  9. The same folk who are using 'stability' as a buzzword are exactly the same people who said we had to persist with Sheerin for... 'stability', even when it was clear to everyone else by September that he was out of his depth. I've said it 100 times and I'll say it again; stability means f**k all if if there are no signs of progress. I certainly didn't expect Rennie to come in and turn us into a side of world-beaters, but I did expect him to come in, sign some of his own players and set us up in a way that made us more effective than under Sheerin. I actually wouldn't necessarily be averse, or that bothered, in missing out on the play-offs if there was something, ANYTHING, to indicate green shoots of us improving going into next season, but we're seeing very little that is better from his side than we got under Cones, and in some instances, we're getting worse (eg. inability to beat Clyde away or Peterhead at home). He is here for 6 months and he has to earn the right to be here next season. If he doesn't improve us at all, surely he hasn't earned that right and we have to look elsewhere? Arguing for keeping someone because 'change = bad' isn't an argument. Arguing for keeping a poor manager, just because we might appoint someone even worse, isn't an argument.

  12. Ujpest 2-1 Puskas Akademia Great weekend away in Budapest with my mates, first time out the UK since pre-covid (since my last trip to Budapest funnily) and another stadium to add to the list. Ticket cost around £6 and pints of Borsodi inside for about £2. Lovely wee stadium but couldn't have been anymore than 1500-2000 in attendance. Ujpest went into this joint 2nd bottom which is the relegation zone so a big 3 points for them. Puskas on the other hand are 2nd, but this defeat couple with Ferencvaros' win over Kisvarda last night sees them trail the top by 5 points. Not a great game but Ujpest certainly the better team and thoroughly deserved their win. Puskas took the lead with a good free kick strike in the first half, but Ujpest levelled pretty quickly, and won it 20 minutes from the end with a cracker of a left foot strike right in front of us.

  13. It's taken Murray 4 seasons to take Airdrie to 2nd place yet folk think he'd come in and fix it straight away and if not, he should be given two feckin seasons. He wouldn't get two games! This is the very reason why McCall stated that he wouldn't come back. Rennie's said himself that 'this is what a rebuild looks like' or words to that effect and he's got plenty of experience in that regard. His overall record is much better than Murray's too. Of course we all want a manager to come in and turn us into Barcelona instantly but it's very obvious that that isn't going to happen, no matter who the manager is.

  15. Time for a little update, well I think so, so please join me Highland League Well it hasn't quite gone to plan for Fort William since my last update - their six-pointer against Strathspey Thistle fell victim to the elements and narrow defeats to Wick, Clach and last weekend to Lossie leave them sitting still on two points, while Turriff United have found some form at the right time, picking up five points, including a 6-0 win at Deveronvale and a draw against Formartine. This should be enough now for them to survive. The only saving grace for Fort, is that Strathspey Thistle are still only eight points ahead having also picked up nil point in the last month. The next month's fixtures are as follows: Date Fort William Strathspey Thistle Turriff United 9th Mar Nairn County (A)* ---------- ------------ 12th Mar Formartine Utd (A)* Turriff United (H) Strathspey Th (A) 16th Mar Forres Mechanics (A) Clachnacuddin (H) Rothes (H) 19th Mar Turriff United (A)* Brechin City (H) Fort William (H*) (hasn't been officially reversed yet) Both sides have 26th March free, so it could be used as the date for the six-pointer. Fort need to at least beat Turriff in this run-in as well as find a point from somewhere else and hope the Speysiders don't pick up any points at all, to even have a chance of staying in touch into April. North Superleague Well this is nicely all done and dusted as Banks O'Dee confirm their title victory for what may be their last league title for a few years, and more importantly confirm that there will indeed be a promotion/relegation play-off for the very first time. Place your bets now on who wins that title next season (if BOD are playing HL football). North Caledonian In my last round-up I said "Loch Ness aren't due to play for a month" but they've played two very important matches in that time, a victory over Alness United, and a 2-3 defeat to Invergordon in the top of the table clash. Which keeps the league very intriguing, unfortunately, it looks like Golspie Sutherland's title and promotion challenge is over as they are 11 behind Loch Ness with only four games remaining. As mentioned Invergordon beat Loch Ness 3-2 and backed that up with a 4-2 win over Thurso to cut the gap to four points, with a game in hand over the leaders. With both sides unlicensed, it doesn't affect a promotion, but could be key for Scottish Cup qualification for next season, as well as the bragging rights of the league title. Halkirk United also have a small chance of winning the title but would need to win all of their final six games. Fixtures for the next month (although this was wrong last month): Date Loch Ness Invergordon Halkirk United 12th Mar Halkirk Utd (A) Bonar Bridge (H) Loch Ness (H) 19th Mar -------- Nairn Colts (A) Inverness Athletic (H) 23rd Mar -------- ------------ Golspie Sutherland (A) 26th Mar Tain St Duthus (A) Halkirk Utd (H) Invergordon (A) A couple of big games in there with Saturday possibly providing Invergordon the chance to be in pole position for the league title if results go their way. A very exciting end to the season up North. Midlands League A big shift this weekend with Carnoustie Panmure finally leading the standings as they had an excellent last few weeks, that saw them put 15 past a woeful Lochee Harp outfit and better Coupar Angus, Kirrie Thistle and Arbroath Victoria. Despite wins over Blairgowrie and Downfield, surprise leaders East Craigie's 25-match unbeaten run came to end on Saturday as they lost out 1-0 to Lochee United at Thomson Park, a result that the 'Chee needed to keep their slim hopes of the league title and promotion alive. Lochee United were victorious over Violet and Downfield before Saturday's important 1-0 victory. If the Shipbuilders and Lochee United win their games in hand over Panmure - the three sides will be separated by six points, with the top two level pegging. Fixtures Date Carnoustie Panmure East Craigie Lochee United 12th Mar Letham (H) Lochee Harp (H) Broughty Ath (H) 19th Mar Dundee North End (H) Broughty Ath (H) Coupar Angus (A) 26th Mar Blairgowrie (A) In Cup Action Brechin Victoria (H) Anything less than 9 points for Panmure would be a disaster. While Craigie should run up a cricket score against Harp, the Ferry game will be very tricky and a loss in that could allow Panmure to build up a nine-point lead. Lochee United have a must-win game against Broughty next weekend (which I hope to get to) they will need to win every game from now to the end of the season and hope others slip up. It could be a very exciting end to the season. TL;DR - Banks O'Dee in Playoff, Lochee United have a very slim shot of joining them; winners will almost certainly play Fort William, unless they can start picking up wins.

  21. Some of these comments do make me laugh, “Murray would get 2 attempts at a rebuild” we’ve barely given a manager half a season in the last 5 years without calling for his head. Genuinely how long do people think we should be given to turn around 10 years of malaise at our club. We’re starting to write off a new board after less that 3 months and whilst i agree that Rennie may not be the answer, he’s only been in role for 3 months. People need time to build a proper side, of the 6 we’ve signed in the winter window, you could argue that 5 are an improvement but its a lot more difficult to turn a team who has been losing a lot around. Genuinely not trying to provoke an argument but surely we need to reach a point of stability at some point?

  25. I'm very much of the opinion that there's very few politicians from which I want to hear their pontificating on the rights and wrongs of a no fly zone. Any such zone would be implemented by a NATO coalition. Scotland, as an entity, as represented by Nicola Sturgeon, doesn't really have any skin in the game. Leave this to the high command of the various armies involved tbh. Thats the civilised version of what I think. Less so, just shut the f**k up Nicola, your contribution is about as helpful as that of Liz Truss, which is quite the achievement.

  28. 2 home games midweek v Hamilton and Partick Thistle. 2 Friday night TV games against the team that would take the largest away crowd through here. No derby to speak of in this division and yet..... we are only 165 people a game off being the 4th best supported team in the second tier. This is great.

  30. Trying to look at it objectively a few days later, we had plenty chances on Saturday to bury Clyde. We're certainly creating more clear cut chances than we were previously. The sh*te bag midfield cost us again (along with the subs). Rennie could yet come good but he needs to learn fast and I was optimistic we were getting a manager who was experienced enough not to make some of the mistakes he has made already.

  31. Wee Kevin should get a testimonial if it is up to me . I know he left us for one season to go to to Dunbarton but his service to us since he signed in 2011 has been terrific. It's been a wretched season and it may be a route to getting the fans involved and to build bridges after the Ferguson era . Loyalty is seldom seen in football now and perhaps worth considering rewarding. Even a preseason game against a touring English team or indeed a Scottish club that would bring a crowd should be considered. An absolute majestic Wasp . Owen

  36. Saturday could / should have been a 4 or 5 - 1 victory. Even if it had turned out that way the elephant in the room would still have been there, the lack of physicality in midfield. Gomis had outrageous amounts of space to run the game for Clyde in the second half and of course their equaliser came from our complete inability to win a tackle in midfield. The failure for whatever reason to bring in someone to do the dirty work in there is killing us and could well be Rennie’s undoing.

  37. Since our inception in 1994 we have achieved a lot over that short time and we have had our peaks and troughs, Foran, and yes our expectations are maybe higher than they should be, be that as it may, what for me is the worst is our standard of football, balls all over the place with passes to the opposition and a defence as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. For instance we bossed that second half against Partick and yet if we had played another 90 minutes we would never have scored and then they whistle a ball right through our defence, and that's how it's been game after game. Up until the Gardyne fiasco we had a game of sorts with a run of 1-0 wins now we have draws and defeats. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark as we have good players in our team yet they are not turning in performances, look if we lose games on a 3-4 basis we know that we turned in a good game hopefully and they have done their best but this situations is terrible to watch. There was a time, pre Dodds and Co, when teams were wary of playing us in Inverness, now...................................................................................... Good Luck with Arbroath, exciting times for you and overall it is good for Scottish Football when teams like yersels are doing so well.

  43. Do we need stability? Absolutely. Does that mean you just keep in place any old manager or squad despite massive under performance and huge questions about their ability to do their job? Of course not. To keep someone in the job whose clearly not good enough just to provide ‘stability’ is absolute madness.
