  2. Don't really know why someone would go somewhere with so much negative history and energy. A bit ghoulish IMO. The 9/11 museum sounds good though.

  5. Very talented player. Needs to be played in an attacking midfield role to get the best out of him and would do well in a team that can win the ball in midfield for him as he's not the most robust. He's not a shitebag though although that part of his game is not as good as his creative side. I would liked to have seen him re-signed for us.

  6. The last three years have been shite for a variety of reasons, but this is the first season I've been back watching the Wasps in person since the 7th of March 2020, and I didn't realise how much I've missed it. My mother's still alive to come with me and, shockingly, we've been joined by my son, who isn't at all interested in football but seems to be enjoying the excuse for some family time. Superb. Also, I just got an email from a buyer on eBay explaining how happy they are with the item they bought, and that it was something that they'd been looking to get for a long time. It doesn't happen often - an email from a buyer is normally bad news - but it's lovely when it does.

  7. Every single year there is a massive overreaction to pre season. Results and performances are completely irrelevant. As had been said, there are countless examples of bad pre seasons which have produced good seasons and vice versa. There is a reason we are playing pre season games and it is because we are not ready to play competitive games, we need fitness and sharpness to get to the level required for the real stuff so how can you possibly judge anyone when they are playing their first games after 2 months and getting rid of the rust. If they were at their best already we’d just have went straight into the League Cup games. Furthermore, we have a brand new manager experimenting with different players and formations, I can guarantee we will not see that back 4 from yesterday start a league game this season. Aside from players getting up to speed, we still have at least once centre back and striker to come into the starting line up. The manager could easily go out and fill those positions today but if the quality available just now is not right, what is the point? Those signings will define our season. Like everyone else, I would love is we signed them this week but if we have to wait till the first league game to get the quality required then so be it. Nobody else in the league has made any signings I’d be jealous of in the last week or so, we’re all in the same boat. The League Cup offers good money for a club at our level and we should be looking to progress given the draw but even that is really an extension of pre season. Look at Dunfermline last season, cruised through their group and then had a disaster of a season. Or Inverness, they a shocker under their new manager last season being beat at home to Stirling and comfortably by Cove. Billy Dodds saying he hadn’t had a chance to work with the defence yet which I’m sure triggered a few alarm bells. They then started the season with 5 clean sheets in a row and had a really good season. I’m not sure people appreciate what a change it is with a new manager and it will take time for him to find the right formula, the fact people are raising concerns already after effectively 2 pre season games is absolutely fucking wild.

  8. Although I can’t stand Rangers, I had a lot of time for Andy Goram. He was a brilliant keeper, a talented cricketer (a sport at which he also represented Scotland), and a real character, and took the ‘there’s only two Andy Gorams’ (and similar) shouts with good humour. I remember when Queens beat Brechin in the final of the Challenge Cup in Oct 2002, I was on my way home from the game, when my mobile rang. I didn’t recognise the number, and when I answered it it was the man himself, clearly in the dressing room or at the back of the team bus with a few cold refreshments at hand, saying ‘…… mate, we’ve won the bloody cup!’ By way of explanation, I was friendly with a member of the Queens’ backroom team at the time, even though I’d never met Goram himself. He seemed genuinely just as delighted as he would doubtless have been whenever he won a trophy with Rangers, which in itself is a testament to the man. R.I.P. Andy Goram.

  10. Neil Mooney. Here's another from the same game. He was playing for Svendborg at the time. Slightly less glamorous, here he is playing for Ardrossan Winton Rovers against Kilbirnie Ladeside in a Junior Cup tie in the early 70s. Apparently, this was the first match I ever attended (but as I was around 2 years old I have no memory of it).

  12. As for a guarantee. The financial agencies that regulate countries credit ratings were quoted as saying in 2014; Scotland would have triple A status and be around the seventh wealthiest nation in the world, even excluding oil and gas, it would still be a very prosperous. Which makes you think, where has it all that gone? I seriously doubt since 1707 we've be getting our fair share. We are only nation on this planet to discover oil and become poorer as a result. A thought to ponder. The truth of the matter is Scotland is the "Golden goose that lays the golden egg" and Westminster knows it only too well. That's the only reason that matters to them. I have many English friends and family and have no anti English sentiment. What I do have a massive issue with is the level of corruption within Wesminster and more so the Tories. Its a turbo charged unadulterated industrial asset stripping of the public purse and sector for their own gain and their cohorts. Morals are through the floor, its scandal after scandal. Lie after lie. Capitalism has lost its moral compass, devoid of ethics. Boris lobbying to remove cap on bankers income, just as everyone else has been told "don't ask for wage rises as you will affect inflation" These are the same bankers that started this shitshow in 2008 and didn't receive any charges or censure for it. Ten years of austerity followed. Covid didn't help and now the uber pumping of your pocket that begun this year, through fuel charges, energy charges and all that followed as a domino effect I have my gripes with SNP; Ferries, turbines, education, etc. But, compared with the uber corrupt shitshow at Westminster, it will always be a YES for me. Better to try another way for eventual betterment of all, than remain stuck in a perpetual f**k up. Saying "oh well at least it's our f**k up and it's better to stick than twist". Is a very poor defence.

I can only see further erosions of women's rights, gay rights and generally horrendous extreme right wing policy. Multiply all that by 100 if Trump gets back in.

  23. I think the purpose of this thread by the person who started it was for people to have the opportunity to leave their condolences, show their respect and share their memories of Andy Goram. If people have a different view, I’d suggest not posting on this thread. Point scoring is not appropriate.

  32. With the competitive stuff coming up It'll be interesting to see if McGlynn brings in one or two this week, and hopefully lets a few go out. One thing I will say if it is Ugwu that is signed and deployed as a lone striker he's going to need a helluva lot of others chipping in with goals and assists. That sadly is glaringly lacking in this side unless it's addressed before the league season starts.

  33. It’s very à la mode to espouse how terrible the world is but it’s quite a blinkered view. I’m sure most Americans cringe at the thought of these right wing nuts being how the outside world views Americans just as most of us cringe at our gammony hooray Henry “leaders”. Look at the music, films, TV, books, fashion, science to have come out of America in the last 50 years or so. Astonishing talent. Like most of the world, its political system is due an overhaul.

  36. In my case my prostate cancer when diagnosed was at stage four, an exceptionally high PSA score of 145, and it had spread to my bones and lymph nodes. The average life expectancy for stage four was 5 years, but given the PSA score and spread the indications I got were that it would be a lot shorter in my case, although they didn't spell it out. I think the they said that chemo could on average extend my life expectancy by 3 months, and given the horror stories I'd heard about the effects of chemo, constant vomiting etc, I thought what's the point. I wasn't bothered about going bald as I was getting there already. Anyway I changed my mind, went for it and the chemo turned out to be a breeze. Combined with hormone treatment my PSA score went down to below 1 within about 6 months and it's pretty well stayed below 0.3 ever since. I was first diagnosed on the eve of Covid, and the only serious discomfort I've felt was a sausage fingered nurse sticking some cutting tool up my arse to take a sample of of the tumour right at the start. All I'm saying is that sometimes chemo isn't a big ordeal, and can be more effective sometimes than the predictive average.

  37. Regarding Andy Goram and his decision not to take chemo because of what a bad time his Mother had on it, every case is different. I'm not trying to say he made the wrong decision, but people shouldn't decide on the basis of one case they know about. There are a multitude of cancers types and stages, and different chemo drugs to treat them. When I was told the average increase in life expectancy I might get from chemo I was tempted to say no, I didn't and it turned out the side effects were pretty mild and the effectiveness combined with other treatment was stonkingly good. The average contains ranges from near instant death to a full life term, so if anyone gets bad news, think about it properly before turning chemo down.

Fair play to Morton today our overwhelming deficiencies up front showed up and cost us dearly.Morton were the hungrier team and deserved the win.Its early days for us and hopefully we get this out of our system and quick. Imrie has got a decent team there and I'll look out for yous in the coming season.Lets see if you can defy the odds like I hope we can,again..
