  2. This statement keeps being trotted out and it’s just bizarre. What do you expect to hear? “We tried to sign the big lad but he decided to go to Partick, then we went for that wee quick guy but he wanted £700 a week and we could only offer £500. Now nobody else wants to talk to us because they know they are, at best, our third choice”. No club ever has, or ever will publicly discuss signing targets before they are signed so I’m really not sure where the complaints about ‘deafening silence’ come from or what else they expect. When you read transfer rumours in the press it’s all from the big clubs and it’ll either be made up or leaked from an agent who has an agenda to push up the price of their client. The media isn’t interested in our level of football so that’s not going to happen. Murray has said in interviews that he knows where we need to strengthen. That’s as much as can be said.

  3. Not for me. I've been watching him for around a year and in my (admitttedly inexpert) opinion he's a cracking player. He's easily the pick of the bunch that Ian Fergus signed and has as much potential at his age that Kingsley and Fulton had. Seriously. An There's no guarantees of course. He might not develop as expected, he might not apply himself, he might be unlucky with injuries. Young players are always a gamble. One poster on here who has football connections messaged me some time back to ask about him, saying that all the big clubs were keeping an eye on him. I found out that was true at one game when a guy asked me for teamlines and it turned out he was a Man Utd scout there to see Carroll. I rate the guy very highly and would have been raging if we hadn't signed him. Now he has his chance and it's up to him to prove he's worth it.

  4. These issues could easily be solved to some extent by allowing a limited number of trialists in the group stages of the league cup. It's absolute madness that this hasn't been changed yet. The group stages were brought in to provide a competitive replacement for friendlies and yet you can't play players you're looking at signing. Typical of the clowns that run our game.

  7. Tbf most of us couldn’t give a flying f**k about old board/new board any more. We just want a group of boys on the pitch who’ll show a bit of commitment and fight for the jersey which will mean we can enjoy our Saturday’s a bit more again.

  8. I see that Peterhead are crying out for players - maybe we could come to some sort of arrangement and loan them McKay, Ross, Wilson, Sneddon and Hetherington. Of course, as when every club loans a player to another club playing in the same league the loans must come with a caveat- in our case, we have to insist that Peterhead MUST play them against us!

  11. I really have to laugh at those heaping scorn on Sturgeon for declaring last week that the SNP will fight the next GE on the basis of an independence mandate. Starmer's speech is just further evidence that the dominant issue in contemporary UK politics is not maintaining the Union but how best to appeal to and pacify aggressive English nationalism. And I have no confidence that would alter were Labour to form a Government.

  14. Falkirk lacked a whole host of things last season, and one of them - in every single area of the pitch - was presence. Right through the spine of the team, we were far too lightweight, no dig, no energy, no effing heart. Sounds like Ugwu would at least be competitive, and that would be a welcome - and long overdue - change.

  15. Some of us don’t know anyone on the new board. That means we remain completely open minded re what they do right and wrong rather than blinkered into believing that they should be immune from criticism. Just like the incompetents that went before them they will get both barrels when they do wrong. It’s got NOTHING to do with having a vandetta in most cases such as myself on here….

  22. OMG I feel ancient. Yeats looks about 12. Happy he's signed up though, fingers crossed he can build on his Killie showing against the rest of L1. Not going to be the dominant physical presence we need though, so needs plenty support - on the pitch, and from the stands.. Good luck to the lad.

  25. By "whole country" he means England of course. You don't have to be a political scientist to know that this persistent rhetoric from UK Labour is just to appeal to the English heartlands. "Scottish Labour" are just an irrelevant branch office filled with "messenger boys" on their behalf. It's time for them to cut ties with UK Labour officially and finally grow a spine and speak for themselves. Anas Sarwar and Jackie Baillie come across as wishful bootlickers and next in line to join in the footsteps of George Foulkes, Jack McConnell and Baroness Ruth.

  29. When carpetmonster Jr was born we had *really* good insurance. We paid a $1000 co-pay and that was us. Got sent a copy of the facsimile bill the hospital had sent to the insurance company, for our own records. Totals out at $32.5k. Various line items, with line item 4 being anaesthesia - my wife didn't have any. They don't do gas and air there, it's an epidural or nothing and the Mrs did the whole thing with hypnobirthing and breathing because she's fucking mental. I phone the insurance company to tell them they need to go back to the hospital for a new bill. Lady explains I've paid my co-pay and I'm not on the hook for anything else. I tell her I know that but that the hospital are trying to bill them for something that didn't happen. She reassures me that they've got it all covered. I lose patience and tell her slowly and calmly no anaesthesia was administered, and she needs to go back to the hospital to tell them to stick their bill up their arse (and I did actually say that) and get a new one. She says 'Oh! Oh, thanks for telling us!' and seems really surprised that I've bothered to phone it in. Next week another facsimile bill appears in the mail with the anaesthesia removed and a new bargain basement price of only $26k. It's a fucking cartel. ETA - globally there are half a million medical-expenses related bankruptcies every year. All of them are in the US.

  30. Turning into a bit of an obsession of mine but with Starmer about to make a speech saying Labour won't seek to rejoin the Single Market but will seek to "Make Brexit Work" another ToryLite policy you've got to repeat the opening question - what is the point of Labour?

  33. Ugwu would be an excellent signing for this level. I was a little miffed we didn't keep him last season and with hindsight we should've kept him as his replacement, Ethon Varian, was severely lacking in the goal department. Ugwu's key limitation is that he is slow. He has very good technique and control, and is an absolute unit of a man. Very difficult for CBs to deal with as he is stronger than them. Unfortunately this does mean he is liable to concede an annoying number of fouls, although often I felt the fouls given against him were unfair, and that he'd merely outmuscled the defender and hadn't done anything wrong.

  39. Don't know when we'll be independent but with Starmer now stating he's on board with a hard Brexit and Sarwar's latest attempt to outdo Gordon Brown, we're pretty much on our own anyway. Might as well just go for the full independence and really go our own way.

  44. Neil Mooney. Here's another from the same game. He was playing for Svendborg at the time. Slightly less glamorous, here he is playing for Ardrossan Winton Rovers against Kilbirnie Ladeside in a Junior Cup tie in the early 70s. Apparently, this was the first match I ever attended (but as I was around 2 years old I have no memory of it).

  45. Brilliant work from Keith. On Brexit, on crime, on immigration, and on the most basic democratic principle Labour are having their policies dictated by Conservative party headquarters. The most damning, and fairest criticism of the Tories last 12 years in government is their utterly ruthless pursuit of what is narrowly politically expedient for them to stay in power and hang the consequences. You can now very easily make the same accusation of those half-tory wankers in what used to the Labour party too. Of course this is outrageous and f**k them for having the chutzpah and absolute contempt for Scotland to take these positions but, no clearer argument for independence can be made than "f**k how you vote, and how you have voted multiple times in consecutive elections for almost a decade, winning votes in England is far far more important than that." Fabulous work from the cardboard cut out turncoat torylite c**t.
