  5. It's not even about whether you could afford him or not. The way your club is being ran, plus the unrealistic expectation of your fans who still struggle to grasp that you're not as big a team as you think anymore, means you'd ultimately ruin him. He'd be wasted at a club like Falkirk. Because the moment there's a rough patch you'd spit the dummy, again, demand change, again, throw silly money at jobbers, again. And your comment proves exactly that. 'We can throw more money at people than other clubs can.' It's arrogant beyond belief. And how's that worked out for you so far? Airdrie's successful run is not solely down to Murray. There's a lot more to it than that. It's a poisoned challis right now. Any sensible manager in a secure job should stay well clear.

  6. Rennie's appointment in mid-December was generally met with a positive reaction. The 6-month contract was viewed as a sensible decision which minimised the risk to the club if things did not work out. He was given a budget in January that outstripped, by a huge margin, any other manager in this league and the majority in the division above. There's nothing in any of that to criticise the board for. It's obviously been a disastrous appointment, but that is with the benefit of hindsight. No-one could realistically have conceived after the 6-0 abomination at Firhill that we would be replacing Sheerin with someone even less suited to the role. But here we are. Where they will deserve plenty of criticism is if, in the face of all available evidence, they decide to retain the management team regardless, when it's screamingly obvious they are not cut out for it. They'll have completely wasted the advantage that the short-term contract gave them. I think a lot of fans are also getting pissed-off at the (not-so) subtle shifting of the goalposts, whereby a manager recruited on a 6-month deal is now apparently tasked with a "long-term turnaround project", which strangely enough is only being referenced after it has become clear that he is spectacularly incapable of beating anyone other than Dumbarton or East Fife. The ridiculous spin of one or two on here does not help that perception. They are fooling no-one. The search for a new management team needs to begin immediately.

  7. Celtic fans eh. Read a point, completely ignore it, then make up their own version to make it sound like they're being personally attacked. I couldn't give a single f**k if someone walked into my house covered in an Irish flag. Celtic make a point of having a kit, or team wear, with those colours on it simply to help continue the Irish v British/Catholic v Protestant/Celtic v Rangers mentality within their supports. Both clubs and fanbases actively encourage and revel in creating a Catholic v Protestant mentality. That is an undeniable fact yet here we are, with 3 Celtic fans claiming that their club putting out an anti-Protestant message in a major kit launch, lyrics within an anti-Protestant song their fans sing, isn't them promoting an anti-Protestant message. Celtic promote themselves as a Catholic/Irish club because its part of the rivalry with Rangers. Rangers promote themselves as Protestant/British because its part of the rivalry with Celtic. Both clubs turn a blind eye to songs their fans sing that promote bigotry/sectarianism as its part of the rivalry. Both clubs sell club wear designed to annoy the other side because its part of the rivalry. Both clubs put out public slogans designed to encourage anti-Catholic/anti-Protestant sentiments as its part of the rivalry. Both clubs get away with it, and the fans get away with it, because theres thousands of mewling wee pathetic boot lickers like you three, on both sides, who'd rather circle the wagons around a bunch of bigots and protect them than understand that you're as big a part of the issue as they are by blocking others from taking action. I guess I'll end up with some bizarre wee history lesson from 150 years ago, or I'll be told I'm the bigot, or some other weirdo deflective bullshit, tbh. Its like a fucking cult.

  10. Ffs. Absolutely no-one expected Rennie to completely 'turn things around' in six months. You'd think Falkirk fans had expectations that he'd come in and go unbeaten for the rest of the season to win the league the way some folk are going on on here. The position the club is in is not a quick fix - everyone is aware of this, it's hard not to be. However, Sheerin was sacked after 16 league games; we sat 4th, 3 points off 4th and 9 points off 1st. By the time Rennie came in after 17 games, we were 12 points off 1st and 4 points off 4th. Undoubtedly a very poor position to be in, but far from unsalvageable, given over half the season was left to play. Indeed, the reason Sheerin was booted was to bring someone in to try to 'salvage' the season. Rennie came in in December, when reaching the play-offs was more than achievable. As others have said, he was appointed on six-month deal, not to fix every single ill at the club, but to get an immediate reaction out of the players. He has brought in some of his own players (including someone on what will likely be the highest wage we've had in years) and also benefited from the return of Dowds. Despite this, from being 12 points off 1st when Rennie came in, it's now 26 points. Queen's Park have also been incredibly inconsistent and there for the taking by any half-competent team, but we've never even looked like overtaking them, and It's highly unlikely we're even going to make the play-offs. Performances have arguably been worse than under Cones (which is a disgrace in itself), and even the teams that he managed to beat (eg. Peterhead, Clyde) are now turning us over. Whatever metric you measure Rennie on, he has failed miserably. I've said it 1000000x times and I'll keep repeating it until people get it - 'stability' isn't an argument to keep someone who obviously isn't up to it. To even be considering the prospect of keeping him on is lunacy, despite the campaign that one or two on here will continue to propagate in his favour.

  13. I wonder what the thousands of young Rangers fans seeing that celebration for the first time are being told it stands for? And the circle will begin anew with the ones told the truth, as their young minds see a Rangers legend, absolutely adored by 50,000 fans, get applauded and cheered for a public symbol of sectarianism. Normalising, and encouraging, it is wrong, but both Old Firm sides, both club and supporter, seems to allow it to continue endlessly to promote the "brand". You're just yet another fine example of why it continues. A "sensible" mind who knows it's wrong, but instead puts his efforts into making excuses for those who don't based on the club you support.

  15. Reports on social media that Orange marchers were spitting in the faces of kids today. A couple of years ago they spat in the face of a priest in Glasgow. I saw them doing their synchronised waddle through Glasgow today and couldn't help but notice their route slithered past as many Catholic churches as possible. I'm all for freedom of expression but this is akin to letting kiddy fiddlers march past schools. It's intimidatory (not so) passive aggression and frankly has no place in the country Scotland aims to become. Should we just bite the bullet and ban them?

  18. Your club literally led with a tagline of "this is our city" at the same time as revelling in being a "Catholic club". Any form of research shows you what those words mean in Glasgow in a Catholic v Protestant context. Your fans still regularly sing "Roamin in the Gloamin" too, which the club does nothing about. That's ignoring the fact that Celtic put as much effort into making sure they have the Irish tricolor on their strip in some form as Rangers do to have Orange in their team wear. Both clubs know the Catholic v Protestant angle makes them money so both promote it. Trying to excuse yourselves from a two way rivalry that's encouraged sectarianism/bigotry from both sides for decades is just a pathetic attempt at pretending its not your problem to solve.

  19. I believe we would have been in the same position regardless if it was Sheerin or Rennie. Sheerin was still getting results against the worst sides in the division as is Rennie. Rennie has had maybe one significant result, the win away to a downbeat Alloa, apart from that? Almost identical to Sheerin, if not worse.

  21. I've now seen a number of comments regarding the 150th strip/badge, and whilst people are entitled to their opinion it is better if it is an informed one. So, to put on record, almost every facet of the 150th Anniversary effort has been 'outsourced' by the DFC Board to a four-person volunteer Steering Committee of which I am a member. Our remit covers replica strips, merchandise, publications, dinners, gala matches, a Hall of Fame intro and a public exhibition. The DFC Board obviously has oversight and approval and is providing seed funding to be recompensed by sales, but the organisation, sourcing and goods are down to ourselves - all I ask is that we are judged on that basis and not on previous history. My particular responsibility has been merchandise and as such a considerable amount of effort had been made to ensure that the gold shading on items is just that, gold. Jordo mentioned the code number and I attach the Pantone reference which was advised to our supplier. However, gold can a very difficult colour to obtain on certain items; polo shirts for example, and the attached file relates to the only manufacturer we could find in a search of almost twenty websites. Similarly, we have drilled down into the yarn colour for the scarves and hats as per the last attachment (see if you can guess which shade was selected....) I hope that demonstrates that 'small details matter' to us too. We're doing this for the love of Dumbarton Football Club the historic institution and we're not looking for plaudits, but how about putting the trademark negativity on hold guys until you actually see the stuff ?

  27. What's needed isn't so much a coach as a man manager. The last one of those we had was Houston, someone who could lead and inspire confidence. Before him, May, Pressley and Holt were all coaches who ultimately couldn't get men to work for them. Hartley's a coach and by all accounts a horrible wee man disliked by many. McKinnon is a rat and the players saw through him. Miller & McCracken were out of their depths. Sheerin and Rennie were/are coaches. We need a manager. We have players who were highly rated at their previous teams - Hetherington and Jacobs for a start - who aren't performing to the best of their ability. We've had players be shit with us and go on to do a good job elsewhere. Dowds was underperforming with us, went to Arbroath and blossomed, came back to us and started regressing again after a bright start. We need a manager. No more bloody coaches. We're in the Third Division. Get a man in who can lead and inspire.

  29. The context of it, which is to bring a religious gesture into a football stadium purely because the set of fans it is aimed at have chosen religion as their vehicle of hate, is very clearly, very obviously sectarian. He is doing it to pander to fans for whom the gesture is synonymous with their chosen brand of bigotry. Anyone arguing against this demeans any semblance of decency they claim to have on the subject. If you outright cannot condemn this sort of pathetic shite because Gazza is one of yours then you just cannot be taken seriously and become part of the problem. Honestly can't believe the wriggling and qualifying you are doing to try and make it OK. Absolutely laughable

  30. The thing is, it doesn’t take a Klopp to win this league. Look at some of the managers that have built a team to win this division in the past. The quality of the teams are, on the whole, pretty poor. With the resources we have (yes, resources are very important), it really shouldn’t take a tactical genius to build a Falkirk side that either wins League One, or at the very least challenges for the title. I think we obviously are in a bad place now, but I don’t buy the argument that it will take years to turn it around. We just keep appointing diddies who make a complete arse of it. In two of our three years in this league, it looks like we won’t even reach the play-offs. It’s fucking criminal.

  32. It's very frustrating for me that we still have fans who think we should be swatting aside teams in this league simply because we are a 'bigger' club. Yes, we pay more than the majority, yes we have a decent history (because that's what it is now) and, yes we have more potential, but we are where we are because we are shit. It's obvious now that we're not going to suddenly start turning teams over because we currently don't have the tools to do it. I think we should let Rennie go at the end of the season (unless there's a miraculous turn around) but whoever gets the job has got to be given time to re-build. That may involve no or little progress on the pitch initially but we must stop this hiring and firing conveyer at some point. Ian Murray, for example, has taken nearly four years to build what he's built. As things stand he wouldn't be given 4 weeks with some supporters on here if the results weren't immediately there. It came as absolutely no surprise to me that Peterhead beat us because they're a decent L1 side who, on their day, can match any side in this division. I wouldn't have been surprised if we'd beaten them either although I would be gobsmacked if we'd managed a win over a Cove or an Airdrie because we're miles behind those teams at the moment. We basically need to wake up and smell the coffee, before having breakfast and moving on to lunch before finally sitting down to enjoy our dinner!

  37. I’m not going to give the new board a hard time as I am aware that they have inherited an absolute mess. I will give them time to turn us around and steady the ship. I do however feel that this summer they are going to have to make a number of decisions that are probably going to be the most crucial in the future of Falkirk FC and they have to get it right. The main decision is going to be who will be the manager. If we are stuck next season with 12/13 of the current squad then it cannot be Rennie as he has already shown that he cannot get them to improve performances. It appears to be that he isn’t commanded the respect a more well known manager in the Scottish game would and the players clearly aren’t bursting a gut for him. I don’t know who the next manager should be and I wouldn’t like to be having to make that decision. I will give the board time and I pray to god they get the big decisions right. The future of our club depends on it. I fear if they make the wrong choice our ST numbers will drop significantly and we can’t afford that.

  45. Good post. I don't think anyone expected Wullie to come in and save us from relegation. The board dithered for far too long before giving AJ his jotters - he should have been punted long before the January transfer window if we were to have a chance of survival but instead when the penny finally dropped with Hewitson & Co the new manager was lumbered with not only the pre-Christmas squad but with AJ's additional January dud signings thrown in to boot. Wullie certainly hasn't been helped by the timing of injuries to Connelly, Cochrane, McGrory and McKay and I am hoping that it is solely down to the enforced absence of those players that we have seen the continued tinkering with formations and personnel that I had hoped we had seen the back of when AJ left. What has been disappointing is that (as I mentioned in today's match thread and RJC alludes to above) since taking over Wullie has repeatedly told the fans about the attacking style of play he wants to see in his interviews, but we are still getting the scrappy hit and hope hoofball and reliance on getting lucky on the break that were the trademarks of AJ's management. It's also a bit mystifying as to why Joseph and Liddle have been seen as starting midfield options in the two most recent games. That said, Gibson's managerial record to date (including the Cove diddy game) is three wins, one draw and four defeats. Not good enough for Northfield obviously but not the worst in the world. So let's give Wullie the rest of this season as a bedding in period where mistakes will be made but can be learned from and a allow him to ditch the deadwood and start with a clean slate and his own squad next season.
