  1. Listen, the Rangers support should be thankful for us today. Gave them the chance to see a proper right back in action for the first time in a while.

  2. Must be a sore one to take if you’re Mackenzie Lemon. Brilliant away at Airdrie, MOTM. Then humped on to the bench then out of the squad completely.

  4. A lot of people are making out like this is the Arsenal job. Championship managers last three years if they're any good. Likewise with quality: managers have good and bad spells at different times and different clubs. Wasn't that long ago that Dick Campbell and Yogi's respective stocks were significantly lower. On the subject of stability: it only took two windows and the loss of a couple of players to get McCall to jump ship, and he was Mr Long Term through and through. Nothing in this game is eternal. You take what you can get. The club is developing off the pitch. It somehow managed not to throw a spanner in the works by getting relegated last season. If in a year's time the club is still in this division, and there's matchday bar and better facilities, then that's progress. If people are still talking about swapping managers when Duffy's come in, changed the playing style like people wanted, started playing O'Connor like people wanted, and won all his games, then I don't know what it is that people want. You'd think Hughes had been born in Burns Cottage the way people seem to think he's destined to get the job.

  5. Love playing at home to Celtic. They always show up so full of hope. Today is the day we finally win at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Sent packing every single time.

  8. It's just the same old freeing poor players and then replacing them with even worse. It's happening season after season. We free gomis and bring in hetherington whose murder. We let sammon and dowds go and bring in Wilson and Ruth again no better. We punt Durnan and bring in Mackay who the jury's still out on due to injuries . We punted Doyle two year ago replaced him with the dreadful mercer and now at the moment we're having to play gary miller there as we have no decent backup right back. We're now running about panic signing loan players because the teams gone totally off the rails over the past 3 weeks . The budget will be being well overspent on dross again. You can see admin looming on the horizon as Rawlins bails and deans is going to be left steering his rudderless ship having pissed off anyone that would be willing to bail the club out. What a shambles.

  9. And yet the post that triggered your complete and utter meltdown the other day was someone putting up statistics that more or less confirmed the prevailance of Long Covid is a massive, massive over exaggeration. Nothing was unsubstantiated or fanatical, it came from the most official of sources (The Office of National Statistics) and for whatever reason, someone you clearly have a problem with making the post completely detached your head from your shoulders.

  13. Maybe it's you who has got it wrong? I don't know a single person, family, friends or work colleagues who isn't sick to the back teeth of ongoing and unnecessary state interventions. If we had seen the lowest infection rates etc in the world I could maybe see the levels of deference you seem to think our politicians and experts are due but we've been victim of some of the worst levels of government over reach for the past 18 whilst having some of the highest death rates in the world.

  19. That was a really strange game yesterday. If absolutely predictable given what the Bairns fans had to say. Falkirk kept possession really well. But we were defensively better and showed more quality in the final third. That's what wins you games. Not just knocking the ball about harmlessly. I was amazed by how little a threat Falkirk posed. Nesbitt and Telfer aside there wasn't one player in navy who played well. Michael Ruth looks like the sort of striker we get on loan every season - he works hard, his touch is good, he links play quite nicely. But he doesn't really ever look like he's going to score. McGuffie absolutely stank the place out and I actually thought he had been hooked at half-time, McDaid didn't look on it and - without wanting to repeat what every Bairns fan had said - they looked a lot better with Aidan Keena on the park. Omperon looked okay in flashes I suppose, but no more than that. Hetherington was absolutely horrific. There was a massive gulf in physicality between the teams. I wouldn't go as far as saying we bullied Falkirk, but the physical disparity was a bit like playing Rangers 'Colts' again. Some technically decent, tricky players. But they were almost all easily bumped off the ball by guys like Carsy, McGeever and Buchanan. Listening to Sheerin's post-match would be a major red flag for me if I was a Bairn. He still talks like a development coach. Falkirk need someone to stand there with a bit of arrogance and hammer into players that they should be winning this league, and anything else is a failure. He didn't look to be that fussed because there were aspects of the performance he enjoyed. Can you imagine the likes of Ian McCall giving it that sort of patter after a home defeat to Sons? Anyway. Enough about them. Onto us. For the first 25 minutes or so we looked quite content to keep a solid shape and Falkirk seemed to have no real urgency about them to try and break it down. From about the half hour mark however they upped it and we became dreadful on the ball. Falkirk created a good few openings, although didn't really force Sam Ramsbottom into a major save - with Paddy Boyle's off the line clearance from Aidan Nesbitt the closest they came. The second-half started in the same way. Falkirk had plenty of the ball, we weren't great when we had it, and they created a few openings - but nothing too dangerous. Then one goal kick, one excellent flick from Conner Duthie and the world's slowest finish from Kalvin Orsi later we took the lead. Orsi's finish looks a whole lot better on the highlights than it did at the time. I actually think the criticism of Mutch is a bit harsh. There is barely any power on the shot, but it knocks the post on the way in. It's well placed. That looked to kick us on, and from that point onwards I thought we were good value for the victory. Callum Wilson's goal is superb, and credit to Carlo Pignatiello for the ball in to Wilson. It's very well weighted. The anger about a potential foul from the Bairns fans is mentioned in the highlights, but that's certainly not what I heard. The Falkirk fans around me were more seething at the ease at which we'd scored a second goal. After that we looked comfortable and, had there not been a wild amount of injury time after a really nasty looking head injury to Paul Dixon, would've more than merited the clean sheet. Performance wise Gregor Buchanan and Ryan McGeever were absolutely superb, and I thought Paddy Boyle had another very solid game. His positioning was excellent and he was dominant in the air. Edin Lynch looked decent enough - and offered a threat down the right. Ahead of them Stuart Carswell had another very solid game; and the introduction of all three subs made a difference at the right time. Ryan Schiavone especially stretched a tiring Bairns defence well. Further forward I've taken a real shine to Conner Duthie. He's just such a handful to play against, all full of aggressive running and pace. I wasn't sure why Duffy signed him, I wasn't totally sure why Faz kept him. But fair play. A pre-season and some gametime and he's been like a new signing. We've seen quite a few sides to this Dumbarton squad. We dominated Clyde and East Fife (two teams who we looked far stronger than). We were clinical and well organised against Montrose and Falkirk (two teams who, on paper, looked stronger than us). We showed a good fighting spirit against Airdrie, got punished for not being well organised or clinical against Cove and were played off the park by a far better Queen's Park team. I've no idea what that means for this season. The league is ridiculously tight. But it's night and day from turning in the same performance week-in week-out under Duffy last year. So massive kudos to Faz and Franko for that. I'm enjoying watching Sons again for the first time since the end of the 2018-19 season.

  20. I can finally come and post in this thread now since as of yesterday we brought home a rescue cat. I’d post pictures, but the little thing is currently under the spare bed and I suspect will stay there for quite some time. Stark contrast to her previous life in a house of 25+ cats and then the loud enclosures at the charity. Still I’m sure given time you’ll get to see her (whatever we call her!)

  21. I’ve been attending derbies since 1979. Since 1985 I’ve barely missed one. For the majority of these games United have clearly been the better team. There was that period when the Cobra and the Mongoose ripped the waning Hegarty and Narey new arseholes, the Bonetti era when we also briefly held the upper hand, but mostly I’ve gone to games full of trepidation and hoping the form book goes out the window and we somehow conjure a win. Not today buddy. It’s United hoping for a spawny break, a defensive error from us, a dodgy penalty etc. Courts knows it, the DAB players and fans know it, we are clearly the better team. Now United may well win, just as we have through the decades, but if the 2 teams play to form there can only be winner and that’s The Bold Boys who wear the Dark Blue of Dundee.

  22. See Nathan Austin saying he was racially abused by an Albion fan during the game today. Fucking shite. Hope the fan is identified and banned by all clubs indefinitely. No place for that in scottish football. With this and the Quitongo thing last week, I hope this is more a case of players feeling more empowered to raise these things and not racist abuse being on the increase. Scoring a hattrick is as big a GIRFUY as you can get, but still shite to read when catching up on the days games.

  27. Quick Den Haag 1-0 JOS Watergraafsmeer I'm still in The Netherlands and today I got into the stereotype for the Dutch and cycled from my mother's home to The Hague. Quick were one of the original big Dutch teams who won one Dutch title and 4 Dutch cups. They also once won three Dutch cups in a row, something that since then has only been equalled by Ajax and PSV. Their last main trophy was over a century ago. Like many clubs from back then, they are also multisport. In the last two decades or so they are far better known for their cricket team, who are one of the biggest sides in the Dutch league. Their football team did climb up the leagues in recent years though and they are in the fourth tier now. They very much represent the city's elite. Their opponents today are from Amsterdam and very much represent the elite over there. Very friendly people there from both sides. The ground is lovely with a beautiful old stand and terracing in front of the club house. Great afternoon out all together.

  29. There is no cash in the bank. We are top heavy on the admin side. We can't get rid of anyone without paying compensation due to shambolic signing on conditions. Our team is no better than last season, with the exception of Nesbitt. We are in a state of free fall and still some on here can't see it. Who is responsible for all this and who is accountable ? I think we all know and now it's pretty damning by their silence. I've been harping on for months about Deans (and his hand picked Board of cronies and yes men) plus the Rawlins who have done absolutely nothing to move us forward, apart from maybe start up some form of Academy. Those who were questioning BPM and his bunch of investors, might want to rethink again. Their plans for a Boardroom shake up (plus getting shot of Holt), is beginning to look increasingly likely that they were perhaps the only Group that would have saved this club from the direction its now headed in. It's a shambles at the moment and it isn't going to get better any time soon. if anything, we haven't even seen the worst !

  31. I feel these are relevant: Essentially the people who dislike Scottish devolution are old gammony fucks, with the rest made up of Brexit supporting, Unionist sycophants. The positive is that as soon as these old fuckers get off this planet and stop blocking genuine progression for this country, we can finally move onto being responsible for our own shit rather than be told on the "big ticket" issues (such as foreign policy, welfare or defence) we are somehow "too wee too poor and too stupid" to deal with it.. 34. Just watched Sheerin's interview again. 1) No anger, no fire in his belly, not nearly as upset as he should be. 2) "How do we become better in the final third"? Duh? Sign decent strikers, not shite like Wilson and Ompreon! 3) He's confident in the group - alarm bells ringing, none of us here are "confident in the group". 4) "They're all tough, it's a tough league". Bollocks. It's a shit league and with our resources we should be scooshin' it. His team selections really worry me, Keena is no world beater but he is miles ahead of the rest of our "strikers". We need to hear from Deans and Swinney. All very good them bumping their gums when they have good news to deliver, they need to earn their corn and come out and take the flak when things aren't going so well. And a statement from Rawlins wouldn't go amiss either.

  38. Unfortunately the events of 2012 have shown them they are untouchable. When they died the other clubs, official organisations, media and government panicked then colluded to concoct the lie they didn't die as apparently the Scottish game and society can't function without them. The worst that could happen to them, happened, and remarkably the new lot have come out of it even stronger than the deceased. Hand that kind of advantage to a bunch of vile, arrogant supremacists and this is what you get. It's just going to get worse too as they up their 'we'll teach you to mess with us' revenge tactics for the perceived injustices that never actually happened.

  39. Inspired by @EdinburghLivi's revelation that "Grace Kelly" by Mika was Number 1 the last time Celtic won at Almondvale, this thread is a chance to relive momentous results by away teams and tremendous musical choices by the British public. What was Number 1 the last time [insert random team] won at your ground? After another outstanding game at Tannadice today, I can reveal that Dundee haven't won an away derby since "Baby Cakes" by 3 of a Kind was top of the hit parade.

  40. Winning games like these against mid table sides last season gave us a good springboard to finish relatively comfortably, so hoping for more of the same off the back of this afternoon's result. Never doubt Shinnie as a false nine for a second. Another Martindale masterclass.
