I was listening on radio but missed the extra time and penalty shootout! My daughter was born by c-section at 22:40 so I missed the drama at the end! Still, what a perfect day! MON SCOTLAND!!!!!!!!

Well, it's 09:12 Friday morning, I have had no slept for over 24 hours, as I went to bed at 22:00 for the 02:45 ko. Tossed and turned for an hour and said f**k it I'll just watch some golf before the game, turned on, then turned off. Something was not right, so I just went and sat in the garden with a cup of Scottish Blend tea. I then heard the daughter (2) start to cry, this was around midnight, she usually sleeps the full night. I tried to settler but she was not having it. I took her outside and nursed her to sleep, it took over an hour. The game started and we were in full control, I thought and when we took the lead, I never shouted out (like I usually do), I just sat there in silence, it's around 04:00 at this time. When the equaliser did go in, I did shout "f**k off". I woke my son(8), who came through to ask me what was wrong. He has never watch a Scotland game, as they are always during the night. We took the laptop out the front garden and watched extra time and penalties. It was fantastic that he woke up to experience his father, running round the garden in his boxer shorts at 05:30. Then bursting into tears. I may live over the other side of the world, that doesn't make me feel the hurt and now the happiness just like everyone back in Scotland. What a fucking day/night & now another day.

Fucking unbelievable. I honestly really needed that, I've not had a good time of it at all these last few weeks and Ryan Christie was pretty much a mirror image of me watching that unfold. We had absolutely Scotlanded it with another late goal, and Serbia were all set to just run right over the top of us. Which they more or less did for the first 15. - I really wish I could read Serbian so I could rubberneck their message boards and just bask in the seethe, They must be absolutely disgusted at how they played last night, and how - with all the momentum and sprin in their step against a deflated Scotland in extra time - they couldn't land the knockout blow. So many awful, awful games since then - 0-0 in Moldova, 0-3 in Kazakhstan, Iwelumo's miss against Norway, getting utterly turned over by Wales and Hungary, melting in Macedonia and collapsing in Georgia. The glorious highlights - France, the Netherlands, Ukraine, getting snuffed out. And now we've done it. We've done it, we've qualified and at the end of this utter sewer of a year, we've got something we can just enjoy. - I've only been to a couple of friendly matches, never a competitive Scotland game. The first was the 1-0 win over Denmark, which probably almost everyone there has already forgotten. It was a pretty a dire game, but seeing all the banners for Scotland Supporters' Clubs and pub groups from... Oban, Kirkwall, Aberdeen, Perth, East Lothian, Ayr, Lewis - it was really amazing. Those who go to national games all the time maybe take that for granted, but as someone who pretty much only sees games between Airdrie and other equally diddy teams, the feeling that you had people representing the whole country, coming from all over the place just to be there together and watch the national team was really quite powerful. And that was just a meangingless friendly, not especially well-attended or exciting. The national team really does bring the country together, and I can't wait for that happen to next summer.

I reckon if you were to draw a Venn diagram of Rangers fans who throw sectarian abuse at Steve Clarke, Rangers fans who hate the Scottish National team and Rangers fans who are raging at that tweet, you'd get a as near to a perfect circle as you could get. I live abroad, and I haven't seen my dad since before the virus hit. The next time I'll get to see him is the weekend of the 2nd round games. So if Scotland get through, I'll be able to watch it with him on the first weekend I get to see him for 18 months. Bit emotional just thinking about it tbh. I'd just kinda accepted we'd never see Scotland in a tournament.

Just thinking, besides the players and Stevie Clark, the people I'm happiest for today are those who support Scotland as their number one love, over and above a club side, and perhaps as their sole passion in football. Many will make up the Tartan Army, which is often ridiculed by some club supporters who may think they are superior to the TA. A big congratulations to Scotland international supporters!

Have to say, I've never been so resigned to a defeat as I was at the start of extra time there. The way we ended up not winning in 90 minutes was so demoralising, and then the 30 minutes of clinging on which followed meant that even going into the shootout I was just waiting to lose. Get it right up me and my 20 years of well earned cynicism. David fucking Marshall.
