  2. 2022 and folk still buy the work hard and save bullshit. The vast majority of people with money were given it. I reckon the cleaner up at 4am probably works hard too.

  3. I don't understand the logic of saying we shouldn't sign a good player because he used to play for us and the existing squad has bad players in it? Sibbald is a no brainer if he's willing to sign for us. He's been a really good player in a top flight team for years and is the sort who can win you matches. A midfield three of McGinn keeping things ticking over, a younger player going box to box and Sibbald pulling the strings is mouth watering. Not quite on the same level but this reminds me of moon howlers on here turning their nose up at Kingsley when we were linked with him. Over-thinking things massively. Won't matter anyway as Sibbs will get a better move than us and will be a standout in the league above.

  4. Just take a minute to read the post below, from a Rail Worker, that gives a different perspective to the hyperbole being flung out by HMG's client journalists... Three years ago we accepted a 0% pay rise, two years ago we accepted a 0% pay rise. But this year they came to us with a 0% pay rise plus over 2500 redundancies, changes to terms and conditions. An increase from 28 weeks of nights to 39 weeks of nights. An increase from 32 weekends worked to 39 weekends worked. Currently for a night shift we get time and a quarter, for a weekend turn we get time and a half. They wish to cut both of these to time and a tenth. So that’s a 15% pay cut on every night shift and a 40% pay cut on every weekend turn. But they want us to work more of them. This is their modernisation they talk about. Not technology, we embrace technology and have seen more and more of it in recent years. They also wish to fire and re-hire the operative grades and bring them back under a new job title but on £9000 a year less. They also want them to use their own vehicles to get to work sites, this when fuel is at its highest. They will also be pooled when currently they are part of the team. The press are painting this to be about pay above all else. It is not. But now we’ve said sod them we are going to demand better. I wish everyone could see past the government controlled media smear. #OneRuleForThem

  7. Those aged 60+ are the wealthiest demographic. 1 in 4 have a net worth >£1m. It’s also the demographic most likely to vote and to vote Conservative, but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

  8. Those are literally the main flaws with Currie’s game, he’s very poor at both of them. He’s a solid League One keeper but he very rarely comes off his line and takes control of his box.

  15. Erm no, they are well off. Wealth accumulated in the form of property contributes just as much to their net wealth as income from regular wages/pensions or cash sitting in a bank account. The UK's failure to perceive its enormous issue with wealth inequality while fixating on income is precisely why the country is a fucking basketcase.

  19. I think Cuddihy has already shown loyalty to the club, been here 5 years now. IIRC has always been one of the first to commit when offered new deal, think he deserves this opportunity to explore his options. Livingstone on the other hand apparently been very disrespectful to club and Danny this close season

  20. So what? My folks worked hard to ensure when I got to 21 that I was in a better position then they were at the same age and instilled in me the same desire for my kids. I want them to do better than me and part of that is giving them a good head start. I bet most of the posters on here feel the same and as long as you pay the appropriate taxes etc then what is the problem with families bettering themselves each generation The likes of you, me and every other poster on P&B passing on what we have earned to our kids is not the cause of the massive wealth gap in this country. So what if your kids or my kids have some unearned wealth? That is how life should work - each generation bettering the last.

  21. Went okay today but I do feel it's the same questions just different people saying I need to take my mind off stuff by doing activities, it's hard as though when it's gotten so bad I even empty my bin at night I don't want to the leave the house. Anyone any suggestions for a non TV/Laptop pass time in the flat? I'm thinking of something like go fresh or something when I finally get paid next week (woohoo). Been an amazingly tough month or so but this place has helped me get through really dark times. There really are amazing people on here.

  22. How does paying inheritance tax stop you or your children being successful. Help your kids by making sure they have a safe loving upbringing which supports them to succeed on their own merits. It's no different to stating you don't want to pay income tax as you want to take the wife on a nice holiday.

  23. Thinking someone with property and assets worth 6 figures shouldn't be paying for their own care because then their brats won't get the assets, Tories outing themselves all over the place here.

  25. That's a whole other argument that's been done to death (lol) here previously. Basically it boils down to why should the state shoulder the burden of £Millions of care costs to enable well-off people to leave houses to children who have done absolutely nothing to earn them, other than wait for their parents to die. This of course exacerbates the housing crisis as many of these properties end up being rented out by new private landlords. There are rules in place to prevent sudden transfers of assets etc, so it's not an easy workaround.

  28. I think calling Benedictus "perfectly good" may be stretching it bit. I dunno, I know I keep banging on this drum but a lot of folk seemed happy to re-sign the entire defence that last season leaked like a seive. Now, obviously defending isn't just something that happens in the first third of the pitch, and likely McGlynn's latter day method of pushing his full backs up would leave us quite open on the counter but there was still a lot of examples of us not defending the box very well. A lot of individual errors as well. Of the four defenders who played for us and were out of contract: Tumilty I wanted to keep but was fairly sure we wouldn't. Musonda, based on that season, rather than his first 6 months or so I wasn't really fussed one way or the other. Benedictus I was hoping would go as he looked well past his best and Mackie was no better than Dick, who also isn't very good. A rebuild isn't the worst idea in the world. Obviously there is a risk in twisting rather than sticking, and I may yet be eating Mt words when we sign the second coming of Ross Perry. The issue with our half and half season, our 5th place finish is that you can adequately make the case for any player to be 'good enough' to keep around. However, even when we were doing well last season we leaked goals for fun. I think bringing in Brown to give us an extra tackler in midfield should help, but we shouldn't be adverse to the notion of trying something new. Understandable that the frustration is that nothing has happened at all since last Tuesday.

  31. You’d think going by some of the comments on this that Josh Rae was Oliver Kahn All the best to him at Airdrie as he was good for us but when we’re up against him next season I’m hoping to see him picking the ball out the Airdrie net on numerous occasions!

  32. As much as we Queens fans generally are in agreement Rae is a good keeper (and to be fair he will probably be the best in this division), I don't think any of us believe he is as good as Josh Rae himself thinks he is. His farewell tweet said for him leaving was "a tough decision but one I had to make" which to me inferred that he saw his next move as an upward one, whether that may have been to a Championship side at worst or an English League side. It looks to me like the flood of offers he had expected to receive from bigger clubs than either ourselves or Airdrie didn't arrive after all. No disrespect to Airdrie, but moving down a division isn't really a career move that "has to be made".

  36. A service they'd receive whether they were paying for it or not. There's something a bit off about Mrs X having to pay £500 a week for her care and Mrs Y paying nothing yet both receive exactly the same care. The system is a bit mental in that regard IMO. How is that different from someone receiving Housing Benefit vs people who can afford to paying for rent/mortgage?

  37. I've made an executive decision to not use this guy because if he can't manage to keep to a brief morning look, then what's he going to be like when it comes to installing the thing. Still, I've agreed to have him around later at the very end of a gloriously sunny day, as I'd hate the time-wasting to be all one-sided.

  39. Think you've been listening to too many ridiculous Tory soundbites. Catastrophic? How many people have a train as their sole means of getting to work? It may be the quickest and most convenient way for many, but doubtful it is the only way for most. It's inconvenient, undoubtedly, but for a couple of days hardly catastrophic ffs. All this nonsense in the media about a pensioner who'll miss the bingo because the trains are off, or a veteran who's bin day will be missed if the refuse workers strike is all tory propaganda pish to turn the public against whichever organisation at the time has the temerity to stand up for themselves and ask for a fair deal. The gullible and hard of thinking fall for it.....
