Also, if you did dismiss an employee on discovery of a spent conviction you'd be taken to the cleaners at tribunal. Or more likely, being a very smart person you'd settle long before it got there.

Go and have a look at the work of street and arrow, the violence reduction unit etc and tell me rehabilitation by giving people a purpose and sense of self worth isnt a successful way to prevent reoffending. If these projects were properly funded we’d half our prison population. Most crime is a result of the environment the individual is brought up in, whats the common theme in most of these environments, poverty, neglect and being forgotten and left behind. The murder of James was an act of inexplicable evil, but to shift every single criminal into some kind of ‘write off’ bundle and not invest in helping them turn their lives around is like admitting you’ve failed as a society.

I posted similar to this a while back pointing out that the only reason anyone gives a f**k is because he plays for Rangers. If he had played 5 games for St Mirren/Livingston/Dundee Utd nobody would give a toss about him getting picked or not and that SOD merits being first pick right now but gets criticism for everything.
