  2. From Richard Gordon’s ‘Tales From The Dugout’: “Referee Kenny Clark, when he was fourth official as the Dons were being routed by Motherwell, “Ebbe turns to me and says, ‘I want to make a substitution’. I remind him I need the numbers of the players going on and coming off so that I can input them into my electronic board. He returns with the sheet, but it’s only got the number of the player he wants to put on. I tell him I need to know who he wants subbed off, and he replies, ‘You pick. They’re all pish’.”

  4. It's a stupid story pretty much all round. Even by their own standards the Tories are stupid for making child malnutrition a line in the sand given that they're throwing money at consultancies and all sorts of utter shite like no tomorrow. There's also no guarantee that they won't cave in as well. At the same time though people are asking the wrong question by asking why children shouldn't get free school meals for a single week over a holiday. The issue is that the entire welfare system in this country has been degraded by neoliberal scrounger-bashing policies to the point where families cannot feed their children. This salami sliced, think of the poor weans special pleading simply lets the government get away with keeping the overall safety net as insufficient and cruel as it is. The same goes for the week's fighting over furlough support. Businesses should have been kept in deep freeze while their employees accessed a proper social safety net until they go back to work. Instead we have a piecemeal nonsense as different forms of employment get covered and others do not and with different rules and eligibilities all over the country. It's an inefficient, bureaucratic farce when simply slapping a one size fits all benefit set at a much higher level than the enforced poverty of Universal Credit would be a better solution. Something like a Universal Basic Income that would have been of huge benefit during this crisis but has slipped off the radar in favour of these ridiculously hyped public rows over marginalia.

  9. Fucking hell. "I guess teams in the Championship will have to deal with Hearts like teams in the Premiership have to deal with the old firm". The fucking commentator actually just said that.

  14. 10 for Friday. After seeing all today’s scores I was convinced that I would get 5, and I only knew 7. Three 10’s in the same week. I only hope that my football team has the same amount of luck on Sunday.

  18. It's not really about being mad or whatever if that's what you're suggesting. It's about trying to work out if there's more substance to it than "they forcefully argued for what they believe in and personally criticised me" which made up about 90% of the criticisms towards ali_91 as well.

  23. I'm not sure this is really fair - he was very much considered a first-team player at the start of last season, he had come off the bench a couple of times and then made his first start a couple of weeks before he got his injury, and then that was him done for the season. He's then been on the bench for us for most of this season, but Kabamba has been outstanding so he's not really been able to get a chance. A couple of years ago, he was seen as the next player who was going to make the breakthrough for us. I think Clarke really rated him and the loan spell at Stranraer was supposed to be a chance for him to get some first team action under his belt before returning to fight for a place with us. The injury therefore came at absolutely the worst time, but it has always been our intention to send him to the Championship this year, and I think Ayr is probably about the best place for him given the success you've had with loan players in recent years (and the fact it's very local for him rather than traipsing across the country). I have a feeling he'll do quite well for you.

  25. I can't wait for Jonathan Watson's hilarious take on how Denis Law thinks Coronavirus is a Brazil midfielder and how Frank McAvennie reckons Covid is a 19 year old burd. Also a dig at some diddy team not realising there are no fans in the stadium.

  27. Disagree. VT is probably the one who has leaned most towards closing schools, but as you’ve said he has only gone as far as pushing blended learning, never complete closure like many on here constantly seem to repeat. The most vocal posters around schools like Szamo and Marshmallo have all just suggested the charade around schools being “safe” needs binned and honesty from the government is what they’re looking for, like myself & Gaz. For some reason whenever anyone posts about the schools there is a certain group of posters straight in to repeat statements like Chris and you have above, stating that the group of posters want schools closed. It’s simply not the case, and it’s frustrating.

  28. Thomas Konrad is available on a free. He's on the small side granted, but he's miles better than anything we have at CH. I know many on here aren't fans of returning players, but I'd snap him up in a heartbeat.

  30. Here are the scores. Only 1 no show(which has made things very interesting). Will reveal the scores then give updates on the next round etc. @WhiteRoseKillie 9 v @scottmcleanscontacts 10 @Arch Stanton 7 v @MSU 9 @Helpma 7 v @Adamski 5 @Silky Si McFly7 v @Leeds Saint 6 @Bully Wee Villa 4 v @Rugster 7 @The DA 1 v @peasy23 6 @The Hologram 4 v @Tynierose 7 @The_Kincardine7 v @Spring Onion 6 @Snobot5 v @NotThePars 8 @German Jag5 v @Cardinal Richelieu 6 @The Captain2 v @deej NO SHOW @Eednud 7 v @Salvo Montalbano 5 @NJ2 7v @MixuFruit 6 @101 8 v @pleslie99 7 @Arabdownunder 3 v @Ross. 6 @ArmadaleKillie 4 v @LincolnHearts 7 So, a few comments on the first round. HOLY SHIT THE CAPTAIN IS THROUGH WITH A SCORE OF 2! Well deserved in my opinion.(although if I find you have been locking fellow quizzers in your basement again I will not be happy). Unlucky WRK, getting a 9 and still heading out(you were up against a tough opponent to be fair). Some cracking scores from all involved, and very little moaning about modern questions, so well done all round. There are a few ties I've missed above, those went to tiebreakers and those involved know already who is through(don't worry, I'll tag you at some point tomorrow when I do the draw, then on the Sunday when I post the quiz). Some may wonder why I don't post the draw and the second round tomorrow. It is because I haven't finished it yet to build the tension.

  31. Where they played prior to coming to us I could not care two f**ks , as long as they do the business for us , too many fans acting like bigot brothers from Glasgow , I hate Kilmarnock as a football team but have no qualms with some of their players wanting to step up to a better club
