  1. The irony meter is off the scale here in that you are accusing people of being easily pleased about a defender that played hundreds of games for us after arriving on trial, won the first division & challenge cup, scored in a Scottish cup final win, was in multiple top 6/qualifying for Europe sides and was generally a perfectly competent top flight player whilst at the same time offering a defence of Cameron McPherson not being all that bad. Think it is clear to see who is easily pleased here.

  2. It really isn't. The vast majority of the Act of Union is about the detail of things that will remain different in Scotland and in England and how that difference will be managed. Except, of course, that no court has ever definitively ruled that Parliamentary sovereignty is absolute, or that the Treaties of Union place no limits on them. This informs the extent to which the constitutional conditions giving rise to devolution are the product of pure Westminster sentiments or more fundamental principles of a state founded on the mutual bargaining of formerly independent nations. Go and read Lord Hope in Jackson v Attorney General. Go and read Lord Cooper of Culross in MacCormick v Lord Advocate. Go and read Lord Keith in Gibson v Lord Advocate. These are not unresolved questions. You are indeed correct that you are under no obligation to relieve yourself of your own childish ignorance.

  3. I can’t believe this discussion about an absolute abomination of a midfielder includes someone having a pop at club legend Steven Anderson, who no doubt had his flaws but played 400 games for a reason - namely he was a damn good player and widely respected as such by his peers and fans of other teams.

  4. I wouldn't say this debacle is being blamed on Rangers - it's more about the absolute state of the wider world of Scottish sports journalism. However, it's an interesting question as to whether someone who "learned the three Rs - Rangers and Rangers reserves" in childhood, states it as a self-identifying point in his bio, and who has therefore spent life steeped in "We are the Peepul" sectarian triumphalism, may be more inclined than someone else to punch down with hate speech and horrible jokes about women, foreigners, and gay people. Who knows? Maybe he's part of a "small minority" and there's nothing to see here.

  7. To my mind: One that represents the interests of people whose main economic attribute is their endowment of time for working rather than wealth. It should have strong links with Unions. It should favour equality of opportunity, a good social security safety net and a free NHS. It should be prepared to consider public ownership of natural monopolies (usually large infrastructure networks) but not be ideologically tied to public ownership. It should be broadly pacifist and internationalist. It shouldn't do stupid shit like backing austerity and trying to out tory the dark side on immigration, like the blairite goons.

  15. No, I'm not. It's a comment about the fact that this pair of clowns can only afford to take this public bun fight to court because of the fact they married wealth. Without being married to a footballer it's highly, highly unlikely either of them would ever have attained the sort of public profile that would see them having a media-fuelled public slagging match in the first place, nor would they be able to pursue this ridiculous court action that is being driven by nothing but pure ego and vanity. It's not pouring scorn on people in low-paid, low-profile jobs, it's pouring scorn on this pair of muppets who are only capable of acting like this in the first place because of who they married. You can buy practically anything material courtesy of marrying wealth, but it seems you can't buy dignity or class.

  20. Craig remains active looking to block space and then moves in to defend any rebound after a save. "Cammy" stops at the edge of the box and just stands watching play go around him. That's his flaw, he's horrendous at ball watching and folk run off him. He's not one you can trust defensively, and he doesn't offer any goal threat, so what's the point of him? He barely keeps the ball better than the others because he generally ends every 3rd move with a moronic Hollywood pass that goes out for a throw in or falls short. Given a choice I'd have him ahead of Ali Crawford, simply because MacPherson is younger and might still develop, but by all accounts he already thinks he's the finished model so I'd have my doubts. The idea he's anywhere close to Ali McCanns level is genuinely hilarious. The signings of him and Crawford sum up our shit squad and shit manager. Two absolutely fucking nothing, shitebag, players who saunter about the park knowing the shitebag manager isn't going to do anything when they f**k up. The idea we have any of the three beyond this season is nauseating, they can all get to absolute f**k tomorrow and take about 10 others alongside them.

  24. Also good to see over 5,000 Dees turning up for an evening game when the team looked like it was going to be relegated. Last time a team from Dundee played an evening game in this city when it looked like they were going to be relegated only 1,940 of their fans turned up.

  26. We get shite crowds because Invernessians don’t care about the club or the city really. The city has grown a lot in the last few decades but I think most of the growth hasn’t boosted the club - people either support different teams or don’t care about football. Theres also the problem that people from Inverness originally often have a weird attitude about the town, an inferiority complex. Supporting Caley isn’t “proper” football. When I lived and worked in the city people in my work or the pub or wherever would find out you liked football and start talking about Rangers or Celtic or English teams and be surprised when you said you supported Caley. I think that might have changed a bit among younger people but I’m not sure. Among my generation and older a lot of people just saw everything in Inverness as a bit inferior. As RiG said above, we averaged 5000 or thereabouts in some of our better seasons in the top flight in our first spell there but we haven’t been able tos sustain it and being relegated and blowing the on field legacy of the cup win hasn’t helped us regain that.

  30. I idea that Cameron MacPherson is in any way good enough to play central midfield for a club that has had Morris, Millar and McCann as ball players in there over the last 15 years shows how much standards have dipped. I suppose he's probably better than some jobber that played there in 1986 though.

  31. First of all, Thanks to all at the Mo for another very good season overall. It is harsh to blame the management for Saturday but at the end of the day, the buck stops with them. Losing a three goal cushion with 20 minutes to go isn't just football; it is game management found wanting. As I saw it, Petrie subbed CJ and Gardyne because he was already thinking ahead to the final and wanted to rest them. Murray's subs, especially the big physical presence of Afolabi, who was giving the Mo defence huge problems, just piled the pressure on the Mo. That pressure ultimately yielded goals, however well the Mo sought to defend. Our attacking threat was neutralised. Rennie's goal was a crumb of comfort and fair play to the team for scrapping till the end. However, over the course of the season, I feel, with the games at Links Park at least, game management was an issue. We didn't lose many games but those we did and those others in which we dropped points, were down, at least in part to not killing off games while we were ahead. Next season isn't going to be any easier, so Petrie has to cultivate an absolute ruthlessness in the team, to learn from the misery of Saturday and never again squander the kind of momentum we had up until Airdrie's second goal. I clapped as enthusiastically as any other Mo fan on Saturday because I did feel the players gave their all. It wasn't for want of effort. However after emerging from a dazed and confused state of mind, I am past the stage of platitudes. I hope that the team aren't just disappointed but actually spurred on and angry from Saturday to develop a new determination to learn from a horrible experience and not allow the game to be turned the way it was. Kudos to Airdrie for never giving up. They were having a nightmare yet managed to turn the game round with twenty minutes to go. They deserved to win. Their nightmare became ours. This defeat was definitely harder to deal with than either our defeat to QoS or Morton. This had a different feel from the wipe out at Dumfries or the sickening Morton last minute winner. I really, really hope this won't spell the end of promotion playoffs for the Mo and that Petrie will learn and pick up the pieces and fire up the Mo to do better this coming season. As others have said, we maybe aren't ready for the Championship yet. It is easy to have our heads turned by the success of our neighbours to the south and good luck to them but I am really grateful that Saturday was a promotion playoff and not one for relegation. How much worse would that have been? League One is sure to be a really competitive league as the Pyramid is giving lower league football the kick in the pants it was needing. I always cherish the dream that football success is about more than having the most money and that Montrose FC can continue to punch above their weight for many a season to come. Hoping that if Arbroath do manage to get promoted and strengthen their side accordingly, we can benefit from that. Right, rant over. Back to normal life.

  32. Came in yesterday, yet again bemoaning the rising costs in the supermarket, including the price of the nice specially selected cooked meat she'd bought. Walked into the kitchen a wee while later to find her feeding a couple of slices of said meat to the dug. Now I'm very fond of the dug, he's a great wee c*nt, but with the speed he rattles his food at, I doubt he'd have known whether it was honey roast ham or donkeys bawbag. At least she'd kept enough for my piece.

  33. Superb, couple of brilliant goals and a brilliant result to take down to Annan, looking forward to Friday. Had never been to Annan before but went the other week for the Kelty game for something to do and like buses, never go at all and now twice in 2 weeks. Fancy City to finish the job, Annan will have to come out and fancy a few goals on the break. The thought of City being in league 1 is mad, if you’d have said to me 10 years ago when I was playing for Edinburgh City (albeit youth team) that in 10 years time they’d be in the same division as Falkirk and Dunfermline I’d have thought you were mental. Similar to the Dumbarton game, it could have gone either way, Edinburgh City simply more clinical.

  35. The players looked like they’d downed tools at the weekend. Like a lot of others I’m just waiting for the confirmation of relegation, not to be disheartened or pissed off about it, but for a chance to get excited about the club again; hopefully hiring a good manager with the potential for a squad rebuild and promotion push next season. Whether or not it will be a success, time will time.

  38. Cheers. I'm just a bit annoyed that they can act like this, lose out financially even if the court sides with them, and yet they'll inevitably be all over the papers crowing about how they feel 'vindicated' and won't give two hoots about being worse off by a sum that would take most ordinary people 5-10 years to earn. It infuriates me how relatively powerless ordinary people are to stand up to bullying by others far more wealthy or powerful than they are, so to see two people indulging their ego like this when it's over not much more than a load of fishwife gossip, and only because they won't feel the financial consequences, really sticks in the craw. They've both been implored by their lawyers to settle this out of court because of the ridiculous cost involved, the total waste of court time to settle a pissing contest, and the fact that even if they 'win' they'll still be on the hook for costs that far outweigh any award, and yet they're both still absolutely determined to plough on regardless. It's a pity the judge doesn't have the means to slap them both with a contempt charge then just dismiss the case as frivolous

  39. Actually think there's scope to grow our baseline home crowd even beyond the level we saw in the top flight. The area's population has grown a fair bit since we were last in that division. Appreciate a lot of that will be due to us becoming more of a commuter town but over time it's not unthinkable that we can start converting some of those arrivals into fans if we can have some level of success.

  41. I'm in an agreement with this. He is usually a walking yellow card when he gets tired but I feel if you used him correctly and for certain games ud see what is in his locker. Nobody ever doubted his ability but his fitness hasn't helped in certain games in the season. I'd give him a last season in championship and maybe even In to coaching if he is going down that avenue.

  42. Yeh, I’ve always thought Charlie would be at his best when mostly used as a sub this season. We know he’s not the fittest so bringing him on when opposition players are tiring would even that issue up a bit and allow his skills to dominate more.

  45. Schalke 3-2 St Pauli. Apologies if this doesn't go down well like the Liverpool games But I felt this was too good not to share. For the first time since 2019 (cheers Covid) I was back with the Iron Blue Heidelberg fan club to watch Schalke. Just being back was fantastic, seeing a lot of faces I hadn't seen for 3 years, but I don't think in my wildest dreams I could've imagined witnessing what I did. Thanks to Fortuna Dusseldorf beating Darmstadt on Friday evening, a win would secure promotion back to the Bundesliga for Schalke. 2-0 down after 17 minutes, it looked like we wouldn't witness it and we'd have to watch the final day back in Scotland to see if they could make the return, and then, the Roy of the Rovers-esque come back was on. A Simon Terodde penalty immediately after the restart gave us hope and he scored again with 20 to go. The tension in the stadium at this point was incredible. Then, substitute Rodrigo Zalazar emphatically finished to make it 3-2 on 78 minutes to wild celebrations in the Nordkurve. St Pauli ended with 9 men and had a penalty claim, but eventually, the final whistle blew and that was it! There were tears, hugs and all manner of celebrations around me. I've honestly never experienced such euphoria at a match, and the noise was simply incredible. Even watching the highlights back I'm overwhelmed. Despite warnings against it, the fans invaded the pitch (I couldn't help myself) but it was pretty scary. The surge forward in the Nordkurve could have honestly caused a crush and it was rather unsettling looking back. Once at the front of the Nordkurve there's roughly a 10 foot drop to get trackside but I had no option but to brave it and go for it. Worth it in the end however as we stayed on the pitch for a long time after celebrating with fans and players alike. Sadly, my phone died at half time so I didn't get much content for myself. Was far too caught up in the moment anyway but this photo below is a cracker (albeit not mine). All in all a truly remarkable evening, a night and match I will never forget for the rest of my life. And next year I'll be back to watch Bundesliga action!

  47. This is about the size of it. Seeing the likes of Streeting, Nandy, Phillips and a parade of Guardian and Mirror journalists criticising the dishonesty and bad faith of people using this to knobble Starmer while clearly not giving a f**k about the underlying issue - some nutter pundit even described this as the worst partisan attack a leader of the opposition has ever faced from the British press - is simply extremely funny after the conduct of the same people over the last 7 years. I was under the impression that believing negative stories could be created by the press out of thin air was a sure sign of dangerous Stalinist cranks who are a genuine threat to democracy and a free press? Keir Starmer deports people over a scoop of ice cream, locks them up for months for stealing a bottle of water and tried to deliver an autistic man to life imprisonment in the US, being absolutely furious when a bleeding heart liberal like, er, Theresa May intervened to stop him. Going by his standards the proportionate response to him having a curry would an extraordinary rendition to be waterboarded by the CIA. If he ends up resigning then good, f**k him.
