  3. The Scottish Government have done the exact same thing though. Three weeks ago there was a mantra of "data, not dates", and they went as far as to produce a set of criteria for a Level system. Fastforward to today, and there was very little data mentioned, but plenty of dates, and the Level system was conspicious by its absence, given that everyone will be moving at the same time. I think this is the right approach, I'm not criticising it, but I do think it is funny to see people who were playing the "reckless Tories" card now applauding what is basically an identical approach here.

  6. Missed all this today thanks to work and had feared the worst. On catching up I'm pleasantly surprised with the upbeat delivery and language used. Key of course is the vaccines continuing to kick seven shades of shite out of covid and keeping hospital numbers and deaths low. No reason for this not to happen as they seem to deal with any variants with aplomb. Hopefully this is the way we are going to go and not by cases especially with things opening up. On a beautiful day my mood has lifted with todays announcement. Lets hope for this continued positive rhetoric and approach.

  9. Forfar West End should be told to take a hike. There's two options for them (and the rest of the Tayside clubs): 2 League Tier 6 - North Caley and a "Grampian" Super with Aberdeenshire and Tayside divisions below that 3 League Tier 6 - North Caley, North Super, Tayside League. Playing in the East of Scotland is a bit of a joke to the league system, hopefully the EoS clubs reject their application.

  15. Get this idea so far to f**k that it can't go any further because it has nowhere left to go, having gone as far to f**k as it's possible to go. It could be abducted by aliens, be shot forward to the 25th century with f**k Rogers and that wee tweeky w****r or jump from dimension to dimension in some kind of Quantum f**k and it still wouldn't have gone as far to f**k as I'd want it to go. Lower league clubs don't want it. Lower league fans don't want it. The kind of kids who would be playing in a colts team in league 2 or 1 aren't going to go on to be regulars at Rangers or Celtic. The best old firm youngsters will be developing elsewhere. And there has been absolutely no indication from the old firm that they'd be willing to risk their youngsters in meaningful games unless they absolutely had no alternative. Patterson at Rangers may have got a chance in Europe recently, but it wasn't through choice. It was necessity and he wasn't getting much time on the park earlier in the season. Its a non-starter. We need better youth coaching. If we want to give the best kids a proper chance then we need them playing at as high a level as possible. The kind of OF kids who would make up colt sides would be better playing for lower league clubs.

  20. The more I read about the proposal, the less convinced I am of its merits. Firmly in the camp that more has to be done to reduce the massive inequality between the Old Firm and the other forty teams. That to me is simply a no-brainer - it results in a better standard of league competition and facilities, which recruits better players, which in turn helps to develop the young players. In my opinion, this would be far more beneficial. Once you do this, you can start to look at additional helpful measures, such as requiring teams to give X number of minutes to Academy graduates under the age of 21. With regards to the strategic partnerships, these things are effectively happening anyway. Rangers have something like four loan players at Queen of the South. Above all though, it's clear that the fans in L1 and L2 don't want it. Therefore, it shouldn't happen. Scottish football fans need to learn to stick together and put our own interests first. There isn't much solidarity between the supporters of each club.

  30. If McTominay is taking anyone's place in the midfield it should be McGregor's. Jack has been much better for Scotland, offers more defensively and is in much better form. As it is, I expect him to pick McTominay in the back three again.

  31. Few things about the police really. 1. They mostly deal with the shite that life throws at people. They meet a lot of people on the worst days of their life's. They've been battered by their husband or the chap at the door in the middle of the night to say sorry your 18 year old has wrapped their car round a tree and killed 3 people. None of that comes with an instruction manual and how it is dealt with by any given Bobby varies. This is not right but it is how it is currently. 2. It seems to me anyway the days of the police just dealing with crime and the odd accident are very much gone. Most police calls are now to mental health issues and domestic arguments over a lot of shit like facebook disputes with their "baby daddy". 3. Police senior management (not your average cops on the streer) by and large are a lot of careerist yes (wo)men who would f**k over their best friend to get ahead. 4. The covid jag situation is about the police wanting to be vaccinated for their own well being. But equally they are in and out of numerous houses on a daily basis and come into contact with a lot of vulnerable people so the cops will be spreading it. So there is an element of protecting the public in this. I appreciate shop workers are in a similar situation but they won't be in a living room within a few feet of someone for a prolonged period of time. 5. They're are some absolute c***s in that profession. Whether they were c***s when they joined or are now just dead inside from seeing years of human misery I don't know.

  33. To summarise his 'argument' for those who missed it: The old firm youth systems are failing to produce players because they are too busy trying to win leagues and cups to give young players a chance. Therefore it is the responsibility of the rest of Scottish football to allow Old Firm youth players to play regular competitive football so that these players can then go on to play first team football, be sold for millions of pounds and allow the Old Firm to continue to financially bully the rest of Scottish football and maintain their dominance. These players can't possibly be loaned out to lower league clubs because they all play hoofball and therefore it would damage these talents to slum it with part-time clubs, they need to remain in their sheltered environment playing nice pretty triangles away to Brechin to turn into future Scotland stars. I was listening in the car on the way back from work so may have missed a bit, but from memory I think that's how it went. Craig Levein wholeheartedly agreed, obviously. It is an absurd argument to make, if the Old Firm can't produce players given all the advantages they have then that is entirely on them, ruining the integrity of the lower leagues to make up for their own inadequacies is not an acceptable option.

  35. Seems pointless to have a team in the EofS League if they don't qualify for promotion to the LL. If this is the case the application from FWE should not be accepted. EofS and WofS got together to decide boundaries and perhaps time for LL to clarify theirs.

  42. **Fantasy Golf Week 10** The Players A near flawless tee to green performance form Justin Thomas over the weekend was enough for him to hold off Lee Westwood and Bryson to pick up the '5th major' at TPC Sawgrass. His 14th title since joining the tour in 2014, only DJ has won more in that time and he now sits alongside Tiger as the only men to have a major, a WGC and the Players in their trophy cabinet before their 28th birthday. He may very well be peaking at the right time after homophobic slurs and deaths in the family ensured a difficult start to the season. Antoine Rozner followed up a win in Dubai in December with a win in Qatar this week, suggesting that he may be becoming a horses for courses desert player. No fantasy team took a chance on him though and it was left to Detry and Higgo to grab a handful of minor placings and points. Thomas' timely triumph has given the leaderboard a bit of a shake. A poor week for many, but a good one for @Mr Kane and the lemon cafe and @Tartan Dave who have thrust themselves into contention for the Road to Augusta prize, with just 3 weeks and a x1.5 WGC still to play. Standings 627 (12) @J_Stewart 618 (12) @die hard doonhamer 567 (79) @Tartan Dave 562 (119) @Mr Kane and the lemon cafe 512 (12) @alta-pete 503 (---) @lichtie23 501 (---) @Ro Sham Bo 467 (12) @peasy23 457 (119) @Henderson to deliver ..... 367 (30) @Honest_Man#1 366 (---) @Distant Doonhamer Points may be hard to come by this week. After a couple of months of high class fields, we can fit this week's OWGR top 20 participants into the back of an old Honda civic. World no.15 Daniel Berger and defending champion Sunjae Im seem most likely to prevail in the final leg of the Florida swing at PGA National. Host of the 1987 USPGA and the 1983 Ryder Cup when Europe came up just short when looking for what was then a first win on US soil. Designed by Tom Fazio, but more known for a remodel by Jack Nicklaus who incorporated the infamous 'bear trap' strech between 15 and 17. The European tour embarks on a two week long safari to Kenya, with another weak field due to the higher ranked guys switching to the US with the WGC and the Masters on the horizon. With all this complaining I'm doing, it's being held at the appropriately named Karen Country Club.

  44. Unfortunately, their job involves dealing with the utter dregs of society almost every day. That can't be healthy for your mental well-being and it's no wonder some of them lose perspective. That's not an excuse and it's not me trying to excuse any of them. Society has a fair number of utter c***s running about and it's no surprise that some of them are cops.

  45. Absolutely bewildered reading that Tumilty ‘wasn’t a threat’ on Friday night. He was our best player by a mile, got up and down the pitch all night, put a cross onto Ugwu’s foot six yards out early on and onto their defenders arm in the 90th minute. He plays. I have a hope that Vaughan appears from nowhere to start tonight. King and Gullan are the obvious two to drop out, we’ve options for a few more but those two don’t deserve to start. Huge night for us. A win puts us in a very, very strong place for the play-offs, and if we want to finish second I don’t think we can afford to be picking up two or three points from Ayr home/ICT away/ICT home. Hopefully we break the midweek hoodoo.

  46. The SPFL somewhat reminds me of Major League Baseball from 95-08 (and even currently) as wage bill differences are quite large. There's no wage bill cap in MLB, so teams in the larger markets -- New York, LA, Chicago -- usually have significantly higher wage bills than smaller market teams -- Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cincinnatti. This is usually due to their local media deals being worldly higher (the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs all get more than $100 million a year from their local deals, while some teams don't even get $30 million) and having richer owners. But in the last 12 or so years, there's been more revenue sharing, where it's thought that teams like my KC Royals (what my profile pic is) receive a decent amount of cash transferred from Dodgers/Yankees/Cubs etc. As to the wage disparity in Scotland, I don't have the knowledge as to what could be done to improve it, if anything. The OF seemingly will always have an advantage because they can sell 30-50K tickets a match, have a large supporter base and seemingly have large £ backing. That allows them the opportunity to earn even more cash in Europe (what's Rangers made the last two years in Europe? £14 million?). Same to a lesser degree it appears with Edinburgh clubs (and maybe Aberdeen), whereas someone like Kilmarnock, St. Johnstone or Accies can only do so much when you have crowds between 3K and 8K and ownership that is "only" worth £10-20 million (I'm guessing here). From reading the comments, I think there's a bit of lack of respect for what Scotland as a whole is able to do. It's a country the size of South Carolina with the population of Missouri that fields 20 full-time sides. I think that's way more impressive than people here realize. One of the reasons the NFL is insanely popular over here is every team is under the same financial circumstances/restraint with the salary cap and the sharing of the league-wide TV deal. It's why the Packers can compete at the same level as the Giants (whether the salary cap is too low is another discussion).
