  1. You forget how shite St Mirren have been for decades until their fans start popping up in every corner of this website braying about their success once a manager has taken them to the heady heights of... 7th.

  2. Pie and Bovril's least-liked St J posters of 2020: It gives me no pleasure in reporting that St Johnstone have an odd bunch of posters with a permanent chip on their shoulder regarding just about anything to do with football. From Liam Henderson being fouled in their penalty box, to FK Trakai actually being a world class squad of footballers which we're all just too culturally ignorant to understand, to explaining away the plateau of attendances at McDiarmid during Their Most Successful Era Ever™, there's simply no hill too small for them to die on. Take the below as just one of many examples: Quite stunning levels of delusion there, although it was nice of Bonsky to wish St Mirren fans a happy New Year at the end of that bizarre outburst. On with the votes! 3rd - @Doctor, @Radford, @Lang Toon Saintee, @Old Pack and @Bonksy+HisChristianParade all cram onto the podium in a real rogue's gallery of poor Perth posting. 2nd - @tree house tam does the double, second best and second worst St Johnstone poster. Congratulations, Tam, but you were no match for your leader... 1st - @RandomGuy. wins it all, which I'm sure he'll claim as some sort of victory/whoosh as he's been trying to do all along on this thread. Here's three of my favourite quotes about RG, one of which came from a fellow Saintee: “just f**k off with the boring stats, we were all watching the game you utter c**t.” “Tries far too hard and nobody gives the slightest f**k in who has used their big left toe more times than anyone else to cross the ball in from the right.” “I will come back with a run down of the clubs best and worst but while this is starting up I just wanna make sure I nominate RANDOM GUY as worst St J poster. He's a weird stat nonce.” (editor's note: the poster never did come back and get the rest of their votes in. ) Anyway, that's your lot for the P&B 2020 best/worst posters awards. This has been an unmitigated disaster, and I sincerely hope that this time next year, a widespread vaccine rollout means that we'll all have far better things to be getting on with in our lives. I would like to extend in my best wishes to all, even the haters and losers, on this special date, Hogmanay.

  3. Right from the very early days of this nightmare world leaders talked about a “new normal”. With an end hopefully now in sight, albeit some months ahead and with difficult times still to come, we absolutely should not return to the ‘old normal’. We have endured far too much to simply treat it all as a blip in the passage of world history. We will have failed miserably if we don’t stop and consider why our NHS needed protecting to the level that it did and take steps to ensure that it is never again placed under such strain. We will have failed miserably if we don’t stop and consider why the state so utterly failed so many people and so many industries. We need to ensure that we have a welfare state fit for purpose. A welfare state that actually protects the most vulnerable in society when they need it most. We will have failed miserably if we don’t stop and consider how we treat the older members of our society. Leaving the care of those that require residential care in the hands of those whose priority is profit not people should no longer be acceptable. We will have failed miserably if Neil Doncaster still remains in place as cockwomble in chief of the SPFL. Okay that last one is just for me. As we end an utterly miserable year I want, on a personal note, 2021 to be a year where I again take pleasure in the things and the people I love whether that is inside a football ground, theatre, restaurant, gig venue, pub or just sitting on the couch at home with a drink in hand and the company of good friends. Above all else though I hope 2021 is a year that sees a more compassionate, more caring society. Happy New Year.

  4. I am up to date on all entries, and I'd like to say three things: - I have spent most of the day with a migraine, so if there's something wrong with an entry you submit in the 26 hours, f**k knows what will happen to it. - Starting next year, people who submit teams to me with the Captain and Vice-captains listed somewhere other than the top two positions will be docked points. - When I respond to entries I (usually) always say the same thing, so I want you all to know that I appreciate the kind words that you send me too.

  5. Can't believe I'm finishing 2020 with happy tears We can all pretend not to care but your score is your score. I didn't think this was possible when the site owner gave me negative 2,000 for no apparent reason but that's the power of The Community. At this time, I can give a rat's ass! I can almost see it That dream I'm dreaming But, there's a voice inside my head saying You'll never reach it Every step I'm taking Every move I make feels Lost with no direction My faith is shaking But I, I gotta keep trying Gotta keep my head held high There's always gonna be another mountain I'm always gonna wanna make it move Always gonna be an uphill battle Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose Ain't about how fast I get there Ain't about what's waiting on the other side It's the climb The struggles I'm facing The chances I'm taking Sometimes might knock me down, but No, I'm not breaking I may not know it But these are the moments, that I'm gonna remember most, yeah Just gotta keep going And I, I gotta be strong Just keep pushing on, 'cause There's always gonna be…

  6. Things didn't end the way anyone would have wanted, but that shouldn't take away from the job he done overall. He'll go down as a fantastic Motherwell manager. Two cup finals, a 3rd place finish and a return to European football. Not to mention bringing in over £5m in transfers. It was time, last night confirmed it for me, but I do feel genuine sadness about the whole situation. Awra best Robbo!

  7. The Worst Poster of 2020 nominations are... No one Ultimately, P&B has been a great support for so many of us in what has been a brutal year. We all ham it up a bit and play to the gallery but ultimately this is the favourite waste of time for thousands of people and every single person on here has been a help to each other and added to the rich tapestry of 2020. Every one of us deserves some praise. All the best for 2021 and here's to another sensational year on The Forum.

  9. I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year when it arrives. I really hope 2021 is a helluva lot better than 2020 was. Here’s hoping we can get back to Somerset and be able to cheer (or moan!) the lads on. I’ve sure missed the old place and the characters within our fan base on match days

  12. In what alternative universe are restrictions for another six to seven months 'getting your knickers into a twist over nothing'? Your handy reminder that the SG's tier system was set up as the minimum restrictions that would be needed until there was a treatment. There are no less than three fucking vaccines as well as treatments within hospitals for the more seriously ill patients. There's therefore zero justification for drumming our hands for another half year until Sridhar and a bunch of other clowns decide when restrictions must end. And Tier 1 is not even remotely back to normal either. All of the tiers should be launched into the bin as soon as the ICU levels are on a sustained downward path. Not when the current vaccination program gets round to doing every single person in a vulnerable category.

  13. I can’t help but feel a lot of you are getting your knickers in a twist over nothing. Once we’ve vaccinated the elderly and the vulnerable, restrictions will drop to a Tier 1 style thing at worst. Expectation right now is that’ll be April/May. Once the vaccine is into a certain amount of the younger population, life in the UK will have either zero or very limited restrictions, probably from about July/August if vaccination schedules work out. That’s all presuming, of course, the vaccines work as intended. Early signs are very promising - “JVT” (we thought Leitch was an egomaniac?) said yesterday two patients who’ve had one Pfizer dose have presented to hospital with Covid, and both are thought to have had it before the vaccine. That’s beyond our wildest dreams, if Covid is out there and nobody gets ill, transmission still happening literally doesn’t matter to countries who’ve been vaccinated. Travel might be a bit weird but we’d all take that right now. As I’ve said before amongst the Christmas shenanigans I think it was really lost just how bad this new strain is in terms of spread. I can’t help but feel Scotland and most likely the rest of the UK is stuck in an indefinite Tier 4 until we hit a tipping point with the vaccine. I’d be surprised to see Scottish secondary schools returning in January, primaries may or may not. The UK Gov appear determined to be a bit more gung-ho which may force the hand up here but it wouldn’t surprise me if they do yet another u-turn on that score. “Keep the heid” is more relevant now than ever. The end is in sight, but it’s going to be a hard fucking slog to get there.

Each of the posters above has had an objectively excellent 2020 on The Forum. Will give it some more thought and share my "Worst Of" list later.

  15. Again though, I have no idea how anyone can suggest they're even close to the same while keeping a straight face. One match called off because the club admitted to breaching health guidelines. One match called off for a frozen pitch after temperatures of -6 (highest we got all week was 1 I think; night before the game was -6 until about 7am then -3 until 11am; -2 until kick off); people working on the pitch right up until 2am the day of the game then back in at 7am to keep working. Covers don't do anything either btw, before some fuckwit suggests they would have magically had the game on

  16. If the continuing chat around restrictions etc is their way of keeping everyones eye on the ball until the vaccine has been rolled out sufficiently then you would have to say in a year where the govt and media have been shite at a lot of stuff, they are remarkably shite at this. If it's legit, and they intend to use what were emergency powers in a non emergency situation they can sook my Wang if they think il be following any ongoing restrictions. Problem is, whilst I can go back to having family and friends in my house, that doesnt help business and industries getting thrown on the scrapheap. If there are still restrictions in May, my disdain for that overreach will likely trump my desire to allow SNP to continue in charge to chase Indyref2. That sounds quite extreme maybe but it's how I feel currently. I remain hopeful that pressure will start growing on restrictions even by the end of January.

  17. My take on the whole thing has largely been covered by (variously) @Desp, @thisGRAEME, @Swello and @Casagolda's posts earlier today so I won't labour it. A bit surprised and kind of sad he's gone in so much as I thought he'd probably get the window to fix it but equally he's sounded increasingly scunnered and I wondered where he was going with his take a look at himself in the mirror chat in his post-match last night. It kind of feels like he's hit the point where it's probably a drain to keep reinventing things and for all we've been shite this season there have been games where it's clicked and we've been absolutely fine. Which I imagine makes it even more frustrating from his point of view. He kept us up after the wheels fell off with McGhee, took us to 2 cup finals, fucked it a bit then fixed it, then took us to 3rd. I'm a big believer that managers have shelf lives and tbh I couldn't blame him if he didn't fancy a January rebuild and another full scale rebuild in the summer. IMO he's the best manager we've had since McLean all things considered and from that point of view it's probably a good thing that he's taken the decision. It also helps his profile for any future gigs given he's going to be remembered overall as a very, very good Motherwell manager.

  19. Is your name Craig Campbell ? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are at it. If not, then congratulations, in one post you have epitomised and captured perfectly the gutless, No Expectations, COYB, Get behind the boys, accept whatever crap they serve up and clap away regardless culture that has been allowed to fester at our club for years and years and years and which has played a major part in us finding ourselves in our current situation. That attitude really, really needs to get so far to f**k away from this club.

  21. Absolute madness to even suggest any sort of restrictions continuing following rollout of an effective vaccine. Everything should at that point be open without further restriction or threat of restrictions. Otherwise what are we actually doing this for and where and when will it ever end? Lockdowns and restrictions are a means to an end. The vaccine is that end. That's what we've been told since day one, 'we will never be truly free of restrictions until a vaccine is available'. To pare that back to a revised 'we have an effective vaccine but more restrictions are needed until we know more in regards to if it protects further spread' was never an option and is simply not viable. The point of restrictions was to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed and people needlessly dying. At this point in the proceedings, they cannot now just decide that its suddenly to prevent everyone dying or to set new conditions at their discretion.

  23. I think his point is that the SNP have made a complete arse of the response to the covid pandemic and despite being pro indy he doesnt necessarily think he could bring himself to vote for them regardless of their stance on constitutional issues. If that is his view then i agree with him.

A poster liked almost universally and its reflected in the voting with him with a slight lead to take the award comfortably enough. I'll drop the Worst award off at you too, I want him nowhere near me. @WATTOO. Obviously you won it, you massive fucking creep. Pick up your award off of Drk. 25. They should be setting out, in line with Sturgeons previous statements of "no restrictions in place for a minute longer than neccessary" what neccesssry actually means. They should absolutely not be floating the idea of a never ending use of emergency powers on the basis of the spread of a respiratory infection which has been widely vaccinated against (with heavy focus on the small at risk group) and a "let's just wait and see" cautious attitude. If you do not think misuse of power is a consideration at the ballot box fair play. I do though. And I wont cast a vote in the theoretical hope of future independence when it means backing people who in current practice are throwing people lives, prosperity, health and happiness on a bonfire because they dont have the stomach for what should be an incredibly simple cost benefit analysis based on nothing more than hospital capacity. Of course, all of this is currently speculation. I am only going on the current language they are using and to me its unacceptable.

A gluttony of funny posters, some proper headcases and an array of great c***s. I love you all. Best poster was an exceptionally close run thing. @Mr. Alli @Bigmouth Strikes Again @Ludo*1 @RawB93 & @RossBFaeDundee all on an equal footing but the winner by a singular vote this year : @johnnydun. Well deserved, a good lad the forum over and loves a good argument. My kind of guy. Enjoy! Some of you should be ashamed. This years worst Dundee poster is @Ludo*1. I've had my run ins with him but this is a travesty. A large pool to choose from and this is the wrong choice. Sorry about this Luds, you are Dundee's worst poster 2020.

  29. It's been pretty obvious from early on that we would be a poor team this season. That hasn't helped. We are genuinely dreadful to watch. Even our two most recent wins were complete flukes. The viewing experience is obviously better than nothing and David Jack deserves huge credit for the commentary that he's provided, but it's nearly impossible to make out the majority of the Clyde team, never mind the opposition players. I've no idea why the company can't program their system to zoom in occasionally. Losing the match day experience, even if it's just the fact my programme has turned up after the match on more occasions than not. I've a pair of thermals that arrived last March that I've not been able to wear yet. Everyone has a routine, nobody has been following that; it just doesn't feel right sitting down in front of the telly at 2.55 pm, even if I've been able to have more productive Saturdays than usual. There's also the frustration that this should have been a cracking division to take part in. I think the thing that's annoyed me most though has been the ambivalence from the football "community" to people outside their wee bubble. In the last 9 months, the wider world was only allowed to have a game of fives for about two of those. Nearly all of us have not been to a stadium in the same period of time. I do not need to hear of: Failed politicians being snuck into games in Tier 4 areas. Footballers going for a wee trip abroad and failing to isolate on their return. Footballers going out in a large group for dinner/drinks. Clubs organising pointless Glasgow Cup ties. Club Chaplains who can't be bothered trekking the country for a match they somehow, inexplicably, had permission to attend. Club/matchday sponsors being allowed attendance, presumably because they paid a wee bit more than the £100s I have donated since the pandemic began. I have no idea why directors (covid officer excepting) or scouts are anywhere near stadiums either. I bet the referees are absolutely loving it.

  31. ST JOHNSTONE Pie and Bovril's best-loved St J posters of 2020: Despite calling them a graveyard set of posters, the Saintees took more interest in voting than any other set of fans, so I've rewarded them with the final primetime slot. Say what you like about St Johnstone ("tory farmers", "consistently taking a sledgehammer to Scotland's coefficient", "they've started selling three sides of their ground to the Old Firm like the pathetic diddies they are"), they spent the entirety of the last decade in the top flight, which is more than any Edinburgh side can say. Onto the votes, and @Kyle, @Bonksy+HisChristianParade and @deej all finished in a dead heat at the back, with @The Real Saints just missing out in 4th place. In terms of the podium... 3rd - @RandomGuy. 2nd - @tree house tam, truly arrogance personified, declared "I'm piss bored winning it and as such have relaxed my posting style to beige". In light of this dramatic change in posting style that we all definitely noticed, he's dropped a place and has to settle for a runners up medal, which he may well be chucking into the stands à la Garry O'Connor. 1st - @PauloPerth edges in front to win the lot. Definitely the best St Johnstone poster (not saying all that much), and definitely not the worst Paulo on this site (again, not saying all that much). Wish I could retract my vote for him after his snippy comment about my platonic love for the Buddies, but alas, rules are rules. Worst voters coming next to finish off this year's awards, just keep the quote below in mind.

  32. We're not talking about a few weeks here, we're talking about a few months' difference between what can be done and what van Tam and assorted government officials are now giving it. That has a huge impact not just on individuals but on the economy as well. Every lost week in 2021 due to restrictions means more businesses not coming back and an even larger bill for younger generations to foot for decades to come. It is the opposite of getting your knickers into a twist over nothing then.

  33. It's not the responsibility of the Government, or the rest of the population, to go to such extremes to try to prevent someone catching a virus that might knock them for six for a week. Ludicrous. Once those most at risk of serious illness who can / want to be vaccinated have been then if's time to move on. It's frightening how quickly and easily people swallow, regurgitate, and seemingly support this pish.

  39. "Clubs" are also "businesses" who had to submit individual projections to the governing bodies. Businesses would be allocated funding based on hard numbers, not a blanket handout conducted arbitrarily. Falkirk and Thistle, for example, wouldn't suggest they should be given a more equitable share because of "wee shitey clubs that no one gives a monkeys about" because that would be ludicrous. There is no reason that a business the size of Hearts should be given the same financial support as a business the size of Alloa Athletic. It's financial support to keep businesses going and to prevent layoffs, it's not a Christmas gift or prize money.
