  2. Heading down to Embra the noo to get access to the court file for my adoption. I've never really known about the first two years of my life, so whatever information won't be particularly cheery (i was taken rather than given up). Weirdly I don't feel at all anxious or anything given the potential magnitude of it.

  3. Sacking your manager after four months? Missing out on the top 6 with a last minute goal? Dropping from double champions to relegation fodder? Accepting a sponsorship deal from a scam Crypto company? Amateurs. Dundee... Hired a manager who immediately had to serve a six game ban from five years ago. Said manager is subsequently on an 11 game winless streak. Said manager threw a strop at a journalist when asked a routine question about a substitution. Had a player commit the worst dive in football history. Signed an out of shape, scandal ridden Leigh Griffiths. Said player's main contribution was kicking a flare in to the stands. Punted their top scorer for free. Said top scorer has subsequently scored 9 goals in 18 games with his new club. Kept their manager after a 6-0 gubbing at home to Ross County. Sacked said manager after two back to back wins. Signed a much hyped Canadian midfielder to a three year contract, then never played him. Had one of their forwards miss a set piece as he was retrieving a hair bobble. You can't compete with such dedication to the banter.

  4. Is that Jamie Wilson that was at Dumbarton? If so a 2 year deal for him is possibly one of the worst deals ever done.

  8. What a day, find out Bairn in Exile isn't a wee school kid taken by his parents to run a Benidorm bar but a 60 something bloke, mind blown. The most mental post I've seen in long enough from Taxi Massis, then Hope Street Walker continually being Hope Street Walker multiple times. A release list to beat all release lists, with a bonus of ATS being on it for me, as I thought he had another year to go, thank f**k. Then an old school manager to top it off. And it's only 5pm.

  15. The CEO has to go as well for me. How the f**k have we lost our management team when she's living in the same house as one of them. Not to mention various other debacle she's overseen. The timing of of it is fucking horrendous. What decent players we have out of contract will most definetly be away. Other clubs will swoop in like vultures now. Even the likes of Benedictus will likely be gone as well because he's not going to wait around for some new guy to come in and decide he doesn't fancy him. Talk of a reduced transfer budget is also going to put off any decent manager not to mention our fucking embarrassment of a board who couldn't find their own arse with both hands.

  17. I am not remotely in the know so this could be complete nonsense but I was told Falkirk did actually ask the Rovers for permission (which was granted) before they spoke to McGlynn last week because he is technically still under contract until the end of May. Not heard anything suggesting there has been any poor conduct in the approach of Falkirk. The Rovers fans are angry at our own board for getting to the last game of the season before deciding what to do with our manager, I’ve not seen any anger directed to Falkirk or their board. I don’t think McGlynn could have had any complaints if he was let go after the disastrous second half of the season but the board couldn’t seem to decide either way. We are now left in the impossible position of either losing a popular manager to a team in the league below or trying to match Falkirk’s offer by handing a long contract and large wage increase to someone who has won 3 of their last 19 league games and hasn’t won a home game since December.

  23. Why else would Rangers fans eulogise him? Obviously the players he has worked with hold him in high regard, likewise with kitmen at many other clubs. In the main I don’t think fans could give 2 hoots about kitmen because from the outside it has absolutely no bearing on what you are paying to see. Celtic aside given their kitman’s achievements, if he is still there. Jimmy Bell was lauded for being one thing only - stuck in the dark ages.

  24. This season has shown the limits of "points are all that matters" football I think (it's certainly reached mine for the first time). People will thole relatively grim percentage football if it works, but when you can't even point to the fact that we're picking up points at a decent rate, there's nothing left for folk that are forking out a lot of money following us. My view is that Motherwell are a (the?) midtable team - so finishing somewhere between 5th and 8th is our natural territory and so I've got no overblown ideas of what we should be achieving over the long term - but I'd like some fun along the way. My idea of pragmatic football is that we make life miserable for bigger teams (like we did to Aberdeen and Hearts at Fir Park this season in fact) and we play some modestly entertaining attacking football against our peers and smaller teams. Having a squad that can pivot between two types of football (and having a manager that is flexible enough to make it happen) is very difficult and a bit of holy grail for a club like ours - but we haven't been close this season despite a top half finish.

  27. I've thought long and hard about it over the last few days since it became rumoured - things are allowed to be nuanced and people are allowed to have conflicting feelings. The DGW stuff still makes me a little uncomfortable and I think I and others are entitled to feel that way - that influenced the way I spoke about him before. However, as others rightly pointed out, he came out in the aftermath, seeming genuinely remorseful about the whole episode. He should be definitely be allowed a fresh start with us. I'm actually just genuinely excited to be appointing a manager who has a proven record of actually fucking organising a team and decent recruitment - it should hopefully ensure we don't see a repeat of the total shambles we've seen over the last few years with people who were so under-qualified that they should never have been in the position in the first place - I'm looking at you M&M, Holt and Sheerin. Finally, fair play to the board to pull this off and convince him to come to us, particularly as it appears Raith threw the kitchen sink at it late on. Really, really hoping it pays off.

  28. I’d be mightily surprised if Spencer goes with him. Clubs in our league are also sniffing round him. Genuinely gutted to lost McGlynn, but I can understand why he’d want a move away. Better money, more security, I get it. My favourite ever Rovers manager. Look after him.

  29. Look let's get this nipped in the bud right now. One person has alleged this and its not even based on fact but his own opinion. The real reasons for the criticism of Erhahon have been expressed...he's lazy off the ball, his passing is frequently erratic and he all too often disappears during a game. The colour of his skin has fuck all to do with that criticism.

  30. May I present to you the case of Dunfermline Athletic Football Club: Appointed Peter Grant as manager. Peter Grant had, the season before (20/21), managed Alloa to relegation. That season before (20/21) we won a single away game all season. This was of course against Peter Grant’s Alloa, where we won 1-4. Peter Grant left Alloa after relegating them (his contract was finished). They didn't seem desperate to keep him on and very few appeared to upset at him leaving. Peter Grant seemingly never actually applied for the job; he was approached by the board, who apparently were impressed by how his Alloa team played football, even going so far as to call it ‘good football’. They even cited the 1-4 win as a prime example, and the game that apparently swayed them. Grant’s football was so ‘good’ that his Alloa team were relegated, finishing a clear 7 points behind 9th. Peter Grant’s appointment immediately halted season ticket sales, as it was greeted with a rather unfavourable reaction. To the shock of no one save the morons who appointed him, Peter Grant was the worst manager in the club’s history (0 wins in 12 league games, with 9 goals scored and 20 conceded). He made incredibly poor signings and put together a really pish squad. He signed about 238949832 centre backs. Peter Grant talked about handing out 'bowlfuls of confidence' to players. Going by how we played, he couldn't even manage a fucking thimbleful of confidence. Paul Watson was fired from the club for fucking off on holiday, seemingly faking COVID to do so. Peter Grant stated that Watson came back in to training “with a tan and a haircut”. After losing to Queen of the South (our 8th league game, zero wins), fans were expecting Grant to be sacked. When a club statement was put up, fans thought it has happened (https://dafc.co.uk/story.php?t=DAFC_Board_Statement&ID=13369). Instead, the statement unbelievably backed Grant, claiming that he has proven he can “handle such situations in the past”. It also claimed that a disallowed goal at Queen of the South lost us the game, despite Pars TV clearly showing it to be offside, with a large ‘Offside’ flashing on screen in the highlights of the incident. The club lied to the fans. A long, mewling list of excuses were rattled off, despite every club having to operate with the same (injuries, COVID). The fans were them pretty much blamed for losing the club sponsors. An incident at the end of the game, where a fan ran to the barrier to shout abuse, was massively blown out of proportion by the club. After keeping Peter Grant on and the club backing him, Grant went on to win zero games. He was sacked after a 2-4 loss at Arbroath, after which some fans ‘attacked’ the team bus. The first game after Grant’s departure was cause for optimism. Greg Shields and Steven Whittaker, the first team coaches, took charge. We lost 1-3 at home to Morton. The club appointed John Hughes. He signed utter trash, with one or two exceptions. Hughes let Craig Wighton, possibly the best striker at the club, go out on loan to Arbroath. Hughes chucked in Lewis McCann and persisted with him for ages when it wasn’t really working. Overall, we signed 17 players this season (including loans). We had 10 players play as centre back, with about 8 different pairings. We signed 4 goalkeepers. We already had one (OFW). One of these keeper never played (Currid) and was released. Another was released (OFW). Another was one of the worst keepers seen at East End (Mehmet). Another was signed as backup and goalie coach (Alexander), and has never played for the club. One of our keepers was on international duty. At the time the only other keeper on the books was an injury doubt. There was real potential for another Ryan Stevenson situation. The keeper did overcome his injury and did play (Mehmet, and he was decent for once). This was why Alexander was signed, but he wasn’t needed. We were knocked out of the Scottish Cup immediately. We have not won a game in the Scottish Cup since November 2017. We have not scored a goal in the Scottish Cup since January 2018. The club didn’t bother to let fans in over the winter period when limited numbers were allowed. John Hughes has not been a success. He has overseen 22 games. He was won 6. He was drawn 6. He has lost 10. Despite this, a late winner against Ayr at East End Park put us 8th, with two games to go, and it was in the team’s own hands to avoid 9th place. What followed was a hideously poor display at Partick Thistle, where had one attempt on goal. One, in a game we desperately needed to win. Despite this, there was a small chance that we could get 8th on the last day of the season, should we win and Ayr lose or draw. Ayr won, and we lost. The players confirmed that they were a bag of shitebag losers who let the Ayr result affect them (https://dafc.co.uk/story.php?t=Inexcusable_and_miles_off_it_&ID=13758). The playoffs it is then. We are to play Queens Park. The home leg is this Saturday. The club announced the ticket prices; the same prices as normal. This did not go down well with fans. The club’s social media was pretty much nothing but fans expressing their anger at the pricing. Multiple people wrote to the club. The club climbed down from the rank pricing for the Queens Park playoff, issuing a short, huffy statement (https://dafc.co.uk/story.php?t=Updated_Pricing_for_Queens_Park&ID=13759) that once again lied to the fans by claiming that the prices for the last playoff game we were in where fans were allowed (vs Dundee United, Premiership playoffs) were consistent with the pricing for that league campaign. This is untrue, as the club reduced prices for that game. Relegation?

  32. Talking about significant games, I love stumbling across links between quite separate moments of our history. Reading an old PA published the day before one of the biggest games in our history against Airdrie in 1990, I browsed a few pages back and saw a wee report tucked into the Announcements section:

  33. Telfer would have been absolutely fine if he'd had a couple of decent players around him. Laddie did more running than Hetherington, Miller & Jacobs put together. You could see his head drop some times though because he must have been thinking - 'what's the fuckin point?'

  34. During those two seasons he laid the foundations which had us challenging for promotion our first season up by signing young, talented players like hendry, Spencer etc We also can't understate the impact he's had on youth recruitment during both spells. Players like Matthews, callachan, Vaughan came through after he had made changes to how we approached youth recruitment. During his second spell we've had Bowie and tait, sold for decent money. Arnott looks the latest to be capable of stepping up. For all the sins of the past 6 months, let's not forget just how good John McGlynn and Paul Smith have been for our club over the two spells.

  36. Remember Geoff's comments saying saints would have been fine in those days if half the people who claimed to be at the East Stirling game were actually there. The oddest thing I find about the attitude is that it should be the expectation. I've been going for almost exactly 30 years now and in that time we've spent 10 in the second tier and only once finished in the bottom half of that division (which took some comically bad management). We've also won 3 trophies, had numerous semi finals as well as European appearances. How long does it have to last before thats the expectation? Even if you look the other way in history, you'd arguably have to go back to the 50's to find a comparable period to the middle part of the 80's. Using it as a standard is total weirdo behaviour. The financial position of the club currently means top tier football should be the absolute minimum of its aims IMO. I'm not saying I'm expecting to never be relegated again but even if we go down the clubs in a position where with better leadership you'd expect to be challenging to come back up.

  38. Charlie Telfer can get himself to f**k btw. There’s no doubt there’s talent there but he’s still a massive shitebag and he only turns up when he wants to and it’s generally against the shite in the league. I’ve no doubt he could go somewhere and be a success but he’s been here 3 years and we’ve yet to have a functional midfield with him in the side. Still never forgiven him for that red card against Raith tbh.

  40. Signs a rapist, fucks off to a shambles of a side in the league below and wants to take Raith’s better players with him - I would be fuming at McGlynn!
    6 points
  41. Firstly, it should be said, I’ve always been a fan of McGlynn and I always think managers should be judged on where the leave the club compared to where they were when they took over. On that front, it can’t be denied McGlynn has done a great job both times he has been our manager. However, losing McGlynn doesn’t have to be a disaster. I think the panic from the fans is a sign of how little we trust the board to get the replacement right more than anything else. Ultimately, if Falkirk are throwing a lot of money at him along with a long term contract, we can’t and shouldn’t be doing that for a manager who has performed the way McGlynn has since January (form and the involvement in that signing). I would have been happy to see him continue on the same terms but his performance in recent months doesn’t justify breaking the bank for him. However, the board surely can’t just line up James McPake as an immediate replacement without interviews and inviting applications as has been rumoured? I appreciate fans are keen for us to get a move on with signings for next season but I’d rather we took a couple of weeks to get the recruitment process correct and appoint the right person rather than rushing into another mistake because of timing. Ray McKinnon was appointed on 23rd May and put together a new squad that finished 4th so it can be done. Yes, we were better after January that season but we were barely out the top 4 even before that. The board have handled this whole thing appallingly but it’s important they don’t panic now and get the next appointment right and don’t compound their mistakes. We have the core of a decent squad signed up, if we get the next appointment right there is no reason next season has to be a mess and we can certainly improve on McGlynn’s last 4/5 months.
