  2. Private Message Madness Award 2020 Angry, threatening and abusive private messages on Pie and Bovril are something I am all too familiar with so I feel well placed to nominate a member of our online community for this prestigious accolade. The messages are from 2019 but as they were only posted this year I believe they should qualify for the 2020 award. Fair play to @Crawford Bridge for keeping his dignity in the face of such hideous abuse and threatening behaviour. "Any time you want to meet on a match day, I'll clean your clock." Congratulations @Snifter Pee Rot.

  3. Yes, 94 or 95 took the love my life (at that time) to Central Park to watch the Loons, can't remember much about the game or the result. She won the 50/50 at half time £88, paid for the petrol money to the game and back. We were living in Solihull at the time, romantic weekend to Cowdenbeath

Charlie's eyes widening when he realises they did a team photo and trying to stifle a laugh, had me in stitches. 5. MORTON 0 (NIL) - 2 CHAMPIONS-ELECT As promised, FOLLOWERS, I have returned to this thread in TRIUMPH, having witnessed the Champions-Elect's latest BRUSHING ASIDE of a PROVINCIAL CLUB. I dropped Geography after INTERMEDIATE TWO, but I'm fairly sure that Greenock is a TIER THREE area at present. Quite frankly, their silly little club belongs in tier FOUR of the Scottish leagues, given the ABSENCE OF THREAT they posed on their POTATO FIELD of a pitch. The juggernaut rolls on, friends.

  6. We don't have to vaccinate 50 million people before returning to normal, not even remotely. Because the infection is in fact harmless for the vast majority of the population. It should be a straightforward trade-off between the costs of trashing the economy and people's liberties every day and the social costs of serious infections/deaths. Once you vaccinate health care workers so there is no impact on front line staffing and the coffin dodgers who account for the overwhelming majority of deaths, the second part of that equation collapses in value. The costs of lockdowns stay the same and so they belong in the bin. If people choose to continue shielding until they get a vaccine then they should be free to do so. The current restrictions should be lifted though. If that means that a handful 50 year old fatties get an unlucky break before their vaccine arrives then that's just tough luck.

  10. We've absolutely stolen a point there, delighted with it. Two great goals from us but the two conceded were nothing short of laughable. Nobody picking up their absolute unit Duku? Really? f**k sake. Both goals showing Williams up for the flappy shitehawk that he is. Charlotte Church's gorgeous diddies should be ahead of him in goals for Wales. Rovers much the better team, really impressed with them actually. Some great football, just lacking a bit of critical movement in the final third. Every single Rovers team I can remember has been a bunch of absolute hammer throwers and duffs. This one actually looks like a good team and it's plain to see why they've already scored around 80 goals this season. For us, Dow had a big second half in the middle. Really showed a great work rate and how good a player he is. Comrie also showing he's fucking tremendous at full back. Not impressed with anyone else though, maybe Edwards as he had a tough shift and did well. Turner wasn't given time to do his thing, McManus just letting attack after attack fizzle out often enough.

  12. At the end of the day anyone can support whatever team they choose, no matter how far away from the stadium they live. However, because the majority of Old Firm fans in this country are educated to a very low level, they don’t see the irony in lording it over fans who do support a team in their local area, or even a team they have some tangible connection to. It’s very evident that domestic success means little to them, a Scottish Cup win for Celtic is celebrated with a few pints in the pub after the game and up the road. The bragging rights over Rangers fans mean much more than the trophy. But compare that to something like Ross County’s Scottish Cup win, or St Mirrens league cup, these were celebrated in a way that OF fans could only achieve if they won a European trophy, which is very unlikely to happen. A lot of OF fans also have the delusion that they didn’t just choose to support one of them, but were somehow chosen, and subsequently believe that the success of their team reflects on them as a person. They don’t seem to understand that they just chose a team to support (a coincidence that it happens to be one of the 2 biggest teams in the country), in the same way that I could say tomorrow I support Real Madrid and lord it over OF fans, but I wouldn’t do that because I don’t need to use my teams success as some sort of personality trait. It’s sometimes said in jest but I personally know OF supporters who think of themselves as superior to fans of St. Mirren, Hamilton, etc (basically any other team in Scotland actually), and are unable to see the stupidity of relating the success of the team they support to their own life, especially when they have done literally nothing to aide that success, but still carry the arrogance of someone who has. Ive been going to St Mirren games for a good few years now and if I meet someone for the first time will say I support St Mirren. Had a Rangers fan (from Motherwell) a few months back who, after meeting for the first time, told me it must be shite to go watch a team that never wins, in a stadium with hardly any fans. I did tell him that St Mirren have won a national trophy more recently than his team, and that St Mirren would have substantially more fans if half of Paisley didn’t ignore their own towns team and choose to support the more successful clubs 20 minutes up the road. Explained that when I go to watch a game of football I don’t need to do it in a stadium with 40,000 others so I can give myself a pat on the back because I support a ‘big’ team. Infact I could think of nothing worse than sitting in Ibrox or Parkhead amongst some of the mutants that go to their home games. I’ve been in the home end and the away end at both stadiums, and you don’t need to look far to see what sort of people you are associating yourself with.

  15. Absolutely no Falkirk supporter anointed them as a "Super Team", or anything even close to it. Given the momentum they had from last season, and their faultless home record (until today) they were generally considered to be contenders and one of the stronger teams in the league. Given that they are currently sitting in second place, that's hardly been disproved to date. They're having a poor run. Ours may yet be to come. We need to start concentrating only on ourselves and forget what anyone else is doing. We've spent years and years pissing about at the start of every season, giving up huge advantages to bang-average teams and then spending months forlornly chasing runaway leaders. Maybe the boot is on the other foot at last. Get the hammer down, win the next three games and it'll be a long, long way back for Cove, Partick or whoever from there.

  19. Personally I'd have kept Connor Murray in a heartbeat, would have been happy enough to keep Mercer and Lyon and when we're clearly short of centre halves, even without raking over the Semple issue yet again, Kilday would have done a job. I'd also have been happy to keep a hold of Jack Hamilton if Livi were letting him out on loan again which they eventually did.

  21. That is now 11 competitive games this season, I think I'm right that we have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 6 of those. The 4 wins came against a side 5th in League 2, and the current 8th, 9th and 10th placed teams in League 1. Against any of our play-off or title (don't laugh) contenders we have been found wanting. I know a few fans were quite dismissive of our League Cup defeats but I was really concerned by the level of performances and that has followed through into the league. We played great against Clyde but that is clearly an outlier so far (and they aren't very good). The fact we can't beat any side who are higher than 8th shows we are miles off contention for the league, like usual we'll probably be around 4th-6th. I have no idea what we are meant to be. We aren't hard to beat and we aren't an attacking side, we aren't an effective direct team and we aren't an effective side at building up play from the back. We occasionally do some pressing but then other weeks don't at all (like 1st half against Cove). I don't actually care which of the above we are, as long as we are an effective version of one of them. I've said it before this season but to me the biggest issue is a lack of players in forward positions. We have a back 4, plus 2 centre midfielders who have played half their pro career in defence, effectively 6 defenders. The only attackers today were Robert, Carrick and Connell. If we were water tight at the back and certain to keep clean sheets every week you could maybe excuse this by saying we could steal a goal and win 1-0, but we clearly aren't keeping clean sheets so need more guys in forward areas. It is no coincidence that when we played our best football and scored the most goals ( 5 against Clyde and 3 against Forfar) we had 4 genuine attacking players in forward areas (Gallagher, Robert, Carrick, Connell). Football at this level is often a numbers game, if you get enough guys forward enough times the defences are so bad that you will score goals. A deep 2 in midfield of McKay and Sabatini is plenty, we do not need Kerr in there. Quite happy for him to play at the back (he was good at right back in 2nd half last week) but he's never a midfielder, just because you are a centre back who can spray 40 yard passes does not mean that you can just slot into midfield. We were much better last week when he was taken out midfield and moved into the back 4. We had to go out and try and attack the league this year, if it hadn't worked I honestly wouldn't have minded as Cove, Falkirk and Partick are tough opposition, but I was really looking forward to having a go at it over the shorter season and seeing guys like Robert, Sabatini and Connell in an attacking side. Unfortunately it looks like another slog of a season with negative football.

  39. I put it to you sir, that this is quite clearly a non footballing thread, existing in the General Nonsense section alongside the politics sub forum. I will however take your reply as a tacit admission that you avoid using these xenophobic slurs on the football threads for fear of censure. That you choose to use them on lightly moderated threads is very much to your demerit.
