  1. Thanks for all your kind wishes folks. Had my first op this morning with a second, bigger one to come later this week. They're no hanging around. It went well and I'm sitting up in bed enjoying a festival of football tonight. Copa America still to come. Doped up to the eyeballs on the good shit and feeling much more positive than the previous 48 hours. Thanks again everyone. You can't begin to imagine how much you've all lifted my spirits.

  2. Because we (as in society) aren't. Someone said it yesterday - this place is a bit of an echo chamber. It is, after all, a site for Scottish football fans. I'd wager 80%+ of the members here are white, straight men aged between 18 and 40 who like going to the football, going to the pub and are at the age where they spend a lot of time with their mates. It's why when you come on here pretty much the only opinion you see is folk wanting an end to lockdown restrictions. Society isn't like that. There are consistent polls that show support for continuing of restrictions and even calls for another national lockdown. That's why the Government aren't in any rush. It's not hurting them politically.

  5. I absolutely hate this "greater" phrase. The people want 2019 normality. Nothing less.

  6. I can only speak for myself here, but I’m not a fan of lockdowns at all - I suffer from anxiety / agoraphobia so not being able to do the things I normally do (which are basically just having a routine of seeing my friends / family & travelling to the football - I support a Highland League team) - has set me back massively, to the point where I can’t even walk down the street without suffering from panic attacks. I’m currently receiving face to face CBT therapy (which was one hell of a struggle to get in itself, I had to go private for that) I’ve had my first jab & got my second one next month. Because of my anxiety I’m exempt from wearing a face covering, & I’m fearful of getting hassled out in public / travelling on the train because of this. Not trying to make this all about me because I’m sure others have suffered way more, whether because of the virus or what it’s done to them mentally, but I really think after someone’s received their second dose, they should be allowed to decide how to live their lives again, whether that’s taking precautions like wearing masks or not. Long story short, normality needs to come back ASAP in my opinion, because I can’t even begin to imagine the damage to people’s mental health that’s already been caused, & the scaremongering from people like the media & Deepti needs to be nipped in the bud. Apologies for the ramble.

  9. Of course the feelings of lethargy / fatigue being attributed to long COVID have nothing to do with folk sitting on their arse putting on weight for a year from eating shite, doing no exercise and staying up too late every night and possibly drinking too much cause they have no work in the morning…

  14. One of my best pals from school is on the groundstaff there and he said they've been asked to work games at the Rock. He's none too pleased about it! Anyway. Onto tonight. It was a typical friendly. We scored a neatly worked goal thanks to good work between David Hopkirk and Kalvin Orsi. EK, to their credit, looked a threat - and got the leveller from the penalty spot. Edin Lynch kind of collided with their player. Everyone thought the referee had blown for offside. But he pointed to the spot. In the second-half a raft of subs came on. The only one I recognised was David Wilson, formerly of Elgin City who came on and looked steady at RB. Cammy Elliot for EK was giving us a torrid time. Especially the trialist LB who struggled big time. He turned him inside out and fired over a cracking cross for Craig Malcolm to nod in. Sam Ramsbottom made a cracking point black save from Malcolm and David Hopkirk had a goal ruled out for offside. And that was about that. I fired some ratings to my bother. So here they are for you lot. Ramsbottom - 8 commanded his area really well Lynch - 6 runs funny McGeever - 6 classic McGeever early in the season season. Slack touches Buchanan - 7 - The same as when he left Trialist LB - 1 - Hilariously bad. Duthie - 7 - Best I've seen him play. Looks incredibly fit. Pre-season has done him the world of good. Paton - 7 - Gains a point for a glorious slide tackle. Hard as nails. Geggan - 3 Looked like a guy who has barely played in the past year. A second late to everything. Stokes 6.5 - Very neat and tidy. The sort of player we lacked last year. Took a knock and went off early in the second half. Hopkirk - 8 Our best outfield player imo. Set up the goal, very quick, tricky, direct and hardworking Orsi - 7 - Will be a decent asset to us based on that. Works hard, strong and scored a poachers goal. Encouraged by his showing.

  17. Brian has always been an advocate of "it's the website owner(s) who are responsible for the content which the users post". Yet, when he allows someone to post derogatory articles on his website's news page he acts innocent and attempts to wash his hand of it. f**k off, you sycophantic arsehole. I'm aware the website doesn't reflect the views of the club, however when your URL equates to 'Dunfermline Athletic Football Club .net' you should be careful with what you allow to be posted on your news section as people from the outside can view things differently. They've absolutely no way of knowing that SP is a forum poster and the articles are dreadful opinion pieces. My advice for the future direction of .net - get it in the bin.

  20. You talk some shite, fanboy. The business is a builders merchant or some such IIRC? Demand and prices through the roof and your biggest issue is keeping up with the customers. Comparing that with a nightclub that hasn’t traded for 15 months or a restaurant running at restricted capacity? Spare me.

  21. Presumably you’re also happy about the irrevocable damage that Sturgeon’s Covid restrictions are doing to Scottish businesses then? Given that we continue to have the toughest restrictions in the U.K., allied to the Scottish government’s withdrawal of Strategic Framework support for Scottish businesses that are required to stay closed (or are otherwise adversely affected) by ongoing government restrictions, unquestioning support for Sturgeon and the Scottish government’s Covid policies (no matter how punitive, illogical, self- contradictory or unwarranted the restrictions are) implies support for the enormous damage done to Scottish businesses, particularly in the travel, entertainment, hospitality, live music and events sectors. I noted with interest Andy Burnham’s comment that the Scottish government should be compensating English businesses after Sturgeon’s ‘ban’ on travel to Manchester / Salford (which have comparable Covid rates to Dundee). You’ve got no chance, Andy - Sturgeon is no longer even compensating Scottish businesses for the adverse effects of her draconian restrictions.

  27. That’s a horrific attempt at an ‘apology’. There’s just so much wrong with it. Not surprised, I had an issue with ParsTV around Feb/March when the games kept cutting out for everyone. He told me it had to be my setup, despite the fact I’d used the same setup all season and others were having the same issue. I was honestly trying to make sure they were aware that the stream kept dropping and rather than saying “sorry, we’re looking into it” he just told me it had to be my fault. Finishes his post by asking for ideas on how to go forward with the site? Shut it down, or let someone who understands that racism, sexism and homophobia are unacceptable run it going forward. That would be progress.

  31. Watched the interview and took some notes… -JMcG opened by talking about expecting to use 3 or 4 formations this year. Spending a good amount of time with the (lots of) new players going over squad expectations and tactics. Expect the same attacking/passing style game. -McKay out till after Clyde, Musonda out until late-July or early-August and Lang out for another week or so (very early-July). -On new players… —Berra, experienced coach on the field, strong on set pieces, decisive and aggressive, left sided and will take the LCB next to Dick at LB. training four across (Tumilty/Bene/Berra/Dick) —Lang, good experience against players like Sammon and Dowds where he looked good, strong, has been tracked by us for a while and has a “winning mentality”. —Dick, was on the list the team created after deciding to go full-time after it became clear that KMac was gone. He was the third choice or so, and has surprised JMcG with just how good he is. Sounds like he’s expected to develop beyond this level. —Connolly, small/short/fast/pest, a near replacement for Armstrong, good crosser. —Zanatta, didn’t get much time last year and is behind on his condition and form, but working to catch up, experienced working with Dick (insert own joke here), very quick. -Raith will be selective on loans, need best value for £. Expect “another couple”. -“Couple of guys up on trial right now”. -“One or two more signings”. -in the preseason, the young guys will get plenty of chances. Specifically name checked Coulson, Arnott and Mahady, but not Bow. -Standards are important in avoiding a 2nd season slump. -Scouting opponents is very important at this level, and switching to a full-time side helps JMcG have the opportunity to get to some of the weekday evening games that used to occur during practices when we had part-time players. -Came back to suggest 2 or 3 formations this year. Emphasis on a month of training before the season to drill tactics and learn via repitition. Players need to automatically know their 3 or 4 options in any circumstance when playing our style. -Losing Hendry is a minus, no matter how you spin it, but Matthews, Spencer and a Tait all learned from him and are stepping up. -With the extra CB’s, we can easily change between say 3 and 5 back during a game. It affords us tactical chances we didn’t have the last couple of years. - We’ve had nearly three years now of evolving the flowing play culture, and are still always looking to learn and develop. We look to develop our flowing , attacking style more. -JMcG is now learning from how opponents respond to us and plan against us versus from others teaching/mentoring him. -The Davo testimonial game versus Hibs will be just another pre-season from the player rotation point of view. Davo has something on the horizon in football. -Pre-season is a time to float players around, expect to see everyone and don’t draw any conclusions from the line-ups.

To be fair, as it’s a school for children with additional support needs, we have a number of children with quite serious underlying health problems and this child was one of them. Thankfully, they went on to make a full recovery after some time in hospital.

  42. My final post in this thread is just to say thank you to so many of you for being so very generous. Unless any more donations come in, the final total comes in at a few pence shy of £4,200. That is a phenomenal amount and will help lots of other young people who have life-threatening illnesses. A significant proportion of that total comes from you guys yet to the best of my knowledge, none of you ever met him. It is the mark of both madwullie and you guys that you can achieve something like this. His funeral was last week and it was and continues to be a difficult time, especially for his wife and kids. But both she and I are touched and more than a little humbled by all your kind messages and donations. Thank you. Richie x

  43. If madwullie is reading this from the other side, part of him will be delighted by the fundraising but with his P&B hat on he’d be hoping Cardinal Richelieu embezzles the lot and spends it on a cruise round the fjords and getting some home improvements done.
