  1. It’s weird. I remember when my own club was at risk of a similar fate. I and many others saw liquidation as the end. Who knew that we could just reform as a completely new football club and just pretend we were the same entity. All that worry over nothing.

  2. I mind the tabloids were running full back pages claiming that, at minimum, half of the SPL clubs would be dead within weeks after Rangers died. For clarity, here is the full list of clubs that died, which I will list in alphabetical order: Rangers

  3. The only downside was Celtic fans trying to get in on the fun and thinking we were all pals. We want your club dead too.

  8. This is good because we’re getting the st Mirren meltdown about Jim Goodwin without actually having to appoint him.

  11. That day on here man, that day on here. Bu the time you'd caught up with the latest posts on the BRALT there were dozens, sometimes scores more, had been made. It was utterly magnificent. And yes, @Kyle Reeseeverybody, literally everybody, including 100% of Rangers fans, knew liquidation meant the end of the club. The Great Lie came later.

  15. Goodwin would be a great appointment. I think his achievements have maybe flown under the radar a bit, but taking a club the size of St Mirren to 7th place last season is very impressive. Up there with Leicester in 2016 or Greece winning the Euros for me.

  16. Interview questions for new hire: 1-What sort of player plays in the full back positions? (if they say "full backs" , go to q2, if not, thank them for their time) 2-what's better, goals or possession? (if "goals" , proceed) 3-how do you say definitely? (if "definately" punch in face and throw out, otherwise proceed) If more than one candidate remains, hire the one with the best name.

  17. I don’t know who that oddball was but he seems like an inspired choice Instead of ensuring things are seen to be above board by getting someone beyond reproach to do the cup draw the SFA have instead recruited a human being so transparently inadequate in every respect that the idea of him being part of any nefarious plot is ludicrous

  19. Yes, the Armageddon stuff was utterly groundless. Gates did not really suffer at all, apart from at their sister club. Until Rodgers, who was appointed because Rangers had eventually reached the top flight by then, trophies were better shared than they'd been in decades with some clubs bagging their first Cup in generations, while others secured their first ever. The demise of Rangers dented Celtic and was directly good for our domestic game.

  20. People surely cannot be pitching Jim Duffy as a potential candidate, even on a short-term basis! His Dumbarton side was one of the most brutal, heinous teams I've ever seen! As many others have said, it surely has to go to Andy Graham for the time being. I've long suspected the big man has a sterling managerial career ahead of him and that begins today.

  22. What are you struggling with here, exactly? The board have cost the club a lot of money (transfer fee, c£150k in wages, loss of sponsorship) and burned its reputation on a player that will not kick a single ball for us. Do you really expect people to just forget about that? And what about the club's leadership? There have been two very short statements released since the signing was made; a double down and then a mealy-mouthed climbdown two days later. In the meantime we've dodged the press as much as we realistically can and sent the Manager out for the Celtic presser, who had to address the matter. Meanwhile, the board remains in hiding; it's utter cowardice. The decision made has caused the club a large amount of harm that isn't going to be resolved in the short term. All the money made from last night's cup tie will be going straight into David Goodwillie's pocket. Money that could have done the club a lot of good will instead be given to a man ruled to be a rapist and who has not paid his victim a penny. We could have boosted the playing budget, conducted work on the stadium etc. Hell, we could even have reduced some of the club's debts by paying down the stadium mortgage or giving the directors some of their money back. But no, that won't be happening. No-one is seriously suggesting we get Sim out. What has been advocated is diluting his stranglehold on the club and attempting to replace some of the board members that made this dreadful decision. You're entitled to your viewpoint if you want to forget about it all, but I won't forget it. The damage they have caused the club is unforgivable and I have no confidence in the current board to properly manage the club. And all from a totally avoidable situation as well. Change is needed.

  24. I do have a certain sympathy for the argument that says Rangers fans wouldn't have been able to save the club in 2012. The debt was so large and owed to the one body with the muscle to not do a deal, that the old club's fate was sealed. That's not the same as saying I've any sympathy for Rangers fans though. For the reasons outlined in WRK's excellent post, what happened was met with absolute glee by fans of other clubs. The purchased 'success' had been greeted with such arrogant triumphalism. The belt tightening had been greeted with demands based on 'deserving better'. The descent was greeted with lashing out and warnings about 'sinking others'. That's what made it so bloody joyous. The 'journey' back also offered more hilarity than might have been expected, with defeats to tiny clubs, the big tax case finally going against them and a year's stalling in the second tier. Genuine good came of it as well, with the demise of the SPL with its absurd financial distribution model, ground criteria, and 1 up; 1 down. It was bound to end some time and that it has and the duopoly is back just provokes a shrug over its inevitability. I'm delighted it ever happened though. The SPL then SFL clubs' votes that summer were tremendous, with most (alas not all) clubs getting it right. I am sorry, however, that title stripping never happened. It absolutely should have.

  25. Every time you see those goals, man. What a statement win that is. Delighted for Gal to get two good goals, one a sublime strike, the other a great bit of improv (after a gorgeous cross from Easton) from a man who often hits form at the right time for us. Brody Patterson looks like yet another excellent loan find under Murray, Dycey and Kerr were excellent (bar the one silly challenge for the penalty) and Watson stepped in very well, taking his first goal with great gusto. What a hit. Smith worked hard and was unlucky not to make the early Patterson cross in the first half and to be denied by an excellent tackle in the second after Gal played him in brilliantly. Maybe should have hit it first time. His work rate and pace gave them something to worry about all day, though. Wasn't even Frizzell's best game but he still put in a power of work, played well and scored a header, of all things. Huge marker laid down and Cove having another wobble was a welcome wee boost, even if many of us seen it coming given the QP propensity for a draw. Another favour from Falkirk next week and we really are cooking. Win these next two games and what a start to 2022 it would be. The players, the manager and the staff all deserve huge credit for the form we're showing. Hopefully we get a decent crowd in for the next home game. A win in Peterheid will hopefully set that up further. They deserve a good backing. Looking ahead, March is set to be some month. You can tell the squad believe. I know I do. Bring it on.

  36. Rangers being liquidated was a once in a lifetime opportunity to end the duopoly and make impactful change in Scottish football. It was good that almost every club got to give them a kicking at least once or twice during "the journey" but the fact we're near enough back in exactly the same place with the two of them entrenched at the top of the league and with an effective veto over any administrative or structural change is depressing.

  38. Your "run of the mill fan"* could have: 1. Not "demanded better", like you know, actual run of the mill fans who realise success isn't a right, 2. Questioned where the money was actually coming from to buy the likes of Flo, 3. Listened when a few voices were warning of financial troubles years before they finally died, 4. Dismissed the likes of Chris Graham (?) and Mark Dingwall as the ranting, stupid bigots they undoubtedly are/were, and perhaps most importantly, 5. Not dismissed any negative news coming from Ibrokes as some kind of p*pish, f****n, T**g conspiracy mounted through jealousy of the Glorious Queen's XI.** *Is that the same as the "decent majority" who don't even know the words to any of those nasty songs? ** I would say RIP, but f**k'em. They were a disgraceful institution, and the fact that so many have colluded in the Big Lie either through fear of retribution or through pursuit of the Bloo (and Green) Poond is a disgraceful stain on the Nation.

  40. Are they still wearing black and red scarves? All the language coming from Rangers and their supporters was aggressive towards all the governing bodies in football and government, all the other clubs, all the other fans, etc etc. They were banking on a billionaire coming in and getting it right up everyone else. All the demonstrations were about everyone "being out to get Rangers" with language like "enemies" being used freely. There was nothing constructive. No serious plans to unite and at least try and do a Foundation of Hearts type thing. Of course the likelihood is that Hearts learnt from their behaviour and saw what was needed between themselves. The vast majority of the Rangers fans' groups that have sprung up since then have been on the spectrum from ineffective to downright shady, with some real vermin involved.

  41. I don't think it is though. You have a massive fanbase, both here and in places with a hefty Scots diaspora. If Rangers had went down the route of a model similar to the Foundation of Hearts, then they would have had hundreds of thousands of supporters there to pump money in. If people like King, Alastair Johnston, Park and others had offered to put up the money in advance, and let the massive supporter base pay them back, it would have worked. They were nowhere to be seen at that point though. Instead you ended up with carpet-baggers posing as well-intentioned saviours.

  42. I remember the day well actually. I was working in a house in Perth, I was at the time serving an apprenticeship in joinery and was tasked with insulating a loft extension with another apprentice. The 2 of us nipped into the loft with a radio and we’re discussing the impending financial crisis at Rangers in the way you’d expect 2 19 year olds with no brains too. However the radio was on Radio 1, and we missed the announcement. My boss put his head up to tell us it was break time and asked if we’d heard the news about Rangers. I almost fell through the loft howling with laughter, came straight on here to a sight of absolute fucking chaos, made only better by the one Rangers fan on sight bursting into tears screaming that “it’s no fair”. I went home that night in absolute fits of laughter at all the Perth glory hunters in blue having a meltdown.
