  4. It's a ridiculously short sighted measure IMO. Will it make any difference to the spread of Omicron? More than likely not. Will it put extra pressure on hospitality business that desperately don't need that? Yes. I really do not like the way sweeping statements (and essentially restrictions) can now be dropped on a whim, with nothing to back them up, which have far wider consequences than at first glance. I don't own a hospitality business, but if I did i'd be absolutely fuming at the vital revenue this statement will remove. Normalisation of interference in everyday life can absolutely get to f**k. Covid might not have fucked off, but neither is it anything like an emergency. I do not understand the widespread acceptance of this type of nannying.

  5. Yes, many thousands upon thousands of people will follow whatever restrictions the arseholes in Holyrood / Westminster throw at us. Earlier today I was at the gym, was sitting with a coffee in the cafe. The aqua aerobics class ladies were there ahead of their Christmas outing trip to see Les Miserables. Maybe twenty or so of them, ladies of ‘a certain age’. Twenty of them sitting around four tables they had pushed together, loudly yakking away, pretty much in each other’s faces. One of them gets up from the table, walks past me to the bar area to get a coffee, a biscuit or something. A distance of maybe fifteen feet. Two of her pals suddenly scream, and I mean literally scream ‘Sadie! Your mask!’. Sadie, suddenly realising she’s at the bar without a mask on, throws her hands up in the air, and sprints, actually starts running, the fifteen feet back to the table full of loudly chatting ladies, to grab her mask, slap it on, and head the fifteen feet back to the bar again. With a coffee in hand, she goes back to the table, as her pals say something like ‘You have to wear your mask once you leave the table Sadie!’ Sadie mumbles apologies and says she’ll remember the next time. This is how the government have people behaving now. The actual fcuk sake. No-one, not the gym staff or anyone like me sitting around, would have given a flying fcuk that Sadie had the temerity, the sheer bloody cheek, to get up maskless, and walk fifteen feet for a cuppa’. Her pals though… it’s mental, absolutely bloody mental. So, aye, the Sadies and pals of the world will do whatever they’re told, it’s the rules.

  7. Regardless of the parties at Downing Street, people are adhering less and less to the guidance. NS told Scots to work from home till mid-January. I don't know anyone who has followed that. People who had gone back to the office a few days per week (including my wife) have continued to do that - simply put, the benefits of being around people outweigh the fears of the virus amongst a group of triple-jagged people. Nobody wants to be locked in the house again. If they bring in a Christmas lockdown, many will not follow it. I won't - I'm visiting my parents at Christmas, regardless of any announcements between now and then.

  12. And there, hidden within an absolute turd of a post, we have the explanation. You view a barely living virus as being responsive to your stupid wee morality play. It must be someone's fault that I have to put up with this! It's a shame that this is not how the epidemiology of an infectious respiratory disease actually plays out.

  29. Wishful thinking? We have vaccines. What more can we do? Time to either live your life or hide away from something that's mutating like every other respiratory illness. People have been brainwashed to treat everyone like a leper or "feel safe" because they're wearing a wee patterned face mask from poundland. If people want to hide away so be it, but that's not living imo

  30. "Reports of my death have been greatly slightly exaggerated" Although my wife did say "You gave everyone a bit of a scare" For those of you who haven't got 45 minutes to spare, skip to the end. Thanks to all who asked after me and sent messages, special thanks to @welshbairn who wrote me a letter, much appreciated. It all started on Saturday 6th November, when we were to go for our covid booster, and I decided not to take it as I thought I was starting a cold, and I was still swithering about getting it when my wife and daughter were in getting theirs, but decided against it, which is probably just as well as the way I felt on Sunday would probably have initially been put down to the covid reaction. Sunday I had great difficulty breathing and it just got worse as the day wore on, I had absolutely no energy. My wife got concerned when I couldn't walk from the hall chair to the living room a distance of some 5 steps, she finally got me oxtered into the living room. She kept saying "Do you want me to get the doctor?", and I just sat there flapping my hands and going "No, no. no", so she realised I was going to be of no help and phoned the doctor on call and was told he would ring back in 4 hours, so she immediately phoned an ambulance. I can vaguely remember the ambulance man being in the living room, but have no recollection of my stepdaughter, a granddaughter and a neighbour who is a nurse also being there. The last thing I remember is lying in the ambulance with my wife looking in the door (stepdaughter and granddaughter were also there but all I remember is my wife) and the ambulance man talking to me "Stay with me buddy, keep talking" or words along those lines when they want you to stay conscious. The next thing I remember is coming to in a side ward of the E&A in Antrim hospital with a chest drain in and catheter in, having lost about 5 hours. My wife says the doctors were very good, ringing every couple of hours to inform her of progress. I had a collapsed lung. Then I was whipped off to a ward where I was constantly getting blood samples taken, iv drips, saline drips, blood pressure taken and hooked up to the oxygen machine, I was pretty ropy for a couple of days. However, things began to improve and after over a week I started to eat, I put the loss of appetite down to the medication, saline drips and stress. X-rays, scans, ultra sounds - you name it I got it, treatment was first class. The first Saturday I was in the chap in the next bed decided to bless us all with his jug of water which he had made holy water and I got soaked, along with the doctor on call and 3 of the nurses. The doctor was a bit annoyed about it and asked "Why did you bless that man and him not even a catholic?", I asked how she knew that (it was likely on my notes) and she more or less said I didn't look like one, so maybe there is something to the old trope about the eyes being too close together after all @LongTimeLurker. I think the poor chap was out of his head on medication, he was very apologetic in the morning, but I don't think he remembered very much about it. Another night 3 members of staff had to restrain another patient, who would not stay in bed, he was trying to remove his cannula plus he was hooked up to oxygen and had a catheter in, he could have done himself serious damage. Eventually they got him injected with something and he calmed down. I drifted off to sleep but woke in the middle of the night to see his bed was gone. Moved to ICU. Or so they said... They have a funny way of telling you things - "Do you know you've got an irregular heart rhythm, Mr Jacksgranda?". Well I do now, God knows how long I've had that, they must have picked it up from the ECG. I went in on 3 inhalers and a nasal spray, and came home on 3 inhalers, a heart tablet, fluid tablets (they are deadly, up at the toilet every half hour), a blood thinning tablet and antibiotics. Got the chest drain out after 4 days and made steady progress, but every time I was to get home there was another setback - my temperature went through the roof the afternoon before I was to get home so that knocked that on the head, I could have got home but with the district nurse coming in to administer an iv antibiotic but I didn't fancy that, and then yesterday they decided to keep me one more day, but the consultant was very pleased with my progress this morning and was happy with the ultra sound, so that was me on the road, can't say I was sorry, I know I was in the right place but it was a bit wearisome at the end up. What can you say about the staff? Consultants, doctors, nurses, ancillary staff, cooks, cleaners, porters, ambulance men - magnificent. The things they have to do (especially the nurses). Cleaning shitey arses, fetching the commode, emptying urine bottles and catheter bags, changing beds, reassuring anxious and fractious patients (including this one) and relatives, cutting up food, feeding patients, administrating drugs, taking blood pressure and checking oxygen levels all the while with the highest degree of compassion, empathy and professionalism, constantly n their feet, all with the threat of covid hanging over them, every MP, MLA and MSP etc should be made to shadow an NHS person's shift (I mean the whole 13 hours, not just a smiley 10 minute facebook post Our wonderful NHS staff), maybe then something would get done about proper funding and training. The Indian nurses are the best, such gentle natures. Finally I'm home after 4 weeks and 3 false starts. TL/DR As I've already said my wife said "You gave us all a bit of a scare" but I'm all right now, thanks to the incomparable NHS.

  31. Ten days isolation if you come into contact with omicron which data suggests is a less severe strain but you can test and release if youre double vaxxed and its the more severe delta strain? Triple vaccinated, no adult conversation, two years of life with massive restrictions, politicians and public health figures flaunting the rules in Scotland and England yet we’ve all to be good little boys and girls. Absolutely f**k this.

  37. I really don't think he would come, but it would be excellent to get him. It's not just the drop down in level that is the problem, it is working under Holt. I don't think he would consider that for a minute. RIghtly so. Until we empty Holt that is seriously going to hamper our chances of getting anyone half decent and experienced in.

  39. Going right back to Coyle and McInnes, I think you've always managed to call who would get new deals and who wouldn't. If anything, you've been surprised at players who haven't (e.g. Cregg, Hasselbaink) or even guys that maybe weren't great but were actually released early (e.g. McDonald, Paton). This is so far the other way and I'm pretty staggered. I could get behind extending the Crawford loan until the summer given the vacancy created in the squad with Wotherspoon's injury but a two-year deal? Just ridiculous. The other player he is talking about is MacPherson. A player who has shown absolutely nothing in his 7 appearancea to merit a permanent contract. That would be an atrocious piece of business. Think I'll have made up my mind about this manager come 31 January.

  40. Don't get this, maybe situation didn't suit last time, job I'm in just now I was offered before and turned it down, doesn't mean I work less hard now, if it was straight choice between Rice or McIntyre, I'd bite my own hand off for McIntyre,, I think Rice has disaster written all over it, nothing to do with his personal problems, he was awful for Hamilton and there fans were wanting him out for ages

  48. What's the point of a new board, fans getting involved etc if we're not going to advertise the manager's job and go through the candidates? We're supposed to be changing from the boardroom down and yet would be giving the job to Rice without going through due process, exactly what we did with Hartley. If we were to advertise, interview etc and Rice gets the job then fair enough but basically a coronation doesn't sit right, if that's what happens. I see the FSS are having a night in behind the goals on monday to meet and discuss with the new board members, might ask about manager's job then if I can get along and it hasn't been done already!

  50. We're really never getting out of this are we? 22 months in and despite the vast majority being double/triple dosed restrictions and vaccine mandates still rear their ugly head. The worst thing people did was accept "3 weeks to flatten the curve" and swallowed the lie that vaccines were the way out of this. All for something with the average age of death being 80+. Mindblowing and the worst part of it all is some people still believe the lies politicians tell them and lap up the threat of more restrictions. I hated society before but even more so now with all the division and wanting family members to take LFT tests before Christmas dinner. Heads have gone
