  1. I have that thing where I need to get tonnes of work done today but just want to read reactions to the game, so I'll post this then try to concentrate for a bit. As @djchapsticks said, it was the reaction to the equaliser that was the craziest, most unexpected thing. We've all seen it before - the late concession, the drop of the heads - and when they equalised, I very nearly didn't watch the end of the game. Thanks goodness I did. So many other aspects to pick out: JDH and Erhahon don't just anchor midfield; they offer so much in terms of passing as well. That's been the real revelation of the past month or so; rather than two sitting midfielders (Foley and Sheron), we've got two actual ballers there. But they're also happy to get their hands dirty; both were sat on yellows last night and did incredibly to keep their discipline. JDH's touch to bring the ball down in the build-up to the winner was sublime. Ethan has the skills and the physique to go very, very far in football. Connolly obviously isn't a perfect player - he wouldn't be playing for us if he were - but oh holy crap that pace must be utterly terrifying. Even toward the end of the game he was stretching them; causing them issues, chasing apparent lost causes. Now that he's on form and fit, he creates so much space for... ...Jamie. Fucking. McGrath. I was calling him a player right from the off, but lost my patience a couple months ago and thought he didn't bring enough to the table. Didn't help that his position was being chopped and changed, and we clearly weren't settled. But now we are settled... fucking hell. Happy to withdraw my scepticism. The calmness he showed for his second goal is about the least St Mirreny thing I've seen for a long time. He's magic on the ball and now he's got space and runners about him, and he's finding the goal with unnerving regularity. The only concern is now the attention he'll be getting. I'm delighted there's now less pressure on Tait to be our main attacking outlet. I know big Jonathan Obika didn't score, but he had a decent game last night and is by some distance our best striker. I hope he can knock a couple in soon to boost his personal confidence a bit. The difference in our mentality now is like night and day vs the early part of the season. We're no longer going out looking like we're trying to avoid a doing. That's about it for now, except to say the Rangers fans have been pretty magnanimous in defeat on here. I know there are a few melters on this site from various clubs, but it's generally a pretty classy place to discuss football.

  3. Well, I've very recently been given the news that Covid has taken an elderly family member down in Glasgow. She got sent to hospital after a fall last week, but caught Covid there after just a few days. As if that wasn't bad enough, her husband eventually collapsed after the stress of her hospital news, and after getting sent to hospital himself, he had a sudden decline last night and died just a few hours before his wife. With the Christmas relaxation incoming, we'll be joined by many, many more (soon to be) shaken families, but as long as folk can get their aunts / friends together to watch Mrs Brown's Christmas Special over a box of Quality Street after a glorified Sunday roast, it'll all be worth it. Won't it Boris, you utter f***ing charlatan. Merry Christmas

  4. You're the absolute fucking poster child for this sentiment. You've spent years on here complaining about your work and your neighbours and the countless situations where everything you think and do is right, but everyone's against you. You've employed various coping mechanisms about it when you do, usually "I'm too nice" or "too honest" or "I care too much" and yet, despite all of this you don't do anything to try and fix those problems. If you're right, why haven't you taken it to someone who can do something about it? If your organisation is so corrupt and intolerable, why have you stuck with it for so long? Better yet, why do you seem to enjoy spending so long on here complaining about it? Don't be surprised that people are fed up with your shite, because it's been going on for far longer than anyone with any sense would tolerate. Now you've started doing on P&B what you say you do in real life. You're transferring your own faults on to everyone else. Everyone's being mean! They're making things up about me! It's all their fault! The worst part here is you have the cheek to try and appear magnanimous when you're doing it. Wind your fucking neck in and take some responsibility for your own life instead of telling yourself everyone else is wrong and you're always right.

  5. I actually joined (was coerced into) the social committee in a previous work place. More or less my sole purpose was to ensure there was lots of free booze. It was run by a very attractive lass, who was essentially made to do it because she was PA to the department head and her second in command 'the General', a recently separated from her boyfriend, man hating control freak who wanted to call the shots. The rest of the members were essentially just there to be dogsbody's for the General. I remember one of the missions was to visit locations in Edinburgh to host the Christmas party, this was done during office hours which was ideal as my boss being the good corporate employee actually thought this was an important task. Turns out everyone else ditched this task except for me and the General. Great. So off we went on our trip around the city visiting various places and on the way she complained about her ex, and in general "why are men assholes" followed up with enquiring of any single friends I may have. Took me all my will power not to say "I'm sure they'd be dying to meet you". It was fun. I remember thinking to myself, what the actual f*ck am I doing here, this isn't anything I would normally do, but f*ck it we're here now. Turned out to actually be quite class, loads of free food, free booze and all these places were trying very hard to get the business. The downside was I had to actually pretend I gave a f**k about any of this, the General had a big folder and lots of questions and I'm there with fuckall to contribute, I think I might have asked at some point "How tall is the Christmas tree?" in a desperate attempt to add something, I think it was met with odd looks and some laughter. By the time we finished, there was no real point making our way back to the office, after having consumed a fair amount of champagne I was feeling a small buzz and in the mood to get on it. The General suggested a debrief, actual words used, so I suggested the pub and she agreed. By this point the alcohol had softened her attitude and I believe she may also be having some fun, I am after all quite good company. In the pub, she literally meant a debrief, we sat down and she flung open the big folder and was ready to discuss it. f**k me. I got the drinks so I could at least order a chaser as well as pint. I got back and the General was in full flow of themes and colour schemes. f**k. But it gave me the opportunity to stress the importance of free booze and lots of it, which she seemed amenable to. Success and with that done, I somehow managed to convince her that "oh we need to probably discuss with the others" I thought she would be reluctant, but she agreed and the folder disappeared. Briefly it was back to the ex and man hating. I was thinking what in fucks name am I doing again. Then it actually became quite a laugh and the internal gossip flowed. We drank for quite some time, I'm a fairly capable session drinker and by this point I could see she was not. The battle hardened General was now quite coy and then flirtatious. Before I really knew it we were back at my place and the General was very much ready for action. The fucking things I do to ensure people have a decent Christmas night out with loads of booze. The next week was massively awkward and I left the social committee. As expected when Christmas night out came the General had returned and she was incredibly frosty with me. But alcohol flowed and everyone else was having a nice time. Some say I even saved Christmas. I was more or less regarded as a hero.*** ***So we never ended up back at my place, she did seem to suggest it until she found out I was not single and in no way interested. I just wanted to end it the way people thought it was going since you had to read all that. Unsurprisingly the rest is true and I did however leave once the booze situ was confirmed and she was in fact very frosty with me for leaving. Also rumours in the office arose there was something between us, no idea where that came from but it took a fair while to shift. You can tell I am absolutely fully in the Christmas wind down.

  6. Another club source told us: “There are clubs in the Championship who have ambitions to get into the Premiership and are paying players and staff accordingly. They are the ones in need of urgent assistance." Why the feck should the Scottish government fund the pipe dreams of these clubs. We all want to get into the top flight but that doesn't mean we should be building squads of players that we can't afford to get there. Ludicrous stuff.

  7. Of all the good things that St Mirren did last night, the most impressive was the way that they took the game to Rangers in the few minutes left after Davis had equalised. Most teams would have sat back to ensure that the game went to extra time and not allow Rangers the chance to win it.

  9. The decision not to change the Christmas restrictions and instead go with "but pleeeeeease" is absolutely shameful. A blind man could see that this is so they can blame a January upsurge on "the people" rather than their own fecklessness. It never fails to amaze me how many people in the UK voted for this crowd of absolute shysters.

  13. In an ideal world we shouldn't revel in other clubs misfortune but they created the monster. As stated before we've been royally shafted by other clubs via votes and the authorities decisions too many times. Our BOD were soft as putty in the past which didn't help. The goody two shoes days are over for us hopefully. Law of the jungle where the strongest survive its about time it was our turn. Il have little sympathy.

  14. I remember young Erhahon being slated by the usual suspects when he was younger and being used in the wrong position. His time on loan down south has been the making of him. He is now one of the most promising youngsters to have come through the ranks in recent years and I include McGinn

  16. 6 weeks in for us now. Dont think anything I read or heard could really prepare me for how hard that first few weeks were! He's been really good on the most part but have had the odd sleepless night. He was quite colicy for a couple of weeks but that seems to have passed too. He is quite a content wee chap now! Loves his baths and seems to be sleeping really well at night the last couple of weeks. Got him down at midnight and that should be him until half 3ish and I'll get him again at 7ish when I'm up for work. Fingers crossed in the next few weeks he will start sleeping longer at night as he will start to understand the difference between night and day. He's over 11 pounds now and rather alarmingly some clothes are too small already! Really started to see him coming to life on the last week, chatting away and becoming more inquisitive with the environment, so cool to see!

  18. Guys, I think it's reasonable to post this here: Morton are our rivals but I don't like seeing any club* in significant bother. This link is to a petition that's aiming to prevent Morton's current owners from retaining control of Cappielow when they sell up (simplified version). I spotted it when I saw it doing the rounds on Twitter and @GiGi - a sensible guy - assures me the petition is legit. I'm going to sign it. No Morton fan has asked me to share this. https://www.change.org/p/greenock-morton-keep-cappielow-park-in-the-hands-of-greenock-morton It's Christmas and they're our neighbours: maybe consider giving it a click and an e-signature yourselves. Edit: having signed it, there is an option to withhold your name/details if required. * Obvious exceptions apply.

  20. Ordered the charcoal today for smoking the xmas turkey. Also bought a half side of salmon to smoke for a starter, which I shall cure in salt, sugar and juniper in the next 2 or 3 days. Probably smoke some garlic whilst that's smoking anyway and make smoked roasted garlic mayo to go along with some black pudding bon bons for the non fish eaters, of which there are too many.

  22. Erhahon was phenomenal last night. Lamped one of them and took the booking that got us going. Showed them no respect whatsoever. Gave McGregor some verbals too which is always nice. Was worried he was going to get a second booking but the last 20 minutes he marshalled it along with Doyle-Hayes, who is an absolute dreamboat of a player. Annoyingly that was only the quarter finals but what a buzz.

  23. I must say, St Mirren beating the **** last night makes me feel a little better about our latest results v them. We were unlucky to come up against a team just finding form when we had so many players out. I think the perception of St Mirren now is much more favourable than when we played them in the cup. The flip side is obviously, I am FURIOUS that hibs now find themselves in the semi final of an OF-less cup, something that weve just not had in the last few seasons. Even when we beat the **** (which we did twice in one season, both in glasgow, lest we forget) we end up having to play Celtic. Envy isnt a good look on me.

  27. Wales have now had more total cases than Scotland, which given the population difference of over two million is pretty remarkable. Into the bargain they even have a slightly lower pro-rata testing rate than here. It’s also hard looking at this to argue that the Scottish Government approach in the last few months hasn’t been a success, relative to the rest of the UK.

  31. We watch Elementary, and it appears to be an in-joke that people of all dispositions, backgrounds and ways of speaking say "reached out" with dispiriting regularity on that show. Whenever it happens, I flash the vickies at the screen for 5 seconds. Infuriating phrase, so insincere, and at the same time self-congratulatory. Here's a screenshot of a rule I wrote for Outlook. The "internally" one was based on an email I received from a company we work with, and was the version that angried-up my blood most effectively of the lot. Presumably when they reached out externally to tell me something.

  34. Two United fans at work this morning having a full blown conversation about "we should've/could've won the league cup. We could beat every side left in it" , "imagine if we got Livi in the semis? We'd be planning Hampden already", "aye, that would be another final for the terrors" went on for a good 5 minutes until I piped up " you couldnae beat fucking Peterhead at Tannadice you useless c***s" Conversation ended.

  35. To lose an 89th minute equaliser would be a sucker punch to any side but for one who scores so few as we do and against the best side in the country, on a 28 game unbeaten run and who simply don't concede goals normally, it's a hammer blow but at least the fall back of extra time was there. Which upon further thought, makes it even more surreal that instead of feeling dejected or deflated, or deciding to keep the ball until FT and get through the next 30 minutes, we went right for their throat. What a ballsy move and something that for so long, we've lamented that we never do against the Old Firm. I can only imagine how those scenes would have played out last night with supporters in the stadium.

  36. Just think, somewhere out there in the multiverse, everyone is away to their beds lamenting Rangers procession to the league cup as brother Dallas handed them their routine victory on a plate. Luckily, for once, we live in the good universe where an 'unfortunate' fate befell Dallas before kickoff and the chad bro Dickinson took his place. Dallas for his part, reduced to standing on the touchline, cut off at the knees... silently weeping at what might have been and how angry his daddy is going to be at him....then extracting his revenge in the only way he could by making sure Jim Goodwin was punished for the crime of giving it GIRUYs to nothing but fresh air.

  37. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/scottish-government-warned-critical-championship-23178871 I have absolutely zero sympathy for club executives - and above all those at GMFC - who are getting the begging bowl out for public money. The idea of starting a season BCD was complete and utter lunacy from the beginning - yet they lolloped along anyway, blithely assuming that they could get fans back in by winter (for a respiratory virus that, erm, spreads more effectively from people being indoors all the time), fob off their customers with tinpot streams and try to guilt-trip everyone into paying up anyway. The business model has been a disaster waiting to happen from the start and it is no surprise to see where we are right now.

  39. Terrific second half from St Mirren. Better organised and much more determined than we were and the result was well deserved I can't even be annoyed as we were beaten by the better team. All the best to the Buddies for the rest of the competition and I hope we were knocked out by the eventual cup winners. Play like that and it'll take some team to beat you!
