  1. Good afternoon all! This is a polite reminder that season four of A View from the Terrace begins tonight at 10:30pm on the BBC Scotland channel. It's going to be more of the same - a bunch of D-list chumps who have never kicked a ball in their lives talking about Scottish football - but a little bit different too. I hope you're able to to tune in tonight or at a later time on the BBC iPlayer.

  2. This. Drive the car round the corner and hide her keys, bag etc. Casually arrive back and ask her where she’s parked the car. Wait until she’s on the point of calling the cops and fess up. She’ll instantly see the funny side and will be grateful for the useful and practical life lesson you’ve provided. [emoji106]

  3. My cunning plan to lure the ROTW into a false sense of confidence worked!! Time to review the first round performances @Salvo Montalbano & @Ronaldo Jeremy went out first and lost with "Dignity" @peasy23 & @BigBo10 hit the rough and ended up "Walking on Broken Glass" @Arch Stanton & @Namond Brice won & said "Bye Bye Baby" to their opponents @Cardinal Richelieu & @Culter Away "Say what you want" but they added another point @JamesP_81 & @The DA failed to bring back a "Glittering Prize" @JustOneCornetto & @Snobot said "Look Away" from their score @alang1993 & @mathematics took their tie to "The Edge of the World" and narrowly lost @The Hologram & @gkneil charged "Into the Valley" to bring another point @Silky Si McFly & @101 dissapointment, as @Silky Si McFly chose to "Walk Away" from the first round @Rugster & @ArmadaleKillie halved their game with a "Labour of Love" @scottsdad & @Blootoon87 were "Alive & Kicking" to bring home another point. Pwoud Vewy Pwoud of efforts so far. Off to contemplate teams for the next round

  5. Keatings is out the picture, that seems pretty clear. I suspect he'll be fine for Montrose without being world-beating, and we'll negotiate his transfer for a bag of bibs in January. The spectre of Timmy Abraham looms large over this loan window, I imagine. I've no idea how much he cost last season, but I'm sure it was more than free. I can only speak for myself, but it's very much the case that the money I put into the Supporter's Fund goes without any caveats beyond being at the manager's discretion. If anything, I'd be more upset to see it squandered on another club's teenager that won't make an impact. I find it puzzling and immature in the extreme when people talk about pulling that funding. There are innumerable factors in the transfer windows that we're not party to. The idea that John McGlynn had a reasonable option available and chose not to take it is bizarre and completely illogical. If anything, it's a real advantage to have a manager who won't pad out his squad just because he can. (Not looking in any particular direction, or at anyone's seven centre halfs, Mr Grant.) Money that's not spent now will be available to spend in January. It's frustrating to be going into the next three months (minimum) with only three strikers, and only one over the age of 19, but if McGlynn thinks this is the best way to play the cards he's been dealt, I'm with him.

  6. I wouldn't argue with any of that. The SNP have indeed performed dismally in Government and it has become embroiled in issues which have very little locus to most voters, such as the Hate Crime Bill and trans rights. It's become a challenge to keep putting that 'X' in the box. However, UK politics has long been a case of the least-worst option and you look at the political direction of travel of England. Do you surrender your vote to a Tory Government which is both serially incompetent and criminally corrupt and is ideologically hell-bent on amplifying the currently obscene levels of inequality and opportunity across the country ? Tough call that. Or what about Labour, led by an uninspiring craven apology of leader who is petrified of upholding the founding principles of his party. Just listen to the weasel words of Lisa Nandy as she tries to avoid calling out Brexit for the total act of economic lunacy it is. Why does she do that ? Because the shitebags are more intent on appeasing the zoomer faction in the electorate than standing four square behind what is right. Take your pick from the rest if you will, but I think you'll find that bad as the SNP are (and we should never forget the malodorous journalistic and broadcast climate in Scotland) they still currently represent the best option for defending Scottish interests.

  7. Sitting waiting patiently for the Beeb to comment on the doubtless well deserved elevation to the Lords of Malcolm Offord and his richly deserved insertion into Her Most Britannic Majesty's Government as a Minister in the Scotland Office. After all, who better to actively participate in the government of a democracy than someone who was unsuccessful in the Lothians List at the 2021 Scottish election. Presumably his donation of £147500 to the Conservatives was incidental in determining his suitability for pubic office. Seriously, surely even the most ass kissing Tory sycophant can't support this sort of disgraceful abuse of power in something that claims to be a democracy?

  9. Someone who is susceptible to death via covid has already had two vaccines and will be getting a third soon. If you think me wearing a piece of cloth (not medical standard) on my face offers them any further protection that their 3 vaccines don't then I'm afraid the science your using is selective. We've already crippled the economy for the last 18 months and sacrificed a hell of a lot more to keep these people safe, if you're vulnerable and don't feel safe then I'm afraid that's a problem you need to deal with now, society has done all it can for you. Masks are as much use to preventing covid infection as taking a knee is for preventing racism.

  10. This. All this chat about "its bad for Scottish football chat" is utter pish. Arguably worse than the colt teams chat. Get Celtgers pumped routinely in Europe every day of the week and twice on a Thursday.

  11. I know you'll have oodles of fans of other clubs Duffy has managed chucking in their tuppence worth, but I'm off this afternoon. So you'll now have to deal with mine. And it's bloody colossal. Jim Duffy is probably the biggest disappointment of a managerial appointment Sons have made in my lifetime. Although Morton fans did brief us fairly accurately on how his time at the Rock would go.

  17. I have had a good few years enjoying all sorts of topics on here, without ever feeling the need to comment, however, I now feel the need to put my head above the parapet. I have over 20 years service in the police. In that time I have watched the job change incredibly and I would readily admit that the service we provide to the public is not as good as it should be. In my opinion we have lost sight of our main priority, which is to provide a service to the community and try our best to keep people safe. I will also be the first to admit that we, alongside all other companies, have our fair share of folk who should not be in that job, probably more so than any other agency due to the nature of the job. However, every time I go to work, I, along with the majority of my colleagues, try and do the best we can with the limited resources given to us. The Sarah Everard case is horrendous and I am glad that he received a whole life term, in fact I would probably go further on that, but it would be a different topic. Over and above his horrific acts, he has played his part in destroying any remaining trust the public had in what we do. That being said, I do find it difficult to read that, purely because of the job I do, I am automatically labelled an acab or worse. The police are routinely left to deal with all manner of things that we are not equipped to deal with, the main one being mental health, and then criticised whenever anything goes wrong. Defend the police is a great slogan for America, but maybe not so good for here, as we have precious little to go around as it is. I know this post is more suited to the general police thread, but it seemed to be relevant here. Oaksoft said earlier that we have a strong union. That is wrong, we have a staff association made up of office bearers that can't be voted out. We also have no right to strike, so in all honesty they are a waste of time. And also an embarrassment on a number of occasions.

  18. At least if Scotgov are utterly hell bent on dying on this particular hill, we can say that they deserve it. Imagine calling for what you know is going to be a controversial, unpopular, and in the eyes of many (including several spineless individuals from within your own number who mysteriously stood down their concerns) discriminatory and divisive policy, then being utterly hopeless at inplementing it. Surely in this scenario, you go to great lengths to ensure your detractors dont get MORE ammo to use against you, instead of wrassling around with the very first hurdle like a turtle on its back

  21. My Uncle Peter was involved in this as one of the RR shop stewards. He's very briefly in the film. I remember New Year family gatherings long after the event where he'd tell tales about being on an MI5 list and how his hotel rooms were always bugged. I always assumed he was exaggerating after a few too many. Sad that I didn't know about any of this until I saw the movie and he'd passed away and I'd missed my chance to tell him how much I admired him for his part in telling Pinochet to GTF and standing up for something he believed in.

  22. We’re in the third tier of Scottish football for the 3rd year in a row and we’re absolutely dugmeat. Any fan that is content with how things are going or are not ‘moaning’ or having a go at how the club is being run and the direction we’re going in need to have a fucking serious word with themselves.

  23. Cressida Dick is unsackable and has been for fifteen years. She was the officer in charge of the team that assassinated a Brazilian electrician in Stockwell Tube Station, and somehow nobody managed to get any kind of disciplinary sanctions for that. On the contrary, she got promoted a few months later...

  24. Some are, there's no doubt about that. But as I said the other day, I genuinely think the vast majority of our fanbase is punch-drunk. It's like boiling a frog. We haven't had a sudden financial meltdown, but the incremental decline from 2009 onwards has been borne because a) it's been relatively long drawn out, and b) we've had the odd highlight like the Farid season, 2015 cup final, 2016 run to the play off final etc. That's why our crowds are quite frankly fucking amazing. Call it a crowdwank all you like, but to get the attendances we still do after the last decade we've had is astounding. If we could have gone from the full time whistle at Inverness in May 2009 to the current disaster area in one swoop you would have riots on your hands. Regarding moaning without seeing the team play - well that's perfectly valid. One look at the absolute state of our results at the end of last season and over the last month would entitle any Falkirk fan to go radge. You would not have to have seen one second of play to know it was utterly, utterly unacceptable. Any other view is just #truefan pish.

  28. Those comments from the Yorkshire commissioner say it all. The police aren't upset about the kidnap, rape and murder of a defenceless women. They are upset because it is one of their own has been sent down. If Johnson has the slightest backbone, he should have made Priti Patel sack Cressida Dick on the spot yesterday and then promptly sacked Patel himself.

  33. I know this was posted from a conspiracy theorist detournement moon howling perspective but could it just be that having everyone locked up in their homes for 18 months, eating takeaways and watching Dancing on Ice could have a detrimental impact to their health? And it’s 0 surprise that it appears to be in the least affluent part of the country too, the social problems we have in this country are devastating.

  34. I know that this is going over old ground, but there was a very telling comment on Sky Sports News this morning while discussing the treatment of Glen Kamara in Prague last night. “It was boos that Kamara was getting, but we all know the real reason that he was getting booed.”, and this narrative has been repeated on most, if not all, of the back pages of today’s newspapers. Where was this type of take on matters when Shay Logan was booed almost every time he touched the ball in the numerous games against Celtic after he was initially racially abused on the pitch at Celtic Park? It’s only abuse if it’s carried out by non-Scottish fans/clubs, seems to be the way of things.

  40. Agreed. I boils my piss that so many people (police and civilians) trot out that line as a way of dismissing the problems within the force without ever asking the question "So if it's only a small minority of bad cops, why don't the large majority of good cops fucking well deal with them?" If you have 1,000 good officers and 10 bad officers, but the 1,000 good officers don't do anything about the 10 bad officers, then you have 1,010 bad officers.

  42. In my experience, the majority of people wearing masks are wearing useless pieces of patterned shite, bought from the same sort of place that sells mobile phone skins…. Or makeshift snood type things. It’s either that, or wearing them under their nose, scaring the shit out of any vulnerable people nearby, should the fcukers sneeze. Gie’s a shout when Sturgeon bans useless pieces of shit and makes everyone wear proper medical grade type masks, thus giving the vulnerable people you speak of more peace of mind. Get the mandatory wearing of tartan or fake leoparskin polyester £1 shite on your chops to absolute fcuk. Now.
