  5. Looking forward to seeing what Hopkin can do with his own squad , the atmosphere in the team and support staff since he has taking over is miles ahead of where it was when he took over as well as the set up being much more professional , players are saying training is more enjoyable that he is very encouraging supportive and knowledgeable , last couple of clubs he has been at were in poor shape within the boardrooms and not in best financial situations , this is his chance to show what he can do with a decent budget and supportive owner

A concerted campaign to force change by withholding season ticket and other funds until there is a (real) clear out. Too many ball bags will renew on the first day because they’ll want to be first in when the restrictions are eased. I’ll probably find something else to do on Saturday’s. They’re welcome to this team.

Congratulations to: @Scottydog - The Raith fan whose faith in his side being a 'surprise package' was well placed (and yet still underestimated them lol). @Robbo63 - The Honest Man whose indecisiveness over Dunfermline and Ayr didn't cost him anything. @L. Brilliant - Another Rovers fan, who was just 2 points off Hearts' final points lead, so not bad at all. As for runners-up, 8 posters managed to equal last year's best of 14, so good efforts from: @Ludo*1, @Les Cabbage, @San Starko Rover, @Chubbychops, @Snafu, @DG_RRFC, @VinnyPar... oh, and @RossBFaeDundee. Just like in the league, Raith overperform! Considering the amount to which people (myself included) underestimated Raith, maybe that isn't so much of a surprise. The biggest hiccups for folk were obviously Raith doing really well, as well as Ayr not being near the same level as the past couple of seasons, and Queen of the South's sudden rise from being rubbish. A weird amount of people accurately guessed that Arbroath would finish 7th, perhaps it was destined. As for worst of the bunch, @Day of the Lords managed a mighty 30, not eclipsing last year's biggest of 32, but damn big, though I'll admit it doesn't really count since I swapped Falkirk for Hearts in it (it was made in July tbf, don't even remember if Hearts were confirmed doon at that point). As for fully legimately rubbish predictions, @Stoo61 and @eindhovendee both finished with 28 points each, so well done lads. Thanks for taking part!

  19. My opinion also but maybe I’m a bit blinded by traditionalism and I will always stand up against those who bash Central park and Cliftonhill- yes they have their faults and the criticism is somewhat justified for lack of improvement in facilities. Edinburgh and Cove are in the senior game on merit but in terms of match experience it’s like watching a game at the sports centre.

  20. It has all been said by others but I just wanted to add my own appreciation of Stephen Dobbie, the man and player. We will never see a player of his calibre playing for Queens again. He is also a top man. I vividly remember having a brief chat with him when he was playing for Swansea. At the time, I was living on Wirral and Swansea had a cup match at Prenton Park in 2010. The likes of Dobbie and Scott Sinclair played that night, with both coming off the bench. I sat with the Swansea fans and heard many of them say complimentary things about Stephen Dobbie. It is not only us that appreciates him and his talent. As the players were doing their pre-match warm up, I gestured to Dobbie who came towards me. I informed him I was a Queens supporter and he was a legend. He gave me the biggest smile said he loved the club and went on to stroll through the game when he was introduced in the second half. I have many happy memories of him in a Queens shirt, watching his sublime skills in action as well as his exquisite finishing. There are too many highlights to choose from but every goal he scored was special. I feel so grateful and privileged to have witnessed such a talented player play for my club. Thank you, Stephen.

  23. Torn by this. As an ex Highland League supporter I want Brora up. Kelly would keep the pyramid churning and I'm strongly behind that, leaving the whiff of nouveau riche to one side. Brechin I always love going to as an away day. Must be close to being the ground I've seen Falkirk at 3rd or 4th most often! So voted for Brora but I mean none of the others any harm, and completely sympathise with the BC fans.

  24. If racists didn’t exist at our level perhaps have a point but they do. Some of the personal abuse dished oot about players or staff has been brutal. Better they are doing something than nothing and anyone who uses terms such as woke and virtue signalling to describe action against these things, are perhaps more interested in ignoring the problem than finding solutions.

  25. It’s Brechin for me. A class away day . A lot of good people at the club despite all the Brechin bashing going on . The essence of the club goes way further than the last 4 years which a lot of their critics like to pigeon hole them. The debate over the pyramid system should go beyond “get Brechin in the bin”. I do feel Brora are getting well underestimated in all of this particularly when the MSM are all in with “Barry Ferguson’s team” . No excuse needed now for the Daily Record to get Barry’s opinion printed on the second back page on the next Old firm game.

  27. These Falkirk TV interviews are just a waste of everyone’s time man. Club is an absolute mess and Holt is getting asked shitebag questions for him to easily step through without a fuss. Also, the cheek to constantly go on about the team being young when you were involved with signing them at a crucial point in the season. It’s not even like they are our young players that we are developing, we are getting zero benefit out of these players. They aren’t good enough just now and they won’t be with us if they become good later. Hopefully it’s all over come Tuesday night and some sort of purge can begin. Otherwise, this club is well and truly fucked.

  31. Falkirk TV borders on state broadcasting pish. Seemingly unwilling or terrified to call us out for being unbearably shite. On top of that, asking constant soft-ball questions which even dimwits like M&M could skirt their way around answering properly, or that Holt just smiles at whilst reciting The Great Book of Riddles.

  33. Excellent defensive performance from us today. Let Hibs control the ball but they failed to get behind us at all in the second half. You see the difference between Porteous and the likes of Kerr there too. Both are willing to take on low percentage passes - the difference is Kerr does it in the opponents final third when it might create us a scoring chance. Porteous does it in his own box. Thought our back three were superb - won basically everything and the ones they didn’t get to they made it too hard for the striker to get anything worthwhile on. Great to see Murray Davidson on the park as well.

  35. Not sure I buy into the theory that because a lot of fans disagreed with John McGlynn's team selection against Dunfermline in April 2011, and then again versus Hearts in April 2021, that he always makes strange decisions in big games. Is the suggestion that we've literally not played one big game under his stewardship in that time? Because we have, and we've done okay in some of them, so I'd say some folks memories are very selective. Can McGlynn be criticised? Of course he can, if you're looking for things to pin on him. Having no back up full backs is odd, hoping we could rely on Davidson and Mendy when we were already short of McKay in that central area was a mistake, as was recruitment further forward. Yes we needed bodies up front, as Vaughan is held together by hope, prayer and sinew and Ugwu also started the campaign injured, but we now have an abundance of (poor) forward players sitting on the bench, while a dearth of options further back is in the process of derailing us. As for Mendy, he was dreadful against a terrible Cowdenbeath team earlier in this campaign, and while judging him in a one off encounter versus the Blue Brazil is as knee jerk as one versus Hearts, I'd say he compares less than favourably to Ross Perry in a Rovers jersey, a central defender who was stinking for us, and looked less than capable while dribbling down the leagues until eventually reaching his proper level at Darvel, so no, I've no faith that Fernandy could compete at a level or two below. As for the playoffs, they're a coin toss, but winning two or three coin flips in a row is fairly tricky, which is why second was probably vital. I'm not entirely sure why Ross Matthews is so important to us, but he really is. He doesn't have a specific attribute which makes him stick out. His passing and tackling for example are all fine, but equally, there's nothing about him which is poor. He brings a balance to that midfield that no-one else can supply alongside Hendry, and can probably drive us up the park from deep more than the alternatives, and as someone pointed out a while back, we win so many more games with him than without him, that it can't just be a quirk. It's maybe also telling that all the games we lost heavily in this season, Dunfermline, and twice v Hearts, he wasn't available. We've also been pretty poor since he dropped out, the Arbroath draw, Alloa and Queens wins and Dundee and Hearts defeats might have generated an okay-ish amount of points, but in general, the performances were all between "meh" and "terrible" which is a concerning recent trend. That could all turn around though. Davidson will definitely win his appeal and will start on Tuesday as long as there's no weird thing about appeals being listened to across a bank holiday weekend, and all being well we could knock Dunfermline out and take momentum from it, but there's a reason no-one has ever got promoted from below second, the odds are stacked against you. Regardless, whatever happens, it's been a pretty good season in general, with a load of stand out moments that has surpassed our expectations, and while it might peter out, who knows, it might still end up with us laughing at John Hughes being relegated by a last minute Lewis Vaughan goal. We can all hope.

  38. I mind when we won the 2nd div back in 2001 yer man the stadium announcer (max?) started to read the scores out at half time in trophy day. He got half way through the first score (Arbroath v.....) and then went "ach who cares?" to huge cheers from the JHS. It was a cathartic day.

  40. In a promotion/relegation play-off? No, never in our history. In any kind of play-off? Yes, on two occasions. - In 1898, we needed to play Partick Thistle in a play-off game to decide who would finish in 7th place. Dundee won 2-0 with goals from Bill McArthur and John Malloch. - In 1919, we played Cowdenbeath in a two-legged play-off final in the Eastern Division, as we weren't allowed in the SFL due to travel costs during WWI. Dundee won both games, 3-1 on aggregate, to win the 'championship'. So technically we're 100% in play-off games we've played in so far. Edit: Still the case after this, so just for posterity: - In 2021, we defeated Raith Rovers 3-1 on aggregate over two legs in the Scottish Premiership play-off semis, and went on to defeat Premiership side Kilmarnock 4-2 on aggregate in the play-off final to gain promotion.

  42. Whilst I see where you're coming from, I don't really think the two comments are comparable in terms of seriousness - imo, calling a sex offender a sex offender is one thing, but egging a previously suicidal man on to finish the job is a totally different ball game. It's not tit for tat. Tiffoney, Goodwillie, Lithgow, Thompson etc have committed a gamut of offences and are extremely lucky to be allowed to play football again. I'm not saying they should be called beasts or paedo's as some kind of penance, but they'll be fully aware that their previous actions will result in hatred. They put themselves in the position to be abused, and are fully aware of the consequences. If it's affecting their mental health, they should take a break from the game or perhaps play at a lower level, with less exposure. It's not ideal, but these men know the nature of people. David Cox has done nothing wrong other than being an aggressive player that suffers from serious mental health issues. He should be welcomed and encouraged to play the game. Comments about his previous attempted suicide should be off the table, full stop.

  43. St Johnstone stole our form when they ended our unbeaten streak and just continued it on. If it was them beating any other club to European football I'd be over the moon as it's a phenomenal story and from what I can see a lovely bunch of guys getting what they deserve. Torn between being happy for them and excited to see where that team goes next season, and being a grumpy git and pissed off since we're losing out

  44. A lot's been said about our style of play under Alexander - but I would take today's sort of game any time. Play some decent stuff, get in front, tighten things up and score the winner when the opposition are huffing and puffing in pursuit of an equaliser. I was impressed that we looked quite up for it today - really didn't expect that. Keeping a clean sheet when Kyle Lafferty is on the opposition team should trigger a double win bonus as it's very rare. I think Cole is really decent and is capable of becoming better - if I could keep one player in this squad, it would honestly be him (with Kelly a very, very close 2nd) And we're now in the right place to keep St Mirren's 3 decades of hurt going
