at a club. That he survived until now was actually a testament to people's patience. Frustration doesn't normally get a chance to build as long as it did here, so if things were a bit toxic near the end, it's maybe not a surprise.

  16. This will be too long but in fairness it's been ages since a match that enjoyable. The 3-2 pre-pandemic against Falkirk maybe? Since the Hibs game, every goal we've conceded has been an absolute nightmare defensively. There's always going to be an element of "could have done better" when a goal is lost but given that as the away side we'd want to keep it tight early on, we had an absolute stinker. Ball was played back from kick-off by QotS then played forward, Duthie for some reason planted an awful header back behind our backline (you would always play forward at that stage of the game) and P. Grant didn't deal with it at all. The ball was cut-back and Connolly's shot deflected past Parry. Whilst a 4-1 score-line was undeniably a fair reflection on the match, there were two key moments that could have swung it in the opposite direction (one very obvious later on). Shortly after the opener, Queens also found themselves through on goal and although Paton was smart enough to take the ball past Parry (how many strikers has he denied one-on-one since signing?), he was held up enough for McLean to get back and block. After that, we settled down into the pattern of the rest of the half, probably aided by Hendji's withdrawal. He looked injured at half-time but he was absolutely dreadful in the first 10 minutes, he just isn't good enough on the ball for this level. Kennedy the surprise introduction in his place. We were able to press all over the pitch and Grant/Gomis totally dominated the middle of the pitch. QotS clearly didn't have a clue how to deal with a pair of strikers who both dropped in deep to link up the play and we regularly found a ton of space in front of their back four. One real issue for us last season was that despite being a team of slow cloggers we basically didn't score from a set piece the whole campaign. As such, it was remarkable to see us level from a smartly taken corner kick that found McDonald in space inside the box and he planted a first time shot across Currie, who got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out of the net. The rest of the half saw us cut Queens open at will and Duthie missed the target completely with only Currie to beat. Cunningham had a couple of chances, Cuddihy a shot saved. In amongst all of that we scored a second goal from a quick counter attack, Duthie skipping past the full-back and sending over a cross that found Cunningham with an empty goal to finish into. One benefit of the five subs rule (which I hate) is that we can go at it full pelt for an hour then bring some bodies on to freshen things up. There's no doubt that as the match progressed, the fresher Roberts, Allan and Scullion played a key part in keeping us up the pitch. In truth, I couldn't see QotS scoring but they got a penalty kick for a barge in the back of one of their players, possibly from Duthie? It looked a spot-kick to me but Parry pulled off a good save down to his right. It's game one but in the context of the season, that could be a massive moment. That started a crazy few minutes and we scored a lovely third goal with Duthie/Cunningham linking up to set Allan free for a wee mazy run across the edge of the box, before he placed a shot past Currie. A good thing he did, as he probably should have moved the ball onto Scullion who was initially in a better position. Duthie was then brought down by an awful tackle from Connolly; I'd need to see a replay to see how bad the tackle was itself but the intent was clear. He can't have any complaints. The referee, who had a shocker in the Morton cup game, had a decent game today. The game was dead but we added a fourth when Grant's devilish free-kick was headed into the net by Cameron (who had been brought on for Duthie out of respect for the tortured QotS right back); another set piece goal! Queen of the South were absolutely dreadful. I don't think I'll ever be convinced that Max is better than Blair. He was lucky to get away with a blatant shove into the face of Duthie; the referee could easily have given a penalty. Watching him sprint down the tunnel at the end was absolutely amazing. I thought Queens best player was probably Gibson but I also thought we played around him as the sitting midfielder easily. Clyde's players showed a lot of energy and played some excellent football. The difference from last season is staggering. All of that is built around a strong base given by Parry, the centre halves and Gomis/Grant. After enduring Rumsby for so many years, it makes such a difference having two centre halves that win their headers and don't get caught on their heels when balls comes into the box. McLean has been a tremendous addition so far, you can tell he is organising the entire team. Gomis, in my opinion, was our best player in the cup matches and he was sensational in the first half, no doubt helped by having better footballers around him. Duthie ultimately had a great game but he can also be incredibly frustrating at times; his miss in the first half was awful. It absolutely boggles the mind that we ever played Cunningham out wide as his ability to find wee pockets of space centrally is tremendous. Plenty of positives amongst the rest, but I think it's only fair to highlight Kennedy's performance at left-back. He was physical, aggressive in the challenge and used the ball well. Basically the same as his team-mates.

  20. The idea that it would be a good thing for us to lose our manager now is fucking mental. Especially after backing him to bring his own players in and then handing the reins over to someone new who may not get a tune from someone else's group. Just 4 months ago, the current manager was commenting how difficult it was with another managers side to bed them into the way he wants to play. So it strikes me as mad that more than a handful of supporters would be quite happy to roll that dice again so close to the season starting. Absolutely mental. At least let's get the first round of games played and see where we stand then.

  21. I can fully see us being appealing to Stephen Robinson. Bigger club. More money flowing than he got last time. Familiar. Basically the only place he's succeeded. Why we'd fancy Stephen Robinson at this point however, is a bit beyond me.

  22. The top 5 or 6 in the league will be tightly packed and I'd include both us and Montrose in that group. They're well coached and organised and have good experienced heads through the spine of their side. They finished miles ahead of last season and beat us 3-0 with ease at TFS in the final quarter. They've had minimal turnover and added a quality striker in MacAllister and today was very evenly matched rather than the procession we saw against them last season under that goofball Rennie. We're still short of about 4 players in terms of being favourites to win the league but we will be top 4 due to improved defence, organisation and a proper leader in McGinn in the middle of the park. At a bare minimum we need more creativity in midfield. Kennedy should help with that when he's back fit but still feel we'll need more on top of that. Nesbitt is all style over substance for me, some nice touches but his end product is abysmal. Morrison is hugely frustrating. Much improved from the shambles of the last 18 months or so but still a lot of room to improve. Tough game next week but interesting to see how we compete. I'd also say Clyde never laid a glove on us last week and they've horsed QoS today.

  27. I’ll post properly when I’m home and not waiting for my Chinese. Anyway, the incident happened right in front of me and trust me, NO player was debating the red card, they were stopping the Dumbarton players ripping Clark’s face off because it was a total shocker. Can’t say I heard every word, but I definitely heard a lot of Stirling players agreeing it was a shocker and a poor decision from Clark, what the 2 Captains were booked for I have no idea, in the end it was McLean and Buchanan that calmed the situation down. That was a complete ‘heads gone’ moment by Clark, I’ve got no idea what he was think of, no doubt it’s one of those things he’ll regret straight away, but it was a shocker and totally needless. Clark is a player I never noticed at Annan but I have been impressed in the games I have watched him in for Stirling so far, but that’s a side to him we haven’t seen until today, I really hope it was a one off and I really hope Lynas is ok, it seemed to be his leg that was the problem before walking off.

  28. Clyde were absolutely outstanding today. Their pressing from the go, passing and confidence on the ball was excellent. If we face a team that presses us as well as that this season I'll be impressed. If Clyde had a decent finisher that could have been a lot worse today. They got into some really good positions in the first half but squandered them. Take absolutely nothing away from how well they played in the following Heads Gone. After the Annan game I thought there was a huge overreaction from some of our support. But that today is absolutely inexcusable. I'd love to hear from anyone who thought that was nothing but a complete fucking shitshow from us. Other than a 20 second spell in the first half that was truly pathetic. Against a side tipped for the drop we were totally outclassed, out thought and outfought. How fucking stupid do you have to be to hoof high balls to a timy striker against giant CB? Wtf was that all about? McGrory was a loss but we were shit even with him on the park so it's no excuse. Absolutely no pass marks from anyone today and I can't even be bothered dissecting the goals. Special mention to Connolly being a complete fanny and instantly weakening us next week. Every one of them should hang their heads in shame after that performance. I'm not even arsed by the scoreline. It could have finished 1-2 or 2-2 and I'd have been equally furious tbh.

  34. Absolutely zero chance Robinson would be getting talked about by anybody if we hadn't taken him from Morecambe. The main two reasons the rumour is perpetuating are 1) because our fans are split on him. The ones who want him to stay are twitchy because we lost Goodwin to Aberdeen. Those who want him out the door are talking about it because they hope he'll go. Either way, the rumour isn't getting binned as quickly as it ought to be. And 2), the game on Sunday and media looking to add spice to an otherwise uninspiring fixture. Remove those two factors and he wouldn't even be getting a mention.

  35. Let’s be honest. The bigot brothers could each field a team filled with their bench warmers and academy teams and still achieve 1st and 2nd spot given the financial gulf over the rest of the clubs in Scotland. That’s what’s wrong with our game.

  37. Heard the reasoning behind Cleary leaving tonight. Cleary is just doing what's right for his young family and the club haven't been stitched up or anything like that. Cleary wasn't aware of the issue until recently. For those who think the club should have looked for a fee. They possibly could have done but for the nominal fee they'd end up getting for me, it was the right thing to do. The loan move that was mentioned probably isn't a goer as the issue isn't just going to go away. It fits well with the "family club" and if Cleary is ever asked by another player in Ireland about a potential move to Saints, it'll paint the club in a good light. The club have put the player and family first and ahead of financial gain. In the modern era of football that's not often the case anymore! edit: the good news: No one is dying or has cancer or anything like that.

  38. Chesham United 4-2 Wycombe Wanderers A long weekend down south for me and I started on the very edge of the tube map, which is actually well outside Greater London. A lovely town which is well worth visiting in itself. A very friendly club, I had loads of good chats with locals, and a lovely ground with a good backdrop.
