  1. That's some statement of intent. Not a move I can say I expected from the Rovers, but credit where it's due. He's still young and still needs time to develop, he wasn't outstanding every week last season, but he's more than good enough to play Championship football, and who knows where his ceiling is. I can't think that there's anyone else out there who would be a better signing with the windows closed.

  2. The reason people get frustrated at things you post is because they have absolutely no relevance to anything people actually post about. Years ago you managed to get home from abroad once after losing your passport because you had a photocopy of it. Fine. You contacted airlines/whoever explaining the situation and an allowance was made for what would have been an isolated occurrence. Your planning saved you. Fine. From what I remember this started after a story yesterday about the vaccine passport app not working. This isn't a couple of people going abroad, this is literally tens of thousands of people in the country at a time, every day, having to use this. Something they have no say in, it's just government mandated for them to be able to carry on with their lives as normal. Do you really think it's reasonable to expect all of those people to forgo the main advertised means of using this passport and carry a backup with them at all times? Do you see everyone going to a football match with this? What about pished folk in a nightclub queue? The reason people get so fucking irritated with what you post isn't what you seem to think it is, that being a childish tantrum borne of misplaced intelligence and recklessness. People are frustrated because their lives are still subject to restrictions which don't really do much to case numbers or death numbers, they have a government extending and expanding those restrictions with no stated end date, and they have condescending p***ks like you playing a role of simpleton to try and score points over them on the internet. Grow the f**k up.

  3. That’s a brilliant signing, that I’m genuinely surprised we managed to pull off. I was thinking that someone would be able to negotiate with Aberdeen to come to some kind of agreement, but never thought it would be ourselves. Like someone else mentioned, I thought Ross was more effective for us than Kai Kennedy. I’m not saying he’s definitely a better player than him, but I was more impressed by the former. If he kicks on over the next 18 months, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the next player to bring us in a decent fee, which will obviously be a lot bigger with us being a Premiership club by that point.

  5. Personally I wasn't too disappointed in the defeat last night as its been coming. We've had a great start to the season, actually better than I expected and no disrespect to the young boys but any team would miss Pope and Lyle at the back. I do feel as if somethings not quite clicking at the moment but that will come. On to last night's game, I thought Darvel played well and just about deserved their win. They defended well, got the break of the ball and done what they needed to do. Referee didn't do much wrong either. The usual strange decisions but none that would have changed the game. On another note. 'God's little acre' looked amazing under the floodlights.

  6. Steve Irwin on one pec, Harold Bishop on the other. Rips the shirt off and bears his chest to the crowd after every goal.

  7. I couldn’t care less how he sees himself. If he keeps on scoring goals for Scotland he can sing Waltzing Matilda during the national anthem, have a huge tattoo of Steve Irwin on his chest and drive to games in a great big Joe Mangle-style ute while blasting out AC/DC on the stereo.

  8. There's no such thing as 'male culture', in the same way that there isn't a 'female culture' that all women are answerable for. You can't restore sweeping, outdated, sexist stereotypes just because it makes your argument against injustice simpler - though not actually insightful.

  10. Sensational from the club and Super John. What a signing he was an absolute stand out and hopefully can kick on and get a big move in the next 2 years. Hopefully everyone threatening to stop paying into the clubs transfer coffers after we sold Tait are re-thinking.

  11. Agreed. The Undead would have beaten us in that final no doubt. It would have been horrendous. And there’d have been no four armed juvenile delinquents on the Hampden pitch punching out corpulent Sevconians. God bless the rolly polly goalie.

  12. I repeat. You’re full of shit. Slip through security on landing when you have no passport? Give me strength. Feel free to show us any government website that states you can return to the UK with a photocopy or scan of your passport or any airline that will embark a normal punter without a valid passport.

  13. It's the anniversary of someone I miss every day's death (he took a fatal heart attack due to too much cocaine).. That, coupled with an interview Steven Caulker has given about addiction has made me take the first step in admitting I have a serious problem and seeking help for help for it. No more "I need to stay aff it", i need help and I will hopefully beat this.

  14. Genuinely surprised and delighted to have signed Ethan, and going by his interview, he's certainly 'buzzing' to be back. After a quiet transfer window and much disappointment expressed at not spunking the playing budget bringing players in to bulk up the squad (or make up numbers), this just reiterates this threads oft-used phrase: In McGlynn we trust. Assuming there's no money left now for the Andy Carroll deal though...

  16. He'll get his chance. If their birthdates and debuts had been reversed, it would be Ramsay in a Scotland shirt right now. A lot of international and stalwarts within their national teams can thank happy accidents of timing for their careers. How many Scottish left backs have lost debuts and caps because they were unfortunate enough to have a career at the same time as Robertson and Tierney? If Tierney and Robertson were right backs, SOD might never have got a game. If Gordon had never suffered his awful injuries, he could be on 100+ caps and McGregor and Marshall would be footnotes. The same goes for Darren Fletcher, and the caps awarded when he was unavailable. That's how international football works - sometimes the planets align for you, and sometimes against you. In otherwise identical performances and careers, but in different times, that could be the difference of a handful of starts, or 50 caps. It's not unfair, it's just football. Patterson was in first, has shown himself to be at least adept at this level, and shows great promise. Switching relatively untested players about for each camp is something you can only do on Championship/Football Manager. It doesn't work in real life.

  18. So they didn’t jump the gun then… I think what you say fits with the point that the club PR is poor - there’s no one at the club to even do it just now. Not having a go at you or any others tasked with doing it, the problem is from higher up. You do a great job of coming on here and putting out fires regarding tickets and the club shop, but the very fact that you have to do it so often kind of reinforces the point. And you’ve been doing it since long before the commercial manager left.

  19. Magnificent. I pulled something similar many years ago on the A90. There's a stretch between the second and third junctions into Forfar (Northbound) which had speed cameras installed about 1.5 miles apart (there had been a couple of fatal smashes on the crossings there, since remodelled with an underpass and flyover). Anyhow, I had been at the cinema in Dundee with my girlfriend that night, heading back to Kirriemuir, I was sitting at about 85mph in my second of numerous shitbox 205GTI's I owned over the years when I noticed some boy in a VW Jetta following close behind. A bit weird as there was virtually no other traffic about. Anyway about a mile short of the first camera I sped up a bit was sat at about 100, with the Jetta still close behind, and just before the first camera I took my foot off the accelerator. Jetta boy pulled out to overtake and roared past me at 110 or so just as I braked down to 70 just in time. *flash flash* As almost everyone does when flashed by a camera, he then pointlessly braked down to 75-80ish and pulled in. I booted it past him, up to 90-95ish. He followed and again I eased off coming up to the second camera then braked for the slip road into Kirriemuir, just as he again roared past, probably again in triple figures. I can only assume the boy was so fucking seething after the first one, he didn't even consider the possibility of another camera just down the road. *flash flash*. Of course this was as immature as f**k, as my girlfriend did indeed point out at the time. As an aside, those cameras must have been amongst the most profitable in Scotland as they were on a long straight just after a long fast downhill section. You could sit in the nearby McDonalds and see them flash 10-15+ times in half an hour.

  20. Lewis Jamieson got another start for us in the SPFL Trust Trophy and he linked well with Mckay again as we came from behind to sword Elgin. Nice finish as well for our 4th goal. The two of them seem to work well together and with Mckay looking almost certain to start this weekend after his hat trick I wouldn't be too averse to Jamieson also getting a chance to show what he can do in the league. The fact that he would have a chance to score against Morton would serve as extra motivation for him I'm sure...

  26. I think it’s perfectly legitimate for folk to be angry about a game that gets more expensive and less enjoyable as time goes on. Other leagues can afford to alienate the match day fan but we can’t in Scotland. Clubs want to drive up their ST sales yet still go with the ‘aye they’ll be annoyed but they’ll come anyway’ approach. Actually, loads of people already find other ways to spend their weekends and plenty more are not far away from following.

  27. I always amazes me that the Alba supporters feel that by creating this breakaway splinter group who attack the SNP at every single opportunity, feel that in some way they are helping the independence cause. They are not. The wavering voters will look at the independence movement and see a chaotic mess of in-fighting, often over issues that have little or nothing to do with independence, but very much to do with ego. Will the presence of Alex Salmond's group persuade any of these folk to come to the Yes side? Will trashing the record of the SNP government convince people that Scotland can go it alone? Alba are not a gateway to independence. Despite their tiny appeal, they are a barrier to it.

  29. Surprising that it took eight years for the clubs to meet. Hopefully Queens wont be as worried about the crowd as they seemed to be when they first visited the Rock in 1883 The excitement and the rivalry of season 1880-81 and 1881-82 were carried into season 1882-83, as Dumbarton and Queen's Park were pitted against each other once more in a Scottish Cup tie, on this occasion in the sixth round. The tie had to be played at Dumbarton, too, which town, strange to say, the senior club had never visited before. The team was very doubtful what reception awaited it, and its anticipations on this head were doleful and pessimistic in the extreme, and not without reason, when it is remembered the hard battles the clubs had already fought on neutral grounds, and under peculiar circumstances. It is not an exaggeration to say it embarked on that short journey in fear and trembling, not so much as to the result of the game, as to the knowledge that the Dumbarton spectators might not share the feelings of friendly rivalry that really existed between the two clubs, and which confined itself to the field of battle. A fear dwelt in the hearts of the Queen's Park that a hostile reception was to be expected. The saloon carriage which carried the team on that eventful journey contained many timorous souls, prepared to face all eventualities, whether from an aggressive crowd or from a foe worthy of their steel. All these gloomy anticipations were doomed to be agreeably disappointed, as the reception given the Queen's Park team on stepping on to the field of play was decidedly friendly, not to say cordial, and equally so during the game itself. The players on both sides played in a fair yet determined manner, and gave an exhibition worthy of the high position both then held in the world of football. The game was played on 3rd February, 1883. After many attempts and many years of patient labour, Dumbarton attained here the object of their ambition, when they defeated Queen's Park by three goals to one, and won the cup for the first and last time, defeating Vale of Leven in the final by two goals to one, after a drawn game. In this match Queen's Park played three half-backs—Campbell, Watson, and Gow—and Dumbarton two—P. Miller and L. Keir. The new formation had its effect on Harrower, as he seemed at sea looking for his old partner. All the Dumbarton team played as they never played before, and were delighted at their great success. The teams were:— Queen's Park—A. Rowan; W. Arnott and A. W. Holm; C. Campbell, A. Watson, and J. J. Gow; E. Fraser, W. Anderson, W. Harrower, D. S. Allan, and J. L. Kay. Dumbarton—J. M'Aulay; M. Paton and J. Hutcheson; P. Miller and L. Keir; R. Brown (1), R. Brown (2), J. Lindsay, J. Miller, F. M'Arthur, and W. M'Kinnon. History of the Queen's Park Football Club 1867 - 1917 Richard Robinson (1920).

  33. I would support a boycott, but I think the time for it has passed. It should have been done on a confederation wide basis when it was announced that Qatar would be hosting, as that might have made a difference. I don’t think Scotland, in isolation, boycotting will make any real difference. Elite football is absolutely up to it’s eyes in incredibly dodgy stuff, and it’ll take a lot more than Scotland boycotting a World Cup to change that - not that that means it’s not worthwhile.

  34. Not necessarily wanting to rake over the Lawless coals but thinking about it, since he's been at the club Alexander's dealt with Gallagher and his "gun to his head" patter, Polworth chucking his toys out the pram and now Lawless. He wasn't shy in playing Magloire ahead of Gallagher and bumped him out the starting XI after Aberdeen announced his pre-contract despite our request to hold off until the season had finished. Polworth went public about being told to train with the weans and from the look of things Lawless has basically just been told to take his money and f**k off. I've said it before but Alexander doesn't seem to be here to take anyone's bullshit. On reflection it's difficult to imagine any aspect of Lawless' general persona endearing him to Alexander tbh.

  39. Perhaps you’re not getting it. It is a reaction to people saying that women shouldn’t go out alone at night, shouldn’t wear short skirts, should stay on the phone to friends while walking etc. It’s not a serious suggestion - it is showing the absurdity of expecting women to change their behaviour in order to protect themselves against men. But there again, given you are on a thread about violence against women and misogynist attitudes, coming out with “right yer are hen”, perhaps it’s not surprising that you’re not getting it.
