  5. ITV news goes on about the crushing success of the vaccine numbers and literally says 'well let's temper this by talking about the variant'. Cat well and truly let out of the bag on how these lunatics are treating the topic there. A pandemic is not some both sides story in which you are obliged to treat 6 fucking cases of yet another bullshit variant as Equally Important News as objective facts that vaccines are demolishing the epidemic as a public health issue.

  7. I haven't had a drink at all this year but reading your posts are pushing me close to a 4 day binge. Not everyone who wants a holiday is a Carling swigging moron and when you've been stuck in the same house for coming up to a calendar year, it's entirely reasonable that some folk want to travel to another country for a break. We're all eager to see the end of this and nobody wants to see our progress hindered, but dial down this shite a bit.

  8. Nice to see no malice aimed at Kerr, he worked extremely hard to make a success of this but ultimately he couldn’t put a product on the pitch and this is absolutely the right decision. A man has poured his heart & soul into a job, and lived & breathed Ayr United but he’s had to tell his wife that he’s now unemployed, football’s a tough gig.

  15. These are spot on. He may well not be interested but he's far and away the most qualified of the semi-realistic candidates. A few posts in this thread have mentioned him being inexperienced. That isn't true - he's been the Montrose manager for over four years, and he's the fourth longest serving manager in Scottish football at present. The job he's done there has been nothing short of phenomenal. Prior to his arrival they had spent more than two decades hovering around the foot of League 2 and the old Third Division. They were bottom of the league when he took over in December 2016. He took them from the bottom of the league into the promotion playoffs in that first half-season, won the league the next season, and then steered them to back-to-back fourth place finishes in League 1. They're currently third. No other club in senior Scottish football have punched above their weight as consistently as Montrose have over the past few years, and most, if not all, of that credit goes to Petrie. We can tout managers with generic experience at a higher level but, for a club in Ayr's predicament, we need a manager with specific expertise in dragging a team out of the mire mid-season and, if we wish to look up the way rather than down in future seasons, having a team perform at what most people would consider to be above their 'natural' level. Petrie has an unblemished record in both areas; Montrose have had the odd sticky patch since he took over but overall he's exceeded expectations in literally every season he's spent as a manager. Darren Young has been mentioned in the same breath as Petrie but he would be a riskier appointment: East Fife have had some brilliant spells under him, but they've also gone on some long barren runs. Which isn't to say that I think he'd be a terrible appointment, but Petrie's track record is on another level.

  16. It may interest you to know that the first tories emerged in england as Jacobites. And again you are right the word tory is an insult, as follows; As a political term, Tory was an insult (derived from the Middle Irish word tóraidhe, modern Irish tóraí, meaning "outlaw", "robber", from the Irish word tóir, meaning "pursuit" since outlaws were "pursued men")[5][6] that entered English politics during the Exclusion Bill crisis of 1678–1681. So to use the word tory as an insult is correct according to the word's origin. The tory party in Scotland is disliked by the working classes which are in the majority, think of the Poll Tax and then the recent Bedroom Tax, both tory policies aimed at the poorer section of our society, did the bedroom tax apply to The Duke of Devonshire's Chatsworth House with it's 126 rooms? The continuing and unnecessary cutting of benefits while looking after their rich donors is disgusting in this day and age, food banks and record homelessness as the likes of Rees Mogg talks of his nanny. The tories bring nothing but misery and poverty as they have always done in Scotland.

  20. Variants are obviously real, but you’ve got your head in the sand if you think they’ve not been weaponised/politicised (just as everything has been during this sorry mess) by certain people at the right moments. Does the Kent variant exist? Yes. Was it latched onto and ran with by the UK gov and media in order to give an out for why big bad Boris Johnson had to cancel Christmas? Also yes.

  21. Wanting the restrictions to end doesn't just mean sticking your fingers in your ears and shouting loudly about conspiracies when a bit of bad news drops. There are other ways to approach this. The govts and scientists have warned for months now that the biggest and main danger we face is that of mutations arising which are not bodied so well by our current vaccines. It seems like some people just don't want to believe that, so lone behold, when something like it (and to be clear, this isn't that nightmare scenario imagined) happens, posters have been so kool-aided out their nuts by shouting about HypoThETicAL VarIAaNTs that the only possible reason this could be being reported is because of some kind of fabricated conspiracy to keep us in lockdown longer than required. This isn't going to cause us issues. But even Elixir's scientist of the month understands variants are the issue that could in some way slightly delay the process, at least make the road more rocky and less plain sailing. This is why we need to be alert, keep sequencing, keep reporting, and get the fucking sensible heads on when something like this ultimately emerges and have a plan to do so. But that involves actually understanding that it's more likely to happen (it already has happened worldwide in a few places that the E444k mutation has arisen- of course, other mutations could have this effect too) than an asteroid hitting earth and the threat of it doesn't exist to give sturgeon /Johnson the opportunity to make us have to meet others in our gardens for an extra 3 months.

  23. Some point soon we're going to need to have an actual nationwide conversation about how the f**k we go about pulling these people back from the brink that COVID* has driven them to mentally. We've scared some people shitless with this stuff, do you really expect they're just going to dust themselves off, say "silly us" and go back to normal come the 21st June or whenever the date is that "normality" returns? They're not well and are in need of professional help. *By COVID I don't just mean the virus, but all the restrictions, the culture of fear and everything else that comes with it.

  24. important addition there. an example would be on Kaye Adams this morning, someone mentioned the need to assess the Salmond/Sturgeon story in proportion to Westminster where it has been accepted that the Govt has acted unlawfully against existing legislation, where the Govt there sought to shut down debate over the Brexit agreement by shutting down Parliament, where the PM has been shown time and time again to have knowingly made misrepresentations in the house, where normal transparent procurement practices have been thrown to the wind in order to give public fund hand-outs to donors etc etc. Kaye's quick response was that we are only talking about Scotland and what is happening elsewhere is irrelevant (ie whataboutery if you will to paraphrase). YET, when discussing the vaccine roll-out in Scotland the other week and how it appeared sluggish, Kaye insisted that it was important to compare to England and the rest of the UK to put it (and I quote directly) "into context". Therefore if being consistent, this issue needs to be compared with not only similar "mis-leading" Parliament issues and importantly, the coverage these issues get. I would suggest that it is reasonable to suggest that a she said/he said debate that may essentially boil down to one date is not exactly on a par with what has happened in the "mother" Parliament and the UK Government's actions. But with the BBC. Scotland's media in general and with the support of the opposition parties, this issue has taken on a whole new level of priority in Scotland. Regardless of this, and as an aside, my personal view is that if someone's support for independence waivers because of this issue, you really do have to question why that person was voting for indy in the first place........

  31. I think Ric is a bit weird but he's completely right on this. I have no idea how or why so many people make accounts on here to plug dissertation surveys. If they care about football so much, why are they not P&B members already? If they're not P&B members, why do they care what P&B members think? How many other places are they flooding with their questions, and what effect does that have on their results? Going by the responses here it seems that this particular questionnaire isn't very well put together, and isn't as relevant to the situation it's asking questions about that the membership would like it to be. Rangers died. The university of Paisley is a joke. Carry on.

  33. Bit of a game of two halves yesterday. Getting more than a bit bored of my normal local walks and I'm conscious of trying to get back in to some sort of shape for when we're allowed out to play again, so I decided to do a longer day from my front door - and to make it a bit more unpleasant, I stuck my packraft and related gear in my pack to get used to a slightly bigger pack again. I headed out along the John Buchan way to Stobo taking a higher route along a nice little nameless ridge near Cademuir hill rather than the waymarked path. After a very nice wander (apart from a permanently sludgy bit as you pass through a farm near stobo), I reached my favourite put-in point on the Tweed and got my raft out and set up. The Tweed is still very high after recent flooding, so I was scooting along at a decent rate (10km/h in fact, which was nice) and I was back where I started in less than an hour after pushing off. Not a monster trip but it was good to put a bit more effort in...

  37. The Kent variant had been known since since September and was already making up c25% of cases in parts of England long before the government decided in December to tell us how worried about this variant it was. I appreciate that it takes time to confirm facts etc, but I would say a new variant comprising 25% of cases might've been a cause for concern long before we were told about it. The government cocked up with the Christmas relaxations given the prevalence of infection in areas of England at the time and the deployment of the announcement looked very much like a get out of jail card being played. More than two things can of course be true at once, but the aftertiming looked a bit off to me. The bottom line was that government policy failed and infections increased.

An absolute disingenuous hack of the highest order and that twitter thread is exactly why, a long moany rant because he misspoke one answer and was mistaken by one death which has come to light 3 days after the event after he has had time to sift through all of the data or had someone with an axe to grind flag it. There are plenty of legitimate things to criticise Leitch for, that's not one of them.

Definitely has the feeling of a Sevco fan looking for hauners about how "badly" they were treated. One question you should have asked to all the Rangers fans who help you out: "You knew fine well that liquidation meant the end of the original club, as it was an incorporated company. You waved red cards to indicate your ire at this possibility. Please try to explain with a straight face how this is not actually the case and you pure knew this all along, but".

I'm more wondering at the scope for confusion in a league with a Kilbride Thistle and an East Kilbride Thistle involved...at least one hapless team will eventually show up at the wrong park for an away game. Reminds me of a guy I know who was in a band touring Germany who arrived to play in Frankfurt. The wrong Frankfurt.

  45. It's the gall to claim that folk are missing the daily city centre grind and getting out for a haircut or coffee at their breaks. I mean, I'm sure most folk would forego a fucking Starbucks if it meant having to avoid catching 3 or 4 subway trains to and from work in a mad 90 minute each way dash across the city every day at a personal cost of thousands of quid a year. I'm lucky in that my own office is a 15 minute drive from my house but I certainly don't want to be going back to it any more than 2 days a week, simply because I don't need to. I can work with 100% efficiency from my own home and really only should be needed in future for meeting purposes (which I don't have many of). These people don't actually live in the real world. The benefits of WFH outweigh the office 10 fold.
