  1. “OK with Connolly going”. What the actual f**k do folk watch every week?! Scored or assisted 13 goals last season from wide, after being inexplicably left out the side for a large portion of the season, and won POTY. One of the worst shouts I’ve seen on here for a long time, and that’s really saying something.

  2. If the NT is shut during construction it’ll only improve the atmosphere in the SRE. We’re really lucky to have a guy in charge that is at least trying to progress the club forward and isn’t just willing to settle for the status quo.

  3. I've not read the article but he's certainly not trimming the midfield. Also, getting rid of Connolly as someone suggested would be a horrendous decision.

  5. I'll hide all this for folk that would rather wait for the club to talk about it. Don't think I'm posting anything confidential but if I am, I'm sure @Finlay21will let me know. There was loads of stuff said by Mathie who was really impressive it must be said. Really struck gold by getting the guy on board.

  7. You aren't eligible for benefits if you have over £15,000 of savings. The average percentage required for a deposit on a mortgage is 15%. So this will help people who are on benefits, have about £15k saved up and are looking to buy a house for £100,000. The average house price in Scotland as of December last year was £180,485. The cheapest housing could be found in East Ayrshire which was £121,000. The demographic of people who this measure could help is vanishingly small. It's almost like the UK government has no idea what to do about anything and will come up with any old shite.

  8. Obviously it's a considerable downgrade in opposition, but everything you'd have wanted to see after last week was on display for most of last night - effective pressing, higher tempo, good ball retention and aggression. We could/should have scored more but it wasn't for lack of trying against a very defensive set-up - we hit the bar/post at least 3 times, had a goal disallowed and forced a very good save as well as the two goals scored. It was as comfortable and well-managed a home win as you'd want to see. This subforum is responsible for some of the most stultifyingly ill-informed opinions I've ever seen, but I'm not sure what more some people were expecting from the team last night.

  9. What a call. Chinatoon enters the FFC thread hall of fame

  10. Clarke does not give a tiny f**k about "calls" for anything. He kept Adams on in the hope he would get a goal because he will be starting the next two games on account of being miles better than the other available strikers.

  11. Pub league level signing !!! ........ .......joking of course. Wish he had been signed by the BU's to be honest. Watched him in a few Bo'ness Athletic games. He has everything in the locker. Pace, skill, shooting ability and stamina. What impressed me most was he passes when he should pass and he shoots when he should shoot. So many forwards get their decision making wrong. Sinclair will be a hit with the Cowdenbeath fans.

  14. Can't believe I read someone saying that they don't think Che Adams cares anymore and looks fed up now. Even at 2-0 in the 70th odd minute, he is chasing every ball down and working his arse off. Lost track of amount of times he stopped balls going out of play and kept possession for us. There is a bunch of times I wish he would strike the ball earlier and he always seems to want an extra touch which often isn't needed and leads him into trouble but his touch is also excellent so he more often than not keeps possession or wins a corner etc. It's maddening to me that Scotland fans can watch him tonight and think he is shite. On a similar note, I can't recall a Scotland performance where we won so many second balls, intercepted the ball and genuinely pressured the opposition into so many mistakes. Yes Armenia were shit but the tempo, the players attitude and the willingness to keep that up for the whole 90 was very pleasing to see. I really don't think we took our foot off the gas for the whole match. Steve Clarke deserved criticism last week for some poor decisions, but tonight he earns praise for bold changes and making sure the correct attitude was applied for the whole match. It was what I as a Scotland fan wanted to see, and got it.

  16. Not understanding the negativity towards McCann. Was a fine player for Airdrie then came to us and never got a run in the team. Genuinely think he could be a player for us if utilised properly.

  18. Great signing, wish I could say the legs were still there for our return to the top flight and he had stayed but DM obviously had other ideas. Our win ratio last year when he played was incredible, our losses without him nearly cost us the championship.

  19. He really wasn’t though. Armenia’s entire tactic was to attempt to deny people space in the box, which they did by basically never having any defenders more than a couple of yards from the box. It’s tricky to create space in those circumstances, and there was also a few times where Armenia’s centre halves doubled up on him (Ralston’s goal for example). Thought there was another few times where he took up good positions and, with a bit more luck, would have had a tap in (Robertson’s shot - if the keeper knocks that out rather than wide, he’s scoring easily). He ran the channels well, and one of their defenders almost certainly should have had a second yellow for a foul on him on one occasion when he did. He also pressed tremendously well (as did the whole team) which was a big part of the reason why Armenia were so poor as they usually gave the ball away under any pressure. His finishing is a concern, and there’s no getting away from that. But the rest of his game is much, much better than any of our other strikers, and he’s obviously a better option than playing Ryan Christie out of position.

  30. As much as Hartley is an arse, I recall having to chuckle at his reaction to an assist against us at Love St. Hearts were 2-0 down, and he was getting it both barrels from the North Bank. They pulled one back before he delivered a free kick that was converted for their equaliser. He cupped his ear, ran the entire length of the North Bank, and was greeted with outrage and indignation from our support, many of whom remonstrated with the referee and even stewards as regards his audacity and offensive behaviour. It was very amusing, tbh.

  37. My next door neighbour happens to be Kevin Kyle, who is a decent big fella’ to talk to - when he moved in, aside from apologising for scoring the first ever goal at our place, he told me about the grief he was getting from our new ‘North Bank’ for putting himself, and his elbows about. He fully admitted to the charge by the way. He was getting the full ‘Kyle, Kyle, get tae’ fcuk’ treatment. Anyway, he said there was a high ball where himself and another Killie player jump for it with a Saints player, with the Saints player getting an accidental head knock from the other Killie player. As our guy lies on the turf, both Kevin Kyle and John Potter stand over him as the trainer sprints on. The West Bank give it the ‘Kyle Kyle get tae’ fcuk’ song... Kevin tells me he turned to John Potter and said ‘What the fcuk are they shouting at me for, I never even touched him’. Potter replied ‘Don’t worry about it big man, they give me pelters every week and I’m their fcuking captain’.

  45. Thought you might want to know about your club's origins, from research I did in support of my forthcoming "free" Scottish League android phone app: Association football was first organised in Alloa by Henry Goodyear, who requested a meeting on September 16th, 1879, at St John's School, where he was a principal assistant. Clackmannan County was formed at this meeting, with Henry being elected as captain, no doubt as he'd played previously for his home town of Belbroughton prior to moving to Alloa. He impressed against King's Park despite their 5-0 defeat, and guested for the Stirling club against Hayburn (Partick) in April 1880. He played in the forward line alongside James Rigg in this match. Henry left the area in July 1880 to attend a scholarship at Warminster College for Missionaries. It was reported that “dissatisfaction sprung up amongst the members” of the County club and, at a meeting instigated by James Rigg at M'Gechaen's Hall, on August 6th, 1880, “Alloa Football Club” was formed with Rigg as their first captain. James was a cabinet-maker and upholsterer by trade, and worked in Alloa. The club shortly changed its name to “Alloa Association Football Club.” Alloa played several matches against Clackmannan County that season. The Dunfermline secretary, Mr J.H. Irvine, misinterpreted “A.A.F.C” to be “Alloa Athletic” in their 2d XI's fixture against Alloa on November 13th, 1880, resulting in them being called this in the Dunfermline press. The Alloa committee liked this name better and so adopted it for the 1881-82 season onwards. In season 1882-83 they ditched their blue jerseys for the orange and black, from which the "Wasps" nickname was coined as early as 1886.

  46. Climbed into the loft and rescued this, which was the first Scottish Football League Review published for season 1980-81. Forword by James Farry, and priced at £2, it helped you find nearest branches of the Clydesdale Bank, nearly all closed down now, like the SFL itself. There's a double page spread for each team, in alphabetical order per league. Pages are too big for my scanner, but I could photograph a few as samples.
