  4. The reaction by some on here is hysterical nonsense. Far a start, we are only 2 players (left-back and centre midfielder) away from having the best starting 11 we've had in years: Rae, Ballantyne, Watson, Fordyce, LB, McCabe, CM, Frizzell, Smith, Gallagher, McGill. Clearly you need a squad but as a starting 11 I'd be very happy with that if we can get those last 2 positions sorted. The Hamilton game was largely a bunch of trialists, the majority of whom will not sign, and there may be a couple of decent players in there to add to the squad. If we're in the same position when the competitive games start then I'd be a bit more concerned. Calling things a 'shambles' over a pre-season kickabout is ridiculous.

  5. The Yes side warned of the risk to our place in the EU in the UK, the No side denied it and made it a central plank of their campaign. This doesn't negate the EU argument for a referendum it cements it. You don't hold against the losing side the claims they made which turned out to be true when they show the winning side to have been wrong. That's totally upside down, back to front, inside out and bollocks.

  6. It's amazing how many fans of clubs in the Championship and League One think their board can 'stretch the budget to get one of 2 new faces in'. It doesn't work like that. Managers get their budget and that's it. If they spunk it on shite like you have the last 3/4 years, or Dunfermline last year, then it's tough luck. Our fans are guilty of it to, do these fans think the chairmen is holding money back from the manager? They're given what the club can afford. In fact, the term 'stretch the budget' should be banned on this website. It does my cunt in.

  7. Again, for zillionth time, it's a weird sort of democracy that enshrines something the losing side said and no current government cam bind the hands of a future one. APART FROM IN THIS ONE SINGLE INSTANCE BECAUSE REASONS The once in a generation argument is fucking desperate and indicative of a lack of testicular fortitude or belief in being able to argue the case for the union. If there was a codified interval, fine. But there isn't so there's no basis to put any weight on this issue. I'm any case 9 years is a perfectly reasonable number, they've been 3 UK general elections, 3 PMs (probably will be 4) 2 Scottish elections and 2 fundamental rewritings of the devolved settlement, one without consent and there will be a 3rd before October 23. A generation, several in my opinion, has passed. There is a cast iron mandate, confirmed multiple times and it does supporters of the Union no favours to pretend otherwise. It would probably be a better idea to start putting together your arguments for the Union and put away the specious offensive dribbley pish about Scotland having the right to self determination is "Above its station."

  8. The ONLY way to do this is to up the club's income and reduce expenditure. We are facing at least, at best, a £400,000 deficit. This means that the signings are going to be 1 or possibly two contracted players then the rest will be loans. This has been said publicly several times. We need people to sign up for FSS - Morton have 800+, we currently have 430. It is the one way we can immediately increase the income to the club - currently 6K a month more or less. We can get some expenditure down by loaning out players or (miracle) getting some to leave. And we need volunteers at the club to help get income. After that cup runs and people turning up for home games are the the other income generators. The latter will only happen if we start winning games. This is our brutal reality.

  11. I voted Yes in 2014. I will vote Yes in 2023. No offence to anyone, but I can't understand how the f**k anyone can live through the last decade or so and think that independence would be a bad idea. If anything, the case for independence is now much stronger than it was in 2014. If Scotland votes No again, then it deserves everything it fucking gets.

  12. So basically we're basing some daft panic and drawing conclusions on a list of players from a closed doors game and result 1 and a half weeks into preseason training? Just let that sink in a moment.

  16. Things are going to get worse in the UK The Westminster Government is corrupt, They’re becoming more and more extreme. Just look at the US, that is where we are heading, absolutely no doubt about it Even if Labour magically get into power, they won’t roll back the damage the Tories have done or replaced the rights they have removed from us They’ll maintain the status quo until the Tories get back into power again. Tories think food banks are a good thing and people who use them deserve to be poor They hate the poor They hate the disabled They hate human rights They hate the NHS They hate state pensions They hate public service They hate scrutiny. Just look what’s happening with Channel 4 for daring to call them out They've changed their laws on protesting They want to make it harder for people to vote They don’t believe in society People are things to be used They hate people like me and you. It’s that simple This ain’t hyperbolic stuff here. Johnson has just literally lifted the cap on bankers bonuses, while telling us chumps we need to pay more in taxes. Staying in the UK shouldn’t even be a debate, we should be getting shot of these c***s pronto for our own sake.

  18. That's horseshit btw, at least in the sense that there was widespread awareness of any such thing. I seem to recall Ruth Davidson, in the run up to the referendum, going to great pains at one of the televised indyref things to tell people there was no chance that the Tories would win the 2015 GE outright and that therefore there would be NO Brexit vote, far less a Leave result. Some folk might still have watched that and went "well, I don't trust her so it could happen" but to suggest that the population at large went into soothsayer mode and knew "full well" that we might be outvoted on the EU when it wasn't at all certain to the casual voter that there would even BE a vote is purest revisionism. Not least because it was thought around that time that Labour were going to win the 2015 GE (and even that they would win the Scotland-wide part of that vote and THAT didn't happen as many people would have predicted either; unless you're going to tell us that everyone knew there were going to be 56 SNP MPs as well).

  24. Who gives a f**k what a generation is, it isn't in any Indy ref 1 legislation saying Scotland would have to wait a generation if the first one was unsuccessful. It was a stupid soundbite trying to highlight the importance of getting people out voting in the first one that britnats, politicians and the compliant media hold on to like some comfort blanket with a wee let's deny democracy label on it. It's happening so stop the knicker wetting and put the positive case for the Union.

  25. Think it was logical the club didn’t dismantle the work Murray has done. When initially we heard of Raith’s interest I’d guess we had hoped Aggy would take over, before he made it clear he wanted to go with Murray. Then we moved on to Rhys and Dycey. Yes, it’s a gamble but I’m sure if Rhys didn’t feel capable at this point he wouldn’t have put himself forward. If we had appointed a journeyman manager they’d have probably made wholesale changes, plus we would’ve ran the risk of losing dycey and Rhys two of our best players. I have been waiting on an experienced coach being announced to help out Prunty and Hutton whilst Rhys and Dycey concentrate on the playing side has there been any further talk of this? As far as signings go I think we are far more lucrative than in previous years. Last year as we all know and as I’m sure players out with the club will know there was a real buzz about Airdrie and the attendances at the end showed that there is potential there. I’d hope we are aiming a higher than Livingstone in all honesty. Rae and Ballantyne are two exceptional signings and if we can add more of that calibre I don’t think we have much to worry about.

  26. Please remember that some of us can separate politics from what is, after all, only a game. The lickspittle, nauseating, forelock tugging, monarchy-idolising wankerocity that support the same football team as me don't speak for me any more than I'll speak for them. I quite liked the post from someone about singing "you're not British any more!"... Hell, I might even join in.

  30. If Scotland had the balls it would threaten to walk away from everything. rUK would be fucked. Sterling has been massively devalued by Brexit as it is, losing all that Scotland brings to the table from the balance of payments would hammer it again, looking at parity v USD as a minimum. All Westminster has is bluster and a constant willingness to repeatedly punch itself in the face.

  31. Looks like a fight was planned over at KFC. There were police present for a good 30 minutes on Clackmannan Road after the game but it appeared they were just dispersing the crowds and waiting around for parents to pick up the children in question. I was a fair distance from them during the match so it probably didnt impact me as much as perhaps others. The flare after the first goal was hilarious, but it was all growing a bit tedious by the second half, and throwing missiles at the keeper isnt on. I enjoyed the game, and another decent crowd- although a bit bizarre watching an Alloa Stirling game with Alloa in bright orange and Stirling in navy blue. Only a friendly but the fact it was against Stirling gave it a slight edge compared to other pre season games. Not the main aim of pre season of course, but as stated Alloa won comfortably without really getting out of second gear- and it was probably an easier win overall than the Cumbernauld Colts game on the Saturday. Stirling had a mini revival at the start of the second half after pulling a goal back to make it 3-1 but they didnt really make much headway at all. Alloa got the 4th and the game completely petered out as a contest. Great to see Adam King getting a hat-trick. His second goal was exquisite and perhaps even better than his one against Montrose last season. I hope he brings that form into the campaign. Theres a player in there, hes technically pretty sound but need him to impose himself on games a bit more. He did that last night. Scougall again looked terrific and after spending much of last season bizarrely deployed as a winger I have high hopes that he'll be our star player this season. I thought you could see the improvement in midfield fluency, even compared to Saturday. Would have liked to see both our main strikers get off the mark which hasnt happened so far- but still a few more friendlies for them to get going. Not sure about any of the trialists so far- I dont know what the budget situation is but Im guessing we will top up the squad with loans. Im assuming Stanger pretty much signed, so key areas of the squad are obviously a goalkeeper and probably another option up top. Then its fingers crossed some of the more key players dont have bad luck on the injury front.

  33. Of course some of them won't be better. But some of them might. That's the whole point of trialists and playing them in friendlies. To suss that out. I'd be surprised if we sign many, if any, of these players. But you've got to see them in training and games to know if they'll add value. Basing it on actual signings so far, I'm impressed with the upgrades at right back and GK. And I am confident McCabe will continue to upgrade the squad. He's no mug.

  35. Hutton had a stigma, if you will, attached to him when he signed that some fans couldn't let go of but in his last couple of seasons he was miles ahead of Carswell and that was playing with a foot that needed surgery as well if I'm not mistaken.

  38. Had a meeting via Teams yesterday to discuss productivity. Manager goes on about how the team productivity has dropped to "crisis level" while working from home and asks what distractions we have that's stopping us working productively. She's clearly not noticing - or choosing not to notice - one member of the team sat in her living room with Wimbledon on in the background and making no effort to hide it!
