Do you really expect Tesco to go against government restrictions/advice because Thereisonlydarkness fae Ayrshire "doesnae want that". Honestly, my 3 year old niece has gone through this pandemic with more maturity than you have.

  7. I have to say, the thought of battering through the next five months of what will undoubtedly be a fucking shite winter knowing that the only two things I can do are go to work and sit in the fucking hoose* is fucking grim. *I'm obviously exaggerating a tad, but the principle remains.

  8. You're at it. An oil tanker out of control in the busiest shipping lane in the world, the crew locked in a room after issuing a mayday saying violent stowaways had taken over the ship and you're wondering why plod didn't row out and say "ello ello ello"?

  9. Anyone who seriously believes there will be compulsory mask wearing, sectors like hospitality still under restrictions and limited social mixing in your house after the roll out of a working effective vaccine is either deranged or has some twisted reason for not wanting to believe that. Any government imposing restrictions like that would simply be out on its arse as it would be the easiest election to win ever for any opposition party. Regardless of narratives now which, understandably in the midst of the pandemic will be cautious as best, this simply won't happen. As for actively peddling the narrative that this will never end it's fear mongering of the worst type.

  11. For all these “tEh SeCoNd wAvE iZ fAkE” posters. We currently have more than 10 patients in our ITU with Covid. Including someone younger than me (I’m 30). We do not ever have more than maybe 2/3 patients in ITU with the flu over the course of a typical winter. Stop being c***s.

  12. There are a great deal of unknowns to deal with here. Assuming a vaccine does become available towards the end of the year it is still likely to be into the end of Q1 2021 before there is a more general vaccination programme in place. So yeah, I don't blame doctors who use de-escalating language to describe the immediate effects of a vaccine. It'd make the winter a hell of a lot worse if compliance for restrictions went out the window because people assumed that the worst was over, and the cavalry was just over the next hill. Assume the virus becomes endemic, and with the kind of percentages they are quoting for effectiveness, we can probably start to treat it like the flu, but it is still likely to be a case of increased vigilance through Covid 'season' whatever the hell that ends up being. No one can give guarantees, so language is drawn as broadly as possible. This doesn't engender a sense of security or well being, and will likely increase general anxiety. That's not great but also not really avoidable I guess. I think anyone who sees this as a means of Government flexing societal control is way off to be honest. No one wants to be draining budgets and wasting political capital in a drawn out shitfest like this. Further, I'm not convinced that a government bent on authoritarian rule would manufacture a crisis that encourages people to use face coverings that obscure facial recognition technology, but that's just me.

  13. I don't see "permanent" mentioned anywhere there. You made it up and put it in quote marks to make it look official. How many days after a vaccine is approved would you promise people that they won't have to take basic precautions anymore?

  14. I'm not sure. It's an identical play to that first lockdown. She knows if she says "i'm shutting hospitality for 4 months" she'd get no buy in, so announcing a short, time-limited period gets enough of the "fgs it's only 16 days!!11!" brigade onside to ensure it can be implemented without much fuss, then once its in place it goes nowhere. If NS was your reporting manager at work, you wouldn't believe a word she said, so i've no idea why so many hang on her every word.

  16. I worked for Tesco when I was a student and their customers are some of the most entitled and selfish people I have ever met. They would throw a tantrum over any minor inconvenience. I can only imagine what retail staff have had to put up with over the last 6 months from customers. Ironically it will be the cretins who were posting "stay safe" all over social media and sticking rainbows in their windows in March and April who will be the most entitled and difficult to deal with.

  22. Hi mate, glad you're reaching out when you're confused again. Essentially, none of the measures we are taking completely stop the virus from spreading. This means we have to use a lot of wide ranging measures, some of which mitigate risk more than others. The may result in confusing or seemingly incongruous rules, and I can see they've confused you somewhat here. It's been shown to be completely ridiculous to try to keep a mask on while you're eating. So what they've done is, allowed maskless sitting down in restaurants and cafes (which is definitely risky) , but it's been calculated the economic benefit in this case of having these places open (in certain tiers) is worth the added risk to spread, but to mitigate this risk, they make sure when not eating (ie moving around, going to toilet, getting up and leaving) then you do wear a mask. The argument isn't that you can't catch it sitting down so it's OK not to wear a mask (although really funny and original line m8. I like it ) but that it is somewhat of a "worth it" risk to enable cafes and businesses etc to remain open, give people jobs, help people's mental health and other such benefits. Hope this helps. I'm always at the other end of a pm if anything else confuses you. PS I'm not sure if you know much about North Korea, but AFAIK wearing a mask for 15 minutes in Home Bargains is a far far cry from life in North Korea.

  23. Sad to hear Kevin McCarra passed away. He always had a soft spot for the club and I'm sure he mentioned on Football Weekly that he'd bought a season ticket around the time McNamara was in charge. Seen him around Firhill a few times around that time. A nice tribute to him by Jonathan Wilson. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/oct/25/kevin-mccarra-a-pioneer-who-changed-football-journalism-former-guardian-football-correspondent-dies

  31. A pretty surprising 10/10 for Monday. Total guess at the music (never heard of the song or any of the bands/ singers/ string quartets or whatever they are). The monarch i had to deliberate for a few minutes before jumping to a decision, the ruins were an educated guess, and as for the novel, well they can't be serious? And as for Q5, well you 'might' find any one of them there, at a range of probabilities stretching between 100% and near zero. OK, I'm off to be pedantic at work now, where they pay me for it .... Aww bollocks, missed it again

  40. Skimming this thread was a good laugh. A Celtic fan calling criticism of a referee absolutely nauseating was a personal highlight On the game, gutted not to win in the end but so pleased with what we have this season. I really wanted to see how we'd do yesterday because I've got a lot of belief in this team. Particularly I wanted to see the character of the team and what a response. Mcgeouch injury, the first equaliser, Edmondson and Watkins getting injured, the 2 goals in two minutes to go behind were all points in the match that previous Aberdeen teams might melt and it just didn't happen (ok the 2 goals in 2 minutes was a bit of a melt in itself...). It will be interesting to see what we do on Sunday. The first half was played on Mcinnes' terms yesterday, albeit we didn't do enough with the ball when we had it. The second half suited Celtic more but we showed that we can really hurt them on the counter when the game opens up. I heard Lennon say we didn't trouble them all day and they should have won comfortably. A bizarre comment but saying that, I really hope he believes it.

  41. Aware that are we in a pandemic, with rookie managers, but still a bit perplexed about how the squad building has gone prior to the start of this season. Aware it must have been difficult to get a goalkeeper in knowing that they’d be second fiddle to Mutch. 6 defenders, 3 of which are left backs. Albeit one can fill in at centre half. Only one right back (jury very much still out on him) with perhaps Gary Miller only there as cover? Remember the last manager we had that signed 3 left backs... 7 midfielders (excluding Laverty). No real replacement on the left for Connolly if injured, tried Alston and Todd there to no avail, and tried shuffling Morrison across who doesn’t appear as affective out there. Contract extensions for Leitch and Telfer, either of them a good idea? Assuming the former must be on a very low wage, and has scored in the league, but still no idea what his position is, and what is he good at? 5 strikers including Miller, who arguably is your second most effective striker behind Keena. I know many would consider Sammon as a man down but is there any need for 5 strikers when we are light elsewhere? I initially thought the signings were built to replace issues last year (Morrison for lack of pace, Alston for some central midfield dynamism) but as people have alluded to, what’s the game plan?

  42. Interesting. 90% of viewers thought it was a penalty Where did you get this figure from? no thistle players disputing the Airdrie claims How is a defending team supposed to dispute the non-awarding of a penalty? They played on. And scored.

  44. I’m interested as to what exactly your expectations are exactly? Here is the thing though, we shouldn’t have to worry about underestimating the likes of Ferencvaros or indeed Rangers such are the advantages we have over these teams, the outcome of those matches should be entirely within our control. What I do worry is about is the regression. We are going backwards so quickly you would think the PLC was being run by Marty McFly and Doc Brown. I also worry about fans who paper over this because in “Lenny they trust” and they remember one night were he conjured a miracle against Barcelona. As for your point about our already great squad? You neglect to mention those he has let go. Hayes, Jozo, Sviatchenko, Boyata, Lustig and Scott Sinclair were all probably better than the replacements brought in.....every single one of them. He was handed a squad that was able to stroll this league at a canter and he has subsequently destroyed their confidence, belief and motivation. However there has been no announcement which suggest PL’s ego isn’t quite able to accept he has made a rip roaring c**t of this one. He had the opportunity to take us further ahead of Rangers and look to hire someone who would take us back into the Champions League and further develop our talent. He hasn’t and for me that is indefensible
