  5. Lots of good ideas on here. On memberships, we’re currently on about 460 individuals contributing nearly £5.5k a month averaged. That’s just shy of 20% higher than pledged in our survey last year, but about half of the number who pledged for Back the Bairns four years ago (albeit under a different proposition). We are trying to keep pushing memberships up, and have had a good boost since McGlynn was appointed. Incidentally, the most successful membership day was when the ex DoF left the club, and we tend to see spikes in membership linked to good news stories and good form. By now, every Falkirk fan must know that we exist and what we’re trying to achieve. We kept the offer basic so as to make sure we were being honest with fans, rather than add a load of bells and whistles where the core message gets lost. But all these ideas are helpful. I’m less sure about the lower entry level as any boost might simply be offset by people choosing to lower contributions. But that’ll be looked at when we review membership policy later this year. On one point - the board has been mega-supportive. They wrote to all ST holders recently promoting membership, included info in the ST packs, helped us get McGlynn for the event next week, and many other things. So we need to mend the roof while the sun is shining! We’d obviously welcome offers of help. Nobody new stood for election to the committee this year. We don’t want fans to become frustrated at us being unable to action their ideas, but equally we all work too.

  6. The UK unemployment rate is at its lowest level in about 50 years. How low does Braveman expect it to realistically get? In reality the country can’t be a kick in the arse off full employment. Welfare budgets continue to rise because people can’t afford to live on the pishy wages that they’re given, or because families lose money by paying for extortionate childcare while at work, so they need to be part-time. And the government have chosen to top up the wages of these people via Universal Credit. This government time and time again prefer to use taxpayers money to pay for the failure of business. Rather than telling the energy companies to f**k off with their record profits, they subsidise bills via the taxpayer. Rather than mandate a proper minimum wage, they subsidise wages via the taxpayer. Rather than impose rent controls, they subsidise rent via the taxpayer. These are choices. For a cabinet member to get away with spouting that drivel is outrageous, but obviously not surprising.

  7. It’s honestly been a long, long time, since I’ve been so excited watching a Falkirk team play. Not getting ahead of things but I think a promotion and cup double is on the cards here.

  8. I've never been too much of a fan of Alexander, but I feel he's got a very difficult task this season. There's every chance we could improve as a team, but end up 8th or 9th. Getting into the Top 6 looks a big ask. It might be in the cup competitions where GA earns a bit of appreciation from the fans. Taking away the Glasgow two, Hearts don't look any worse off and should be comfortably in the top four again. Dundee Utd were fairly poor last season in 4th but have done some excellent transfer business and, for my money, have now got a far better manager. I don't see them shifting too much. Hibs have a new manager in and have brought a fair few in. Aberdeen are chucking money about and look likely to spend in excess of £1.5m in transfer fees. It's never a guarantee but you'd assume they'll be back up there. Realistically, Celtic/Rangers/Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen/Dundee Utd should be the Top 6. Where we have been good at in recent years is taking advantage of when one or more of them make an arse of things. We've had more than our fair share of Top 6 finishes in the split era, but I'm struggling to see any of those clubs falling short this season. Our targets for this year? I don't think the Top 6 is the be all and end all for us, albeit it would be nice to be there or thereabouts. A cup run would see some goodwill back into this side. Don't make a c**t of it in Europe. Get through the 2nd Round, and see who we get next. If we get papped out against a much superior side, so be it, but hopefully have a go in doing so. I would like us to look like a proper team again. It's GA's team now, it needs to look like it. A settled side (where possible) is a must, and it would be nice for a change to give Rangers/Celtic a competitive game when they come to Fir Park. Been far too many scuddings lately for my liking.

  19. Under Cones or Rennie we'd have been scudded 4/5-0 and they'd have scratched their head and said shite like "I thought we passed the ball about well" "room for optimism" etc. McGlynn might not be as comfortable in front of a camera but by f**k it just shows you the massive difference actually having someone who can set up a team makes. I'm also confident that he won't let the players get too ahead of themselves as fans should try similar - hiccups and bad results will still come along the way and there is still major work to do be done on the squad. But for the first time in about 4 or 5 years, we've got a guy who knows what he is doing.

  33. I don't think monies got anything to do with it, hardest position on the park to find is a goalscorer. Mind Holt went through 14 before landing on Wilson & Ompreon.

  34. I think it's great that Scottish players are broadening their footballing horizons again. For too long, the lower leagues in England was "the goal". Good on him (and Hickey, Henderson, Doig). As we see with Hickey, it can lead to genuinely life changing moves down the line.

  35. I'd rather the club was ran correctly by people who will be here whether we're in the seaside leagues or champions league than shoot up to the Premiership in two seasons with a rich owner who at any moment could pull the plug. I get what you are saying I'd rather the club was here for the next 100 years than have a shot at glory for a couple seasons.

  36. I had a really enjoyable drive this morning, sticking to the 20 limit in front of people with patience disorders. A bmw then a Range Rover (white, naturally) 2ft from my bumper, swerving like they want to overtake and gesticulating frantically. I'm not sure why they're so desperate to get to the next traffic light queue four seconds earlier, but their inability to function normally really entertains me. I think i'll experiment with 18mph next.

  45. She typifies the one virtue that Conservatives genuinely value. An absolutely ruthless pursuit of power unencumbered by any particular ideology. She's been a Liberal, a one nation tory, a remainer, and is now indistinguishable from the ERG and the frothing right wing that she's turning tricks for to get a shot at the big dogs big job. A shameless, moral and intellectual blank hard drive that would sell her family, and her country for one more notch up the greasy pole.
