  1. Isn’t the point of being in the army to be more tooled up than the other mob? Is that true bravery? Maybe it is. Just seems like quite a narrow definition of bravery. Someone piling their family into a wee boat to cross a choppy sea in the hope of a better life, you could argue, is braver than a pilot flying about trying to blow up some shepherds hiding behind a rock. Maybe if the “are brave boys” brigade widened their perspective they’d realise that some of these illegal immigrants are actually even braver and tougher than the folk they revere. They do appear to be dense as f**k though so I know that’s unlikely.

  2. DAFC, this isn’t the website for you. If you genuinely believe what you are posting then leave. I’m well voiced on this forum As to mental health and never ever have I used it to excuses posts on racism, as I manage not to be racist. The moment someone criticises you, you yell gas lighting. You strike me as someone who’s used google lots to find thing that suit your twisted sense of persicution whether here or in your work. I’ll bet you’ve never seen a psychiatrist. Every time you protest mental health I cringe as you do more to highlight why it’s easy for it to be stigmatised. I’d suggests the mods give you a time out to help aid your mental Health if posting is so damaging. My experience when I’ve shared my worst times in the depression thread were of supportive individuals sharing what got them through and others dropping pms. You reep what you sow.

  3. Like ive said 2 or3 times already. Most sensible thinking people would agree that schools should get some level of priority over other sectors for many reasons which we won’t go over. However when it becomes clear that this priority is coming at the expense of literally everything else then the public will begin to lose patience especially when the government stick rigidly to their story and arent prepared to backtrack at all

  7. Trump is as thick as f**k. He simply been insulated from problems by such enormous wealth that up until now there have been very few situations he couldn't get himself out of without either paying someone off of throwing lawyers at it. The only thing he's really learned politically is how to play his base, who are even thicker than he is. He at least managed to figure out that three word sloguns make nice simple chants for the crowds of shitkickers at his rallies, ie "Lock-her-up", "stop-the-count" etc etc.

  8. In early July I knew I had put on a bit of weight, but it was still a shock to see the scales reading 16st 9bs, the heaviest I've ever been. Couldn't even blame lockdown as I was working right through it. Action had to be taken as I couldn't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe, never mind the long term health implications. Set an initial target weight of 15st which I managed to get to by mid September, so set a new goal of 14st. It's been years since I stood on the scales to see them have 13st at the start, but here we are today with this. Couple of drinks tomorrow night watching the game to celebrate. The hard work now will be to maintain that weight.

  10. I think blended learning has a lot of challenges that have been regularly pointed out by a few on here, quite legitimately. I do think it definitely could have been done to an extent, in ways that would minimise those difficulties, and in particular still retain availability of schooling for those that it doesn’t work for. I also think the same sort of restrictions, in terms of distancing as much as possible and wearing of masks as much as possible, that all workplaces face should have been adopted right from the start for schools. The fact they still aren’t fully adopted is nuts. Overall though, my main point (and why I am so vocal when stories like this appear - with increasing regularity at the minute, but far too late) is that the government should be held to account. Firstly for blatantly lying to the public on multiple occasions by claiming that schools are safe, and putting teachers/various other school workers in a position that they shouldn’t have been forced into. Secondly, for simultaneously shutting down far lower risk sectors to keep up with the pretence that the schools are fine so it must be other areas causing the spread. Such industries are seeing businesses close and employees chucked onto the scrap heap (fed up of people pretending furlough means that everyone on the other end of this will still be employed and continue on as normal, plenty have been made redundant already with a huge amount to follow as soon as furlough ends, regardless of whether or not we are still in a similar place with restrictions) solely to keep schools open, without any acknowledgement of this damage. I think the position on schools has been an utter disgrace from the start and would hate to let the government just brush it under the carpet (they will, and unfortunately most people will let them as it also suits them/their agenda). TL;DR - a bit of both.

  11. Looks like it’s finally starting to become commonly accepted that schools are a hotbed of spreading. The fact that lots of cases in schools have probably also been missed (or covered up really) by things like this make it even clearer how many cases have originated from them. Some on here are very quiet these days on the schools debate. I wonder why that is.

  16. Much has been made of the totally different and vastly improved playing style of John McGlynn Mark 2. And with a quiet day at work (and being a bit sad when it comes to stats) I thought I would see if there was a visible difference in the stats between his previous spell. In all competitions, McGlynn has been in charge of 82 games in his second spell (not including Fife Cup). So I took the first 82 games of his first spell as a comparison. This wasn’t as much work as it sounds btw! It was pulled together in half an hour so hopefully all the figures are correct. Interestingly, to me anyway, he has the exact same win ratio in his first 82 games of both spells with 42 wins. He has faired slightly better this time around with 6 more draws and 6 less defeats. Our away form was actually better than our home form in his first spell. We averaged 1.88 points per game away and 1.54 PPG at home. Things have obviously changed dramatically in his second spell with an average of 2.22 PPG at home and 1.34 PPG away from home. On the style of play, we have scored 159 goals in his second spell that is 30 more than his last spell averaging almost 2 goals a game but we have conceded 18 more with 112 in total this time around. Finally in his first spell we failed to score on average every 4 games and kept a clean sheet every 3 games. In his second spell we keep a clean sheet on average every 4 games but only fail to score every 10 games which is a significant improvement. So yeah the facts show what we can all see; that we are much more open attacking side this time around. Obviously early days at this level but I think John (and Paul Smith) deserve huge credit for adapting and moving with the times by totally changing their style, I can’t think of many managers who have done this in recent years, particularly in Scotland.

  17. Nobody is really arguing against the point that it's advantageous to be taller mate, I think folk are saying it's only advantageous if the players are of a similar level of ability. I'd sooner have prime Fabio Cannavaro in my defence at 5 ft 9 compared to Scott McKenna as an example.

  18. Whether you engineer situations or you are a true victim (not casting judgement either way here) I would always suggest controlling what you can control, in any situation. Whatever you're faced with, take the reasonable steps that you can to improve it for yourself. That won't always solve things clearly, but you make marginal gains and it makes your case for being a victim much stronger. Chance and luck, both good and bad, affect all of us and very rarely fairly. How we anticipate/react to those things is all we can do. Mixu is right, there are plenty of people who get off being a victim. I have a family member who doesn't feel 'part of the family' like everyone else. It makes us all sad that he feels this way, as no one has ever done anything purposefully to make him feel that way. We'd love to know what we can do to make that better. But then he'll regularly do things like not provide availability for family gatherings (when asked multiple times), then rage when it's organised at a time he can't do and use this as an example of why he's left out. After a while it is draining, and it's tempting to give up trying.

  25. The inevitable by product of an effective Test and Protect App, like the one in use in Scotland, that it is downloaded by a sizeable percentage of the population is an increase in people having to self isolate. That's the purpose of the whole thing, to try and slow down the rate of transmission by getting people who have been in contact with someone who tests positive to self isolate in case they subsequently contract the virus before they can pass it on. I can see the sense in phones being switched off if the phones themselves are close proximity to each other for a significant period but the actual people aren't. But to switch them off in other circumstances defeats the whole purpose in downloading the App in the first place. If any workplace, school or otherwise, is instructing staff to turn the App off so as to avoid staff having to self isolate and being unable to work is genuinely scandalous. If I were told to do so then it's an issue that I would immediately raise higher.

  26. He's a professional football player. If they don't have the ability or belief to hit the target in an empty stadium during a glorified friendly then they really shouldn't be getting paid to be a professional player. I'd be questioning the players not taking them way before the ones who did.

  28. Just picking up this absolutely hilarious statement by Dido Harding: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/10/nhs-test-and-trace-dido-harding-says-scheme-failed-to-predict-demand It's utterly inexplicable that the scheme failed to foresee a spike in demand at the start of autumn. You had plenty of students returning to school and university as well as an increasing number of people heading back to work all at the same time. A perfect recipe alone for an increase in the spread of viruses and demand for testing. At this time of year, especially with students returning to school, all sorts of bugs and viruses are spread with many of them having similar symptoms to those listed for COVID-19. The UK (and Scottish) Government firing ahead and opening more of the country up and turbo charging it with the EOTHO scheme encouraged folk to head to pubs, restaurants, cafes etc leading to spikes in cases before the schools, universities etc opened up. With more and more folk able to travel to other countries than they were previously able to, and with some of these countries seeing spikes in infections, returning travellers would of course want to get tested to find out if they had contracted the virus so there will be more demand for testing. There's been a lot of discussions about the effects on mental health from this pandemic. Anxiety levels are sky high for a lot of folk and can mimic and accentuate some of the symptoms of COVID-19 therefore, ahead of returning to work or school, this would likely drive demand for testing. Hancock and Johnson continually boasted about how good their test and trace system was and that on the spot testing would be available for anyone who wanted it leading people to believe that anyone who wanted to get tested could get tested. And to top it all off the utter moron herself Harding told people that anyone who "just wasn't feeling right" should go and get tested. But yeah, apart from any of that, no way to predict an upsurge in demand for testing

  29. The QotS commentator mentioned a couple of times that is was “blowin a hoolie” during our game and various other random comments but FFS it’s not Sky, it is literally a couple of supporters shooting the shit while covering a game and that is what actually makes it better. I don't think you are racist but your ill thought and out and terribly communicated takes are going to draw criticism. 35. The First Minister said during today's briefing that staff should keep the app on and their phone on them when in schools and claimed that people may have not had their phones in proximity when contact was made. To me, this sounds like the council (Aberdeen) didn't want more teachers to have to self isolate so told them to switch their phone off. The stuff about "robust mitigations" is bullshit - if that applies, should I turn off the app at the gym or in a coffee shop when they have the same mitigations? My wife had to self isolate for two weeks earlier because she had been a close contact of a positive pupil, the numbers appear be going up and it looks like councils and the government are trying to bend the rules to keep things going. Probably because they don't want widespread school closures.

  37. I genuinely fear what a fully fit Aidan Keena and Calumn Morrison will be able to do to teams in this division if you guys can get them playing well together. Morrison was absolutely tremendous last night and, as I touched on in commentary, really has everything. He's always a threat going forward, really good on the ball and quick. But he also will quite happily get stuck in and do the dirty side of the game. On that performance, and based on what he did for East Fife, I'm really surprised Hearts let him go.
