  1. Raith were excellent. I was hoping for a draw but that was never going to happen with Raith playing like that. I really enjoyed the quick easy eye football, the great finishes, the support for each other on the pitch. So pleasant to play like this against your neighbours. It could have been more. Dunfermline didn’t offer very much, and tbh I thought they were pretty pedestrian at Dens with the Dundee FC gift wrapped goal giving defence on display for the first five mins. It will be tough to knock Raith off the second spot, and also tough to beat them over two legs in the playoffs. (I still don’t regret my donation to the Starks Park funds last year!)

  5. Already posted this in the Junior Football forum, but let's post it here as well: I heard through the grapevine here in Dundee that this morning's PWG was really positive and it will shortly be confirmed that there will be 3 leagues feeding into the Highland League from 2021/22: North Caledonian League, North Juniors & Midland League. The Midland League will consist of all current ERJFA North clubs, so including Scone Thistle, Tayport and Forfar West End. Also it looks likely that one amateur side from Dundee will join (Dundee St James were rumoured in another thread, to play out of Fairfield Park), bringing the league up to 18. I won't take things fully for granted until they are confirmed, but this sounds really positive. I'd be delighted if this indeed goes ahead.

  8. Yep, the guy that wrote an arse-licking letter to Fred Goodwin during his time as RBS chief offering all assistance really is a tribune of the left wing masses. The guy that used to make bellowing speeches about the "Celtic Tiger" just before the Republic of Ireland's unsustainable property boom crashed. The same Alex Salmond who used Tory best friends to hide behind parliamentary privelige whilst "revealing" redacted details of the case in the House of Commons. The same Alex Salmond whose proxies have been feeding the Buckhaven Baroness and her cronies attack lines in the Scottish parliament for months. The party has been founded with the sole aim of getting Alex Salmond back into parliament, and there to act as a massive irritant to an SNP government. The Alba Party has managed to unify the fringe loons of the ISP and AFI 72 hours after its formation, but I doubt will make many inroads beyond Salmond himself being elected on the North East list Without Alex Salmond's ego and unquenchable thirst for revenge, you have no Alba Party. If Nicola Sturgeon had been obliged to resign last week, you'd have no Alba Party. He was also quite ready to burn independence to the ground just so he could have his day beaming smugly in the media over Sturgeon's political corpse. He's been smart enough the leave the group as a blank canvas though where puffed up groups of half a dozen pamphleteers can get behind them with their hobbyhorse vision of whatever Scotland's future is to them, and noisily announce it on twitter, feeling vindicated by making to page 8 of the next days' copy of The National. How they expect any of their fine words to be translated into action anytime soon is beyond me. I think they may collide with the electorate in early May and realise that twitter is a very poor substitute indeed for reality. The whole thing is a depressing farce. I certainly won't be voting for them.

  13. The standard in the Championship isn’t great but it is still a decent step up from League One. We’ve had a good season so far but we added 10 new players this season. We were also fortunate in that nearly all McGlynn’s summer signings have contributed massively. In addition, players like Hendry and Armstrong missed large spells with injury last season but have been key players and available nearly all of this season so the team does have quite a different look to last season’s. The likes of Declan McManus and Ray Grant are good examples of the step up. Both amongst the best players at this level last season but both have struggled in the Championship. Alloa fans would like to see Grant benched and McManus has only scored 3 goals from open play all season (2 against us, which I am sure he will add to tonight!). However, Falkirk will clearly add to their squad if they go up and if you get 5/6 good quality additions there is no reason you won’t be competing for the promotion play offs. Whether you have faith in Miller and McCracken to get those signings right is another story, I am not sure what their signing record has been like.

Look Mr. Leighton, I don't know what you think sideburns are, but... Don't argue with me! Mattingly! I thought I told you to trim those sideburns! Go home! You're off the team! For good! I still like him better than David Preece...

  16. As mentioned on the other thread, Sean Dillon. Might be a long one this. I got a couple of tickets for a Montrose vs Airdrie game back in 2019 and took a guy I know with learning difficulties who loves football as I thought it might be a decent wee day out for him. The guy is a Dundee United fan and asked if he would get to meet Sean Dillon, I said yes and unbeknown to me he filled his wee bag with about 30 pictures and other assorted bits of memorabilia, mainly from Dundee United's Scottish Cup win and asked Sean Dillon to sign them. I was a wee bit embarrassed and thought 1 or 2 would have been alright but this was a bit too much. Dillon on the other hand stood there for a good 45 minutes talking about the final and going through each of the pictures indivually, talking about the players involved and since there was some of the pictures that were signed but some of the cup final squad but not all of them, he said to message him nearer to the time of the cup final reunion last year and he would try and arrange to have the signatures completed. I fully believe that he would have stood there for hours knowing how much it meant to my pal but if I remember correctly, he had to head off to Brechin as he was going to visit an elderly Dundee United fan on his way home. To some folk it might just be a few pictures getting signed but this guy got to spend a reasonable amount of time with one of his heroes and his been nipping my head asking when I'm taking him back to another game[emoji23] TL;DR: Sean Dillon=Gid c**t

  18. Liam Craig. Just an absolute gent of a man. I knew him from his time at Falkirk, and when Honest Saints Fan was going through her transplant in hospital and having an utter shite time of it, he got in touch to say if there was anything he could do to help just say the word. I asked him to make a wee video on his phone with him and Tommy Wright just saying they were thinking of her and it wouldn't be long before she was back at McDiarmid and he went totally above and beyond. She ended up with a 5 minute video with half the squad individually wishing her well, profesionally produced by the media team. I honestly was hoping for a 30 second clip wishing her well but he just knocked it out the park. It really lifted her spirits and was so touching. He also arranged a signed top for her and sent it up and always asking after her. He's a fucking diamond. Indebted to him. I was greeting when I saw him lifting the league cup.

Anyone who has watched us for more than half an hour this season could've told you what would happen when we picked that starting XI Leitch would offer nothing The Chuckle Brothers would set up chances for Dumbarton through basic errors and idiocy We would have no service from the full backs Keena would be isolated up front The lack of urgency whenever we got the ball

  20. I can sympathise with your dads experiences, i get very vivid flashbacks to some things ive seen, in particular I can block out dead bodies etc because you just kinda talk to them or develop wee ways to deal with what you see, you’ve got to be pragmatic and deal with people with dignity (i always just said ‘how would i want someone to deal with my granny?’) but when you see a small child it lives with you forever. Ive unfortunately been to some really tragic things and quite honestly its affected me in ways I can’t really put down in words, got to be careful about details but writing this post is actually helping. I sometimes have panic attacks especially as during one my own wee boy was the exact same age, that night i couldnt move myself away from his cot, theres no logic to it but i just couldnt move. I still cant watch any tv programs even ridiculous american hospital programs when theres a seriously ill kid etc, just because all i get are very detailed flashbacks and start shaking. Im fortunate that my mrs is really good at talking things through but I think its going to be with me for life. Another one that got me was an old boy in his 80’s away on holiday up here and he died, its not so much the sight of the dead body but something the wife said to me ‘he promised he’d never leave me’, I got away from work that night and I was devastated with the impact it’d had on her.

  27. See that Brora Rangers have been announced as champions from the Highland League to take part in the play offs. The intersting point to note here is in their statement the Highland League state the following "The SHFL is a committed member league of the SFA Pyramid for Scottish Football. This commitment brings with it an obligation to produce a champion club to take part in the annual Pyramid Play-offs and, once the appropriate arrangements are in place at Pyramid Level 6, to ensure that play-offs between Level 5 and Level 6 in the North/North-East of Scotland are established." Sounds like the door is wide open for Level 6 feeder leagues in the Highland League

  29. He gets a bit of stick from certain people but a real heartwarming story I feel I should share about Leigh Griffiths. Some of you may be aware I lost my 16 year old daughter last summer, a mate of mine knows Leigh Griffiths and his mum quite well and he, off his own back called LG up and told him about my families tragedy and the wee man gave my mate Chris a pair of signed boots by himself, a signed matchworn Celtic shirt signed by himself and a couple of team mates and a pair of boots signed by Tom Rogic to pass on to me for us to sell or auction for charity in her name. I have these items at home and we are planning a charity fund raising night in her memory in our local once lockdown is over with monies raised probably going to the Mermaid foundation, a charity that helps children who are LGBT and have suffered and have additional mental health issues connected to this, will probably be a race night with a raffle etc and will likely auction these items on the night. Leigh Griffiths did this and donated these items off his own back when he heard of my families tragedy and, by all accounts has made similar gestures in the past without seeking publicity for it, it is something I was incredibly moved by and are eternally grateful for.

  36. Yeah his loan signings are usually excellent. That and his ability to develop and get the best out of players who either haven’t reached their potential or are a bit down on their luck are his biggest strengths. The likes of Tade, Brian Graham and Kevin Nisbet previously and Reghan Tumilty this season. Hopefully he can manage the same with James Keatings and Zanatta next year. The academy is another advantage of McGlynn. Last time he ripped it up and started again. The likes of Laidlaw, Bates, Callachan, Vaughan, Matthews, Mackie and McKay were all products of the system he put in place. This time around we have already sold Bowie who is scoring for fun in the Fulham under 18’s and Tait looks a great prospect with a few younger ones in the pipeline. I won’t hijack the Falkirk thread with any more Rovers chat but I hope Falkirk can get their academy up and running again. You were well known for your production of talented youngsters and it helps give a club an identity rather than an endless line of overpaid mercenaries who you struggle to remember a few years down the line like you have suffered in recent years and we were subjected to under Gary Locke and Barry Smith.

If they’d said “yes I drove to Barnard Castle... to get ahead and sign a deal to get us vaccinations which will be produced here in the hope that we can end this ASAP” surely that would have been well received?

  44. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the next time the rights come up we should really be considering how the channel will promote our game opposed to just the monetary figure. BT offering less money might be more valuable to the game long term due to the fact they put in a substantial amount of effort to promote it (at least in comparative terms). BT might also turn out to be the exact same as Sky should they be the only provider. This is where Doncaster should be doing his homework. What is the best deal for the best exposure? Suckling Sky's teet isn't a positive and Sky have absolutely zero intention of trying to attract more eyeballs. They treat us as a channel filler and nothing more. I don't necessarily blame Sky for that - but we should be looking into other avenues where possible.
