  2. I'll believe Ross County are "all in" for Show Racism The Red Card's Month of Action when Malky Mackay uses his platform and experience to educate people about how racism is bad. He had an opportunity to show leadership in that regard on Saturday and chose to criticise the guy making an anti-racism gesture instead. Then the club doubled down on that criticism yesterday. Regardless of whether they think Courts was at it, or whether he just hadn't been briefed, don't say that bit. It looks terrible.

  15. He bloody should be under pressure. I have absolutely nothing against Sheerin as a person - indeed, I think he comes across as a decent guy - but absolutely nothing I've seen of him so far has shown me he is capable of managing a full-time club with automatic promotion aspirations and all that comes with it. If we go through the next few weeks playing two up top and come out with 12+ points out the next 15 my opinion may change, but I'm expecting him to go back to one up front for our next game.

  19. Controversially perhaps amongst Raith supporters, I wasn't the biggest fan of Armstrong at the Rovers. I didn't think he was nearly as good as he did and that his decision making and set pieces were pretty poor (a couple of notable exceptions apart). He left us once, couldn't get a game and we took him back. Left us again and is sitting on the bench again. To see him freshly on the park getting left for dead by that beast of a run by Tumilty was pleasing. He looks to have put on weight, or else was towing a huge invisible one. And then there's Murray. Pumped by the Rovers as a Par and pumped again at Killie. He must be fed up playing his old team. And what a team they are. Sent from my SM-N950F using Pie and Bovril mobile app

  22. Despite difficult course conditions, Scotland put in a terrific performance in the foursomes, to win more points than the RoTW, and reduce the deficit from the first round. Shout out to @Salvo Montalbano who spent so long searching for his charger, he forgot to post his score. Fortunately, it made no difference to the result of his match. @Snobot took his time to hand in his card, but his two points won the match, much to the relief of his partner @Blootoon87. @alang1993 & @Ronaldo Jeremy saw off a dangerous pairing of @WhiteRoseKilie & @pleslie99 Captain's apology to @JamesP_81 and the rest of the lads for falling in our match. Overall, I'm deleighted with everyone's efforts and the RoTW know they are in a competition. Off to ponder pairings for round three, and will message these later

  25. Depends on which "clubs with budgets less than ours" you're talking about and whether you're talking specifically about recruitment or just "value" in general. Either way from the outside looking in it feels like a big part of the issue is Nelms and approach to infrastructure. Again, I've no idea if this actually is the case or not but looking at the managerial appointments he's made it feels like he's happy to hand over the "football department" to the manager and just write cheques so there's a lack of direction and you're really just relying on the manager to provide that. I think this impression for me goes back to McCann coming out and highlighting that Dundee's scouting department was pretty much non-existent but a step forward was getting a WyScout subscription or whatever. I mean, even @RandomGuy. has a WyScout subscription now...it's a pretty basic thing. Have the club done anything more to address that, has Nelms set up a recruitment role/department or are they still relying on the manager and his contacts? McCann getting a player like Kamara in was a good example of the club getting value from a player on the park (if not on the player trading side) and Jack Hendry ticked both boxes albeit he was a more known quantity in Scottish football but more recently there seems to have been a pivot away to signing "names" eg: Adam, Cummings, Griffiths etc. Clearly I know Strachan's involved at the club as "technical director" but that position still feels quite vague and undefined. On the face of it while McPake can clearly lean on Strachan should he wish there doesn't seem to be much obvious backroom support in other areas. Again, it depends on what clubs you're meaning but if you look around the league you're seeing more and more clubs with a more modest budget investing in infrastructure and the direction for these sort of changes is coming from CEO/Boardroom level and the intention is to get better value. To use Motherwell as an example it became clear in recent seasons that our previous strategy had run its course. Over the summer we brought in a 2nd data analyst for the first team, we've set up partnerships with analytics companies and we've had the Head of Recruitment role established for years. All of that goes to support the manager. We announced our new HoR and this was the mandate around his role and it feels like, as before, it's part of a broader strategy: Obviously it remains to be seen whether that's successful in our case but to your point about other clubs getting value from their budget this probably goes some way to highlighting why it might be the case. Other clubs are identifying strategies to develop and improve on that front and generally investing in the infrastructure of their respective clubs but I'm not sure the same feels true of Nelms.

Rangers sit top of the league but nobody has beaten Hearts. one of those facts is probably going to change it's undoubtedly match of the day and live on Sky Sports is showing Aberdeen vs Dundee? 29. I've been every bit as unconvinced with him attacking as defending tbh. Constantly slows it down, rarely if ever provides an overlap just stops and looks for the pass back infield then stands there rather than getting on his bike. Seems terrified of getting caught out and refuses to commit to the attacking side accordingly. I really hope theres much better to come from him

  31. Ps FTV Sheerin's preferred formation is not 4-3-3, it's a standard 6-3-1 We are in a league where 80% are part time, we have a top two budget, we have the biggest backing fan wise yet we play defensive formations. We should be arrogant with the above stacked in our favour, instead we are a whimpering mess playing defensive football against bottom of the league with zero shots on target in the first 45 mins at home on Saturday. We shouldn't be having that level of performance at this level full stop, the 2nd half performance was an improvement by far but it still wasn't of the standard we should have. The fans vented their feelings during and post the game on Saturday, even after winning, that tells its own story.

  33. That's us on 17 points after 9 games. The lack of goals is an obvious concern but Cove Rangers have only scored two more, even with McAllister and Megginson up top, and Falkirk have scored one fewer. It's fair to say most if not all five of our draws will feel more like points dropped than a point won, but if you look at the last seven winners of League One, they were all on a similar points total after the first round of games. 2021 - Thistle: 14 points 2020 - Raith: 19 points 2019 - Arbroath: 21 points 2018 - Ayr: 17 points 2017 - Livingston: 18 points 2016 - Dunfermline: 19 points 2015 - Morton: 15 points Averages out at 17.6 points. Worth noting as well that Dunfermline went on to win the league by 18 points and Livi by 19. I get that with the budget invested in players the expectation levels are in a different galaxy from anything any of us have experienced before as Queen's fans, but a quarter of the way in and we're in a great position to kick on and win the league. We're also only going to get better as the season goes on.

  35. Part of the problem with football being run as a commercial entity is missing the fundamental point of what makes it so enjoyable. the argument for VAR is basically the money at stake for getting decisions wrong for clubs, managers etc. I’m not against football being run as a business but the fundamental point is that what sets football apart as a sport is the sheer unmitigated joy that happens when the ball hits the back of the net in a big game. You think back to your best memories of being at football and it’s very likely to be that 5-10 seconds when the ball hits the net and the absolute chaos in the stands that follows. VAR kills that and it isn’t even that effective.

  37. In my opinion it’s not a question of whether the Manager bends to the wishes of the fans or continues to work to his preferred system. Any competent manager has to be flexible in how he sets up a team and at the moment ours does not seem to realise that his system of choice and player selection is not the best use of the squad available to him. He really has to adapt and do it quickly.

  40. I’d quite like to not have to wait a couple of minutes to be able to celebrate a goal. If that means that sometimes mistakes happen (which demonstrably VAR doesn’t solve anyway) then that’s a price I’m more than happy to pay. That and I don’t care at all whether Scottish referees lose their UEFA status or whatever it is. I can’t actually think of anything football-related that I’m less bothered about.

  41. Those claiming it wasn't a sending off because Porteous didn't make contact don't understand the basic rules of the game. If player 1 aims a haymaker of a punch, but player 2 manages to duck out of the way, player 1 should still be sent off. Porteous' tackle was a potential leg-breaker because his airborne lunge was high and totally out of control. It's not as if Aribo was inconsiderate and should've left his leg in position to have it shattered just to prove a point!
