  1. Tbh, if the guy wanted Shandon to get hurt he'd be better off hiring him to do some work in his house rather than waste time fighting him.

  2. Your post is rather unfortunate in tone. Basic thermal science explains that 1.5 oC is a huge concern. Basically, the earth isn't able to reject enough of the radiant heat absorbed from the sun (and other sources) due to the change in the composition of the earth's atmosphere (such as CO2, CH4, SF6 and water vapour). Landmass and water are collecting this heat and the earth needs to be able to radiate some of this heat back to the sky (it is easy to radiate heat to a black or dark surface, like finding frost on your car in the morning where heat radiates to the dark night sky). The earth's atmosphere is acting as an insulating layer, reducing the amount of heat rejected. This leads to gradual expansion of seawater, melting of ice caps and glaciers adding to the mass of water in the oceans and leading to rising seawater levels. This also changes the thermal gradients around the globe which changes atmospheric pressures and therefore wind patterns. This in turn increases the amount of seawater and fresh water evaporation leading to more rainfall but not necessarily in the parts of the world where it is needed due to those changing wind patterns. Fission nuclear power is a complex issue. I can't recall a nuclear project in many decades (if ever) that was delivered anywhere close to time and budget. The nuclear fuel cycle is also complex. Extraction, transport, processing, generation and waste handling (a billions of years legacy problem) are expensive and high risk. In the current world, these establishments are targets for terrorists and hostile powers and proliferation greatly increases these risks as there are then more targets. Nuclear fission is a hugely expensive technology, much more than renewables or conventional thermal generation technologies. It does not create a significant direct greenhouse gas problem but transportation and processing do. Nuclear fusion technology, may offer some hope, but is still struggling to yield much more than the energy input. If successful, it has fewer waste issue than fusion as the by products have much, much lower radiation half-lives than post fission isotopes (a hundred years compared to billions). We'll see how this develops. Our energy problem is growing as the world's population and therefore consumption grow. We need to reduce consumption whilst finding affordable energy solutions which are sustainable (environmentally, socially and economically). We may need to accept lower overall efficiencies if we want to move to a significant hydrogen economy, but if we can convert direct solar, wind and tidal generation to hydrogen, the primary fuel is free it's what we do next that counts. Other storage media are of course available which the industry is actively expanding (battery and pumped storage hydro being the primary technologies, but there are others) Carbon Capture and storage is still worth exploring and would allow us to maintain larger generation sets feeding the grid and reducing voltage control issues and reducing the power electronics costs where we have large numbers of smaller generators. All of us can play a part by consuming responsibly and voting pragmatically. We need a responsible transition and people pressure can work. If we don't buy it, companies can't afford to make it and governments can't tax it.

  3. It’s a complete load of shite. At my gym, there’s an aqua aerobics class three times a week, attended by approximately fifteen or so ladies ‘of a certain age’. They’re a good crowd, a laugh when you get talking to them. For them, their classes are more than the exercise. A lot of them have lost their partners, and the social aspect of it all, getting out the house, staying active…. Anyway…. at the end of their pool sessions the fifteen or so of them shove three tables together in the cafe, get the teas in, and maskless, sitting very close together, the nattering and laughing, the volume… increases. A gaggle of older women can make one helluva’ noise. They’re pretty much in each other’s faces. However, if one of them needs to leave the table, and walk the ten yards to and from the toilet, they slap on a patterned ‘fashion’ facemask. They return, sit down amongst their pals again, take it off, and off they go again. After about forty minutes of talking, laughing, shouting from one end of the table to the other, where Sadie is a bit deaf, all maskless, they all get up from the table, reach into their handbags, put on their patterned fashion facemasks… to walk the twenty feet out the front door. It’s a farce. An absolute fcuking disgraceful farce, and the mandatory wearing of facemasks should be booted into the sun.

  6. I was going to give a detailed reply but decided against it. I have decades of professional experience in the energy sector across technologies and sectors and it's great that we are seeing such engagement in the debate across the globe. Sadly, It is clear to me from reading your reply that you don't understand the scale of what is required nor the technologies involved, all of which is my day job. Please take the time to do a bit more research (build up to the second law of thermodynamics).

  8. St Mirren fans lording it over Saints after that is a truly stunning occurrence. Yes they were a wee bit better, but that was two utterly incompetent teams trying to play a game of football. Absolutely lacking in any technical competence. Dreadful, turgid shite, disgraceful from both sides. Ali Crawford a passenger, contributed nothing. McCart dogshite bad. Middleton appalling, couldn't control anything, hopeless today. Awful conditions, but I don't care what anyone says that was very much a Tommy Wright late Maclean era performance. Lump the ball forward and hope for the best. Attrocious. There's no way folk will keep returning to watch that, 5 games in a row now. It is post 2014 Cup win all over again. Its a point at home I suppose, but ffs give us something to cheer or get excited about. That was as low for entertainment factor as I can remember for a long time. I suppose at least we changed it early, but you look at our squad and struggle to see anyone that can make a huge difference, we are just a squad of journeyman hardworking players. You reap the seeds you sow, and we've completely brought this on ourself through complacency.

  11. Its hard to justify sticking with it when you look at those figures. Its not as if its just a couple of bad games or that, its been fairly consistent for over a season now. I do think the quality of player we have in attack is as much of an issue as the shape to a point though. Wotherspoon and Bryson are the only midfielders I'm happy to see starting these days, as I just don't think the others are good enough to do anything useful on the ball. Same up front really, we end up clapping like seals when May and Kane press someone or hold the ball up, as if its the best we can expect, while neither have any sort of ruthless streak around them when they actually see the goal. In all fairness I think May is good at helping create chances these days but ultimately it means f**k all if one of your strikers is stood on the left flank back heeling balls to your left back. Kane being undroppable as our only starting striker probably a nice summation of why we never score, while Middleton/Wotherspoon/every midfielder don't even seem to ever touch the ball in the box these days. Muller was getting absolutely slaughtered in the first half by Davidson/MacLean for not pushing up, to the point I assumed it was him off at half time. Clearly they know the shape relies on the wide CBs pushing up, so why continue with it when you've not got the players available who can do it? I dunno. Its hard to really argue against a manager/system which won us 2 cups, has us in another semi and more than likely will lead us to mid-table again, and I know how weird this'll sound, but theres very little about Davidsons reign thats been promising for the long term. Our squad is disintegrating and is being plugged with sticking plasters with us completely reliant on loans, the already poor style of play is declining, and its possible we're going to break the league record for lowest home goals scored in a season for the 2nd time under him. Its hard to see him leaving us in a better position than he found us in, and that would mean he'll be the first manager to do that to us for a long time. Hopefully just the usual doom and gloom after a poor performance though.

  13. A quick scan of the socials today seems to indicate that the majority of supporters appear to be accepting this as the new standard. There doesn't seem to be any anger at yesterday's result, more... 'oh well onto next week'? Are the supporters on here out of touch with the bulk of the fanbase or are they just happy clappers? I find where we are completely depressing, but I also find myself agreeing with others that I find myself caring less week on week. Holt needs to go, but I've seen absolutely nothing from Sheerin to indicate he has what it takes to manage Falkirk. Just a bit scunner to be honest.

  16. I have no objection to remembrance but also no objection to dissent to it at football matches. It is ridiculous how sport and entertainment has been hijacked. Not exactly fair to Kuruhashi, or Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel to have this stuff imposed on them at their work, is it? The relentless ramping up of remembrance at football is pointless propaganda of no value and a lot of people find it distasteful.

  18. No he didn't. Some of our football under eyes was eye bleedingly bad to watch. This, and some of your other comments, sound like a slant on Robertson which seems incredibly harsh given what happened to him off the field. I'd imagine many players and managers would find similar circumstances difficult to deal with. Dodds inherited a pretty strong spine of a team from Robertson...

  19. Queen's clearly have a good squad and keep possession and move the ball about very well. But my impression of them from the two games so far is they can be a bit one dimensional. Keep them in front of you, and limit their space to pass the ball about in dangerous areas and it looks like they run out of ideas a little bit. Add their recent defensive frailty and they don't look like a team who're going to pull away at the top of the league unless one or both of those issues are sorted. They look like a side who're more toothless than they should be as long as you don't come out and play into their strengths. They've been unable to beat us in two goes. Compare that to Montrose, who've spanked us twice, and seem able to relentlessly find a way in, no matter how you set out to play against them.

  20. "We need to listen more to Scotland" And then go right on ignoring them after we've done all that listening. Lovely to see the "Labour can't win without Scotland" shite just rolled out as if its solid gold truth, so they can blame us for England electing the tories again. At some point it might be nice to have someone explain to Keith and to journalists in general that it is not Scotland's responsibility, nor is it in our interest to deliver England a Labour government it didn't vote for and which demonstrably couldn't give less of a f**k about what we might want.

  27. The sleaze allegations, and the clear evidence of impropriety is now starting to land. It will be interesting to see how much traction it has and whether the Govt and Johnson can ride it out. Only a few years ago, just one of the current allegations or apparent Govt sleaze actions would have been enough but in today's post truth/largely Govt media compliant political age you need to see a succession of issues to resonate (and even then reluctantly) including Covid multi-million pound contract awards to party faithful; party friends financing decorations and holidays (undeclared) for favours or return of favours; donations for peerages; and cash for MP questions/MP lobbying... To me all the above is standard Tory practices and they have the complete confidence to double down on this behaviour in recent years. Little blow-back following the covid contract awards, beyond the court battles of the Good Law Project, has given them carte blanche to milk as much for themselves and the party from the system as possible. Add all this to their pursuit of Brexit solely to appease the party faithful and I would suggest that you would have difficulty in spotting a more self serving corrupt party in the history of democracy. It really is fuckin tragic.

  28. Not particularly random as my mate is a Dunbar fan but he text d me before the game to say he had a cold and wasn't going Dundonald 6 Dunbar 3 Dundonald was the last ground I went to before lockdown last year. They've put a roof over this bit of existing concrete terrace although the wind meant that by the second half the shed had emptied. The new lights also went on at half time. 9 goals, two pens, dodgy defending, soup and a cheeseburger. Not a bad day out despite the wind.

  31. My assessment of Queen's from what I've seen so far this season which is only 2 live games against us and match highlights in other games is a strong depth of squad, lots of attacking midfield flair players who flood forward but missing a really clinical forward. Lately conceding far too many goals and need to stem that habit. Jointed top scorers in the league (with Cove) and conceded the 2nd least behind Montrose. Can't argue with those stats after 13 games but only 2 wins in 8 is slightly worrying. Need to win next week imo as the following 4 fixtures are tough Peterhead (a), Falkirk (h), Airdrie (a), Montrose (a) Saying all of that there is very little between the top 5 or 6 teams. I don't see Queen's dropping down the league but nor do I see them stretching away from the pack. Queen's fans humble in the whole and know it can take time to progress. By no means a certainty that QP go up automatically this season. Certainly the same for Cove. I think we (QP and Cove) are no better than the other top 5 teams in large and playoffs might be where we end up. Getting up through the playoffs is very tough as we showed last season

  35. Don’t think we should be too despondent. We are still picking up points even when we put in a sub-par performance. As Calderon said, in previous years we’d have lost that game yesterday. To be sitting one win off top spot after 13 games is tremendous. We’ve only lost three competitive fixtures all season and one of those was to Celtic. That’s a great record. The Championship is looking ridiculously tight this year and while we not have the depth of squad to outlast someone like Kilmarnock (who I suspect will spend big in January) over 36 games, we do have a hugely talented team with a great manager, so who knows what we can achieve. As Marvin Andrew’s used to say…Believe.

  36. A third of the way through the league campaign and we're in 2nd place, pretty happy overall. I can't see us catching or even pushing Kelty, they'll win the league with 6 or 7 games to spare, but we're already 9 points ahead of 5th place and I'm confident in saying we'll finish top 3. After the shite of the last 2 years I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was a bit apprehensive about this season. With Brechin gone it really was a season where everybody was targeting top 4 while also looking over their shoulders to 10th so to already have to not worry about that is great. I think credit has to go to Gary Irvine for bringing a lot of positivity as well as a few good signings, certainly better than Malcolm and his sign anybody available policy. We've got a pretty solid team now. We know how good McCallum is, and although I think he's lost a couple of goals he'll be disappointed with this season, he's always capable of a spectacular save and is generally solid. Back 4 has been consistent which helps. We know how committed Meechan is, when we had our blip he was culpable for a couple of goals but he's responded well and got a couple of assists. Thought Strachan was poor defensively to start with but he's improved, plus we've started scoring from his deliveries every week, he must have 6 or 7 assists. Andy Munro is your classic heid the ball all day centre half perfect for this league, I love how furious he is at conceding goals. Ando doesn't quite have the legs anymore but you can still see his class. Still have Whyte to come back too, remains to be seen if he'll be the same player. Centre midfield has been all about Slater, he's on a different level, so clever and the way he makes space is fantastic. He's had a torrid time with injuries in his career so happy for him to be showing what he can do with us. We do need a partner to do the dirty work for him. Gallagher started well before his injury, Archie Thomas is ok and Jamie Ness has already had a couple of niggles. I'd love a proper take no prisoners ball winner beside Slater to let him play. Out wide I think Thomson has been the star, we've been crying out for a direct winger for years and he also has a final product, he's been involved in a lot of goals. I'd like to see Grant Anderson get a few more chances from the start, he seems to get opportunities when he plays. PJ has been OK, hasn't quite hit the heights after his injury. Stefan McCluskey has been good, delighted he's got a few goals after Dumbarton fans told us he'd never score. Up top Matty has done OK, he's our top scorer and on his day is a handful, he's had a few quiet days though so looking for him to start stamping his authority on games. I both love and hate Shep. He runs himself into the ground and wins a lot of lost causes, he gets us up the pitch, but then a chance will come his way and he can't control his feet, he just doesn't have the technical ability needed, but in a weird way I think he's quite important to the team for the dirty work he does. A clinical striker would complete us as a team I feel. Sorry for the novel, started thinking and just spraffed. Happy to have a good team again, think we're capable of being a great team. We won't win the league but I'll be very surprised if we're not playing Stirling in the playoff semi come May, we're definitely capable of winning them.

  40. Wooft Accies are not looking very good at all, dear knows how they managed a point in this game, and it was looking like they were going to do a smash and grab for all 3 too. Arbroath absolutely battered them, but just couldn't get the ball in the net. Finally got their goal but even a draw was a steal for Accies, very poor looking outfit. Big Joel makes it look effortless holding off 3 or 4 players till runners go past him, looking forward to seeing if he can do that for us in the top flight too, cracking looking player.
