  10. Might not be an unpopular opinion on P&B but it seemingly is with the general public, but greetings cards have to be the biggest, most pointless wast of time, money and resources going. They cost a lot (for what you actually get), they're usually twee shite that no one actually means and they're also bad for the environment. Get them to f**k.

  12. I know f**k all about anyone's plans, intentions or motivations, and what I say should be taken as the thoughts of a happy idiot on a Sunday morning rather than those of someone in the know, but I'd imagine that Willie Haughey and the committee are looking at both the short and long term. Short term the plan is clearly to get promoted this season and, by the looks of it, next season as well so they're buying players to allow them to do that. At the same time I'd think they'll be developing the youth set up at the club in the hope of bringing players through, but also giving local kids a chance to play the game and get decent coaching (as they do just now). Theoretically Queen's could field a team of 16 and 17 year olds next season, but they'd get pumped every week and drop out the league, which wouldn't be great for grassroots football either at the club or in the area. I don't see that spending money just now to bring in players as a means to an end and also developing the youth teams are mutually exclusive. Of course it could all go tits up. McKinnon might be as bad a manager as some folk on this thread are making out. He had a promising start in his first couple of months in the job, but the season ahead will be a different challenge. If he doesn't get promoted with the money that's being spent then he should, and I'd imagine will, be sacked. I don't know a lot about most of the players that have been brought in. Mostly fans of clubs they've played for before have gone down the "should do a job in League 2" route, which is hardly a ringing endorsement but again, we'll see. In the past some classed as oafs at other clubs have done well for us, others coming with a pedigree haven't worked out. The old Baron doesn't strike me as a Brooks Mileson type and, as Spider Rico said, he's put a lot of money into youth and grassroots football particularly in the southside for years without making a fuss about it or looking to be seen as a GREAT GUY. But maybe he's just playing a real life game of Football Manger. Whatever happens, it'll be fucking interesting and hopefully a bit of a laugh. Given where we could have ended up with the pyramid coming in and the Hampden situation, I'm hopeful that Queen's will be a solid and stable club with its own home ground, a wee bit further up the leagues and continuing to do decent things for youth football in the area.

  15. In general though can you imagine the outrage here with those sort of measures yet we are held up as "most severe in Europe". There is very little you can't do here you can do in England. They have just had their first crowd test events and our are next week. As always it's a week or 3 behind. Now being compared to other outliers in Europe for that very reason. NHS has to be the priority as I said earlier, it needs to be ramped back up to full normal operational capacity. There is quite a lot you can’t do in Scotland that you’ve been able to do in England for a while. England reopened theatres, live music and arts venues from 15th Aug, with social distancing and mitigations. Sturgeon went the other way, she banned background music in pubs and restaurants (it had previously just been one of a long list of advisory mitigations), suggesting that Scot Gov’s indicative date for reopening live music venues (Sept 14th) is unlikely to happen without a rapid about turn, as, logically, Scot Gov can’t permit live music if recorded music is banned. I’ve spoken to colleagues in England about the ban on recorded music, and the general reaction is incredulity. There is no credible scientific basis for the ban - low level background music is no more likely to make people lean in more or talk louder than general background chatter - in fact some of the noisiest pubs I’ve been in pre-lockdown were Weatherspoons outlets. This draconian ban, which has rendered pubs and restaurants soulless and sucked any remaining atmosphere out of them (less than half full as they already are because of social distancing), costing the industry dear in terms of lost revenue, was clearly a knee-jerk reaction to local spike in Aberdeen. Sturgeon said, when she introduced the ban just over couple of weeks ago, that she would consult with the hospitality industry to see if an agreed safe decibel limit could be introduced, but that now seems like an empty platitude, as no such consultation has yet taken place. In fact there is now a Change.org petition urging the lifting of the ban, being promoted by a number of the people Sturgeon should have been consulting with, showing how little confidence there is within the industry about the ban being overturned any time soon. Scot Gov have painted themselves into a corner over this, as furlough is already winding down and the hospitality, live music and nightclub sectors are deciding now whether to retain staff or offload them. The ban on background music gives no-one any confidence that live music venues or nightclubs will open again soon, even with SD and extensive mitigations. At this stage, the signals from Scot Gov are so overwhelmingly negative that jobs are not just on the line, but are already being shed and will continue to be shed in large numbers over the next couple of months. At first I thought it was just brinksmanship. Sturgeon’s modus operandi has always been to move a few weeks slower than Westminster, missing no opportunity to castigate the Tories for their recklessness, while reinforcing Scot Gov’s ‘safety first’ credentials, but her continual calls for the extension of furlough, long past the point where anyone genuinely thinks its going to happen (Sunak dismissed this suggestion months ago), now looks like buck-pushing and political point scoring. Scottish hospitality, events, arts, theatres and live music sectors are dealing with much more onerous restrictions than their English counterparts, and an ever-widening lag in terms of reopening for those sectors still closed. There is now very little optimism that Scotland will catch up before the end of furlough, so jobs will be lost and business failures in these sectors will be significantly greater than in England. WM will get the blame, and much will be made of the fact that Scot Gov would have been able to save all these jobs and business if only it had greater fiscal powers, or indeed independence, but the jobs will be lost and the businesses will be gone all the same. There is clearly some political capital to be made here in terms of the independence debate, but at what cost? Sturgeon is playing a dangerous game. I’m not sure if Sturgeon has a positive vision for the future of the Scottish economy, and particularly for the embattled hospitality, tourism, retail, entertainment and arts sectors, but if she does, it’s well past time to start outlining it.

  19. Accies das: - Thinking that some no-mark who's just signed for Falkirk or Queen's Park "could do a job for us". - Scapegoat any youngster. - Until a couple of years ago, they'd get annoyed about signing foreign players as opposed to guys from England (or Scotland, obviously)... until we started signing the Alex Pennys and Sam Kellys of this world. See also: "This is a good signing because I've heard of the team they signed from." - Rage about Beuzelin because he has a clipboard. - Think every goalkeeper and striker we've ever had is shite (that might be fair enough). - "Canning/Rice doesn't pick the team." There are also the fans who get annoyed at any criticism because we were homeless/in the Third Division/on the verge of going bust, which is fair enough but doesn't mean that folk can't be raging about having no shots on target at home to St Mirren.

  20. 9 teams in league 1 and 3 teams in league 2 had higher average attendances than QP last year . Also glasgow has plenty of teams for people to chose to watch apart from the obvious OF. Pollok to name another. Going by the crowds Hamilton st Johnstone get I don’t think it’s a massive deal as they have shown they can sustain a team in the premier league on pretty low crowds. Anyway have watched the uprising of Queen’s Park from a far it is good to see a lower league team with a bit of hope and optimism around . Having been at a couple of your games when you shared at airdrie I wish you All the best [emoji106]

My favourite Clyde-related scandals on here: - Middle-aged Clyde fan stalks young St Johnstone poster by sitting directly behind her at a match and sniffing her hair. - Two grown men (both Clyde supporters) arranging a fight following a disagreement on here. Fight was to take place outside Shawfield on a Saturday night but there was difficulty in negotiating the time as one was travelling back from a match at Peterhead and the other was out for a meal with his wife.

  22. This is a great idea, apart from the fact that: 1) Winning our group here would give us an excellent chance of a World Cup play-off spot 2) Seeding for WC qualifying will incorporate the Nations League results, and finish bottom of our group would likely see us drop into a lower pot. 3) Getting promoted to League A would also almost guarantee us a play-off for the next Euros. 4) Seeding for the next Euro qualifiers will be based entirely on our Nations League ranking, and being in League C will mean we're Pot 4 at best for those.

  29. Out for a round today for the final card to gain my handicap! Great front 9 of 39 ( 3 over ) back 9, A bit of a slog started par par then went a bit wayward ended up coming in in 46 so finished 85! Cards handed in are 83 85 88. My touch around the green has improved massively, been getting lessons on my short game and it’s helped out so much. Slowed my backswing down as I was keeping the face far too open and was turning my wrists to correct on the downswing and I was railing right so that has helped me out a lot! Great seeing the progress out on the course but still missing too many putts for birdie/par but all in all I’m delighted with how I’ve taken to golf!

  33. Longtime I've listened and listened to some shite over the years in here, from junior hardliners and from pyramid hardliners as well, as I'm sure you have. We've all said things on here regarding each of our views, some with even stronger views that other don't like, me too and I get that, the offensive people and ignorant people on here, we know the main ones, we just ignore but for my tuppence worth I will say.... The junior cup is not embedded inside the pyramid, it isn't, only in certain peoples minds. The teams that have moved from the junior ranks to the pyramid ranks, most have retained their junior status because they don't know any better or their committee isn't forward, future thinking people. Time is time and eventually these people will move out and younger ones will take over and the views of the club will change, the membership of junior clubs will slowly become less and less each year I don't believe the junior cup will be played this season for the simple reason as I see it virtually impossible to fit in, especially for the teams in the West tier 6 league but then again, I'm not a fixture guy. Agree the mess about the East and North etc.. trying to find a way that they can easily and smoothly move into the pyramid is hard but sure someday I'm sure it will be done. Yes in the East, there are a few teams who intend to move to the pyramid for season 2021/22 (FACT - and no I wont elaborate) and will those couple of teams moving have a knock on effect with the other East teams, mibbiees aye, mibbies naw. Not sure how the tayside and Aberdeen sides will work out so its anyone's guess. If they all move over there could be the ''South Challenge Cup' and maybe a northern counterpart 'North Challenge Cup' and even an 'East Challenge cup' and then there could be a 'Scottish Non League Cup' What would this mean for the Scottish Junior cup well the grade will truly be finished and they could either use the trophy for the main non league cup or just put it in the SFA History room. Right now we are where we are, Covid stricken and football, all football, is suffering so we have to get back to what we all love, football and here's hoping the season starts. I'm looking forward to the league starting, (fingers crossed) and just want to enjoy watching football. I'm sure as the season starts there will be the usual banter on here, windups, and egits and even the trolls. Im happy to read all that on here, why, because it means the season has started back

  34. It's remarkable how all this 'but... but... long Covid!!!!1111!!!!!!' hysteria only ever comes out to defend official measures and yet didn't get mentioned at all when the government decided to restart the schools at full capacity that are obviously ramping up infection.

  35. If no covid goes into a school then it's not going to lead to an outbreak. Schools are quite possibly responsible for worsening the outbreaks in those areas that already have a higher number of cases.

We have a team full of grit and effort for the most part, but, just like last season, we need some creativity on the ball and we need some better movement going forward. I don't know what players are achievable for us just now, but I think we could carry someone like Mallan in the current team and he would make a huge difference for us going forward.

  46. Thanks for that. Features a few of his definitive shots - the hooked forehand down the line on the run is a specialty, and he's got to be one of the best lobbers ever. Who was the lank mutant he just kept lobbing at Wimbledon one year? He was like "I don't care if you're 9 feet tall, I'm going to draw you to the net just for the fun of going over you." And the lob to win the Davis Cup while the home fans were celebrating what looked like a certain point for Goffin was pure Murray. If he never achieves anything again he's left us with buckets of great memories.
