  10. I actually thought we were ok up till we scored, and we were already playing much better in the second half before the red card. I honestly don't think we are playing anywhere nearly as badly as some fans are desperate to make out. We are unbeaten in the last 4, and we played St Johnstone, Hibs, Dundee United and Aberdeen in that 4. 6 points is a good return from that, and I could have easily been more.

  14. Have to say I enjoyed the game today, decent atmosphere, goals galore, near misses, hard challenges, players winding each other up , Jobby McCall greeting at the end, just brilliant and sums up lower league fitba. Much better than Chelsea v City yesterday in the tourist league. Respect to thistle and there fans anyone who follows there own lead in that city is alright by me

  17. Absolute 100% fair fucks to Tam Courts. Like many Arabs, I had real concerns at his appointment and was worried that he may well just be a post Covid cheap option. The Aberdeen QF aside, I have watched United play more decent football in the first few games of this season that I reckon I saw in all of last, and we are getting results as well. We rode our luck yesterday, but with a bit better composure, and decision making in the last few minutes, or if Clancy had decided to grow a pair and award us the penalty we were due, we could have well won that game. That being said, to have a genuine belief from both sets of supporters that a draw was fair yesterday, sums up the difference between last season and this, where we barely laid a glove on the Gruesone Twosome in Glasgow. We played some genuinely superb football yesterday as well as in in the second half against Hibs, but as has been said before, like Scotland, we just need a finisher. You can’t fluke the results like we have against both The Rangers and Celtic. Our players have limited ability but are being drilled and set up in a way, not just try not to lose (like last season), but to have a fucking go as well, and that has turned into 11 points for 7 games so far, having only lost to Aberdeen away and Herats at home which is no real disgrace. It is a long season, and many twists and turns to come, but so far TC has my backing, and anyone who says he is out of his depth, hasn’t being watching United matches this season. As MG said above, the difference in the likes of Harkes and Pawlett (who is currently our top scorer and who should actually be in 5 for the season so far), is fucking staggering, but also Edwards has been a colossus and on his own saved us 2 points last week against The Fun and a point yesterday with a ridiculous goal line clearance, which really hasn’t been given the recognition it deserves. Anyway, having said all of this, cue an insipid 0-2 pumping from County on Saturday. P2BAA

  18. Just back from a cracking weekend watching Superbikes at Oulton Park. It's fantastic how normal everything is in England. Walked into a pub for my tea, no mask, no test and trace, no pre-booking. Walked into Sainsbury's without a mask and, to be honest, totally forgot about Covid being a thing during the weekend. It was lovely. Oulton was busy, everyone acted like normal humans (or as normal as you can get in motorsport) and there wasn't a mask in sight. I don't think I really realised how much of a pain the masks were until I strolled into Sainsbury's for the first time without it on. Stopped at Gretna on the way home for a pee and it felt like a step back in time having to put on a mask with warning signs everywhere.

  20. The Covid red zone excuse the two are using is pathetic, given Lyon fans were in the away section at Ibrox three days before it was impossible to give access to Motherwell supporters. Are Bayer Leverkusen fans being allocated tickets for this Thursday's game at Parkhead? Of course, these are UEFA competitions, so Covid won't be prevalent in the grounds on those occasions.

  36. In rugby, where they are pretty much lifting this rule from, the player does have to go through various "return to play" protocols if they are identified as a head injury, but I don't think there is any timeframe put on it, and it can be a lot longer (or shorter) than 10 days. To be honest, it's about time football started dealing with head injuries and concussions a bit more seriously.

  39. I'm running out of patience with Stephen Swift and his management of this football club. Yesterday's defeat to Elgin City, whilst a little unfortunate, summed up a lot of the failings we've seen time and again this season. A brand new starting XI, players suddenly brought into the team, players fielded out of position, our best player dropped, a confusing game plan, a laboured performance, and a missed opportunity. When I saw the starting line-up, it gave me the impression of someone who's throwing things at the wall in the hope that something might just stick. Ross Lyon is the fourth player we've deployed at left-back this season while Michael Miller, a player brought in to add some much-needed dig to the middle of the park, started at right-back - he's the fourth one we've used there too. We haven't even reached the end of the first quarter! James Lyon and Ross Forbes were given unfamiliar roles further forward, with neither player looking comfortable and both removed just after the hour mark. Tam Orr, who continues to struggle, was asked to operate as a back-to-goal centre-forward, while Robert Thomson sat on the bench for 67 minutes. It didn't make any sense to me. Elgin are a poor side and were there for the taking and although we had a lot of the ball, it was all a bit sterile and I don't remember us creating many chances beyond Nicky Jamieson's goal and Adam Brown's dismal effort that he somehow hooked over the bar. I watched the manager's post-match interview and it felt as though he was talking about another game entirely. "I don't feel as if we're far away," he said. "We're playing really good stuff - I think the fans will see that. We're a good team [...] I think we just need to keep playing the way that we're playing and defend a bit better and we'll get there." With respect, I disagree! A lot of the problems stem from the summer signings. I'd have to check back at previous transfer windows but I think this could well be the worst recruitment drive we've embarked on. Swift has brought in some good players to the club but on the whole his squad is so unbalanced and lacking in key areas that we look a lot less than the sum of our parts. We've played 14 competitive matches so far this season and we've only seen the same starting XI used in consecutive games once (Cove Rangers and Annan Athletic at the start of the month). How are we expected to build consistency and understanding when the manager doesn't know his best XI and chops and changes things on a weekly basis? We'll just have to batten down the hatches until January and turn over the squad then. But will Swift last that long? It gives me no pleasure to say this but the whole thing reminds me of Scott Booth's time in charge of the club between 2014 and 2015. I see a lot of similarities between the two - a uniformly agreeable appointment and a lot of initial enthusiasm followed by confusion, mediocrity and rancour, with the manager out of his depth, second guessing himself and floundering. The big difference six years ago, however, was that our SPFL status was not at stake; the prospect of dropping into the Lowland League terrifies me. There is no way we should be in this position given the money we've spent so far this season. It is not acceptable. Our upcoming run of games is a presentable one and if we don't see an upturn in form then I think the consequences for the manager could be brutal.

  41. I don’t get this whole “we were lucky not to…”, “they should’ve…” and “if this happened we…” when people try and prove a point. They didn’t happen so it’s pointless arguing it. What has happened has happened and we are where we are as a result. just the same as Montrose weren’t 3 or 4 up and Cove didn’t make their dominance count. That’s football. This “Aye, but we should be worse off than we are” is the most Scottish attitude to your team ever. the attitude should be we did extremely well to pull two late goals back at Montrose and we did well to keep Cove out before taking our chances to win the game. The defeatist attitude is strong at Broadwood.
