  1. No, we don’t. We have a guy who wants nothing more than to be part of the club and contribute in whatever manner he can. Now, that straight away makes him a target for those who want to mock or belittle him….be that supporters on a forum, or managers like Paul Hartley. In his voluntary role, Lewis Connolly takes these monotonously regular kickings and never answers back to those supporters or to managers like Paul Hartley. Now many of us would see what he does as blazer chasing or just brown nosing, but when you see how little he gets in return, then it’s none of these things. For Lewis, it’s just him living not his best life, but one he enjoys and one where he does the best he can in a number of different little roles. No, he’s not Clive Tyldesley, and no, he doesn’t earn a six figure salary either. He (thankfully) isn’t David Icke, and if we all made a list of a dozen things that need addressed within Falkirk Football Club, the name “Lewis Connolly” shouldn’t feature on any of them.

  2. Thanks for all your kind wishes folks. Had my first op this morning with a second, bigger one to come later this week. They're no hanging around. It went well and I'm sitting up in bed enjoying a festival of football tonight. Copa America still to come. Doped up to the eyeballs on the good shit and feeling much more positive than the previous 48 hours. Thanks again everyone. You can't begin to imagine how much you've all lifted my spirits.

  3. Because we (as in society) aren't. Someone said it yesterday - this place is a bit of an echo chamber. It is, after all, a site for Scottish football fans. I'd wager 80%+ of the members here are white, straight men aged between 18 and 40 who like going to the football, going to the pub and are at the age where they spend a lot of time with their mates. It's why when you come on here pretty much the only opinion you see is folk wanting an end to lockdown restrictions. Society isn't like that. There are consistent polls that show support for continuing of restrictions and even calls for another national lockdown. That's why the Government aren't in any rush. It's not hurting them politically.

  6. I absolutely hate this "greater" phrase. The people want 2019 normality. Nothing less.

  7. I can only speak for myself here, but I’m not a fan of lockdowns at all - I suffer from anxiety / agoraphobia so not being able to do the things I normally do (which are basically just having a routine of seeing my friends / family & travelling to the football - I support a Highland League team) - has set me back massively, to the point where I can’t even walk down the street without suffering from panic attacks. I’m currently receiving face to face CBT therapy (which was one hell of a struggle to get in itself, I had to go private for that) I’ve had my first jab & got my second one next month. Because of my anxiety I’m exempt from wearing a face covering, & I’m fearful of getting hassled out in public / travelling on the train because of this. Not trying to make this all about me because I’m sure others have suffered way more, whether because of the virus or what it’s done to them mentally, but I really think after someone’s received their second dose, they should be allowed to decide how to live their lives again, whether that’s taking precautions like wearing masks or not. Long story short, normality needs to come back ASAP in my opinion, because I can’t even begin to imagine the damage to people’s mental health that’s already been caused, & the scaremongering from people like the media & Deepti needs to be nipped in the bud. Apologies for the ramble.

  10. Of course the feelings of lethargy / fatigue being attributed to long COVID have nothing to do with folk sitting on their arse putting on weight for a year from eating shite, doing no exercise and staying up too late every night and possibly drinking too much cause they have no work in the morning…

  13. 'Cancel culture' is just another right-wing trope designed to stifle....ironically.....free speech. As is the ridiculous term, 'woke'. (TM The Telegraph). Let's be honest about what is going on in the UK. There is a sustained and long term attack from the right-wing media, and backed up now apparently officially by the Tory government, to challenge values that they detest. Diversity, liberalism, progressive values. Generally all of these things and more have been in the sights of the right wing for decades now. Brexit....which was a culture war and nothing to do with economics...opened the door that these people have been waiting for. The straw man used constantly by the right wing is 'freedom of speech'. They'll take isolated extreme examples of what they call 'cancel culture', exaggerate them out of all proportion, and use them to inflame the lowest common denominator in UK society. The aim of the right wing is not to have 'freedom of speech'. It's all about stamping down and silencing anything and anyone who does not represent their poisonous right wing values and aims.

  16. One of my best pals from school is on the groundstaff there and he said they've been asked to work games at the Rock. He's none too pleased about it! Anyway. Onto tonight. It was a typical friendly. We scored a neatly worked goal thanks to good work between David Hopkirk and Kalvin Orsi. EK, to their credit, looked a threat - and got the leveller from the penalty spot. Edin Lynch kind of collided with their player. Everyone thought the referee had blown for offside. But he pointed to the spot. In the second-half a raft of subs came on. The only one I recognised was David Wilson, formerly of Elgin City who came on and looked steady at RB. Cammy Elliot for EK was giving us a torrid time. Especially the trialist LB who struggled big time. He turned him inside out and fired over a cracking cross for Craig Malcolm to nod in. Sam Ramsbottom made a cracking point black save from Malcolm and David Hopkirk had a goal ruled out for offside. And that was about that. I fired some ratings to my bother. So here they are for you lot. Ramsbottom - 8 commanded his area really well Lynch - 6 runs funny McGeever - 6 classic McGeever early in the season season. Slack touches Buchanan - 7 - The same as when he left Trialist LB - 1 - Hilariously bad. Duthie - 7 - Best I've seen him play. Looks incredibly fit. Pre-season has done him the world of good. Paton - 7 - Gains a point for a glorious slide tackle. Hard as nails. Geggan - 3 Looked like a guy who has barely played in the past year. A second late to everything. Stokes 6.5 - Very neat and tidy. The sort of player we lacked last year. Took a knock and went off early in the second half. Hopkirk - 8 Our best outfield player imo. Set up the goal, very quick, tricky, direct and hardworking Orsi - 7 - Will be a decent asset to us based on that. Works hard, strong and scored a poachers goal. Encouraged by his showing.

  18. You were behaving like a smug, arrogant p***k towards a guy who's business has been decimated by all of this. If your business had suffered a fraction of what he's had to put up with you'd show more humility and a lot more empathy. This pandemic has been great for your business. Don't kid us all on with this "I've suffered too" pish. Nobody is buying it after your earlier response.

  20. Brian has always been an advocate of "it's the website owner(s) who are responsible for the content which the users post". Yet, when he allows someone to post derogatory articles on his website's news page he acts innocent and attempts to wash his hand of it. f**k off, you sycophantic arsehole. I'm aware the website doesn't reflect the views of the club, however when your URL equates to 'Dunfermline Athletic Football Club .net' you should be careful with what you allow to be posted on your news section as people from the outside can view things differently. They've absolutely no way of knowing that SP is a forum poster and the articles are dreadful opinion pieces. My advice for the future direction of .net - get it in the bin.

  23. You talk some shite, fanboy. The business is a builders merchant or some such IIRC? Demand and prices through the roof and your biggest issue is keeping up with the customers. Comparing that with a nightclub that hasn’t traded for 15 months or a restaurant running at restricted capacity? Spare me.

  24. Presumably you’re also happy about the irrevocable damage that Sturgeon’s Covid restrictions are doing to Scottish businesses then? Given that we continue to have the toughest restrictions in the U.K., allied to the Scottish government’s withdrawal of Strategic Framework support for Scottish businesses that are required to stay closed (or are otherwise adversely affected) by ongoing government restrictions, unquestioning support for Sturgeon and the Scottish government’s Covid policies (no matter how punitive, illogical, self- contradictory or unwarranted the restrictions are) implies support for the enormous damage done to Scottish businesses, particularly in the travel, entertainment, hospitality, live music and events sectors. I noted with interest Andy Burnham’s comment that the Scottish government should be compensating English businesses after Sturgeon’s ‘ban’ on travel to Manchester / Salford (which have comparable Covid rates to Dundee). You’ve got no chance, Andy - Sturgeon is no longer even compensating Scottish businesses for the adverse effects of her draconian restrictions.

  31. That’s a horrific attempt at an ‘apology’. There’s just so much wrong with it. Not surprised, I had an issue with ParsTV around Feb/March when the games kept cutting out for everyone. He told me it had to be my setup, despite the fact I’d used the same setup all season and others were having the same issue. I was honestly trying to make sure they were aware that the stream kept dropping and rather than saying “sorry, we’re looking into it” he just told me it had to be my fault. Finishes his post by asking for ideas on how to go forward with the site? Shut it down, or let someone who understands that racism, sexism and homophobia are unacceptable run it going forward. That would be progress.

  41. I had a debate/argument with a colleague about Covid today. I posted a story in our channel about Bumble giving everyone a week off, there's an injoke in our team about a colleague who used Bumble, and he responded that young people dating in the pandemic were being selfish. So I said that young people have been the group most adversely affected by the NPIs, they are the ones taking the brunt of the job losses and disruption to their education, they are the ones taking the impact from the pubs and nightclubs being closed and yet the younger generation have broadly done what's been asked of them. Perhaps being a bit facetious I said they should get a medal. He said that his niece caught Covid by mixing so he didn't care and he didn't feel sorry for them, he felt sorry for people from the Second World War and went on a big rant about it. COmpletely mental. He is the biggest moaner going as well, every time he complains about anything I'm going to remind him he's in a better spot than Anne Frank.
