  1. I voted Yes in 2014 not because I'm a nationalist or a patriot by any means but because I thought - in the long run - it'd be better than what we had. Next time the issue will be the opposite - I'll be voting Yes again, not because I think it'd be better than the status quo but because it can't surely not be any worse. I can understand why some people who are politically similar to me voted No. I can understand that some people felt it was a big risk and despite being open to it just couldn't quite be won over. The ambiquity of our EU membership didn't help and the currency stuff were a mess. The currency union proposal wasn't that bad an idea but explanation of it was awful. Another reason I can understand are the people who said words to the essence of "We understand the changes and aspirations of Yes but we want to see them on a British scale." I got that. It wasn't enough to shift me to No, but I got the thinking behind it. That seems so unobtainable now. Labour offered real change on a British scale under Corbyn and it got smashed - there's just no appetite for that type of change in England which seems to only be interested in becoming more right wing, more insular and a lot more nasty. Even look at the Cameron government in September 2014 - it's probably not far from where Starmer is now. That's the only alternative now. In 2014, some said that a Yes vote was a jump in the dark and looking back it was to some degree. Today a No vote is also a jump in the dark...into a ravine! The UK isn't just a sad, lonely and bitter place it's somewhere that revels in that sad, lonely, bitterness and wants to get sadder, lonelier and even more bitter. It'll be a Yes from me.

  2. Two season tickets bought after a year away. Pledged I wouldn’t go back when Deans and Holt were still at the club. Not going to pretend like everything is perfect but we’ve got a new board, a proper football manager who knows what he’s doing and fans unbelievably sticking by the club in unreal numbers. COYB xxx

  5. I notice in today's Courier Wullie Gibson said he had another talk with Josh Rae after his other deal (with Carlisle?) fell through. Josh apparently wanted guarantee of regular starts but as Queens had already signed Max Currie, Wullie said he couldn't guarantee that and he'd need to compete for first choice. Obviously Josh didn't fancy that and got a suitable offer from Airdrie, good luck to him anyway. Wullie said every player must earn their starting place. Wullie also hinted that Fitzpatrick re-signing is not completely dead and buried although Partick are obvious faavourites for him but he is leaving negotiations between the clubs over compo to those upstairs. . He also said that, although he wouldn't rule it out if the right players are available, he hoped not to rely on the loan market this season. He wants to run with a squad of 20 plus some of the youngsters and is still hoping to sign a midfielder and striker. Wullie showing that it's not too hard to keep fans reasonably informed of you want to.

  7. Hate to break it to you mate, but Div isn't actually any sort of authority on these subjects. He is simply running his site as he sees fit, to try and keep something of a lid on the utterly relentless whining and tit for tat shite going his way from arse cheek fans.

  9. a couple of weeks ago I was collecting a few pallets out of a place in an industrial estate and I heard a bit of commotion outside the truck. I looked down and the magpies had a little green parakeet pinned down. I chased them off and gathered him up. They had pulled his tail feathers off and he was terrified.he wouldn't have lasted much longer. He had escaped from a bird shop in the estate but the owner only returned my call when I was 30 miles away. He sounded like a dick so I sent him a message later saying I was fond of the bird and wanted to keep it so he said go ahead. Now we are best pals. His tail feathers are growing back already.

  11. Really interested to see how Baccus does for you guys. I got weirdly into the A-League for a while a few seasons ago and he was always a stand out any time I watched WSW. He seemed to be very highly thought of down under. I’m by no means an expert on the A-League but I was pretty surprised when I saw he was on his way to Paisley, think it could turn out to be a bit of a coup.

  18. Our recent injury woes - Spencer again and Matthews - make me wonder again about something someone said earlier. If Spencer's injury is described by Murray as something which should probably have been looked at earlier, and Matthews needed surgery on a problem which was bothering him last season and no-one got to the bottom of, it arguably points a finger at our management of injury and recovery under McGlynn's reign. That in itself points toward training intensity, frequency etc, and I just wonder if some of our notorious bad luck wasn't at least in part, self inflicted. Be interesting to see how we fare this season, and how Falkirk compare.

  22. We've learned though based on the minutes signings have played, Davidson doesn't like the alternative options/doesn't trust the method used to find alternative options. Ambrose straight into the team, Mahon watching for months as example. He likes ones he can "trust". Known names. While we're signing players his way we're unlikely to pick up someone on the cheap and sell for profit.

  23. I could explain my thinking (again) but you're quite clearly in the type of mood where you'd take my reply and twist it into a slanging match, and frankly I can't be arsed with that these days.

  24. A Third Lanark programme from season 1960/61, which was the apogee of Thirds' post war league seasons, they finished third, scoring 100 goals and conceding 80, some entertainment for Thirds' fans, over 5 goals per game. This is a League Cup sectional match against Rangers, which Third Lanark won 2-1, although Rangers qualified from the section and went on to win the League Cup, beating Kilmarnock 2-0 in the final. The League Cup was a bit of a goldmine for Thirds, the other teams were Partick Thistle and Celtic, so minimal travelling expenses and huge crowds, 50/50 split after expenses in those days, 149,000 in total. I've no idea what the admission charges were back then, and you would have to deduct season ticket holders, but would you be looking at getting roughly £6,000.00 +? The score and the team changes have been helpfully filled in, 2-1 to Thirds, Jocky Robertson in goals for Thirds, John McCormick and Willie Cunningham in the half back line, forwards Goodfellow, Hilley, Harley, Gray and McInnes - some firepower there. Rangers had Ritchie in goals, Eric Caldow at right back (put through his own net), Davies and Stevenson in the half back line, Scott, Baxter, Miller, Brand and Wilson up front. I sometimes wonder what would have happened at Cathkin had William Hiddleston not got back in and George Young had remained as manager. The following year Third Lanark won the Glasgow Cup and 4 years later it was all over.

  26. Some old Cowdenbeath photos from times gone by. Legendary Cowden physio Davie Stewart (in post 1930-53) working on Cowden's goalkeeper of the day. Weirdly the composition of this photo really reminds me of the famous Rembrandt painting, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Tulp, although the Cowden keeper is (presumably) still alive. Also a famous miscreant from that era: Jim "Hooky" Leonard, immortalised in Ron Ferguson's books on the club: Central Park in 1932 : The Cowden side that finished rock bottom of the old first division in 1971, six points adrift of St. Mirren, and the Pars, who survived on gaol difference that year: 20 years later, in 1989/90 John Brownlie's team in a remarkably minimalist strip finished midtable, narrowly missed out behind Montrose the following season, and finally went up in 1992. They were a top side full of characters. (TRIANCO are a domestic boiler company who I think still exist). Extended highlights from Killie making heavy weather of Cowden at Rugby Park in May 1990- Killie were promoted that day, and Cowden ended up 7th. Finally, one of my favourite Scottish football photos which for me captures much of the spirit of the lower leagues. The Pars visit Central Park during 2015/16 in front of a big crowd. Hope Cowden can turn themselves around and that there'll be one more of these West Fife derbies in future.

  34. The idea that JK Rowling, who is rich beyond her wildest dreams and has influence that nobody here could ever imagine, can be “cancelled” is fucking hilarious to be honest. What she’s feeling is people standing up to her for her views. Getting shredded online isn’t getting cancelled. Just log off and spend your vast fortune on something. Cancel culture is when someone actually suffers as a result of holding or expressing views/opinions. A good example would be someone getting sacked for something they post on Twitter. Or someone downvoting one of my posts.

  39. There are a small number of people who don't feel a connection with the gender they're assigned with at birth. What they do about that is up to them, and it's absurd that people are suddenly getting so concerned about such a rare thing that's occurred for millennia. Why are you bothered about it, for instance? Do you have a friend who's trying to work their way through it? Your question is like the gotcha ones politicians get these days, "Does a woman have a vagina, yes or no?". They usually rightfully answer that it's not as simple as that, and get castigated by the twitter hysterics.

  40. If we are all having a moan about moderating inconsistency it was weird that a warning post went up on a sub-forum about name calling where I assume 90% of folk are, if not fully on the wind up, knowing exaggerations of themselves. Everyone in that sub-forum has bought into the game. At the same time minimising or condoning of rape seemed to be legitimate and accepatble points of view in the marketplace of ideas at the time as is transphobia currently.
