  1. The only stupid one is you, you fucking thick Putinist apologist. The "Ukrainians are Nazis" line is pish of first degree. For a country whose leader is of Jewish descent they are doing an awful shite job of it. Equating the Azov brigade with Ukrainians as a whole is like using Combat 18 as being representative of the UK population or Siol nan Gàidheal being representative of the Scottish nationalist movement. It's utter nonsense.

  5. I think sometimes (with a certain type of player) all this can lead to the effort and commitment problem that you and a few other QP fans talk about. I think the last couple of years there has been an element of this with Falkirk too. Players thinking that they are too good for the league and that their quality will just automatically shine through. Players who haven't spent years at this level can be deceived into thinking the standard is terrible and therefore they just need to turn up, spray passes around and they'll cruise to victories. In reality it's a really tough league, unless you are committed, hard working and up for it you will really struggle. Slow possession based football also gets you absolutely nowhere in this league. As someone mentioned up the thread our improvement this year is down to us looking when possible to play through the lines. We do have long periods of possession but are always looking to be direct and play forward. Any time I've seen QP they seem to just think if they keep the ball long enough something will magically happen. For players with good attitudes it would only be a positive, but for the wrong type of character having the best of everything in terms of facilities and pandering to their every need can just ingrain this idea that they are better than everyone and don't need to put in the graft. Having said all that, QP are by no means out of it. They seem the kind of side who could turn it up a gear in the play-offs if they had extra motivation. Due to the way they play their games are always pretty close in terms of scoreline so it would just take them to have a bit of luck or a good day in front of goal and they would be a threat.

  9. Would disagree entirely with this. Both clubs have had good teams at points over the past decade but neither has nailed it in terms of maintaining an evolution. You don't look at the Motherwell squad now and see the next player that is going to net a big fee and likewise don't see the bedrocks of the team for the next few years. The squad has a short-term feel to it, whatever the contract situation. Saints didn't have the desire/quality to recruit/produce then sell like Motherwell but under Tommy Wright were good at bringing in players that would give you three, four, five years. Although, ironically, it HAS been the development and subsequent sale of a couple of good young players that has really fucked our squad. And what a hell of a money we have squandered since then. Around £2 million banked up front and far too much of it squandered on the wrong type of player. Fir Park is loved. You can see that when you visit. Money is invested in the stadium (and of great relevancy to St Johnstone, the pitch) whereas McDiarmid Park looks as neglected as it probably is. Dirty, scabby and host of other negative words. Motherwell get a bit of stick about the social media stuff but at least it's... something. Saints go through media staff at an alarming rate and the output is in no way engaging. The argument of course is everything becomes irrelevant if you win a couple of cups but actually, it just makes all the other stuff more annoying.

  12. Aye, the idea that it was a poor decision to extend his deal is a complete nonsense. He'd had a good (exceptional?) first calendar year in terms of the turnaround and points collected (and we were sitting 4th in the league). IIRC his original deal expired next year so assuming we were planning on trying to create some sort of culture of stability sorting out a new deal made sense. But he's absolutely fucked this and it's all just very, very weird in so much as it's largely on him and (bad) choices made. He's clearly a capable manager and the squad is good enough but aye, where we are at the moment is mental. As I was posting the other day through 2021 he was broadly picking a relatively settled side and while it may not have been pretty it was largely effective - the results proved that. Since the winter break, for whatever reason, he's stopped playing a bunch of those players - Slattery's gone from 17 starts in 20 league games to not even getting off the bench (hasn't started a game since United at Tannadice February 9th), Woolery 18 starts from 20 to getting chucked on as a sub (he's started 5 of our last 11 league games). I've said before that I get the idea of load management and "using the squad" and that's fine if it's not adversely affecting results but right now It's like some sort of wild self-sabotage.

  22. Embarrassing drivel from DRoss just trying to paint the independence movement as racist and anti-English. Back in the 70s and 80s sectarianism was an absolutely massive problem throughout the country, look at the shockwaves Rangers signing Mo Johnston caused or the abuse players like Mark Walters received back then it’s night and day how attitudes in Scotland have changed in 40 years. The only movement that has been bitter and inward-facing was Brexit which came down to keeping Johnny Foreigner out as “they took our jobs”

  23. After that performance yesterday, it comes to the stage that it may be better for the development of the less experienced and Academy players to be competitive in League one next season than being on the receiving end of a few doings in the Championship. A first season back at Lesser competing for a title rather than a relegation dog-fight is an easier sell when looking to increase fanbase and in keeping with the long-term development of the Club.

  24. I did not go to the dentist for ten years, because I knew that they would give me shit for smoking cigarettes (I stopped five years ago) and drinking a load of fizzy juice. When I finally did go, they said my teeth were nice. No one employed by Ayr United has ever told me that I have nice teeth. And the dentist has never conceded three goals in the space of 16 minutes during a derby match.

  25. yet despite obsessive jingoism, corruption, lies and falsehoods, contradictions, ineptitude and policy u-turns emerging week after week, all under-pinned by the backdrop of economic suicide brought on at their own behest through Brexit (which still causes miles of lorry queues and chaos), the only anger that arises in some remains directed towards the Scottish Government and Nicola Sturgeon

  26. A few pictures from Lesser today, all the remnants of the base layer for the old plastic pitch are gone and the first layer of the base for the new pitch is being laid. The fencing at the North East corner of the ground has been removed to allow vehicles to use that end of the ground for access. Main other work this week appears to be piling work to support the brick wall beside the stand at the North East corner and lots of foundation works at the South East corner of the stadium.

David Wotherspoon was on the show yesterday and for some reason Cowan was quizzing him about his mum's musical preferences, established that she was 62, and proceeded to state confidently that he thought she would have been a fan of someone called Anne Murray, who I assume is some pishy easy listening crooner or some shite. Wotherspoon's answer - "no, she likes the Rolling Stones". Not everyone shares your utterly horrendous musical tastes, Tam.

  28. Leaving the Wagner Group aside, there are many volunteer groups fighting on the separatist side in the Donbas who are far right extremists. There are units of Russian neo-Nazis, various Cossack and Slavic extremists, as well as Serb Chetniks and Hungarian nationalists. Some of the Russian leaders on the separatist side are also fairly extreme nationalists. The Azov Battalion is concerning - they and the other volunteer batallions arose out of the failure of the Ukrainian state in 2014. I'm pretty sure that when the initial fighting began the Ukrainian Army was officially 200,000 strong but could only muster 5,000 troops who could fight. The well trained troops, special operations forces etc, were spread out a lot of them doing security for government ministers and oligarchs and there were persistent issues with equipment, defections etc. In the face of this, the only forces who would go and fight were militias, often privately funded by oligarchs or donations, and these pretty much all had elements of the far right, extreme nationalist groups in them. Once the state reorganised itself it had to come up with a way to deal with these militias - do you disarm them and break them up, giving an advantage to the enemy on the battlefield and creating potential for violence if they resist disarmament? Do you allow them to continue as they are, meaning there's a well armed ideologicially motivated group who could pose a threat to the state? Or do you take the option that Ukraine took, which is to try and integrate them into the military structure and deal with them in that way. Throught this they integrated these units into the command structure to try and control them. Clearly that takes time and there are still far right sympathisers and supporters in the units. While it's a tiny proporition of the Ukrainian army (900 Azov fighters out of 250,000 regular soldiers) it's a concern, it's a propaganda gift and I bet that there are people in Western police forces who are concerned about people going over to fight in the war and coming back radicalised by the far right.

  33. I was dug up on here by a QP fan after the 1-1 draw at home to East Fife months ago for calling our players “shitebags.” I was spot on then and it still applies today. Would happily get rid of 90% of them. As has been said, you can accept a defeat if the players have given their all and simply lost to the better team. Airdrie thoroughly deserved their win yesterday but by all accounts they won’t have had an easier game all season. Pathetic from us.

  34. Here you go lads. Williamson clearly leading with his elbow: Samuels winning the ball: But I'm sure the ref who was excellently positioned for each incident should defer to the views of some fans who were sitting seventy yards away. You should've had a corner in the first half though, tbf.

  35. Disagree. I'm not convinced by a few of those mentioned, but the way we're set up to play helps no-one. We don't play to any of the strengths in our squad. The players are at a disadvantage as soon as we kick off. Add in the clearly lacking confidence and it's understandable many (all?) are underperforming.

  37. As far as the game went, I can't disagree with the majority of what has been said. I thought we struggled a wee bit in the first half, with Peterhead the better team playing the better stuff. Quite rightly changing Taggart back to where he should be, Cawley a bit further up and Howie to left back certainly helped us. Although, in all honesty, given those three and where they started, I don't think there would have been many, if any, who would have had them where they were at the start of the game. Henderson used his pace well in the second half to cause their defenders a few anxious moments. Great save too to tip his shot on to the bar. Good finish for the goal as well. Although they could/should have scored right after that. I'm always impressed by Scougall. Great ability, quick, tenacious and a definite wee bit of quality. I know he's had his injury woes but, unless he's being nursed through games, I think he deserves to finish more of them than he does. All of them put in a shift yesterday and, on the second half versus the first, I think we deserved the win. Thing is, and definitely no patronising intended, when I looked over at the away support yesterday, I doffed my metaphorical cap to those that had made the journey. We all know that it isn't always easy to make what is a 300 mile round trip to see your team - especially when things aren't going too well. But as you're regularly in the Falkirk thread with your horrific 'patter', why don't you take your nonsense over there? You'll fit right in spouting that pish. Not much more to say, except...[emoji2960]

  38. I’m blaming Robinson. He didn’t come in to a St Mirren team in crisis. He came into a St Mirren team who had turned a corner and were grinding out decent results. All he had to do was to come in and not fall over. IMHO he’s come in and fucked things up. He’s not managing these players the way Goodwin was. He’s not adopting the tactics Goodwin was (which saw us improve). He’s not engaging with the support at all the way Goodwin was, and he’s giving Curtis Main starts over other players who actually give a fcuk. He’s tinkered - and for tinkerings sake IMHO. He might prove to be a good appointment, but again, just IMHO, the current odds on that are 40/60. Not impressed so far at all by a manager coming into a club already in a good place.

  41. As it’s ground hop weekend over there I did my own version here. Headed off to Charles Cane Reserve, Prospect (4 min drive) for another Australia Cup tie with SA Amateur Soccer League Saturday Premier A side BOSA (Blackfriars Old Scholars Association) FC at home to State League 2 side Noarlunga United. Missed the first half but Noarlunga led 1-0. BOSA’s league season doesn’t start until April 9, Noarlunga had played 4 league games and in 5th position, W 1 D 4. BOSA had a couple of chances early in the 2nd half but Noarlunga were too strong and ended up winning 5-0. It was a warm night with no wind and was 26.1 C at full time (8.50 pm). Crowd about 120.
