  1. Love when people insist they're not bigots while endorsing people who say people like me are paedophiles.

  2. Even the March of the Day Facebook page put up a status yesterday reporting the news. I made a pretty terrible but relatively inoffensive joke about how Phil was a big part of Ancelotti's AC Milan team of the mid 2000s. Have just checked Facebook for the first time since and this has made some people very angry. Good.

  5. I see the usual sycophantic twats are giving it "All those saying they don't care sure seem to care!" Well, I don't care that he's dead. I don't care that people are sad about it. What I do care about is that, for me and everyone else I know that's ever lost a parent or partner, the first few days are taken up with sitting in a GP's waiting room for a death certificate, taking it to the register office, going to the funeral directors, checking insurances and bank accounts to make sure you can pay for what's coming next, booking and paying for a reception, contacting dozens of people to let them know and doing a hundred other chores. If you're poor it means doing these things without a car and at a cost to yourself that you can ill afford. You'll probably need to squeeze it in among work and other responsibilities, like looking after your children. It often involves cancelling benefits (they will absolutely come for you if you don't), clearing out a room in a care home or sheltered housing and making arrangements for other elderly relatives to get cared for. These privileged, pampered, self-indulgent b*****ds will get all of this provided for them, and more, entirely at the expense of everyone else in the UK, including people who rely on food banks to feed their families. They have a standing army of flunkies who will take care of every last detail so that they can sit around with the grief - a luxury that none of the rest of us get to experience. Did you know that you pay for someone to follow Prince Charles around wherever her goes carrying a red velvet cushion, which he uses whenever he sits down? I have no sympathy and no respect for any of them or their servile subjects. So what I'm here for is the memes and the jokes, because if we can't beat these bootlicking p***ks we might as well laugh at them.

  9. We already have two pro-independence parties in parliament who could build towards a place of substance. VT's point about moving to a position where you have a main opposition who also support independence changing the nature of the debate is a good one, but the idea that Alba are going to be the party to provide a platform for that constructive evolution is fanciful. Yes, every party has to start somewhere and the SNP were fringe cranks once as well, but considering that the main thrust of people talking up a vote for Alba is that the SNP aren't doing enough to get independence and they should be declaring UDI based on every council by-election they win, these aren't people with an interest in playing the long game and waiting for Alba to become a credible party. These are voters who want independence yesterday, and the internecine warfare in the independence movement which would be unleashed by Alba getting into parliament would put independence further away, not closer; you don't want to wait the years it would take for them to turn into a credible party and stop turning undecided voters towards the union via Salmond's unpopularity. If you're viewing a list vote for the SNP as a waste and want to maximise the number of pro-independence MSPs, you've got a choice between: 1. A pro-independence party which already has parliamentary representation and a small but established voter base which isn't disappearing, have a full set of policies on various issues, a track record of extracting concessions from the SNP and long established support for independence 2. A pro-independence party who were set up five minutes ago, have no representation or established voter base, no policies beyond 'we want independence faster' but no plan for how they achieve that, a leader whose name is irrevocably associated with sleaze (to put it mildly) and is widely despised across several demographics in every part of the country, whose presence in parliament will turn undecided voters against independence. A common factor among the candidates they've assembled is hatred of Nicola Sturgeon and a desire to remove her as First Minister - you could argue that this is a bigger priority than independence for some of them - and there is absolutely zero chance of this party working constructively alongside the SNP towards independence in the lifetime of this parliament. If people have reasons they don't want to go for Option 1 due to disagreements with the Greens over non-independence related policies or other issues with them then fine, but anyone telling themselves Option 2 is a better route to independence is absolutely kidding themselves. It is not going to bring independence closer and every single one of you know this.

  10. Not a position I. a Lanarkshire catholic (the papiest of papes imo), might be expected to be occupying, but here we are. Rangers are taking a laudable stance in support of their player. It's actually a great bit of leadership which will make it easier for other clubs to emulate should their players be on the receiving end of abuse (and if it isn't happening already, it will). There will be those at the club who bridle at the association Rangers and its support have with sectarianism and anti-catholic bigotry, and who want to move wholesale away from that atavistic shite. Their hand will be strengthened by this. Attacking Rangers for having a history of sectarianism in response to this action is weird. Of course they had a policy of not signing catholics and of course that was wrong. I don't think you'll find too many people defending that record on here. But using that as a stick to beat them with while they're showing strong leadership and great support for a player daily abused because of his race isn't constructive. When your first response to an act of social good is shaming then it's generally because the person or people doing the good have stepped out of the role you had assigned for them. It means that you depend on them being the big bad wolf of the story, on whom you can heap blame and opprobrium. It's what we do when we want them to return to the role we had for them. People will live up or down to our expectations. If we want Rangers to reform (and for their fans to become less interested in the integrity of Derry's walls etc) then the best thing to do here is to praise this unconditionally. People move towards praise, but if they don't get it then they'll move towards criticism and become what we criticise them for (a hug is better than a punch, but a punch is better than nothing). So aye, if you care as much as you claim to about bigotry then you're duty bound to give the sticky buns a hearty slap on the back for this. If you're not doing that then you need to own your part in its continuation. E.T.A. 1000th post!!! Expecting a telegram from the Queen if she's not too busy right now.

  11. Arbroath 0 -0 Champions Champions 2 - 3 Queen of the South Dungfermline 0 - 0 Champions CHAMPIONS 6 (SIX) - 0 HAHAHALLOA "You hear that, FOLLOWERS?" "That is the sound of INEVITABILITY." They said I was mad, FOLLOWERS. They said it couldn't be done. They said that DUNGDEE, or DUNGERMLINE or INVERNESS CALEDONIAN DUNG would take advantage of the DUN EIDEANN DESTROYERS, left vulnerable by an ILLOGICAL and MORALLY-SUSPECT decision to place them in this PUB LEAGUE for NO APPARENT REASON. And yet, FOLLOWERS. And yet. I am DELIGHTED BUT ALSO UTTERLY UNSURPRISED TO CONFIRM that, once again, my steadfast predictions of UNRELENTING, SEASON-LONG GLORY for Heart of Midlothian FC have been COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY VINDICATED. And how fitting, FOLLOWERS, that the COUP DE GRACE took the form of (a) the UTTER HUMILIATION AND RELEGATION of the DOG AND DUCK AND ALLOA ATHLETIC, and (b) HMFC's LAUGHABLY INFERIOR "rivals" demonstrating their INEPTITUDE by failing to win the following day. I EAGERLY ANTICIPATE lesser posters' SUPPLICATION when it comes to showing their GRATITUDE towards their FOOTBALLING AND MORAL SUPERIORS, for the lessons they have received this season. I trust they will treasure them, since all supporters of the MCLEOD STREET MAULERS will forget them and their pathetic teams immediately upon HMFC's REASCENSION to the Promised Land. Farewell, FOLLOWERS. You will not see me again (unless Hearts win one of their dead rubbers between now and the end of the season, or you read one of my posts on another thread).

  14. ...aaaand there it is. The folk who spent the Eighties trying to equate homosexuality with rape and paedophilia are still with us; they just got fed up being told to GTF by everyone else. Now that they've found a new subset to lie about, and it's the exactly self-same schtick that's being pedalled. Thought so at the time, but the lad who used to love posting on here about individual cases of Trans people being sexual deviants would absolutely have been doing the same thing about "the queers" thirty years ago, and will find another set of not-normals to libel in the same way once society has moved on from this bullshit.

  16. Can't be arsed looking up the populations of the many Scottish towns, but with the playoffs in place, it was only a matter of time until clubs like ours were spending at least some time in the farmers / fisherman's leagues (unless we had a significant sugar daddy like Cove, Brora or Kelty). Without the historic involvement with the SPFL, the harsh reality is that we should really be on a par (if not behind) the likes of Fraserburgh, Locos etc. It's actually quite amazing what the club has achieved over the years, and we should be proud of it. The first Brechin game that I can actually remember being at was against East Stirling at Firs Park, and since then I've seen us win multiple league titles, be a replay away from the Scottish Cup semis, get to a national cup final, play at the likes of Tannadice on league business etc. If we end up facing the drop then it'll be another bump on one hell of a rollercoaster ride that I have absolutely no regrets about jumping on.

  17. The last one was removed after it all got a bit too personal apparently. I love the headsgone thread, a place where cranial detachments are brought to the masses and enjoyment follows. If we can play the post not the poster this time. For those who don't like this thread, it's simple, don't look at it, don't respond and if you're tagged it's not a tractor beam so feel free not to appear. Let the fun commence...

  18. Alex Ferguson once described a young Ryan Giggs as "a cocker spaniel chasing a piece of silver paper in the wind". Kris Doolan here looks more like one of those dogs with wheels for back legs, dragging himself around the park five yards behind everything that's happening.

  33. Desperately sad news. A total gentleman and did some superb work helping to build the community trust. RIP Duncan Skinner My best mate's dad. One of the most kind people I've had the privilege to know. Absolutely gutted for them, 63 is no age at all.. Duncan didn't get anywhere near the amount of credit he deserved for his work with the AFCCT amongst several other charities. f**k cancer.

  35. That's probably what every other fanbase wants as well, it was hardly Brazil 1970 fayre under our previous two managers either. The squad deserves a lot of credit though for battling away against the backdrop of a raging binfire behind the scenes, and our attacking options being beyond stinking. This season could quite easily have been a 2013/14 style calamity; after today, I think Ayr might just hilariously bail us out again like in 2009/10 instead.

  36. To give credit to Dick Campbell. Faced a Rovers team that was comfortable in possession and dominated, but knew our weaknesses and how to unlock them. He’s often portrayed as a figure of fun but what he has done with Arbroath is phenomenal. Hope you stay up

  38. I'll copy you into my Lowland League message: So he is stepping down apparently due to his club fighting relegation and therefore it's the right thing to do - they were in same boat last year and he didn't go. Last year he knew there was a (borderline) legitimate reason not to have the playoff due to all playoffs being scrapped. This season there is no such excuse therefore he can't be seen to be L1/2 rep on the SPFL board if they intend to end the pyramid playoff and his team happen to be Club 42 at the time. So he goes now! (it's almost comical!). Questions I have include: 1)What are the supposed 'several issues' that the SPFL have relating to the play-offs? 2) Why do they have any reason to believe either club does not meet the criteria - this must have been known long ago bearing in mind they both finished top last season, and had an end of March deadline re this years criteria. 3) Why are they highlighting in their statement how many games each feeder league had played prior to the Leagues being called? Remember that the Lowland League recently sounded out the SPFL about their scenario and were advised (by the SPFL!) to call the league on a PPG basis, and appoint a champion. (how the leagues got their champion really shouldn't be the SPFL's concern anyway). 4) Why can't dates be announced for the play off? A complete fallacy to suggest otherwise. We know the leagues are being based on a 22 game season. Outwith for the cup, there have been no postponements since the leagues returned, and it's highly unlikely the clubs wont achieve the 18 games prior to the Apr 20th deadline. There is therefore no reason why, at the very least, provisional dates couldn't be allocated for the two-legged pyramid play off final. So ask yourself this - why are they so reluctant to do so? Could it be that they have no intention, none whatsoever, in engaging in play-off final chat? All of this, specifically the peculiar wording in at least 3 of the paragraphs in their official statement, stinks to absolute high heaven!

  40. On the TV scheduling thing, the wife brought it up earlier which led to her being reminded, as she had inexplicably forgotten, about my vitriol towards "royalty". Always gives me a tremendous buzz to tell her il accept her post of view if she just gives me one reason why any human should be born deserving of more respect than either her or me. And as a wee extra after the last year, to ask her why we should specifically mourn this guy who made it to 99 courtesy of a life of pure luxury, wealth and the best health care on our buck, whilst over 100k people and counting have died having funded a health care system that was found seriously wanting in the face of a pandemic. Real catharsis in rinsing those who revere the head of the snake tbqh.
