  2. It is with great sadness that I inform you that P+B semi-regular madwullie (Woody in real life) died yesterday at the age of 44, after a long battle with cancer. I'm sure a few of you are thinking "who?", and whilst not the most prolific of posters, he did enjoy sticking his oar in on the politics forum, as well as forays into the FIFA, parenting, chess and quiz thread. IRL, Woody was one of the warmest, soundest, cleverest and funniest people you could ever hope to meet. Woody leaves behind a wife and two sons, and we all miss him dearly. Edit: For those just reading this, so many of you have been so generous already, but in case anyone out there wants to donate to Mr + Mrs madwullie's chosen charity, here's a link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/woody-willowfoundation ... thank you.

  3. Cheers KB. I actually mentioned it to his wife and she mentioned the Willow Foundation, which organises special events and things for cancer sufferers under the age of 40 (which is how old Woody was when all this kicked off). I'm going to set up a Just Giving page over the next couple of days. I'll post the link here for anyone who wants to donate. Thanks again.

  4. Cheers for the kind words everyone - it really means a lot. Mrs madwullie gave me the go-ahead to post this here. I'm going to save this thread on my PC so that his boys can read it when they're a bit older (just in case there's another cull).

  5. Maybe we should all just call a halt to the chatter about it on here and leave him to get better soon? Good Luck Kieran.

  7. To be frank I think it's appalling and unprofessional that club employees' absences and seemingly medical problems are being leaked for discussion by strangers. This kind of information should be totally confidential in any professional organisation.

  9. Lynch was brought in by Alloa on the eve of last season as cover and played the first few games at CB when we were very short in defence. A pretty tough start for a youngster with very limited experience and he wasn't helped either by the fact that Neil Parry got injured too and we had a kid in goals. Lynch looked a bit raw which was understandable in the circumstances but strong in the air and solid enough, although maybe not as mobile as you'd like. When we got other players back he didn't really feature but he then reappeared at RB for a game at QoS later in the season when we had a number of players out. I wasn't expecting much as he'd looked very much like a stopper CB when he'd played but he actually did pretty well that day and had a couple of Shaun Rooney style powerful runs down the flank. Obviously he has moved about without playing a lot of first team football and I'd say that's what he really needs now. There are attributes there to work with and games and experience will hopefully see him develop and do well.

  11. ANNOUNCEMENT First up, as Cardinal has started a thread that we have all seen regarding madwullie. I, shall take this opportunity to give my sincere condolences and outright sadness for his family, in particular his wife, who was not born to love him, but actually chose to love this man. I'm sure we can pause and think for his family today. I post this in this thread as, I believe we are a wee community within a larger wee community. As madwullie was part of us during his posting life, we have decided to rename the Super Cup to 'The Madwullie Super Cup' Be good stay safe. RIP madwullie

  13. I think it is working, that's why there's pushback. Show Racism the Red Card has achieved absolutely nothing at all. It's the very definition of a tick-box exercise. But taking a knee is making shitty people uncomfortable, and that's how you know it's working. Men they idolise are standing together as one and putting on a show of contrition, submissiveness, supplication, whatever, to make their views clear. That sight is making all the right people squirm. Rather than acknowledge why they're uncomfortable they deflect onto excuses, with the favourite being taking a knee isn't about racism, it's about a hard left agenda. I'd laugh, but people who should know better are giving breathing space to this idiocy. Almost all of the anti-racism work done in the UK so far has been "ok you can be racist, it's a free country, can't have any thought police here, just don't do or say racist things in public." It hasn't stopped anyone from actually being racist, though maybe over time successive generations are a little less likely than their parents to hold racist opinions. A lot of activists say that all we've done is sweep racism under the carpet. They used to know who was racist and now they can't tell, but the prejudice and discrimination is still there. Some have said they preferred it when racists called them names because they knew the people who didn't do that were probably alright. Worth noting, those who say they want to move on from it never suggest an alternative. They just want to stop being made to feel uncomfortable and they don't give a shit about tackling racism.

  18. Regardless of individual people's opinions on the signings. Old/young/good/bad It's a great time to be alive! Imagine going into a preseason and potentially the league Cup with an actual fully signed team! For years we have scrambled about picking up the scraps then scraping through the season with a cobbled together team of square pegs in round holes! Faz clearly has a plan, whether that plan works time will tell, but what he has brought is positivity which is great, and it's clearly enough to sell the club to the players!

  20. Outdoor transmission accounts for less than 1% of cases. People are knicker wetting about the fanzones and Hampden. There is no justification for there being no fans come the 1st game of the season. The elderly and vulnerable are double dosed. Fans (of some amount) should have been back long before now

  22. Mum and baby came home last night after she put on 100 grams in 24 hours so positive news. I have to say doctors and midwives were very supportive of ditching the breastfeeding if it wasn’t working. I stayed up to do two feeds last night so mrs dons_1988 got her first real sleep in 2 weeks and she’s transformed this morning. I now just need to remind her I’m not doing that every night

  27. David Hopkirk was midway through a two-year contract with Stenhousemuir before it was mutually terminated, allowing him to join Dumbarton. I don't think anyone was particularly fussed to see him moving on from Ochilview - his 2020/21 season was blighted by injury and inconsistency and, off the top of my head, I don't really recall him turning in an outstanding performance. He can be a capable player, good at running with the ball down the right flank and chucking in crosses, and he was one of our better players in 2019/20 (although that really isn't saying much) but he's guilty of drifting through matches and can be a frustrating player. Who knows, maybe a change of scenery might do him the world of good! I hope he does Dumbarton a good turn.

  34. His finest hour! Top stuff. Maybe whilst we are talking about pointing his family in this direction we ought to consider keeping Mrs madwullie away from that thread [emoji38] Some boi tho, to be so close to the end of a long battle and still coming on here and posting with humour. Even when it results in a loss, its always inspiring to see someone who fights to the end.

  38. You've forgotten about the public health psychos own flip-flopping every two minutes between 'the third wave in Britain will overwhelm us all!!!111!!!' to 'Britain must send its vaccines to the developing world now that vulnerable groups are covered, anything else is unfair!!!!1111!!!!'. All while the economy that underwrites everyone else (and eventually) their livelihoods as well is shredded by their ridiculous shrieking for restrictions.

Like it or not, Ayrshire is the Fife of the West Coast Ayr = Kirkcaldy Kilmarnock = Dunfermline Irvine = Glenrothes Both have various shithole former mining villages filled with angry bigots and junior football teams The only real differences are the accents and Fife's junkies didn't get their own TV show
