  1. Whilst on the subject of commentary, have a listen to the wonderful Ian Dennis on Radio 5 Live from the other night. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00128vw 42.30 onwards. The roar in the background is spinetingling. I haven't commented on the game, because I can't frankly. It's the best performance I've ever seen from Scotland to a man and, after a tough couple of weeks personally, I'll admit to having a wee blub when Che scored the second. Total fucking euphoria.

  2. There's no better example of how polarised and dogged public political support has become over the past few years than how people react to things in this thread. When I went to my first gig in two years last week I had to use my vaccine passport to get in and I was told to wear a mask the whole time I was inside. It seemed like much of the audience did although I physically couldn't - I would have been whiteying everywhere if I hadn't. I don't think masks make any meaningful difference to anything. I think the contexts in which we're supposed to wear them are contradictory and self-defeating. The idea of having to wear them in a crowded indoor space for a few hours at a time is ludicrous to me. If someone thinks they make a difference and wants to wear one, fine. Go ahead. I don't think vaccine passports are an appropriate measure for a democratic country to introduce. Aside from the issues with eligibility when the scheme was launched for people who hadn't had two vaccines, aside from them requiring various other objects to acquire one, aside from the increasingly large age ranges being prompted for a third vaccination and the inherent point that apparently within three months my passport is going to show that I'm not really protected against anything, the very notion of them is insidious. Why should we willingly have to show state-issued papers to go anywhere? How easy is it for the state to track the movements and habits of the entire adult population? I can use it, and I will, but as I've posted before I'm not going to vote again for any party/individual responsible for their existence. And yet, it's impossible to try and put this point across. Everyone on this thread who complains about restrictions and excessive caution is extremely pro-vaccine. They're extremely eager to be as free from Covid as they can be, and for everyone else to be too. They think there is a level of caution which goes beyond that and becomes restrictive, and are frustrated there isn't any suggestion of it ever mentioned by... anyone, as far as I can tell. The press certainly doesn't and if they're not holding the politicians to account then nobody is. The problem comes with trying to separate that. Nobody can. I've said what I think about vaccine passports. Yet when I went to that gig there were some gimps outside with a big banner about vaccine passports on it. I didn't look at them for long but I saw "Bill Gates" on it and knew immediately that they weren't worth interacting with. Yet, to the Welshbairns and the moustaches of this world, I'm a petulant child and a complete moron because everyone who doesn't think the way they do is wrong. The worst part about the sanctimonious p***ks on this thread who take great delight in laughing at people who've done all they can and get made to do more isn't that the polls suggest they exist in some sort of majority approval of things the Scottish government does, it's that they're completely unable to see the shite they post in here is exactly what they accuse the people they disagree with of doing.

  3. For me, Scotlands divergence from England is quite simply a case of Sturgeon et al refusing to allow it to become effectively the govt stance that they no longer give a f**k about case numbers. Firstly because they cant square it with their "care more" mantra, and secondly because, and this is my opinion, they think the scum cant be trusted and need to be nannied.

  5. Simon Kjaer is one of the world's best centre backs and he barely put a foot wrong the other night. If anything, watching the highlights, he might have been the Dane's best player. Yet he was still absolutely fucking owned by Ché Adams. This wisnae a case of an off-night for Denmark. They were jist fucking telt. Magic.

  7. What will locking people up for a maximum of three months do, other than cost the taxpayer. Can the be rehabilitated to stop their "offending"? Probably not. Are they a danger to wider society? No. Prison is not where they should be and the government is using the criminal justice system for political posturing.

  13. Bringing it back to McCoist's commentating... yes he loses it a bit and goes mental at Scotland goals but, after that move, he spent just as much time lauding Kjaer as he did the pass and header. Same with Schmeichal's stop in the first half. I can forgive the "unprofessionalism" in the heat of the moment because he still calls it down the middle afterward.

Again - World Cup Qualification - nobody gives a f**k about the weather! 3. Most of us are hoping to get the shitest opponents possible - they're not the selling point FFS.

  18. Remember that the bald fraud was telling us vaccine passports didn't work just over a week ago, now they're going to help people live normally and save Christmas. Meanwhile, the number of cases (since this remains a concern of the Scottish Government) has remained pretty flat. In the meantime, let's demand the heavily-vaccinated adult population have to show their QR code or piece of paper to enter indoor venues whilst thousands of unvaccinated school children are put in confined spaces together five days a week. Remain bewildered as to why the number of cases in the under 20s remains very high, especially in those under 14. But, above all, be sure to use these cases in children to bash the adult population as the unvaccinated must be punished even though they are a very small minority.

  19. Can I just shock you? I don't actually mind Derek Ferguson. Yes he comes across a bit dim, but at least he actually has a fairly decent idea what he's talking about and has a decent knowledge of the teams and the players he's paid to talk about, especially in the Championship. I concur with previous posts. Alan Preston is an absolute p***k and I really don't know what he brings to the show. Also, I enjoy Michael Stewart. I don't always agree with him, but he's a good listen.

  21. As an example, on Sunday the odds are good that the squad will take to Hampden with Jermaine Defoe as caretaker manager and Morelos leading the line, yet their faith (and/or race) has absolutely no bearing on whether they’ll be backed. I’ve not seen a single reference to it at all, pro or anti. The discussion on Bassey over Borna has rested on nothing other than fitness and current form. Yet, ‘remember that time 25 years ago when a ref made a shit decision’ is apparently a) pertinent and b) recent enough and c) an excuse to start posting sectarian slurs.

  24. It is perfectly possible for people to have a well functioning mind and to have values which most of us find difficult to understand. Some people value money more highly than other people's lives. Some people value their own religious principles above other people's lives. It doesn't make them mentally ill. The flip side of saying that most suicide bombers must be mentally ill is an implication that mentally ill people are more likely to be terrorists. Now i'm not an al queada general or anything but i'd probably prefer my bombers to not be at risk of just wandering off or being unable to get out of bed. I'm sure the placid majority of mentally ill people appreciate the extra stigma from the ill informed armchair psychiatrists.

  25. You are always telling us that if you want something done you have to do it yourself. You are all talk and no action. If you want the power to switch between one universe and another then go and get it. There is no point waiting for someone else to do it all for you. Just my opinion.

  26. Whilst some responses are, there is, quite rightly, a lot of a anger. Vaccine passports are a complete anathema to me - to extend them takes us further into breaching civil liberties. Apart from that it is also completely unworkable and just rank stupidity. Businesses in the hospitality sector are struggling as it is - there isn't even a scientific argument to justify it - economy-wise it is completely unjustified. And no surprise that the most useless minister in history is the one driving this bullshit agenda.

  38. Tbh this ‘we may have to’ hint hint stuff can f**k right off. Either they’re going to extent passports or they’re not- just stop with the threats. We know that boosters for those who need them are by far the best way to ‘protect the NHS’. Why not focus on getting them rolled out as quickly as possible to as many people as possible rather than pointless theatre?

  39. Can we talk about how much of a bullshit rule this is btw? When a national association enters their team into an international competition, it should be on the understanding that they might well be drawn against any of the other entrants. If they’re too snowflake to play against their enemy countries then boot them both out.

  44. Smashing post and I can definitely think of a few sanctimonious p***ks of the type you refer to, I'm actually even more pro vaccine than they are - I hated Devi and others playing down the vaccine for their own warped ends - yet I stick out like a sore thumb because I don't have some weird fantasy about how best to punish people who don't do what I'd encourage them to do re the vaccine. If it comes up in the pub and somebody mentions they don't want it, I move on with my life. They want to stigmatise taking a happy go lucky approach to life. I think the pandemic has exposed how people really think. It's easy to virtue signal, proclaim you have progressive views, say f**k the Tories a hundred times a day - but many attitudes from the left consist of scoffing at working people concerned about their jobs/industries and just wanting to earn a crust - (some of the stuff aimed at nightclubs re-opening was disgusting) advocating punishing people if they don't do as they wish with their bodies, and tie themselves in knots about pressure on the NHS/sacking NHS staff if they don't take the jag and so on. One of the few positives to come from this carry on is seeing how these types think underneath the layer of self-righteousness on the top. Self proclaimed progressives actually like divides, segregation and all the social consequences that come from it - they just want it on their own terms.

  45. Just amazing last night. My first trip to Hampden for several years and if my doctors are right, probably my last. Finally though got to see Scotland take on a top side and dominate them. This was no Italy or France where we score and then set up camp on the 18 yard line for a smash and grab win. We really fucked them didn't we? What a great night. 11 heroes last night but Che Adams gets my vote. First time I've seen him in the flesh. Strong as f**k.

  46. Like many, many other people I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bertie Auld. To me, who first went to Firhill in 1977 aged 9, he wasn't Bertie Auld, Lisbon Lion. I was too young to appreciate the significance of that. He was simply the cigar smoking manager of my team. The significance of what he was doing as manager of my team was lost on me too. It's only with the passage of time and the knowledge that comes with age can that be properly put in perspective. He took a part-time Thistle to the top flight. And kept us there. He took us to one League Cup Semi-Final. He took us to two Scottish Cup Semi-Finals. We were cheated in 1979. He took us to the brink of European football. I was gutted when he left. I was just about old enough to appreciate what he had done by then. I loved it when he came back with Hibs and we won 1-0. "Bertie, Bertie what's the score" sang The Shed underlining how wonderfully fickle we football fans are. I hated it when his Hamilton side beat us a few years later. He came back home, just round the corner from his childhood Maryhill home, in 1986 and rescued us from relegation to Scotland's basement league. He should have stayed beyond that but Ken Bates intervened and the club went into near terminal decline. It took John Lambie, cut from the same type of cloth as our Bertie, to rescue our club. Imagine had the two worked together at Firhill. So then farewell Bertie Auld. My first Partick Thistle manager and 44 years on still among the very best. Partick Thistle Legend. He will never be forgotten.
