  1. That's plenty. Dick 'dick' Campbell is a proven sectarian bigot and an all-round fud, who Scottish football has bizarrely elevated into a 'character'. He's had plenty of the limelight and used it to consistently make an arse of himself with fantasy island claims. Campbell has undoubtedly done a fantastic job with Arbroath, but to see that vile Uncle Fester figure bubbling like a wee wean last night was absolutely fucking glorious.

  3. Obviously a hard one to take but we have had great season above all expectations. Should have won the game but couldn't take our chances and Inverness defending was decent most of the time. 300 mins at Gayfield without scoring against them sums it up really. Feel more sorry for Bobby Linn than I do for myself. He is a legend for Arbroath. Look forward to going again next season. Congratulations to the away fans that were at the game tonight, good support for your team.

  5. Erm, no. It's in McGlynn's interests to assemble a squad of players that he is comfortable working with and who he believes can contribute something next season. If that results in the vast majority of these players being told that they are not part of his plans going forward and advised to spend the summer seeking an alternative employer, so be it. He's paid to make such decisions. Your "give their best" line is beyond laughable. Did you watch any games at all last season? You're talking about a squad who, by and large, did not give a single toss, who displayed zero professional pride, integrity, fight, spirit, who were already beaten before they even took to the pitch against such illustrious names as Airdrieonians, Cover Rangers, Montrose. You go back a lot further than me it seems, can you come up with a squad who put in less effort than last seasons mob? McGlynn owes these players the square root of f**k all.

  6. To be honest - I find the 'bottling' comments etc. hilarious - the majority being really poor wind ups to anyone whose watched us play over the course of this season and knows what we're good/ not so good at and a minority being genuine morons who think it to be the case. Either way.... Last night summarises many aspects of our season - all of our biggest strengths, our shape, discipline, structure etc. are all defensive/ nullifying strengths, which have enabled us to grind out so many points over the season. The times we've struggled, and not picked up a better result than we did, are the games we've had to come out and break the opposition down and all the strengths mentioned above are a great platform, but they're not ones that win games like last night. You could see how many of our players legs were gone well before the end, making it so hard to keep giving overlaps and constant options/ movement where we should have been/ wanted too. If we'd scored at any point in the first hour of that game, we'd all have been confident of going on to win the game regardless of how many men Inverness had on the pitch, as we've played that game so well so many times this season. In all honesty, I saw the play offs as a massive outside shot in the scheme of things, and prior to them there was a large part of me that wished the season ended after the Morton game, as it was the perfect send off to a wonderful campaign.

  7. Haven’t read any of the match comments on this thread but just want to say congratulations to ICT. Great defensive display and thought their fans were great. Can’t see them beating Saints though. Everything just seemed a bit flat for us and, even though we had a shit ton of possession and chances, we barely troubled Ridgers. ICT really had our number this season - highest scorers in the league but only managed one solitary goal against them in 570 minutes of football. Finally - how atrocious were the officials? We all know Collum is bad but f**k me. Looking forward to next season.

  10. Can ANYONE actually explain what the problem is with an artificial surface that’s been used for a few years? I watched Arbroath v ICT last night and a player ballooned the ball over the bar due to a bobble on the grass surface. Yet no-one complains that it’s desperately time to replace the grass surface (even though it is). I can’t remember watching a game at TFS and thinking if we had a better surface we might have scored there or that a player wouldn’t have tripped and got injured due to the pitch specifically. I can on grass surfaces though. Given our alleged financial predicament, I can think of better uses for cash whilst in the third tier playing teams with tinpot surfaces….

  18. Well done Bonnyrigg. Not counting the City of Edinburgh you're the first Midlothian Scottish League Club since Penicuik in the 1920s. Enjoy the ride next season. What we Edinburgh City fans found was that there is a big step up from the Lowland League to even facing the weaker clubs. Some of our League winning squad who were expected to do well in League Two struggled while others who we thought might struggle stepped up and did well. Get in a couple of experienced League Two players and, while you'll be competing with us for them, a couple of good Hearts/Hibs youth loans and you should be OK. Your rough guide to the League (journeys are from Edinburgh): You'll have maybe played some of these teams over the years anyway: Dumbarton: Play at a fairly modern one stand ground. Grass pitch. The ground is near the train station and there's a direct train from Edinburgh. We went to The Stag's Head near the ground which was fine. There's a bowling club nearby too. Pies are ok. Annan: You can get the train to Carlisle and then from Carlisle to Annan station. Otherwise it's a drive down through Biggar to the M74 and then a 20 journey down a side road. Artificial pitch, a ground with a modern stand and a shed. Great social club. Annan fans are quite nice. The pie I had last night was good. There is a good chip shop in the town centre (about a 20 minute walk up the road) where Robert Burns wrote "The Deil's awa with the excise man" Forfar: Bridies obviously. Easy enough trip up the M90/A90. Tidy little ground with an artificial pitch. Forfar fans are decent enough. We had a pint in the Osnabruck off the High Street which does a nice pint of Jarl although there is a fans' bar at the ground. Stenhousemuir: 20 minute walk from Larbert Train station or easy enough journey up the M9. Modern stand and covered shed. Artificial pitch. There is a small fans' bar under the stand. Soup and pies here which is good for a cold day. Stenny fans are generally passionate about their team. Stranraer: It can be a long trip- we go M8 then through East Kilbride to Kilmarnock and down through Ayrshire. That A road can be clogged with lorries etc going to Cairnryan for the NI ferry. You can get a train from Glasgow Central but I'm not sure about the Saturday timetable. Quite a picturesque trip though. Stair Park has two stands, an old one and a big new one and a covered shed behind one of the goals. Grass pitch. I don't mind Stranraer, their fans seem nice enough. There are a couple of pubs in the town which isn't too far to walk from the ground and Stranraer's social club. Half time refreshments come from a burger van. Stirling Albion: Two stands at Forthbank but they tend to use only one. Grass pitch. It's a bit of a walk from Stirling train station but easy to get to if driving. They seem to have a new pie caterer and the pies were quite good. Stirling fans are a generally passionate lot as well (must be something in the Central Scotland water). I think there's a bar at the ground but I've never been in. Elgin City: A loooong way away but worth the trip. You can train it either Edinburgh-Aberdeen-Elgin or Edinburgh-Inverness-Elgin. Driving there you go up the A9 and cut across at Aviemore. Borough Briggs is my favourite L2 ground because it's a typical old fashioned ground that hasn't changed much over the years. Old stand and shed. Grass pitch. Stand side pie stall does pies, shed pie stall does chips. There's a bar under the stand. Elgin is a bit like Dunbar in that it has it's own microclimate so it can be blanket snow across Morayshire and Inverness and Borough Briggs will be untouched and playable. Elgin fans are nice enough. East Fife: I've only been here once in a midweek cup replay. The Soup was nice and kept me warm. If training it you'll have to get off at Kirkcaldy and get a bus to Methil. Modern one stand ground with artificial pitch. I think there's a fans bar there but I can't remember. Albion Rovers: Take the train to Coatdyke from Edinburgh and walk down the hill or drive up the M8 and turn off for Coatbridge. You can also take the A89 through Broxburn and Bathgate but it's longer. There is an old stand dating from the early 1920s and a small terrace behind one of the goals. The larger terrace on the other side is not used. Grass pitch. Pies ok. The nearby pub, Owen's, is decent. Rovers fans are passionate and can be quite witty too.

  22. Surely the point is that we are reaching out to the wider football community and creating a link that will in future create either first team players or fans! I take on board PL’s comments regarding Club Academy football but that costs money that lost clubs don’t have, hence the relatively small number of clubs operating through CAS. I think the latter is achievable though if the club are building relations with the community. Surely that and other community initiatives should be applauded? The above doesn’t detract from the shambles on the first team football side, but there’s a sense at the moment that absolutely everything is negative and the club deserve both barrels on everything. Anything the club are doing to strengthen community relations should be applauded imo. It’s what we’ve failed to do for past generations and it’ll arguably have a more realistic benefit longer term than the mythical stadium extravaganza on Renton Road.

  25. It's rare that I'll post in this section of the forum. But I'll lay my personal opinion out to give maybe a different perspective, I'm sure I'm not the only one with this or a similar point of view. I'm generally in favour of independence. I normally vote for independence supporting parties. But if independence was dependent on me voting Alba whilst they are standing people with views I find abhorrent (like Alex Arthur for an example), then f**k independence. I get that for people like you it's that important, but to me it's not important enough to sell out my morals and give people like him even 5 minutes of political support. So whilst your blaming others for being devisive and ruining the chance of independence, then also be aware that the people you are supporting are also devisive and possibly turning others away from supporting independence. Before you reply, please consider that I don't want you to try and convince me that Alba are misrepresented. I don't care if you think I'm not seeing the bigger picture, or even care if you think I'm an idiot or some kind of quisling. Just giving you a personal point of view.

  26. Our problem at East Kilbride too and probably for every town in Scotland. This year East Kilbride (New town) turns 75, we're playing a cup final tomorrow and I bet if you stopped a hundred people in the town they wouldn't know, it's shameful. My uncle, born and bred in Buckie is a Celtic season ticket holder. Gie yersel a shake FFS.

  29. I don't think Arbroath fans have anything to bitter about. We went into the last 2 games of the season with the league title in our own hands. We fell short by a narrow margin and again in the playoffs but we had an excellent season and can be proud of the effort all the players made. It was a free hit for us and we will be back next season to try again.

  33. I completely get why everyone wants us down for the lols and because apparently an away trip to Perth is shite. But claiming it’s a shite away trip when your own team is Motherwell, st Mirren or Kilmarnock is a bit lacking in self-awareness. The blandest league fillers out there. Fans of Dundee or Edinburgh clubs, however, wire in ..

  34. Disappointed not to convert a single chance during regular play despite all the pressure. As has been mentioned, we’re the league’s top scorers but only managed 1 in 6 games v ICT this season. ICT barely put in an attack the whole game but tenacious defending and our lack of composure with a string of chances did for us. All that said, it may be a blessing in disguise that we didn’t progress, especially through the lottery of penalties. We are probably at some kind of ceiling so even the final and if we somehow negotiated our way around that, I’m not sure the prospect of a grim survival struggle in yet a higher league appealed. If we had somehow pipped Killie to the title, that might have been different, winning it outright.. Yes, Hamilton performed miracles to stay up after going through in the playoffs but doubt we could match that without major and undesirable changes We can savour this season’s showing, which will hard to repeat but if we can compete in the Championship a few more seasons, that might be a bit more sustainable and enjoyable. Great to see Gayfield packed but looking forward to more run-of-the-mill games where there is space to watch - I was reminded of the severe limitations of standing on the terraces compared with seating. I just can’t see what the fuss - from some quarters - about the sendings-off. Both the straight red for the last man grappling a player to the ground and the second yellow for a lunge challenge seemed straightforward and uncontroversial to me. Can’t recall what the first yellow was. Time for a well earned break for fans and players alike. Not sure I’ll be watching the final on TV since these tense/frantic occasions seldom offer entertainment tho often drama.
